Great locally brewed beer, great food and great service consistently. Forager has a wide variety of options for carnivores, omnivores, vegetarians and vegans. It's one of my favorite restaurants. They often have live music featuring local bands and the ambience is stellar. Being vegan, I just wish they had a dessert that I could eat but perhaps it's for the best. I recommend the rainbow plate for an app (most of the dips are vegan). Looking at Yelp pictures this place looked amazing, our waitress was really nice.. the 3 stars goes towards the food.. based on the pictures of the food on Yelp it looked really appetizing, looks can be deceiving!! We ordered the forager noodles and the stroganoff.. both lacked flavor. Texture on the noodles was missing immense flavor and was very sweet , stroganoff was very chewy as well it was cut into small pieces which was odd as well, also extra creamy...these entrees are hard to skill unless you cater only to that cuisine.. long story story it's hard for a chef or a establishment to master specialty items. Beer wise they can be in the argument with some of the best beers I have ever had. Everything I had from stouts today sours were simply amazing. Its building is shared with a coffee shop and you have to walk through said coffee shop to get to the actually brewery part. Pretty cool fact that the bartender told me was that a few things inside actually came from other spots around town. The bar top was actually from the Country Club and was refinished and brought here. They also have a sweet looking patio that was covered in snow but is probably awesome in the summer! Everything i shoved down my gullet was delicious. 99% sure everything they cook here is bought or grown locally. I channeled my inner Erin G and had The Forager Burger with fries. It came with bacon on it so I figured I couldn't go wrong. The bartender Amy gave me the rundown on all their brews and suggested a couple of her favorites. I've been in Rochester for about 6 months now, but it wasn't until I found Forager Brewery did I find my restaurant home. ZZest was close, but I think this is better - both in terms of food quality and ambiance. The inner hipster in me really digs the vibe - the chandeliers, penny tables, chalk boards, and excessive amount of wood art just really speaks to me. Form over function for sure, because the booths are bizarrely uncomfortable and high from the ground. Service was excellent and exceedingly accommodating. We came in as a group of 8 that just barely fit on a booth. Our party unexpected grew to 11 when our "tentatives" showed up - who does that? Anyways, we were able to quickly swap to a larger table without much hassle. Food was, as I mentioned, excellent. I got the Pan Roasted Cornish Game Hen that came out impeccably succulent and much larger than I expected. The parmesan risotto was a creamy sweet perfection. The arugula was ... well, arugula. Let's talk about food I had fuego burger - the burger is a little spicy but I enjoyed the whole burger My favorite is the salad ( caprese salad): it serves with tomato and sliced freshly mozzarella with balsamic sauce. It's soooo Amazing! The beer, the pizza, the cheeseboard, the service, the decor. Our waiter was so nice too. I want to try everything on their menu. I haven't seen a brewery which is sooo pretty. The tables with pennies are so innovative. The place have a gorgeous vintage look. We have been trying to get a table for dinner for a couple of weeks, and everytime there is an hour wait. Where to start....?!!! Beer--best chocolate stout you'll ever try, even if you're not a stout lover (ended up leaning with a crowler of it). Hubby had their IPA, loved it. Sider was excellent as well--not too sweet at all--made from apples in Pepin Heights. Food--WOW. We got the nachos--great portion, full of flavors and textures. Chips are absolutely my fave--made from a farm in Welcome, MN. Pork is smoked by them outside on patio at Forager, chimichurri sauce is super good. We also tried the fuego burger--OMG. Great flavor--perfect balance of sweet and heat, best bun I've ever had, and burger was cooked exactly how we like (pink). Seasonal salad was a great size side portion (with burger) and perfectly dressed (not overly as many places). Can't wait to come back and try the pizzas! Service was also excellent. We sat at the bar and the bartender was pleasant and very helpful, since we were newbies. Prices were great considering you get amazing food and good portions. Went here on Saturday for lunch. I always tend to approach brewpubs with a lower expectation when it comes to food and/or beer. Forager was a pleasant surprise. The three beers I had (IPA, Pale Ale, and Stout) were all very good. I loved the mouthfeel and soft carbonation of the beers and each were quite tasty and clean without any off flavors. I wish they had flights, they do not, so it's hard try all the beers they have on tap. The waitress said they do do half pours, but that's not much of a compromise IMO. I was craving a good spicy burger and saw the fuego burger on the menu and immediately ordered that. I'm a pessimist when restaurants say they only cook burgers "medium" since they almost always come out well done and dry, Forager however, delivered on their promise and I had one of the BEST spiciest juicests cheeseburgers I've ever ate. Cooked to a perfectly pink medium, It was packed with a buttload of heat and flavor and the fries and side sauces were equally delicious. I give this place a solid 4.5 stars and will defiantly make the trek from south mnpls to Rochester again in the near future just for this brewery. -0.5 stars for not being able to fill the growler I brought (what's up with that?), and for having a confusing display menu that is hard to read. Tasty! The husband and I were passing through during brunch hour on our way back from camping. A search of "brewery" in Yelp brought up Forager and LTS. We headed to Forager first since food was guaranteed. Made it in time for brunch. It was a bit roasty outside but I had a dragon with me so we grabbed a semi shaded spot on the patio. Server came by with beer and food menu, explained how we could do flights if we wished (we did). Lots of different beers on tap. Everything from sours, light summer beers, hoppy stuff, dark stuff, barrel aged stuff. We each got a flight of 4 (or maybe 5) of most of the beers so we could swap and try each one. The beer was quite good! The sour was actually pretty sour (yum). We decided to go for pizzas for our brunch/lunch. I went with the Hidden Stream, which was smoked pork, picked onion, goat cheese, roasted tomato rosemary sauce. Ugh, and I mean that in a good way. It really hit the spot. My husband, well, he went for the Hot Stuff. Our server was like "it's pretty dang hot, we could take the jalapenos out so it's not so hot?" I'm thinking to myself, hmm, obviously they've done that a few times. Husband goes something to the effect of "Nah, I like it hot!! No MN spicy for me!" So he eats his pizza and I see this look come over his face. It's the look he gets when he's eating something really damn hot. His whole head is instantly covered in beads of sweat. Almost immediately he starts picking the jalapenos out from under the cheese, hah! I tentatively accept a bite of the de-peppered pizza, and holy shit it burns even without them. He manages to eat the whole thing and shows no shame when he hands our server his plate back filled with jalapenos. Enjoyed our experience overall, not to mention eavesdropping on the group behind us discussing 50 Shades of Gray book vs movie (sorry but how could we not). So much goodness! Stopped in after our first stop fell thru and I'm so glad we did! They do vegan! And they do it right. My significant other is a vegan and got their vegan pizza and he said it's one of the best pizzas he's ever had. I had the vegan potato leek soup and no one would be able to tell it was vegan. It was just the right creamyness. Chunks of potatoes and carrots with leeks. We had the pile o fries for an app. Came with a garlic aioli and black garlic aioli. The black garlic was very bland but the garlic... oh wow! So much garlic flavor! That would be awesome and everything! I had the double Diego burger and changed to the brioche bun. Very good but VERY spicy! I like spicy, so it was good but it was make your upper lip sweat spicy. Halfway thru I took off half the bun and it helped. The burger was very tasty! Very fresh and juicy. Our son recommended this place and on our next trip to Rochester we stopped in for dinner. We were seated at a non-traditional table by the fireplace which was cozy on a cold evening. They have beer available in multiple sizes and our favorite was: Johnny C's - Belgian Dubble/ 12oz pour. Deep brown with off-white head. Spiced caramel malt sweetness layered with dried dark fruits, and Belgian bread aromas. Sweet malty flavors dominate with mellow Belgian spices. This Trappist style ale is rich and smooth with a warming alcohol buzz. Excellent. The burgers are fantastic. Juicy and large with a perfect bun. The Fuego Burger was terrific. Our waitress recommended the habanero jelly on the side and I am glad I took her advice. It is very spicy. I added about 1/3 of the jelly to the burger and it was perfect. Fantastic brick oven fired pizzas. We had the margarita and hidden stream pizzas. Both had a fantastic chewy/puffy crust with a great balance of toppings. Loved the addition of balsamic on the margarita pizza. The tang/acidity of pickled onions was a great tool for the rich pork and goat cheese on the hidden stream pizza. This restaurant offers a great, eclectic selection of beers with the option of getting flights (4oz) or something larger. My friend is a huge fan of sours, and they definitely hit the mark. I prefer darker beers such as stouts, and I was incredibly happy with "the dude" which was chocolately, coffee-ey, and of course so smooth. Appetizer: nachos, a huge behemoth of an appetizer. Well-balanced with jalapenos, cheese, shredded beef, and other goodness. The nachos were not too heavy, which is a huge plus for what was to come. Pizza - I can't remember which pizza my friend ordered, but it had a lot of meat: cured meats, deliciously flavored bacon, something else from heaven, and lots of herbs. Together this is certainly a memorable pizza. My only complaint is that with the fresh tomatos (which was necessary to keep the pizza balanced) and juices from the meats being baked to a flavorful perfection the center of the pizza became a bit soggy. What an amazing addition to Rochester's restaurant/bar scene! Ambience: AMAZING!!!!! They have different tables and small "rooms" inside of the brewery. Like a library, a garden, a long table that you can share with people you don't know and potentially make new friends!!!! Food: delicious!!!!! We shared the nachos and three pizzas. The nachos are not from this world. They are fresh, lemony and are made with feta cheese and chimichurri. Delicious! The cheese pizza is outstanding and the portabella mushroom one is also delicious! I love the fact that they have a small menu, because everything is fresh. Staff: super friendly and knowledgeable about the food they serve. I don't drink beer, but my friends and husband really liked all the beers they had. For a couple of hours I felt like I was somewhere other than Rochester! read more

The coffee selection is basic but tasty both the drip and the chai latte were especially satisfying, and the chance to enjoy them in a library full of games made the experience even better. What a gem! I went on a Sunday afternoon and this place was super lively. I'm not a big beer drinker, but their beer is out of this world. Beer comes in three different sizes, which makes it perfect for sampling. And you must sample the beers, especially when they are offering sour beers with passion fruit purée, beers made to taste like Thai coffee, and beers brewed with sushi rice. Next time I go, I'm going to pick up one of their growlers, which are just giant beer cans. To balance out the alcohol, I got the nachos, and they too were unbelievable. Blue and yellow corn tortillas smothered in cheddar and goat cheese, topped with chimichurri and pork. So dang good. I will most defiantly be back. read more

I really have no idea how this place stays in business. I only go there when I am invited, and only then after subtly trying to change the venue to SXSE or LTS. The service at Forager is excellent, and the food is okay. The beer is very poor and grossly overpriced. I've been homebrewing for 20 years so I know what beer is supposed to taste like, and I know that there are different styles of beer that have different taste profiles. But beer isn't supposed to taste like the Men's room at the airport or a high school locker room smells, and two of the beers I had there this evening tasted just like that. The worst beer I drank was $15.50 for a 16 ounce pour, and it was terrible. The best of the three I drank tasted like four parts V8 Fusion to one part Budweiser. Anyone with any taste for beer would be very dissatisfied with the selection here. I'd give the place 0 stars but the wait staff is excellent and the food is so-so (good compared to the beer). If you want good beer go to LTS or SXSE. read more

I like this place because I love beer and kind of trendy place to hang out. I must say their service is not that great. Most of the times I have to go find our waitress to ask for another drink. I don't know if they don't train their waitresses... They will take my empty beer glass and don't even offer another drink. I find it very strange for a brewery. Anyway, I've had most of the stuff on the menu. I LOVE their Mac and cheese with Kimchi. Their pizza is great. Burger is good. Wanted to try something new in the area that we couldn't find back home that also wasn't a chain restaurant. We went for lunch and got there a little after they opened. It was myself, my husband, our infant daughter, and husbands friend - we walked right in and sat ourself like the sign stated. I'm not sure if they had car seat holders or kid seats because nothing was offered but our daughter just sat next to us. It wasn't busy so she wasn't in the way or anything...I do know there is a changing table in the women's restroom so it's somewhat family friendly. The large patio outside would be nice for a date night with the hubby or our with friends. The food was excellent! I had the nachos, my husband got the Fuego burger fries and his friend a plain burger. The nachos were huge and very tasty, and my husbands burger was average size but super spicy! I will admit upfront that I am picky and that I have lots of experience as a chef. Im getting tired of mediocre food and forager is no exception. The Mac and cheese was average but the tartness of the Kim chee is not a good accompaniment. The corned beef hash doesn't taste like corned beef and serving it shredded is not good. The "local" potatoes were blah and the Hollandaise sauce was inedible. Good thing I ordered it on the side. It's also not freshly made hollandaise or anything like it. I'm guessing it's knorr Swiss powdered mix. I challenge you to prove me wrong. The fries that came with my wife's burger were cold and limp. Guys if you're going to make fries in house learn how to do them right or just buy some. I'll be happy to come over and teach you how to make hollandaise and how to make decent fries.
