The Heat & Glo fireplace insert

We are sure happy with our new fireplace insert. Dealing with the employees has been a pleasure, Julian and Frank installed it in a flash. We purchased the "Heat and Glo", what a pretty and functional unit. I highly recommend visiting Forden's for your fireplace needs.

I purchased my fireplace insert brand new from Forden's in 2016. Their technicians came out and installed the whole system, took them hours and it seemed at times they weren't quite sure how to assemble it, it made me nervous but I trusted they knew what they were doing. Fast forward to last year when we got a crazy amount of rain... Apparently, their efforts to build/install the insert and chimney cap were not done properly, and the whole system got drenched, rusted and the control module shorted out and started a small fire. They told me I could pay a technician could come out in like 4 months to take a look at it. They wouldn't waive the fee, even given the dire situation. Needless to say, I'm devastated.

Just had Ben service our fireplace. What a great job cleaning the log set and glass. Replaced embers. Spray painted the back which showed signs of rust, and recalibrated the flame equipment. He really cares about the quality of his serv

Not enough nice things to praise. Without mentioning all the names, the sales team, installers and estimates, desk receptionist and appearance in the shop are excellent. Look at my indoor installation! Nearly finished with tile and painting: this powerhouse saves our utilities and keeps us toasty for a faction of what the electric heating costs. Installation from start to finish took 2 months including gas lines and permit.

After.

We paid them visit and had a very positive experience with the staff. In early November (2023) we ordered an insert, hoping it might come before the holidays but expecting it would come before the new year. Rick Brown (Brown Construction, our installer) was set to install the insert the first week of January (he was very clear that his December calendar was pretty full)--but he was unable to do so, because Pacific Energy had ordered an insert for Propane (we have Natural Gas). So Pacific Energy had to order a small conversion kit. That did not come until the end of March, and Rick was finally able to complete the installation, a week after the first day of spring and 4 1/2 months after we paid the 50% deposit on the insert. Appropriately, Pacific Energy emailed shortly after about the balance due, generously noting "we are not charging you for the Conversion kit from LP to NG." Since Pacific Energy ordered the wrong thing in the first place, that did not seem all that generous, especially since their error caused the installation to be delayed an additional two months, past the end of winter. The staff was very helpful in helping us choose an insert, Rick was terrific, and we're very happy with the insert now that the installation is done. Our advice to others is that if you want to be confident of having work done by Christmas (around the beginning of winter), you should probably place an order before the end of summer.

They finished a countertop replacement yesterday where we replaced old granite countertops with new quartzite. In addition to a change in stone, we also added some features like stone windowsills details, a stone backsplash and shelf behind the oven, and a waterfall edge on the peninsula. The process was ideal from start to finish. Ben was responsive and always very helpful. He listened to what we wanted and made suggestions and gave us options to get a finished product we are thrilled about. They went the extra mile to make our house livable between demo and installation. His team was friendly to my whole family (including the dog). We have worked with a handful of vendors during our remodel and Epic Stone stood out for the experience working with them and the finished product. I would gladly recommend them to anyone looking for stone work.

Granite, though, has the distinct quality of being dangerously heavy and somewhat delicate, so when the seam between granite pieces on my center island started to split, I knew i needed to call in a pro. The folks at Epic stone couldn't have been more professional. They gave me a no pressure quote over the phone and got me in within a week. I ended up having them fix the seam and drill a hole in the counter for a garbage disposal air switch. The gentleman they sent out had the rare combination of being extremely detail oriented and fun to talk to. He took his time blending different epoxy colors to make the new seam as unnoticeable as possible (and did a far better job than the builders did on the original seam). When he was done, he had me inspect his work and showed me everywhere the stone was slightly uneven around the seam (caused by house settling or original installation issues); fortunately they were very minor. He also offered to buff a corner of the slab that had chipped over the years free of charge. Like I said, I don't enjoy calling out for repair, but I wouldn't hesitate to have epic stone back the next time I need something.

During the consultation, David came out to measure and was super helpful in explaining our options. His pricing was incredibly reasonable and right in line with quotes I got from unlicensed vendors, which is great since his business is fully licensed. I handled the carpet removal, floor prep, and bought the materials myself. David and his son took care of the install and knocked it out incredibly fast in less than one day. They were efficient, tidy, and their attention to detail was great. Another vendor had told us we would need to use caulk to cover a tricky seam, but David actually undercut the drywall and slid the laminate right underneath for a perfect, seamless look. Highly recommend. He is honest, efficient, and cost-effective. I would definitely hire them again for future flooring jobs.

I'd even seen some of their timber used in the adjacent Bang The Drum brewery bar garden. But it wasn't until I wanted to build a pergola to support a new Wisteria plant that I actually went in and looked around. You'll need some imagination and a rough sketch of what you want to make so one of their carpenters can show you around and help you find what you need. Everywhere are big heaps of neatly stacked timbers from barns or wineries or old buildings. If you want something old and with character this is the place to look. I found some rough logs still with bark attached, some old fir boards from the days when 2"x4" meant real measurements and some rough thinner logs to go on top of my structure. I received lots of help with refining my design and tips on how to join it all together. They even offered to build it on site for me so I could see it all fitted and then to deliver it so I could build it at home. I chose to do my own experimenting (as its cheaper that way) but they do deliver so that saved my trying to balance it in a regular car. I've seen furniture they build in the yard: gorgeous stuff made from old wine oak flavor sticks which has color and character and a good smell. Go for a wander around and you may find the components for your next project or some fresh inspiration. I want to start birdboxes next...
