I've been here many times in the past for various reasons including the births of my children. Never had any issues or problems when visiting this hospital. I visited the emergency room because of a rash/illness. After some research, my symptoms aligned with Lyme Disease. I was fatigued and in severe pain. The staff were very helpful and supportive throughout my visit. It started with checking my vitals and getting bloodwork done. Then I was sent back to a bed when available. There I met with the Physicians Assistant Kiley. She was great! Very thorough and knowledgeable. Answered all questions I had and ordered a chest X-ray to be sure that pneumonia had not set in. Even though the emergency room may take more time I know now that an Urgent Care Center would not have been so thorough with my care. They are more like a drive thru office compared to a full service facility! Nobody is ever happy with a trip to the hospital but Forbes is bearable and never had any complaints. read more

I'm not sure why Forbes has so many negative reviews. Obviously a hospital isn't going to be a place that you are looking forward to, but the various times I've been there (or had loved ones in care there) experiences have been positive. I've been to Forbes for blood work, the surgery center, xrays, the cancer center and the emergency department. The closest to a negative experience was the ED and honestly, the staff there were great, it was just a crazy long wait. (Forbes is a trauma center, so the amount of people in the ER waiting room is not a great indication of how long you might wait). For example, I was there with my daughter. When the intake person realized just how long we would likely be waiting, they contacted Children's Hospital for us, got us in the line there and made sure we had things like emesis bags for the drive over. Every department I've been in the staff has been courteous, empathetic and attentive. The hospital itself is well maintained and clean. Obviously no one really wants to go to a hospital, but I feel fortunate that we have such a great option so close to home. read more

The plastic surgeon took 15 minutes to tell my father that he could not help him. He said my degree of knowledge is not equipped to help heal your bedsores, but I can do another wound debridement . He said my father would be hoisted in the air for six weeks. I said he will be back to where he started and he will never heal, the doctor said right but this needs to be done. My dads foot mummified and bled while at Forbes and all they cared about incapacitating him to keep him chained to his bed. You killed my dad before he died . read more

Wait times for the E/R are dangerous. How can a person with a blood clot and strong pain to their ribs and chest be forced to sit in a waiting room from 5:30 to- well they are still sitting there and it's 11:30. They came as a referral from their doctors appointment who obviously seen some urgency and sent them there. Plus they throw a iv in you so you can't leave! Then to add more anxiety to my 79 year old mom ,they made all the non-patients leave the waiting room, which left my mom by herself, scared and worried about this clot. As I'm writing this, it's getting latter and she is still just sitting there. Their website says wait time is 3 hours well - my mom has been there for 7 hours. If I could give this place a zero stars I would. It is an absolute JOKE. I was there with my 76 yr old mother for Flu A. They kept her overnight in the ER. Kept telling others NO BEDS but there were in the back where we were. During the time we were there, we had to ASK for food to feed her. Tried to blame it on "diet" meanwhile I found her COLD DRIED BREAKFAST on the nurses station. Oh here let me microwave that for you. What??? The nurse Adam who said I know every bit of 20 times how much he HATED being a nurse. How he "didnt work here". Absolutely a disgrace to other nurses. If you hate what you do or have lost interest in helping others please leave the field ADAM. They would leave trash on top of my mother after opening packing for testing. Left a portable toilet In Her room that he was above cleaning out but had no problem leaving the urine in it. (5) until I had to say something. When FINALLY being able to leave he took the cords that were attached to her 76 yr old skin and wrapped 6 wires around his hand/wrist and yanked them as hard as he could and she yelped in pain and I was shocked. He (Adam) said ha! thats how I do it. What??? Don't get me started on the FILTH in this hospital. I am attaching pictures of the toilet and wall of the ER PATIENT bathroom that's unreal. With few exceptions, Forbes' Psychiatry and Behavioral Health division is mostly staffed by people who do not care about the patient. In fact I've witnessed the majority of the staff display outward annoyance the patient is there. This disgruntled attitude was displayed towards most patients I saw interacting with the staff. In addition, the staff choose to unjustifiably punish my fiancé by not allowing her visitors for over a week, even when the staff was made aware that visitors were what was greatly helping my fiancé improve from her post-anesthesia brain fog. My fiancé is petite, gentle and soft spoken, and certainly not a verbal or physical threat to the staff or anyone else. The reason for the punishment was never explained, making it all the more bizarre. More egregious is the nursing station broke HIPA protocol three times when people who were not authorized to know my fiancé's matters called and asked questions. To the staff of Forbes Psych unit, if you hate your job and your patients so much, why don't you do something else for a living, instead of making patients worse off than when they first came to Forbes Psych? read more

Little history, I have been a nurse and an administrator in healthcare for over 20 yrs. I am highly disappointed in the lack of care and compassion I received at FORBES hospital in Monroeville Pittsburgh area of Pennsylvania, who I once held a very high respect for from a past surgery I had in 2022 that gave me my mobility to walk free of pain and stability without risk of falls or injuries from a genetic hip disorder which cause me to suffer with many years of pain. I commend FORBES for the surgery performed to replace my faulty joint back in the summer of 2022. They were one of the only who would take a chance on my hip which was more involved than planned due to my femur being abnormally small and narrow in size.As a result of experiencing pain, hearing some clicking and grinding with mobility, pain in the groin region, flank area , a rash which covers my lower extremities, nausea, blurry vision with sensitivity to light and ringing in my ears. I made an appointment with FORBES ortho who instructed me to visit the emergency room should my symptoms persist and get worse. On April 11, 2025 I decided to go to the emergency room and I chose FORBES since I had a great past experience with them. Only to be disheartened by a bunch of medical staff who has No people skills care or compassion. I was admitted but no one would keep me informed as to findings on my tests or why they were doing certain tests and procedures. I was told all my testing was coming back normal and no worries but they wanted to keep me for observation and put a heart monitor on me for the night.I did have elevated blood work prior to my visit. They mentioned Lupus but stated they could not treat me for anything resulting from that.I would have to see immunology and it was doubtful they would consult with me before my stay at FORBES was complete.The ran numerous imaging test .They stated they were treating the tinnitus and blurred vision Which they could not understand because my tests were not showing anything That seemed to point them in a direction asked to Why it was happening. After being placed in a room right before shift change.I was hooked up to A saline bolus to flush the contrast from my system.I was told to keep my arm straight so it could quickly run.While being flushed, a tray A food was placed in front of me,I was told to fill out paperwork completely And a nurse was talking to me through a television and asking me if she could call me on a white telephone and I was trying to keep my arm straight But had to contend with an occluded IV line which nobody would tend to at shift change.I was feeling very overwhelmed at that point and began to wonder what was going on. I was offered medication's to manage my pain which I refused Because I did not want to chance masking one symptom due to how I was feeling.I did take 5 mg of melatonin to help me rest along with my regular ordered medication. At midnight, the cleaning Man came into the room and began cleaning the other half and stayed in the room until about 2 AM when they brought in another patient to utilize the room. While the cleaning man was keeping me up, I decided to look at my MyChart. After continually going over my medication's with the TV nurse ( so personable)and making updates with the TV nurse, I noticed my medication list Was not updated as I had told her the only medication I take daily as prescribed by my PCP is one pill that is given two times a day they had Several listed that I do not take. When in the ER, I was honest about my pain management and admitting to eating a marijuana gummy to manage when it was intolerable.In the diagnoses portion of my, my chart It stated I was being treated for marijuana use on my permanent record. My hip pain was listed last In my diagnoses. My blood work was coming back elevated on my CBC with Diff And they failed to tell me About a suspected aneurysm on my carotid artery. After getting no sleep and seeing what was happening, I signed out of the hospital at 2:30 AM. My honesty was my punishment. I was made to feel like less of a person...Happy to give more details on my experience. I do not recommend this hospital ANYMORE read more

They discriminate if you aren't showing severe signs they won't take you back for vitals or care!! Place is terrible. Got to the ED at 09:00 and sent upstairs by 4:30 and asked for food as soon as I got to the room. 5:30 again requested food, 6:30 again no food and 7:30 asked for discharge papers. Got an AMA which I didn't sign but got dressed and left. Walked to Haymaker and two Monroeville police cars stopped me but I told them to leave me alone. Why did the hospital call the police. Not enough room to post other incidents against this overrated institute. Having chest problems again and don't want to return. read more

The two stars is a gift to this hospital due to the friendly nursing staff and some of the support personnel. Beyond that, I would have given zero. My husband was transported to the trauma center after a car accident with possible head and neck trauma. After having his vitals taken, we were left in the overcrowded waiting room for five hours before he was taken in the back to the "fast track" area. I had to remain in the waiting room for an additional 4 hours without updates or a way to communicate. After asking about him, I was informed I could receive updates to my phone. At this point, we had been waiting for over 8 hours with no update. The only health update I got was from another patient who had returned to the waiting room to tell me that he went for a test. No staff member communicated that to me until after the results came back which prompted his admittance. There were people in gurneys in the halls of the ER who couldn't be seen because of situations like ours. I received an automated update that he would be admitted after spending 11 hours there. He would need a further test before he could be discharged. Once cleared for discharge at noon the following day, we were thinking our departure would be imminent. We received conflicting orders ranging from still being admitted to being discharged. It was not until we were there for 23 hours that we finally were able to leave. And by the way, eat before you check in because you cannot have anything to eat or drink until you are seen by a physician which may take 7 to 8 hours. Hopefully you aren't diabetic. read more

I was at the ER at Forbes last night due to gallbladder issues. While I did not want to be there, my experience at Forbes' ER was great. I did not have to wait long at all in the waiting room. I was quickly escorted to a room and was seen by a physician and nurse quickly after that. Both the physician and nurse were very friendly and took the time to explain everything in terms that i was easily able to understand. The ER and rooms were also very clean and spacious. If you find yourself ever needing to go to the ER, Forbes is a great option. read more

I accompanied my husband to Forbes Regional Hospital in Monroeville for outpatient collarbone surgery. Staff all around were very cordial and professional. He was greeted as soon as we arrived and told the sequence of events. He waited only a few moments before being summoned to be readied for surgery. Once he was prepped and before being taken to the operating room, I was taken to his waiting room. The nurse, then surgeon and anesthesiologist came to talk to both of us after only a few moments, told us the timelines from surgery to the recovery room, and discussed the procedures and aftercare with us. Even more importantly, they encouraged us to ask questions and took the time to answer them. I got breakfast in the cafeteria, again pleasantly greeted, and sat by a window while dining. I then waited in the waiting room, watching the electronic board for the status to change from prep, to procedure, to recovery room. The surgeon came out to let me know it went well, according to plan, and about how long it would be before I could go back to see him. During the prescribed window, I was called to come back to the recovery room where my husband was already sitting up and dressed. Just a little longer and I was asked to bring my car to the front entrance and someone wheeled him in a wheelchair to the car, helping him get in. Both my husband and I feel he got great care, they were organized and efficient, and everyone was super nice, knowledgeable, and professional. I never felt as though anyone was too rushed to answer a question and they all seemed to like being there. I say this because some of my experiences at other medical facilities in Pittsburgh have been the opposite of all of this. My husband is home healing, his experience was pleasant, and what could be better than that? read more

My mom was admitted for about a month and a half. When she was finally discharged on 5/10 to a skilled nursing facility her belongings went missing in room 5016. I know she had belongings in her room because 30 mins before her discharged I made sure things were pretty much in the bags securely in her closet. I called the nurses station a couple times to make sure they weren't misplaced. The nurses there are rude and arrogant, with major attitudes. I don't even think they made an effort to go double check the closet in the room. Be aware that if your loved one is being discharged just take the time to take there belongings with you. read more

They left my 85 yo mother sit in her own shit for hours In the ER. When they finally changed her, it happed again because they waited too long. They left her on a gurney in the hallways for three hours sick and miserable. Here's an idea. Hire enough people since you're making record profit. Of course, you have to PAY them, but you don't enjoy that, do you? I assume that's at least part of the problem. ER is messy and disorganized and the Drs were patronizing and mansplaining. Gift shop was closed. Entrances are closed with wrong signs on them telling you where to go. I will NEVER take my mother there again. read more

Arrived 3/16 at 3am by ambulance for passing out 2X's and head injury from fall. Waited in ER until 3pm to get a room because hospital full. Just blood draws and Xray done. Had to wait to next day for Echocardiogram and still waiting to get a CT scann almost 36hrs later its 145pm 3/17, I had to wait for room since they are full. I see now why they are full. They hold you up for your test when I could have had my answers that I'm ok and free up this bed. Poor management at AGH. If they are doing this to me I can't think how our seniors are taken care of. Was at Forbes at 11 am today. In the emergency room there were 2 young people who came in without masks on. No one said one word to them as they checked in. After 15 minutes I went to the desk to complain. I am high risk and we are in a hospital you would think they would follow the rules. Also there were people coming in for a test for the corona and they are in the same waiting room as everyone else. They were getting tested because they thought they might have it. I previously had hospital stays at this facility. They "were" good for the first few visits. Emergency room is excellent. But I must say that my most recent hospitalization and stay were terrible during the daytime shift. Either the nurses are understaffed or just the lack of caring. I used the call button several times during my stay w/o prompt attention. Even w/o using the call button, there was 3-4 hours without a nurse even checking on my condition. One night a group of three (nurses aids) came into the room to take care of the other person in my room and they acted like teenagers laughing and gritty. With absolutely NO RESPECT that it was after 12 midnight. Nighttime nurses were way better, as I found out that that shift was filled with temp employees. They were more caring and very respectful. They also were more knowledgeable. Kudos to the temps. Times have changed and I will no longer recommend this hospital as I've done before. Surgeons were good as well as the emergency staff. But to actually be admitted there is a big NO anymore. read more

Terrible experience today at Forbes hospital in monroeville, registration girl needs to be retrained, or better yet fired! She was very rude and unprofessional. I brought my 73 year old father in with shortness of breath, and told her that we needed an oxygen tank, that he's on oxygen, she said have a seat, someone will be with you, as she stared me down and talk to me as if I didn't understand English, with her tongue ring hanging out of her mouth. I sat down, expecting someone to come out, time went by, then I went up to the desk to let her know that he's having a hard time breathing, she again got loud and said, I told you, someone will be with you... I was recently here for a few days and the experience is almost indescribable. I saw numerous health code violations (a bag of feces covered towels in my room when I arrived, not removed for almost an entire day), medical waste on the floor outside my room for hours. The staff was not helpful at best and downright rude and physically and verbally abusive at other times. I was called mean names and actually physically pushed by an orderly. My medication was given to me improperly and at the wrong times, even after repeatedly telling them about it. Their doctors are young and inexperienced, and were downright insulting. These are just a few of the things that happened to me during my stay there this past weekend. Do not seek treatment at this facility - they are not properly trained or qualified to provide quality care to patients. ETA: I almost forgot - while I was in the ER, they also went through my wallet without my consent, looking through my credit cards and other things. I do not know why, I just know that everything was in the wrong place when I got it back. Major invasion of my privacy. read more

My father is here for dehydration and pain control. He was ordered a heating pad, which supposedly arrived to the floor but mysteriously disappeared. We were told he will have to wait for another one to become available. Pitiful that a trauma center does not have enough medical equipment to care for its patients. Staff wore mask and face shields. Covid protocols in place and followed by staff. I felt safe and protected I had hip surgery and Dr Moore was my surgeon. He is excellent good communication. He even called me the day before surgery to make sure I had no questions and I was ready to go. When I got to hospital admissions were polite and efficient. I did not have to wait in prepping I was gotten ready for surgery and right into surgery with very little wait. Anesthesiologists explained everything very well preppier meds worked extremely well as I don't even remember going into OR. Next thing I remember is getting back to my room. The nursing and rehab staff on 5 north are phenomenal. If I needed anything they were right and I needed them frequently cause I was drinking a LOT of water. I can only say that this staff worked together as a team and this was one of best experiences if I needed surgery. I'm glad Dr Moore and the staff at Forbes we're the team I chose read more

I went in Forbes for a total knee replacement. 23 hours later ,I started going into shock, blood pressure 60/50 and dropping. They never replenished my iv bag, so I was completely dehydrated. The second total knee replacement was completely different. Yes, I actually went back 8 weeks later. A nurse by the name of Corey was a godsend. He took such good care of me, he stayed and talked with me because he knew how scared I was because of my previous experience. Also, a woman by the name of Beth reassured me that I would not have the same experience, she made sure everything was in place and went out of her way to make sure I had the best care. Yes my rating is as good as it gets! The er was not quite as good as anticipated but I was admitted and place ina room within 2 hours. I needed a heart catheter with balloon and stent. Don't ever put your loved one in Forbes Hospital. My brother-in-law went in last year with a seizure. (The only seizure he ever had.) It was a Saturday morning. The ambulance got him stable. He was healthy, happy and absolutely loved life. He was only 63. He came out of the seizure very well and was very alert and stabile in the ER. Later on the next day he was moved to an unmonitored room on a floor with only one nurse for six patients. Sunday, after we spent the whole day with him, we left and within a half hour we got a call to come back to the Intensive Care Unit. He took another seizure and when his roommate went looking for the nurse she came but did not give him CPR, instead she called the rapid response team and we were told that took ten minutes. Code Blue was called after that. When we got to the ICU Unit they told us there was no one by his name. I looked around and found at least five people working on him and he was in a coma. He passed away a few days later. We don't feel this hospital provided the proper care for our much loved deceased family member. His cause of death was aspiration. He did not get an MRI, anti-seizure meds, or other tests until he was in a coma. We are all still devastated. (Forbes Hospital - do not follow up to my review with your standard line of "We encourage you to reach out to us at 412-858-2000 and ask for our patient experience team. We would like to talk to you more about your experience with us" because you clearly were not there for our loved one when it was a life or death situation, your words mean nothing after the fact!) read more

I have been here multiple times to a specialty office service is always slower than molasses. I wait in the waiting for for at least 1 hour every time and they somehow need to see all of my information every time even though it's already in their system. The most recent time I went (hopefully the last) the nurse who was came in before the doctor sat on her phone texting and playing around for 5 minutes while I just say there waiting for her to get on with it. My child suffered an injury yesterday and unfortunately this hospital was the closest place for medical treatment. It was our first time there and will most definitely be our last. I must say this was by far the worse hospital experience I have ever had in my life. My child arrived with my husband about 30 minutes before I arrived. I asked the intake clerk was my daughter there, she told me to have a seat. I produced ID as I am aware of HIPAA laws, she verified my daughter was in fact there. I then asked may I see her, she again told me to have a seat. As I entered the waiting room, I was dismayed to see my husband sitting there. I was then informed that he was asked to leave the treatment room, I immediately went back to the desk to inquire why a minor was alone without a parent in the treatment room? I was then promptly let back into the ER. This began a series of unacceptable events. The entire staff, minus two, I will get to them later, were beyond rude and unprofessional. When directly asked a question they don't even have the common courtesy to respond. There were two bright spots as far as the employees go. An older white gentleman with wavy, gray hair who was the front security guard was outstanding. So friendly. Also a custodian, a younger white male. His smile lit up the room - the way he was talked to by the staff was outrageous. I felt so sorry for him, no one deserves to be spoken to that way. After 4 and a half horrible hours of bad service on my way out to the parking lot I looked into the ER waiting room and silently said a prayer for all those waiting to be treated, I wanted to scream "get out while you can!". I told my husband if I ever suffer a major medical event in Monroeville, take the chance and drive me to a UPMC hospital in Oakland. I will take my chances with the traffic on the Parkway headed to Oakland before I would ever go to Forbes Regional again. read more

Speedy service in the ER, didn't have to wait forever! Extremely helpful staff from the medics in the ER to the nurse's aides in the rooms. Friendly nurses who really took their time with you and went the extra step to make you comfortable. All testing was done with speed and efficiency--didn't have to wait around for that either. Visited the emergency room and the check in was girl was not nice. The place was filthy dirty. Their were soiled linens on the floor. It is very outdated and needs an update. It's not welcoming or comforting at all. The X-ray was read wrong and called me hours later. When I went to leave the staff member at the desk was on her cell phone and didn't stop texting to acknowledge the customers. As I walked down the hall all the staff members were texting on their cell phones. Had the same experience there a couple years ago. read more

My SO underwent surgery with Dr. Anthony Ulizio, who has excellent reviews. I'm not sure if this was because of poor communication from the doctor or the hospital, or between the doctor and the hospital, but we didn't find out the time of his surgery until Friday afternoon, 3 days before his surgery (which was on Monday). We got to the hospital at 10:00, where we were told for the first time he would need to stay overnight post-op. We were originally told he would be discharged a few hours after surgery, so this was unsettling. His surgery was at noon, and I was in the waiting room until 3:00 when a nurse came out and told me we had to move our car to a different lot and the room number my SO was moved to. When I got to the room the nurse gave me, my SO wasn't there yet... and wasn't there until about an hour later. The nurses were super friendly and responsive, but they didn't know anything about my SOs case. We don't even know when he'll be able to be discharged in the morning because they said the doctors don't file discharge papers until the morning of? So basically we have no idea when he'll be able to leave tomorrow morning, any aftercare directions, or what prescriptions will be given to him. The communication is poor. But again, I don't know if this is on the hospital or on the doctor, either way they should improve their internal communication between nurses and doctors so patients aren't left in the dark and waiting hours not knowing information. read more

I went to the ER on a Friday morning. I arrived at 4 am with a horrific migraine brewing. The guard was nice, person responsible for checking me in was promoted and professional, nurse was great, and the physician worked promptly to treat me. I was given the typical migraine cocktail and fluids. I want home by 6 am and in bed the rest of the day due to the medications. I am so glad that I was given such prompt, professional, and effective care. read more
