Gave this place three tries. Three massages, three different therapists, three different types. All three times they ended the massage with 5 minutes left, and all three times they spent 95% of the time on a single general area while only spending a few minutes on the rest of my body. The massage quality itself was decent, but nothing special, especially for the price, and there was too much chiropractic-type work with the "strong hands" massage which should have been sports massage like it claimed, but it was not. The head rest on the tables is also angled downwards slightly for some reason, which makes it so your neck ends up supporting your head more than the head rest does. Nice decor and the place looks high quality, clean, especially the bathroom with a literal full makeup vanity table inside of it, but that doesn't make up for the high prices without the quality or consistency (or actually listening to the customer) to back it up. For all I know, the spa treatments may be great, but this review is about the massages... ...and their review practices, which is probably why this page is flooded with 5-star reviews. They'll text you multiple times, asking for you to review them if you give them your phone number, until you do; they'll also ask this right after you get your massage too. I feel like there was a sign saying you'd even get a discount if you did, but I can't remember for sure. So if you're wondering why there's so many 5-star reviews... That is the exact reason why I scheduled the massage - to relax and induce labor. This is the first business in two weeks that declined a prenatal massage for me. My friends and I booked a group head spa package at Forest House Spa, and we were so excited to try it. I've been to a head spa before and loved the experience, so I really wanted to bring my friends to one here in San Diego. It When we arrived, we were greeted by a very kind and friendly lady at the front. We were able to use the restroom first, and then before the session started, we sat in chairs where they examined our scalps and explained how healthy (or not-so-healthy) they were. It was actually really interesting and helpful. After that, the three of us went into a room together, laid back, and started the head spa experience. It was extremely relaxing. My hair felt so refreshed afterward, and there's just something special about having someone really care for your hair and scalp. The service also included a neck and shoulder massage, which was amazing and made the whole experience even better. The environment was calm, the service was incredibly friendly, and we all genuinely enjoyed our time there. We left feeling relaxed, pampered, and already talking about coming back. They are doing a great job marketing as of late. I had several groups of friends in different networks succumb to the marketing and book the headspa experience. Located on Miramar in a plain jane shopping plaza (you would have never thought to stop by).. it's a small humble family owned chinese massage business. They follow all the rule book procedures with waivers, etc. but it's more for "show" than actual record keeping (I appreciate the effort nonetheless). I dont think they distinguished who was who when we came as a group. Group of 6 moms booked for the discount (78 dollars pp one hour service). What they didn't plan or share was that the largest room at this business holds 4 people in one room (divided by curtains).. but this left 2 of our party in individual service rooms.. a different experience and less connected to the group. I had Elizabeth .. and after a horrible elbow r@ping experience at another chinese spa earlier that week (see separate review).. i was glad to get someone much more gentle. The other moms had 1 gentleman.. who was cautious and mindful for handling a woman.. and other chinese masseuse (and they were much more firm with their massages.. some a bit too hard). TL;DR: if you want a gentle massage, Elizabeth is your girl. EVERYONE we encountered at this business was so kind and polite and welcoming. The people here are the best feature to the business. This was a first headspa experience for me. They check your scalp with a camera.. just a quick.. "ooh look! hair follicles!" before you are ushered into the room to lie on the spa chair. TIP: do not wear necklaces or earrings. come in a top that can easily reveal chest and shoulders (above boob.. think tube top). It was a luxurious hair wash.. relaxing with warm oil and lots of petting massage and warm water. I enjoyed the experience very much... but I can't justify making this a frequent experience for myself. There was a $20 upcharge for long hair (it's well stated on their website but a little .. hard to swallow given it's 1/3 of the service).. so all in all I ended up paying over $120 bucks for a fancy hair wash with tip. Still.. it was a pleasurable experience and your hair is soft and shiny after .. and you do feel relaxed. It was also a fun experience to do with a bunch of gal pals to end a holiday break. 5 stars overall but deduct one on the long hair penalty at $20 (I think $10 would have been more reasonable.. especially since it was subjective). I did appreciate the tea bar and snackies at the end. It's a treat and overall a good experience. :) Do recommend coming to check them out! Support the small businesses. :) Book ahead and come enjoy a fun evening .. cutwater around the corner makes for an even better end to your night! read more

I was looking for a head spa to do a self care day with my mom and sister and totally lucked out by finding this spot in my area!! I was able to book 3 appointments at the same time via phone. They do ask for your card information when booking. We visited on a Sunday at 11am and there was plenty of parking. It's located by the Taco Bell off of Miramar. There was nobody there when we went. The host was nice and offered us tea. They also informed us that it was an additional $25 for our service per person since we all have long hair. We booked the general head spa experience where they do a camera view of your scalp, and then spend an hour massaging your scalp with oil, aromatherapy, and shampoo and conditioning. They massage your temples, shoulders and neck! It was a nice experience. They blow dry your roots but not much else, so you leave with wet unstyled hair. This spot is way cheaper than other locations in SD, I paid around $420 for service for 3 people. I'd recommend it! read more

I really wanted to love this place! It has great reviews and the employees are all very sweet and friendly. First you check in and then are walked to your room. The rooms at first glance are very clean and spacious enough for yourself and the other person. Once you settle in, you undress and lay down underneath covers to begin your service. The service I chose was Stress Melt Scalp Treatment. This included a 90 min service for head and scalp as well as a short targeted massage (but more like stretches). I paid about $120 (not including tip). They start off by showing you a video and pictures of your scalp, so you can see the before and after. The rest of the time is mostly relaxing although there was an instance where there was water all over my face including the ears and mouth. At first it felt relaxing then I just wanted to tell the lady to remove it but was not able to because the water was in my face and if I opened my mouth it would go inside...so that part I didn't like but it is part of the overall process, except you are not warned this will happen. The stretches did feel nice though. When done, the scalp feels very refreshed and clean. I did still see some things in my after picture of the scalp that were in the before. I think with consistency on my part, it could get better. What I did not like was that I was asking for advice on scalp care and the lady was not knowledgeable to answer my questions unfortunately. I do believe they should have some knowledge to provide feedback on scalp care. When the service was over, I started sneezing and didn't realize why until I changed and left the room. Turns out it was 30 mins before closing and they hella sprayed vinegar all over the floor. It was the strongest smell of vinegar I've ever dealt with, even the employees were sneezing and saying sorry for the smell. It would have been better for them to wait until my service was over (I was the last one). I also noticed that my hair was completely stripped from its natural oils, which is normal since it is a scalp treatment. However, it would have been nice to receive some type of conditioner service or hydrating service for after care even if it means additional price. My hair literally looked like a broom for the next 3 days. All in all its a good place to visit if you want that self-care at a more affordable price. However, I would highly recommend taking some after hair care products to do your hair routine in the bathroom before you leave. I say it's only a one time thing for the experience. read more

Make sure to check out their social for monthly specials. I had a discount (15% off?) when I came with 2 other people. We each got our own rooms. My massage therapist gave a great deep massage & checked in from time to time. However, the massage table's head was extremely uncomfortable. I had been seeing head spa related content on my Instagram for a few months now (it's like they know that I'm experiencing postpartum hair loss). I've been passing by Forest House Spa for a while now, since my husband and I are in the area fairly often, and I looked at their service menu on a whim and found they have head spa services here. I booked the 60 minute head spa + 30 minute massage combo which is such a good deal, considering I was paying that price just for a massage at a spa that I used to go to. Booking an appointment was super easy through their website. Parking here is also ample, although I did come on Juneteenth which is a holiday. Cici was my massage therapist for the day. We started off with the 30 min massage first. Although she didn't ask me what I wanted her to focus on, she found all my bad knots and did a great job focusing on those. The head spa portion was in the same room, and started off with an extreme close-up of my scalp. I'll spare you the nasty details, but it was...enlightening lol. After putting a heated eye mask on me, Cici went to WORK on my scalp. The massage with the hot oil (I think it was coconut) was amazing, and she also used a scrubby thing on my scalp. I imagine the relaxation I felt was similar to what a dog must feel when getting a good belly rub. The herbal soup that was used to rinse my scalp smelled really nice as well. After shampooing, there was a thorough rinsing with a halo style attachment, but be advised that your forehead and eye area will get wet (i.e. do not come here with makeup on, it will get ruined). Next was a hair mask with steam, then a basic blow dry and a hair tonic that made my scalp feel all tingly. I don't think my scalp has been this squeaky clean in my entire life. Cici also gave me some recommendations for how to take care of my scalp at home. I left feeling super relaxed and I will probably come back here and send my friends too! read more

My sis introduced me to head spa which I didn't know was a thing. We chose the hydrotherapy as we felt it was worth the price. I preferred the 90min stress melt scalp treatment but couldn't swallow the price tag even if my sister was treating. Cici and Cocoa were our specialists. They were both friendly and professional. Gentle care but sure know where to put the pressure where you needed it. I could've laid there endlessly for a deep tissue shoulder neck massage with Cici's skillfulness. The common area is SPACIOUS but the room with the spa beds are a bit crowded. I believe it is so you can still have quiet conversation with whomever came with you. Decor very welcoming with a modern touch. They respect your privacy but would prefer the curtains to cover more area so that you cannot be seen between the curtains or while you're changing. The complimentary glasses of rose at the end was a sweet gesture for our first time there. I see myself coming back! read more

Today, I found this head spa through Yelp, and they provided me with excellent advice during the scalp assessment. I've been dealing with an itchy scalp for a year and wasn't sure of the cause. After the head spa treatment, my scalp felt incredibly fresh, as if each hair was standing up! Regina performed a scalp assessment afterward, and the before-and-after comparison was remarkable. Before the treatment, my scalp was itchy and had a lot of flakes, but afterward, all the flakes and dead skin were gone, and my pores felt exceptionally clean. They are both skilled at what they do. They used hot oil, ginger shampoo, and had my hair in Chinese herbs. I had never felt so light! The third time I used my Classpass to book a massage session with Jennifer and she was phenomenal. She got all my knots and walked on my back. I LOVED strong pressure massage. I recently visited Forest Spa for a facial, and it was a wonderful experience! Everything felt hygienic, from the treatment rooms to the common areas, which immediately put me at ease. I was hesitant about writing this review since the people who work there are extremely nice and I'm sure have genuinely good intentions, but I left disappointed and felt I had to share. Here's why: - The thing I was MOST disappointed in was the hydrotherapy scalp treatment. I felt like I paid way too much for essentially a fancy hair wash. Sheila was super sweet and great at washing, but during the session I didn't get much (if any) of a scalp massage. It was mostly combing my hair, putting products in it, then washing it out. Sometimes it was a quick & light rub down of my neck/shoulders. At one point, it felt like my head was in a bucket with weak steamy sprinklers going off for 15 minutes - I was left alone in the room during this time. My friend who came with me for the same service had a vastly different experience with her therapist (Coco). She said that Coco massaged her the entire time both scalp and legs/back while her hair was being washed by the machine and she loved it. Not sure why I didn't get this, otherwise I definitely would have been satisfied. There doesn't seem to be consistency in their services. I was really looking forward to a good scalp massage but didn't get that. - I paid for a facial through Class Pass the next day to give them another chance. However, when I called in to confirm, they said that the facial actually cost more than what I had already paid for online and asked if I'm willing to pay the difference. I was taken aback especially because if I hadn't had called in, I would have been surprised with an extra bill at the end of the session (I ended up cancelling because of that). - As part of that, they need to work on organizing their notes: I was given a promo price for the hydrotherapy scalp massage. I've confirmed it via text and during scheduling with them, but at the end of the session the person in front initially tried to charge the full price (I had to show him the text messages to prove it). I'm not sure why they can't notate this in their system. Also, they didn't have the proper change when I tried to pay in cash and their venmo qr code wasn't working (had to manually enter the name in). TLDR: Wasn't happy with the services especially at that price point. I'm willing to pay for a good head massage, but this place wasn't it unfortunately. I really wanted to like this place! Reception was very welcoming and friendly. Purple green tea or water was offered while we waited. Looked clean although there was a slight scent of uncooked fish in the massage room. Not sure what that was all about but that needs to be fixed. My massage treatment was mediocre and borderline cringe. My masseuse was a bit clumsy, flopping back and forth, dropped the massage oil on the ground. She did not give off that "zen" vibe that I am used to. Her hands were ice cold and massage was inconsistent and did not always find the right spots or when she did she did not work it long enough. So, a bit annoying. Her stretching techniques were a little different than what I'm used to but pretty good although again, a bit sloppy. A friend coordinated their visit for a girls trip weekend retreat. We had 3 people come for 3 hours... 6 massages and 3 facials. They arrived on time and brought everything they needed with them! They were accommodating to our space in our rental (even carrying the heavy table up a full flight of stairs to the upstairs bedroom). I wanted to give you the details on what to expect at Forest House since I got a lot of explaining done but unexpected results in the end. I actually called to get an appointment when I originally was trying to book online, but couldn't find pricing and the nice girl on the phone showed me where I could find everything. She even explained that they have a membership program where you pay $70 a month and not only does 100% of that money go towards your treatment it even rolls over to the next month if you don't use it. Not just that you also get a $20 discount off your service because you're a member. My appointment was made one hour before I was going to go and she told me that I could come in and do everything when I got there. I arrived 10 minutes before my appointment and I was greeted by a cute little seven-year-old whom I'm assuming was the owner's kid and I'm all about family business as I am part of one myself, but I also think he was the one that was running and making a lot of noise during my treatment My service was done by Ling. I think he may have been the owner. He took me to my area and told me to undress and go under the sheets. My service was 90 minutes and over the phone. I was told it is 60 minutes head massage and 30 minutes neck, shoulder arm leg, and feet massage it started with I think was warm coconut oil rubbed all over my scalp and my hair, which was divine. But then the next 40 minutes was shampooing, raking and rinsing that left me pretty raw. There was even an point where my ears were being flushed with water, and I didn't like that at all and asked him to not put water in my ears, and he immediately told me that was part of the service and that people find it relaxing. I got about a 20 minute on the rest of my body and then I was blow dried and he sprayed tonic on my scalp which I feel totally opened up my pores and was very cooling. There was about 10 minutes left of my 90 minutes and I was told to sit down at some machine where they took pictures of my scalp to show me that it was clean. I've had many of these done before and usually they do before and after so that you can see the difference so the after was, I felt unnecessary, especially since I didn't know what my scalp look like before. I dressed and went to checkout and expected to pay for my membership and my service at the discounted rate and I was told that that wouldn't apply for me until next month because it takes 24 hours for your membership to kick in which I was never told. Not just that I was charged the full service amount even though I wanted to sign up for the membership and then additional 3% credit card fee needless to say I didn't end up signing up for the membership Nor will I come back? I had high hopes for this place, but I'll try other places. read more
