My nurse practitioner went out on maternity leave and there was a charge for services as a 'different' provider was to see me. Wait, same office so why should the patient be on the hook for new charges concerning the previous services rendered? But here is the rub, first visit only removing two skin tags pushed the billing allowance up. First tag removal fee and 2-15 (some limit) removals another fee. Only removed two skin tags to increase the client billing fees with minimum services. On the second follow-up visit which was supposed to be free on touch-up turned yielded new additional changes, new provider (NP still on maternity leave) so have to pay. While at the counter checking out already irritated on new provider charge, an office staff member was instructing the billing person to bill me the maximum charges allowed as this patient was credited on first visit for nearly all the office charges due on negotiated rates. Would appear that billing practices is a concern over patient care. I will not be recommending nor returning back to Grekin Skin Institute/Advanced Dermatology in Shelby Township or other locations.

Hello, I don't…read morerecommend Dr. Heather Orkwis based on my experience. It all started when I was having an issue with my skin after using a product. Dr. Orkwis prescribed me a few medications that didn't resolve the issue. I went back to her and requested additional treatment until we can find the right meds that work. Because with dermatology patients respond differently to the same medications and treatments can vary based on ethnic skin type. Dr. Orkwis advised me that she felt that the meds should've worked and that she wanted to do a skin test. I didn't want to jump to a skin procedure because I know it was some correlation between the product and my skin reaction but I didn't know how to solve it. The next thing I know she left the room and sent another employee in the room to tell me she wasn't going to prescribe me any medicine. Which I thought was unprofessional. I had a couple issues and because I didn't consent to invasive skin test she wouldn't help me any further. I wasted an office visit fee with her it was a useless appointment. As an adult I have the right to be involved in my treatment it's my body. Also, invasive test on skin normally will leave permanent scarring which is why unless it's absolutely necessary it shouldn't be performed. Afterward, I scheduled an appointment with a different physician at a totally different practice. I'm so glad I did. The doctor was very nice, diverse and attentive and listened to my concerns and took the time to ask intelligent questions to investigate the issues. The new doctor gave me an exam and figured out my skin issue. I was actually allergic to the product I was using on my skin throughout the year and I didn't know it. The doctor then advised me that the few meds Dr. Orkwis prescribed me shouldn't have been prescribed and that's why they didn't work. I was being treated for issues that I didn't have. New doctor wrote a prescription for me to apply and within 2 weeks my skin issue was resolved. That's why choosing the right doctor is so important because you don't want to simply give your insurance card/ alternate method of payment for someone to make a profit. You should be able to get assistance when visiting the doctor that's what a doctor is suppose to be there for helping and welcoming all patients. This isn't just me with those concerns. Previous reviews from other patients that I seen Dr. Heather Orkwis had similar concerns in past reviews. I would strongly advise you to get a 2nd opinion before allowing her to perform any invasive skin test/ procedures on you. Unless, you know without a doubt you need it. Do your research and try to choose a good dermatologist who actually cares about all patients and genuinely wants to help without quickly giving up on you. I hope this review helps. The first place I went to was a big operation, but I left there feeling like all they cared about was money. I told them that my daughter was getting married in October, and I planned to lose quite a bit of weight. They told me it didn't matter, and I could get the face-lift right away. This made no sense to me. I was also concerned because I saw women in the lobby with their faces looking red as a lobster's. I was told they had some laser treatment. The person who talked to me wasn't a doctor, and suggested a lift and laser treatment for $8800. No way was I going to trust them with my face. The second place I went to check out was a swanky plastic surgeon's office. I met with the doctor and he seemed nice and competent. He suggested a lift for my lower face and neck, and also the eyes if I chose to do so. He explained the surgery would include an overnight stay in the hospital. Being cautious, I didn't want the added risk of being put under. After talking with the doctor, I met with a woman to discuss costs. The price for the lower face-lift and neck would be over $13,000. If I decided to add the eyes, it would be over $16,000. It was unsettling to me I wasn't offered before and after pictures of women who had these procedures. I was told it's difficult to get women who are willing to give their photos, but they did show me a book after I asked. The pictures were no more impressive than the ones I saw at the first place, and the cost was so much more. I'm a retired school counselor and don't have that kind of money. This place was definitely not an option for me. I always try to get 3 estimates for anything I do. I told my girlfriend I was checking places out and she reminded me that she had a face-lift about 6 years ago with Dr. Seiger. She was very pleased with the results. She had her lower face done and fat transfer for some area for $3100! I didn't know her six years ago, but thought she looked good now. She sent me his contact information and I called scheduled a free consultation on June 2nd. I had an immediate liking for Dr. Seiger. I realized he wasn't just doing what he did for the money. My neck was terrible, but when I asked what he thought I should have done, he told me the lower face would be $2900. He said I could opt for the additional procedure for my neck for $1000, but I didn't have to. He thought he could make me look good without it. Knowing how bad my neck looked, I told him, "I only want to do this once, and I'd rather pay the extra $1000." He explained why this may be best. Since I lost about 50 pounds in the last year, he suggested using 4 cc of Juvaderm. He said he would include Botox at no charge. He showed me a book he made with 'before and after' pictures of patients. I was astounded and thought the results were just short of miraculous. They told me Dr. Seiger has done over 2500 face-lifts. I scheduled the surgery and they did blood work. After attending a conference on all the procedures, I called his office and asked if I could have fat transfer instead of Juvaderm. I was told it was no problem and would be only $400.00 more. He ended up doing the lift of face and neck, fat transfer, some Juvaderm, and Botox for $5310! I'm very pleased with the results. I explained my situation, but she ignored it and proceeded to "joke" that I must have "gone on a shopping spree earlier," while laughing. She then made another inappropriate comment suggesting I was "hiding charges from my husband". I was surprised by the lack of basic understanding of how an HSA works in a medical office setting. Separately, from a cost perspective, I was "advised" to come in monthly for follow-up appointments in order to continue receiving prescription refills, when in reality I only needed to be seen every six months. This resulted in hundreds of dollars in unnecessary visits and charges until I noticed the pattern and spoke up. Additionally, while I can't say this with certainty, my own review of the billing details has led me to believe there may have been instances of upcoding or billing for more complex services than were actually provided, which further increased my charges. There were a couple of moles and bumps that I didn't care for so they were quickly frozen and I'm happy to have them gone.
