The receptionist was extremely rude and pressured me for a tip after I had already paid in full for my service. When I gave one, she made it clear that the amount was not enough and treated me as though I had not paid at all. It was uncomfortable, embarrassing, and completely unprofessional. The service itself was not the issue. The way I was treated by the receptionist was. A customer should never feel pressured or disrespected after paying for their service. Because of this experience, I will not be returning and cannot recommend this spa to others. We had a 1:30 appointment, but the 2:30 appointment arrived early so there was some confusion and we ended up waiting about an hour to be seen. Making the appointment was easy over the phone, and it was nice that the person who answered spoke English pretty well, which made for better communication than I have experienced elsewhere. I loved that there is a small parking lot there -- so helpful in La Jolla!! The spa is beautifully decorated and the staff is warm and kind. I had a great massage... a little different than others I've had, and like someone pointed out, the "hot stones" are a bag of hot stones laid on your upper back after that part has been massaged, and while the masseuse is working on the lower body. Emma was my masseuse today and she was careful to go hard or soft on specific areas as I requested, and was happy to go softer when I asked her to. (She is tiny but very strong!) The facility is clean and welcoming. My only suggestion is that they add additional music to avoid hearing the same piece over and over again. (I didn't mind it so much but it has got to be maddening for the employees!) Wonderful place, I will be back and I definitely recommend it. And they probably shouldn't advertise "hot stone massage" if the masseuse is not going to actually use the stones to massage you. We have been trying different couples massages around San Diego and unfortunately this one missed the mark for us. We booked a 90 minute couples massage with hot stones and aromatherapy, but the experience fell short. The biggest issue was the noise. The walls are paper thin and we heard every conversation and laugh from the lobby, along with the constant singing doorbell from the liquor store downstairs. It made it hard to relax. Also, a bummer was that the hot stones were placed on our backs, but they were not used for massage at all. My partner mentioned he had a knot that needed extra attention, but it was barely addressed. They also skipped our feet entirely. Really enjoyed our time at Hannah Wellness. The pros definitely outweigh the cons hence the five star review in spite of a few notes we have. I'll start with the negatives of the experience. Parking could have been a pain, if we did not get lucky. Maybe give extra time for parking when booking. Second note is that the room itself was a bit too cold. The massage beds I think were heated or at least warm, but the temp needed to go up in the room. While I understand that it is a full body massage, I wish they would have worked on the hands and feet a little more than they did. Lastly, the towels they used to wipe off the lotion/oil was a tad bit too coarse. I understand that towels tend to get coarse over time so maybe invest in softer ones? These things can totally be fixed so I didn't dock them any stars. I've enjoyed plenty of massages around San Diego and I'd say Hannah Wellness is easily in my top 3 places! Their staff is so nice and respectful. Loved that they were not pushy about tips. That's such a big deal as other places literally will give you a look if they think the tip is not sufficient. Their space is super clean, very modern without going over the top. I felt at ease in their couples room and the massage itself was amazing. Her hands were really soft and really worked out all my back kinks. It was a great experience overall. The best part about is that they are willing to match Groupon's pricing. I heard about hannah wellness spa through groupon, but I called them before hand and see if they would honor the same price in person if I paid at the shop instead of buying the Groupon. (groupon charges a percentage when you buy from the website and it doesn't go all straight to the business). They honored the price and I made an appointment for a couples massage. A couple hours before my appointment i got a call to confirm my appointment which was nice. It was the best massage we have ever gotten and SUCH A CLEAN SPOT. I felt comfortable, welcomed, and had great customer service from the beginning. You got to pick your aramotherapy as well as a face mask they threw in for us! The only 2 cons I will say is it was supposed to come with hot stones and we did not get that. But we did get a heating pad type thing on our backs. The second con was towards the end of my massage i got really cold, but I should of said something. I felt like the AC was hitting me. Such a disappointing and frustrating experience. I purchased a 90-minute hot stone couples massage, but we were given a 60-minute regular couples massage with no hot stones. Before the service began, the two massage therapists came in and asked if we were there for a 60-minute session. I corrected them twice, telling them it was supposed to be a 90-minute hot stone massage. They acknowledged it, so I assumed everything was correct. During the service, I also noticed there were also no hot stones. I was slightly confused by this and was worried that maybe I made a mistake and didn't select the service which included the hot stones. After the massage--which wasn't great to begin with--I checked my groupon at the front desk to confirm that it was with hot stones. I was holding my phone and showing the Groupon to the woman up front, and she immediately hit redeem. As she did, I then noticed the time on the clock behind her and realized it had only been 60 minutes as well and not 90. I told her that we only received 60 minutes and no hot stones and confirmed that it said so on the groupon. She looked at the Groupon and agreed but then continued to lie to my face and tell me that I had called and requested a 60-minute massage with no hot stones, which is completely untrue and makes no sense at all when I wanted and paid for a 90-minute with hot stones. She then proceeded to let me know that since she already redeemed the coupon, there was nothing else she could do. Her only "solution" was for me to pay for the 60-minute couples massage and take a gift card to come back another day for the correct service--even after I explained we were from out of town and couldn't return. I contacted Groupon, and the business responded by saying they did perform the correct service, which is absolutely false. What a SCAM. I would never recommend this place to anyone! Follow up to owners response: The appointment was not confirmed in full details. The receptionist asked what brought me in. I told her I had a couples massage at 4pm and she confirmed this. She did not go over the service or say if it was a 60 or 90 minute. While options were offered as a solution, I was very clear in that I was visiting from out of town and did not live in the area and could not return for the service I paid for and also did not want to pay for the 60-minute couples massage on top of the $148 90-minute couples massage I already paid for.. If the gift card was an option for a free service, then why not just refund the amount that I paid? I believe the way that this has been handled has been unprofessional and gross. Especially to call me untruthful when all this location has done is lied about this situation at hand. Horrible customer service. As additional proof, I've included a screenshot of their Groupon listing below. Their Groupon ad doesn't even offer a 60-minute couples massage, and when I called, I specifically told them I had a Groupon for the service. So this does not align with them saying the service was for a 60-minute groupon for a couples massage. Tried this place out after buying a Groupon. I do not think that the masseuse I had was certified or trained properly. It felt very similar to a cheap massage you would get in Asia. She did not properly run along muscle fibers or get into the knots I had. It was rather uncomfortable to have her forearm along my spine and scapula with what felt like bone on bone contact. At some point, she hopped on the table, straddling me, which does not happen in any of the 20+ massages I've had in America; at least without verbal consent. Overall, I would not recommend this place if you want a high quality massage. Their pricing is competitive and parking lot is a nice amenity though. Having no real guidance again I sat and waited and eventually someone appeared. (This does not bother me, I'm in no rush to be anywhere just writing to give others some background on what the process could be like) I'm understanding that in small businesses individuals wear multiple hats and multitask. They informed me they'll be with me shortly they're still finishing up another massage. So heads up just sit tight and beware language barrier in communicating with staff. It's a very tranquil space My boyfriend had a female therapist and I had a male which is fine but sometimes they're a little gentle and I love a good firm pressure. Overall the massage was pretty good, but at times I wish they had applied more pressure and worked on the knots in my upper back. At times he didn't use enough oil and so it created painful friction and was dry.
