TL DR: Do not take your pet here! Our dog was cut with clippers, we were overcharged, and it took TWO DAYS (15 HOURS TOTAL) for him to get a haircut. We were told it would be 3-4 hours and around $100-120 dollars to get our goldendoodle groomed. We took him in at 2:50 pm on 6/4/20. After 6 hours had passed, we called and were told it was taking longer than expected. We opted to have it finished that night which was supposed to be done by 10:30 pm. When we showed up at 11 pm after hearing nothing he had only half a haircut (pictures below). We said we were not comfortable bringing him back but the woman working there pressured us. She even went so far as to insinuate that we were bad owners for not grooming our dog enough. She said if we brought him back the next day at 9am she could finish him quickly. Stupidly, we brought him back today 6/5/20 at 9am. After being told he'd be done at 12:50 we called. She said she needed another hour. Finally at 3:30 pm after a total of FIFTEEN HOURS AT THE GROOMERS my girlfriend went to pick him up even though they had not called us. She was informed that the owner normally charged $500-600 for a cut like this but she could give a super special deal at $250. My girlfriend told her we could only pay $200 and the employee said okay. His final cut looked okay at first glance but his armpits were cut. They are very red and sensitive. There is clearly a piece of fur missing further towards his arm where he was cut and he has since been licking it nonstop. The photos are attached. My dog is 6 years old, extremely well behaved, and he has NEVER had an issue at the groomers before. All in all, we feel that our dog was put through a ridiculous amount of time and hurt while we were essentially scammed. TLDR: After 6 hours, my cat left panting, stressed out and only with a haircut to his back. I will not be returning and would urge anyone looking to get a haircut for their cat to look elsewhere. Gucci, my long hair Maine Coon cat, needed a haircut so I made an appointment at For Paws on State St. at 8:30 am. When I arrived, there were two small dogs barking uncontrollably. The attendant picked one up and assured me not to worry because "they were her dogs". When she put down the dog in her arms, the two dogs went at each other which broke out in a full-on dog fight. Feeling very uncomfortable, I felt hesitant to leave Gucci at For Paws but figured this wasn't the norm since they have decent reviews online. The attendant told me that he would be done by noon, which seemed to be more than enough time since any other grooming appt has taken 2 hours or less. Additionally, she told me the total would be $100 after a $15 off coupon. Noon comes and goes and I don't hear anything so I give For Paws a call. The attendant sounds flustered and tells me she needs to give a few dogs baths before she finishes Gucci's haircut, which upsets me further but I tell her ok and she gives me a timeline of 2 pm. 2 pm comes and goes and I hear nothing so I decided it's been far too long and I'm going to pick up Gucci. I get there and she tells me that she still needs to finish his legs. In reality, only his back has been cut and the rest of his body is still incomplete. The haircut on his back is extremely choppy and looks as if a child gave my cat a haircut (photo attached). The attendant assured me that the owner would be giving me a call, which never happened. Once I did, I tried to provide a follow-up call to confirm the location of the appointment since there are two For Paws Salons in the area. After failing to get in contact with someone again, I decided to call the montecito location to confirm the appointment. Luckily the montecito location was quick to pick up. After confirming the appointment, the employee informed me that they couldn't confirm that there will be an employee at the Santa Barbara location upon my pre scheduled appointment and recommended me to go to the Montecito location. I'm giving this a 2 star rating because I cant speak upon their service on the animal since I wasnt able to receive service, but i can speak on the lack of commitment and communications from the Santa Barbara location. If their own employee cant confirm that there will be someone at the Santa Barbara location upon my pre-scheduled appointment, then that shows the lack of professionalism and commitment to their customers. I was a bit weary taking my Pug into a groomer because he does not do well when trying to brush his teeth or trimming his nails, but For Paws did such a great job with him!! They gave him a beautiful haircut and trimmed his nails. He smelled soooo good when I got him back!! He was also as soft as a Sherpa blanket. It took over 7 HOURS to cut his hair only to hear some bullsh!t excuse that their plumbing broke. I highly doubt it because I went in twice within an hour and the lady was mostly on her phone. My dogs cut wasn't finished the same day, I had to drop him off for ANOTHER 4 HOURS the next day. NO TIP, the price was definitely too much for the TERRIBLE job they did. I'm not from around the area and thought it would be a great idea if while she got her claws trimmed she might also cool down a bit. I came in without an appointment and they were able to help me. They took my dog immediately and had her ready in about 15-20 minutes, which was super fast. The guy at the register was nice and the claw trimming seemed to go well. My dog is a little scared when it comes to getting her claws filed or trimmed, but everything seemed to go well. No broken or uneven claws and no bleeding or anything odd. So far this place seems to do a great job and I'm glad I found them while driving around the area. This is the 2nd time I've left this review. The 1st one never posted or was somehow deleted. My 11 lb MinPin was to have a bath, blow dry nails trimmed and teeth brushed. Appointment was at 9:40 A.M. I was told it could take 1 1/2 hours. I never received a call so I returned at 11:10 and was told that her nails still needed to be trimmed. Her teeth looked the same so not sure that was done. This place is great, although more expensive than your local chain pet store. I went here after PetCo wouldn't grind my dog's nails because he "didn't want to sit on the table." It's not that he didn't want to, it's that he is newly adopted from being a stray and doesn't yet know his commands so telling him to jump up was not going to work, which I explained to the woman but alas... So we came here as a last Hail Mary attempt around 11am on Friday and they took him right away. They were only able to do some light grinding because he didn't like it too much and no one wanted him to have a bad first experience, but they got the nails down from their dagger-like state and I am so grateful. This is a cute, little shop. Two ladies were working on this day that were very friendly. My ten pound papillon Maltese mix came in for a wash and groom. He was dropped off at 11am and we were told we would be called when he was ready. At 4:30pm, i hadn't heard from them so i called and they said to get him at 5:15pm. They later called saying 5:30pm. I arrived at 5:45pm and waited until 6pm for him to be finished. The lady said they had a lot of people coming in and out so they were not able to focus on their dogs. While my dog got a great hair cut topped off with a cute bow tie, I feel seven hours was a very long time and was just thankful we have nothing going on this evening. She also charged us an extra $10 for mats by his tail area. She said she would've quoted it before but didn't know about it. I probably won't be going back unless i know my whole evening is free and I'd have them check for mats prior to leaving. My dog had a "mommy makeover," here. Well, not quite, but close. His appointment was at noon but they weren't finished until around 5:00 ish, but I was totally OK with that - they are a very busy shop and the ladies have a perfectionist attitude, so they won't release your pup until they are satisfied...including staying after hours to make sure the dogs are groomed to their liking. They molded my pup's hair by hand. He usually gets the #1 buzz cut but this is the first grooming place that he came out looking puffed and smelling perfumed without all his hair shaved off. The lady said my dog had a nice head and we came up with a hair strategy to let his head grow out to look more Bichon like, giving him a unique look. He enjoyed playing with the other resident dogs; they didn't cage him at all, and he had an afternoon of fun romping time. The shop didn't have a wet dog smell to it, either. This groomer is very inconsistent, I got a great groom for my cat a while ago, although it was well over $100... This time I brought in my french bulldog. I usually bathe him myself but he needed his nails trimmed and teeth brushed, something For Paws offers. When I went to pick him up, he was running around in what looked to be a combination of several dogs' very long hair about an inch deep all over the floor. It was really gross. He had it in between his toes, stuck to his mouth, everywhere. His nails were very split on the sides and the poor guy dramatically recoiled when I touched his paws, something he never does. While I was driving him home, I noticed a very large flea running across his short all-white fur. I suspect he picked it up running around in another dog's dirty hair, ewww. Also, they forgot to brush his teeth, something we had discussed beforehand. My impression is that the employees are just not paying attention. They act really frazzled and overwhelmed despite there never being more than one other person when I've been in. I went back the next day to pick up some products I purchased. The girl working was on the phone, didn't acknowledge me at all, then proceeded to go in the back then emerged (still on the phone) and handed me someone else's dog! LOL, what? I took my two Springer Spaniels in for grooming. I've had them groomed about every three months for the last four years. I had this same breed dog before, so I have some experience with groomers. I was not impressed. They had the dogs in their salon 7 1/2 hours, and one had wet ears when I picked them up. The cut was not a the traditional springer cut, as they shaved off the feathering on their legs. I normally pay about $140.00 for both dogs, and was charged $200.00. I won't go back. read more

I also stressed that I stopped taking her to other places because they wanted their to be people to hold her down and that just sounds traumatic for anyone, let alone an animal that is not understanding what is happening to them. The lady at for paws told me it could take up to 3 hours because she likes to take her time, I didn't think much of it assuming it was just something she said to people generally because cats can be difficult--and I thought it was nice that she was stressing she took her time. I dropped off my cat and the shop was a bit chaotic with lots of retail items and clutter, still, against my better judgement I left my cat since she had some matting going on in her hind legs. I started getting concerned after about an hour and received a call after 2 hours saying my cat was not done and now she had found fleas on her and recommended a bath. I said sure under the guise that it would be quick and I could pick up my poor kitty who had now been there for over 2 hours, but I was told to come by at 8:30pm (3 hours in total!). I went and my poor cat was wet, only her back and legs were done and the groomers dog was barking incessantly. The groomer told me she had to put a kitty muzzle on her and I almost broke out into tears. She also explained that the cat was not done because she needed someone else to hold her and if I wanted to to I could stand in and hold her! Are you kidding me?! As my cat was taken from the kennel, the groomers dog was jumping up and down as she walked with my cat in her arms barking. Of course my cat was stressed in that type of situation. The fur, that was "full of fleas," was on the counter still when I went to pick her up and her cage was put right on top of it. I was told I could come back and have her finished but I will not be bringing my cat back, the groomer also kept stressing that the cat was not traumatized and was fine. The reason I am giving this 3 stars instead of 4 was because getting an appointment was a bit of a fiasco. I called their main line, pressed the number for the location I wanted and once I was transferred there, they asked if I wanted to book for Montecito of Santa Barbara. There was a lot of background noise and employees having loud conversations while I was on the phone. The good part was that I was able to book an appointment for the last minute, so they were very accommodating. I dropped him off around 8 and by 10 I had a call that he was done. When I went to pick up my little Buddy, he looked cute in his new summer cut. He was able to run around and interact with the other dogs there while he waited to be picked up. I try to give businesses a chance and actually went a few times to this place. My first couple of visits, while expensive, were at least mostly timely and done well (except I kept asking for my cat to NOT have a lion cut and kept picking her up with a lion cut.) but the last three times I've taken her it's taken over 5 hours each time and her cut is done worse than before. I dropped her off once at 10 am because I was told that was the drop off time for cats and didn't pick her up until almost 5 pm. They told me to bring her later in the afternoon next time because that's when they do cats.... OK.... So the next time I did schedule her later as I was told. Dropped her off at 3 pm and got a call at 5:45 saying she was 3/4 done. OK so after not hearing anything more I drive over at 6:30 and only her back has been shaved! I had an appointment at 7 pm so had my mom pick her up for me. My mom calls at 7:10 to ask what's going on and the lady said "I'll be done in 10 minutes." So my mom drives over in 10 minutes and her stomach and legs and butt are not done. The lady then asks my mom to help hold her down so she can finish faster. My mom was there for about an hour total, 30 minutes of which was spent helping the business do its job! My mom asked why it took almost 6 hours to shave this 6 pound cat and was told "Well she should've been dropped off earlier. That's when we do cats." This was the exact same woman who told me last time to bring her later. I don't know what happened with the quality of service over the years but I'm not going back. My poor cat looks like a little train wreck and was put through 6 hours next to 5 barking dogs and loud music for a below average haircut. Now I know these people are just doing their best and cats can be difficult, but third time's not the charm. read more

I wanted to try a new groomer for proximity to my home. $ 70 dollars later I had to bring my dog back for some obvious mistakes.When a dog is blown out it is difficult to see mistakes and they know this. I have myself been a hairdresser for 30 years and I especially know this. What slays me is that if they had looked even a little bit after the cut they would realize how bad It truly is. I have been a customer of 4 Paws for more than 10 years with my last dog....RIP she was a 9lb poodle mix & very well behaved.I know they are expensive but was willing to occasionally pay more for a great cut. I paid as high as $85 for her and did recommend them to friends. Jason was the best. Last week I brought my 8 lb Shitzu 10 mo puppy in for a bath & cut with little matting on her legs. I was told she behaved well. When I picked her up I was shocked to pay $120 not including the 15% tip I regret giving them. 4 days later I'm sitting here trimming the spots they missed. I've been taking my dog here for about 6 years. The occasional Knick here and there never caught my attention until my dog came home COMPLETELY COVERED IN CUTS. I literally cannot comprehend how this is possible. It's as if they were using the clippers with no guard and completely destroyed his underbelly. His inner thighs, belly and even his little wee wee have bright red, dark red and very deep red/brown cuts telling me that the pressure used was extremely excessive. I will be contacting the SBPD and filing a report with them because this CLEARLY is some sort of animal neglect. I have no words for this business other than I hope you lose EVERY SINGLE CUSTOMER over this review. How dare you charge me $155 for my dog's summer shave hair cut, treat him like this AND not even tell my father when he picked up the dog. I had to discover it as soon as he came home. I have a disabled cat that my vet has previously had to sedate to " medically trim" . Marilee has a hard time grooming herself, so even as a short haired cat her fur gets extremely matted up in a very short period of time. When I called to book an appt at For Paws, I spoke with Talia and explained that Marilee is disabled, fragile, and fairly cranky when it comes to getting her knots out. Talia assured me that she had groomed all types of cats and was confident that she could groom Marilee. I arrived with some trepidation and Talia was there to greet me. Once again, I explained that Marilee is easily traumatized and cranky and I wished her luck. I dropped her off at 8:45 am and was told I'd probably be picking her up sometime " after noon". When I received a call at 10 am informing me that Marilee was ready for pick up, I thought for sure that Talia had deemed Marilee " ungroomable"; however, when I arrived Marilee was shorn as we'd discussed and Talia reported Marilee was sweet, loving, and gave her NO problems at all. It is not cheap, but Talia is an absolute pro and your cat will be in the best of hands ( and note that Marilee did NOT require sedation, as the vet had previously done!) They do doggies also! After looking around and reading reviews, For Paws seemed to be a good spot for a doggy hair cut. Well, that was wrong. First off, It is incredibly over priced. The receipt does not give a break down to what I was charged for, so I called to inquire about why I was charged $130 for my 18 pound pup. The sales person stated it was based on time. I had an appointment and they proceeded to take several other walk ins at the time of arrival. She was washed and dried in about 45 minutes, now tell me why a place would need an additional 2.5 hours for a trim? There is no reason for it to take almost 4 hours and for BARELY a hair cut at all. To top it all off, she still has several knots. Personally, I will not be going back and would never recommend for paws to anyone. read more

This place is wonderful. Our medium sized dog is an absolute terror when it comes to clipping his claws at home. We called around and asked a couple places if they'd do it for us, warning them of his fears. We either got told no, or people wouldn't return our phone calls. For Paws, on the other hand, not only was courteous and relaxed about taking on a nervous dog, but they do a fantastic job, on very short notice (we often call in the morning on a day we'd like his claws clipped, and they usually can get him in within a half hour of when we called, and clip him as soon as we get there), and without incident. Our dog still isn't totally happy about the process, but they are patient and wonderful with him, and he is certainly calmer than with us trying. Best of all, they continue to take him. Worth every penny of the $15-20 fee. read more
