We had Brian come to my son's 6th birthday party with his 5 snakes and 2 lizards. This was an amazing experience for everyone at the party. I don't know who enjoyed it more, the kids or the adults! Brian had a lot of good information about snakes and answered all our questions. Then out came the animals. First Brian allowed my son to hold one snake, then 2, then 3, then 4 snakes all drapped about him. He loved it! Then the lizards joined in the fun, with lots of lizard kisses for kids and adults. After about 15 minutes of showing us the snakes and talking about them, and how to handle them, Brian allowed everyone at the party to take turns holding the snakes. Brian put all the snakes on the table (except the one that was already draped around my brother's neck) and the kids got to touch them, pick them up, hold them, as much as they wanted. The adults joined in and soon, almost everyoone had a snake around their neck at one point in the party. The large tegu lizard walked around the yard, with an audience of children following behind. This was a very hands-on experience. Brian did a wonderful job of talking about the snakes, but the best part was how generous he was in allowing our guests to direclty interact with the snakes and lizards. We had 17 children at the party, and ALL of them got to hold a snake! It did not feel rushed, and was a lot of fun. I highly recommend Brain and For Goodness Snakes for your next party. My son wanted to do a reptile themed birthday party for his 9th birthday this year. I wanted to surprise him with a reptile show. When I discovered For Goodness Snakes, I was so excited! I emailed Brian, the company's owner, and asked about booking a show. When I told him the date of the party he said that he had another obligation. Rather than just telling me that he couldn't do it, he offered to have his wife, Carol, do the show. I was so pleased that she was willing to come all the way to Monterey! Carol and her son, John, arrived at our home right on time. The kids, especially my son, were SO excited! Carol did an AMAZING job working with the kids. She took her time to describe the snakes and lizards and answered all of the questions that the kids asked. She let the birthday boy be the first one to hold the reptiles. He felt so special! The adults at the party were just as impressed with the show as the kids were! Carol and John both seemed to really enjoy the kids and parents. Everyone loved the reptiles. When Carol found out that my family and all of the guests were a military community, she made all of us feel SO appreciated and important. I've been married to my military husband for over 14 years and I have never been more touched by someone's true appreciation and gratitude towards our families! Carol is truly an amazing person! I have been to a few of For Goodness Snakes programs where children were able to hold the lizards and snakes. As a parent I believe it is crutial we protect our children and I do not believe my child and any other child at these programs were in harms way. All of Mr. Gundy's animals were tame and he was very watchful as each child held a snake or lizard. Possibly if this parent who picked up their child from camp was at Mr. Gundy's camp program he would understand that Mr. Gundy would never put any child at risk and that he too might hold one of his snakes. I hope this does not put a negative thought in anyone's mind about his programs. If it does, just take a look at all the other Yelps and you will see the rave reviews Mr. Gundy has gotten and are well deserved. FYI - check the internet to see how many people are harmed/killed by dogs, horses and other animals as apposed to snakes. Snakes are way down the list, if at all. If I were to discribe Mr. Gundy's program I would have to say he is an educator, is wonderful with children, is patient, and puts people at ease helping them to understand reptiles, and dispells misconceptions about snakes and reptiles. I just attended my nieces 8th birthday party and Brian and his snakes where the featured event. He is great and really provides a wonderful experience all around. His approach helps to educated his audience about his snakes and reptiles in a way that simply disarms you. He truly helps do away with irrational fears people develop about these largely misunderstood animals. He also lets the kids and adults truly interact with the animals (fully supervised) in a way that allows his audience to take home a really special experience. He is a great speaker and there were lots of laughs as well. It was just the right mix of speaking and action, and just the right length of time. He had that full room of 6-8 year old's captivated. A truly unique and memorable birthday party! Also, I actually think John D. comments below almost compliment exactly the kind of thinking Brian works to educate people about. As a parent, I am 100% confident that if John D. was with his child at the camp and experienced Brian's talk, he would have been able to resolve his own irrational fear and grow as an individual right along with his child. first off i personally hate yelp for their exploitation of business using dirty tactics to bully them into paying for negative ads to be removed, but I felt the need to write a review for Brian and For Goodness Snakes! I recently attended a childs birthday party that Brian had been hired to entertain the children. Being a reptile enthusiast and having a decent amount of knowledge of the species, I can say without a doubt Brian knows his stuff! Not only was he knowledgeable, he catered his education style and information to the age level he was speaking to. The kids were awestruck when he took out his snakes and even moreso when he brought out his tegu monitor lizard! He kept a watchful eye on all of the kids as they handled the reptiles, and had taught them how to properly and safely handle the reptiles. I spoke with Brian after the program and was amazed at his deep understanding and knowledge of the animals, as well as his passion for educating the younger generation. My, then almost 8 year old, daughter came home from her daycare and declared that she was in love with Ezra (a blue tongued lizard) and we had to get For Goodness Snakes for her next birthday party. My wife was like "really, I thought you wanted a frilly girl party". My daughter was adamant, so we booked Brian (we booked two months ahead). This was the birthday party of the year. The kids loved the snakes and lizards. We have fabulous pictures (you take them yourselves so there is no hidden cost). The cost was just a little more than getting yet another fake princess. And I can't emphasize enough how simple and fun Brian made everything for us. Brian arrives timely, cleans up perfectly and puts on a great show. He is also very careful and patient in teaching the kids about snakes and how to handle the snakes and answering any questions the kids have. We had a birthday party this past weekend for my son. My entire family loves animals so we thought having a snake party would be fun. Brian showed up with his managerie of reptiles and the children were instantly glued to his every word. He began with Q&A and then asked for volunteers. Each volunteer met a different guest(s). Brian then allowed EVERYONE to participate and hold the various animals. While the kids definitely had a great time, one adult mentioned at her next birthday party, she would have to let her friends bring their kids to justify having Brian be the entertainment. Everyone had fun. Brian's ability to relate to the children (ages 5-8) was top notch and my daughter (one of the 5 year olds) has now requested that we do the same thing for her party. We had the BEST experience at the reptile and snake show! The presenter was absolutely incredible--his knowledge and years of experience really showed. He stayed so calm and confident the entire time, even when people were nervous around the snakes. You could tell he truly cares about the animals and about helping people feel comfortable. What impressed me the most was how he gently encouraged those who were a little scared (myself included!) to interact at their own pace. By the end, people who walked in terrified of snakes were actually holding them with a smile on their face. That takes real talent and patience! Brian brought these snakes to a camp that I worked at this summer. The kids all LOVED him! definitely would recommend for a birthday or other event. He even tries to educate the kids about reptiles and the snakes in the area that they might see. I agree with the people who posted that they were uncomfortable with the risk factor of snakes being able to strangle people, and I did notice that with our big group moving through petting all the animals it got a little hard to maintain sight of everything going on, so I would recommend having parents be around big groups of kids, but the kids dont have to do anything they don't want to, some of our kids were scared and wanted nothing to do with it, but majority were crying because they did not get enough of the snakes. We first were invited to a FGSnakes party at a friend's house, which I was MORE than hesitant to attend. However, with 4 boys, there was no way I was getting out of going to this birthday party! Brian Gundy was amazing! He is completely competent and knowledgeable on all reptiles, and is never forceful to any guest to "make" them touch/hold a snake. After this party, we ended up booking him for our own birthday party, and let me just say this. It is FAR better to have the party where the snakes come AND LEAVE, than have to give one as a present to stay in my house! No thanks! :) My boys all had a ball, and even the adults were fine (from a distance). Holding a 35-pound boa constrictor around his neck had been a highlight of my son's visit to our local natural history museum last summer, so we had Brian come to his 8th birthday party for a more intimate visit with the creatures. It was a huge hit with all the kids and their parents, even those who'd hung back a little at the beginning. Far from being gimmicky or solely targeted at people who are already "into" reptiles, Brian's presentations are absorbing and fast-paced without feeling rushed--all the kids had plenty of hands-on time with the snakes, skink and tegu, and the photos we took will carry lifetime memories. Highly recommend For Goodness Snakes. Brian Gundy came to my son's preschool earlier this year and taught the kids about snakes and lizards in an age-appropriate way. He showed the kids a number of snakes and lizards and the children were allowed to touch and interact with them at the end. He was patient and kind with the kids. We had Brian and his reptiles over for a birthday party for my 11 year old daughter and her friends. Brian gave a short and informative talk and then presented the snakes and one large lizard to the kids. Personally I have always been terrified of snakes, but the excitement and joy of the kids while handling the reptiles was infectious and I ended up sort-of handling a snake. Brian gave a great performance and education of snakes that I have ever seen. I got a kick on how amazed all the kids were and their excitement about holding these creatures. He is informative and interesting and his friends--Buzz, Bob, Bingo, Sunshine, and Little John are fascinating, curious, and gentle.
