The main draws of this dog park are the convenient location (if you're staying at the Navy Lodge) and the nice view of Pearl Harbor. Plenty of parking nearby, and you'll need base access to get here. They have a big and little dog section, but no real amenities inside. As others have mentioned, the water fountains are damaged, it's mostly dirt, poop bag dispenser is usually empty, and the fence between the big and little dog park isn't very secure. However, it's a huge space on the big dog side with an unbeatable view and there are plenty of smells to keep your pup entertained. I generally try to go early morning or early evening since it's very hot and there is very little shade here. Overall, it does what it needs to do and is very convenient if you're already on Ford Island. read more

Ford Island Dog Park is located on Ford Island naval base, which requires a valid Military/DoD ID to enter. The park is conveniently situated across the street from the Navy Lodge, which is also dog-friendly. So pets from the base, the lodge, and off-base are all welcome to play here. The section for large dogs is very spacious and it overlooks Pearl Harbor - a super view with a nice ocean breeze! The adjacent section for small dogs unfortunately doesn't have the view, but provides enough space for the little ones to get some exercise. The large section has three park benches for humans and a fire hydrant in the middle for the fellas. Maintenance on the grass seems pretty regular. Coverage is pretty dense, but when it hasn't rained for a while, it can get pretty dry and crunchy. The waiting pen is fairly huge too, a good size for more than one dog and even a stroller. My fur baby uses this area to rev up her engine because she's been so ready for the races after being couped up in the house. This is also the only section with a tree, which provides a nice shady area. The downside is the grounds that surround the tree are barren, so it can get messy with the red dirt as soon as the dogs are released into the main park. As mentioned above, bring your own water. Apparently, one of the water pipes has/had a leak, so the fountains do not work. Trash bins are available, but no bags for the Pee Oh Oh Pee. As with any other dog park, friendly is not guaranteed. So, be prepared to pull your dog away when necessary. read more

This park is really nice and quite honestly deserves a higher rating - it's huge (with an attached area for smaller dogs should you wish) and has a fantastic view of the harbor. While it's true that the water fountains are broken, that fact does not outweigh the inherent convenience and value of the park. Lots of dog friends for your pup to socialize with. read more

It's been awhile since they've closed the humane society dog park, but this is now my go-to park. Things I like about it: 1. There are 3 benches in each side - the big dog side and the small (under 35 lbs) side. 2. There is a tree over one of the benches in the small dog side. 3. There is usually a breeze so there are less bugs eating you alive (disadvantage of Hawaii Kai park is the bugs...). 4. More grassy so you/your dog don't get totally muddy (disadvantage of the Mililani park...) 5. Great sunset views 6. Restricted access 7. People that go to this park are usually watching their dog & responsible for the dog's actions. Note: bring your own bags and pickup after yourself! There usually isn't any bags in the dispenser and I don't think there is any normal cleaning crew. If they hire someone, keep in mind that this is a government facility and it is supported by tax-payer dollars. Again... PICK UP AFTER YOURSELF! read more

This dog park is huge, and that's about the best part of it. I brought my puppy here and was a little disappointed that there isn't really a small dog area, given that the gate between the small dog and large dog area is broken. The grass also has a lot of those pokey weeds and dry spots, and not a lot of shade. It's a little underkept, given that there's no provided poop bags or options for water for your dog. 2 stars - one for size, and one for the beautiful view of Oahu. read more

We started coming to this park in 2015 when we lived on Ford Island, but eventually had to stop coming because of the insane amount of sharp stickers that got stuck in my dog's paws every time we went. Fast forward to today, we are back on Ford Island to stay in the Navy Lodge. We figured we'd give the park a try again. It's been about 3 years since we last visited, so we hoped that the sticker problem had been addressed since our last time here. NOPE. We let our dog run around the park for about 10 minutes before we checked into the hotel, and she left with about 2 dozen stickers in her paws and legs. It was clearly very painful for her and I spent about 15 minutes picking them out. So be warned- if you want to utilize the big dog side of this park and your dog is even a little fluffy (we have a goldendoodle but she's clipped pretty short), thoroughly examine your dogs paws and legs when you leave. read more

This dog park is pathetic. There's no shade in the big dog area, the water doesn't work, and there were no waste bags. Not to mention the fence is only 4 feet high! The space is gross and neglected. The grass has giant spikey weeds in it that my husband stepped on and it went through his tennis shoes and cut his foot, so imagine how that would feel on your dogs paws! We went on a Sunday afternoon for an hour and only saw two other dogs. Don't waste your time by going here. Pack a bunch of water and find a dog friendly beach. read more

The view is great, as is the breeze and my dogs love to run and play here earned this park 2 1/2 stars. Rounded down because you must bring your own poop pickup bags, water, and bowl, as the water facilities appear to be out of order on a long-term basis. The gate separating the Small dog area from the Big dog area is broken. The turf is a mix of crunchy dry weeds, dirt, and grass. There are also small pokey prickly bracts from the weeds/grass, that attach to paws and fur. The location is good for those staying at the nearby hotel and those residing on Ford Island. read more

It's basically a wide open space that's fenced. The big problem I saw was that there are areas of fence that weren't very secure. I have big dogs and I'm almost positive my dogs could escape from at least two spots at this park. It does have a spectacular view of the harbor though. read more

Long story short, if you have a small dog, don't bother coming here. My corgi was constantly being harassed by a pack of big dogs while their owners just sat on the benches doing nothing. After pushing the dogs off, I decided to leave and head to Hawaii Kai Dog Park instead. Not to mention nobody seems to know how to pickup poop around here. read more

This park was ALOT smaller than I expected. It is 24 hrs but there are no lights for the park so you will be in complete darkness... My dog has a collar that lights up so I was able to watch him even though it was pitch dark. There are water fountains for ppl and dog height but the one in the big dog park wasnt working. The view was superb!! The big dog park is next to the water and the lights of the city was truly magnificent. I went on New Years Eve and was able to see amazing display of fireworks from all over... jus great. The dog park had only a few poop tht was not picked up by owners. The park grass was mowed in most areas but it had patches of dirt that can got my dog very dirty. So... 3 stars. read more

The smaller dog side has been over taken by prickly weeds that hurt the paws of your dogs. You have to use the bigger dogs side. It was a nice dog park but now maintenance is slacking. Go somewhere else. read more
