Stopped in for lunch on a recommendation. Seems like a casual hip little place.
Seat yourself in the many available options-communal tables, bar, cozy little lounge areas, etc.
Staff was friendly and helpful, not particularly attentive once food arrived, which is good or bad, depending on how much you like to be left alone to eat. My husband's water was refilled multiple times, while I'm fairly certain that my glass sat empty for the entire second half of our visit.
Menu was small but I don't mind that. The only negative as far as that goes is that they were not offering all the items listed on the menu. For example, on this visit, the kids menu lists Nachos, mac and cheese, and pizza. Ordered the nachos but was then informed that all they had available was pizza. I'm not sure if this was because they're not quite ready to offer the full menu or if it was just something happening that day. In either case it was kind of annoying because kids aren't the best at understanding or caring when they can't order what they wanted. I would have enjoyed a warning on the limited menu.
We ended up with two of the pizzas, straight off the menu: Breakfast Pizza (bacon and eggs!) and August Kutzky's (smoked salmon and cream cheese). Both were absolutely delicious and something that I would definitely recommend and will be eating again; hopefully soon.
Some reviewers have complained about portion sizes and/or price. These pizzas are 10" and the menu suggests they serve 1-2 people. Between the three of us, the two were enough to fill us up. They were $10 each, which isn't a bad price. Now consider that the ingredients are fresh and locally sourced from small family producers and $10 is an amazing value. Take their pork, sourced from Hidden Stream Farms, a family farm that is organic in all but name. As someone who shops as organically and locally as possible, I know how expensive and hard to find quality ingredients are. Maybe before people complain about how they're being "ripped off" by paying $10 for a really awesome and better for you and the planet pizza that is more than adequately portioned, they should think about how much it would cost to produce a similar item at home. They should also consider what a normal portion size is and not expect a ridiculously over-portioned meal that a family should not be consuming in one meal, let alone a single person. Maybe America, the land of the super sized everything, should put more effort into truly enjoying a thoughtfully prepared meal instead of attempting to inhale everything in sight just because it's cheap.
My family was impressed with the food and Forager in general and we will most definitely be back to try more menu items as they become available. We are thrilled at the prospect of an almost organic eatery here in Rochester and hope they enjoy success. read more
