Forklift catered my wedding at the Cambridge Multicultural Arts Center last weekend. My wife and I are extremely satisfied with the food and service. Deborah was very responsive in the months prior to the wedding, and we felt very special at our menu tasting a month prior. We had guests with a wide range of experience with catered events (from lots to never been to a catered wedding), and all of them were raving about the quality of the service they received. One guest said they ordered Rose at the bar and they were out, and then a staff member went and found that exact same guest 30 minutes later when they found an extra bottle. We just had a 40th birthday party at our home outside of Boston and hired Forklift to cater the event. There were around 80 people at the event and they did a fantastic job. They are quick to respond to emails and calls, and they do everything they say they are going to do. We didn't have to follow up with them once to make sure they would be ready for the event. We used Forklift for our wedding of 190 people at the Epicenter in Boston in January 2013. We had a fantastic experience working with them, and would hire them again in a heartbeat. There are tons of caterers in the Boston area, but we were turned off by most of them. So many charge outrageous prices for food that's straight off of an all-inclusive Love-Boat cruise. We like to eat and we care about food. We wanted a caterer focused on making great food, not fancy food. The only two caterers we found with this mindset were Season to Taste and Forklift. We decided to go with Forklift because we liked working with Dennis. We ended up being very, very happy with our decision. Here are few notes: -- We wanted to spend a little more on food during the cocktail hour because that's when people get their first food of the evening, it's when they're hungriest, it's when they're least drunk and it's when they'll remember the food. So we did a charcuterie table, a flatbread pizza station and passed food. It was all awesome. All our guests were super-happy (everybody was talking about pizza, charcuterie and duck all night), and we loved the food. -- Dennis is very organized and a pleasure to work with. He was on top of all the details we were oblivious too, he provided helpful (not annoying) reminders when necessary, solved minor problems as they came up, and executed the whole event flawlessly. -- When my wife first spoke with Dennis, he pointed out that one of the main ways in which Forklift is different from other caterers is its dedicated staff (they don't hire new contractors off the street for each gig). The result, he argued, was a much better experience for the guests. This didn't mean much to us at the time, but after the event, and after getting so many complements from guests on the "very friendly catering staff", it meant a lot. You don't want grumpy servers at your event. Dennis' smiling servers helped set the tone for the evening. -- We did most of our wedding vendor research via Yelp, and at first pass didn't find Forklift. We discovered them later via a family friend who runs a local organic farm and supplies Forklift with greens in the summer. When we spoke w/ Dennis, one of our main concerns was the Yelp presence -- only two reviews, and only one good one (obviously, the bad review is silly, since they weren't customers). We asked Dennis about this. I can't remember what he said (maybe the fact that they do fewer events, so have fewer customers to write reviews), but he had a good answer, and we ultimately found that Yelp does not yet do justice to Forklift. read more

For the record, I am a wedding planner and I have worked with loads of caterers and vendors throughout New England, but far and away, I've never enjoyed working with a catering team as much as I enjoyed working with Forklift. Coming down off of the high of a "perfect wedding," I was eager to tell Forklift what an amazing job they did. The bride and groom were so impressed, the guests ate every morsel they were served and I was put completely at ease by Dennis, Kelly and the entire staff of Forklift. We enjoyed pan seared cod with tomato butter and fresh local vegetables, and perfectly seared steak that melted in your mouth, with a Raw Bar to-die-for. The staff was so relaxed and were completely in control of the event at all times. Guests didn't even need to ask for that glass of wine or extra napkin, like mind readers, or well-seasoned professionals, the staff knew exactly what each guest needed and delivered it with a smile. On top of that, the staff is not just a group of well-trained professionals, they are a team - a group of people who seem really happy and excited about what they are doing. The waitstaff was so friendly and politely joked around with guests, it was just a perfect situation with regard to exceptional food, exceptional service and an exceptional day. Dennis and Kelly are a dream to work with and are above all, just really kind people. When people are passionate about what they do, you can sense it in their product. My husband and I got married a month ago, in October. Forklift was one of the earliest and best choices we made for our wedding. We were looking for a sustainable option for a vegan-ish meal (vegan + fish with some straight vegetarian options thrown in). Forklift's local, seasonal offerings fit the bill perfectly and were absolutely scrumptious. Deborah was a delight throughout and a huge help in all stages of the planning process, giving us recommendations for other vendors, choosing rentals, and making a rain plan (which was nearly necessary and we would have been perfectly prepared for!). From the outset, they were the only caterer who had a menu that looked interesting and was something different than the bored and stale ideas that other caterers post on their websites or offer by email. Dennis and Forklift catered my wedding last October at the Commander's Mansion in Watertown, MA and everything they did was amazing. From the very start Dennis inspired confidence and made us feel like we were in good hands. As my (now) wife and I were planning the whole thing ourselves from Washington DC, we were very particular with the vendors we chose and never thought twice about putting our trust in Dennis. I'm not sure what negative review (Jen P.) is talking about because I found Dennis to be very attentive across the board. He was easy to reach via phone or email and when he didn't have time, he let us know and we always setup another time to talk. We had months of correspondances with him, tinkering with the menu, a wine and beer tasting and even the rental place settings / linens. My wife and I wanted local, New England, sustainable food and Dennis was all about that, sourcing local cider from Ipswich, beef from NH and seasonal vegetables from around New England. We even wanted the fish to be local and Dennis called us from the fish market the day before our wedding so we could all make the decision together on what was best, fresh and appropriate for the event. Even in the 11th hour we felt we were in super-capable hands and that all of our requests were being honored. Since we were planning the wedding from afar (DC), Dennis also worked with our schedule and made time for us to do a walkthrough of the venue in July while we were in town visiting my family. We had done the tasting just the day before - to which he also invited my mother, a "discerning MOG" - which was also excellent, super professional, yet casual and a great discussion of visions and tastes, including the request for a fourth surf-and-turn entree choice. No problem, of course. At the walkthrough we literally went through the venue and hashed out a schedule for the event and it was immediately clear that Dennis knew how to do a wedding - from the transit times walking from the ceremony to the transfers of chairs, he knew what his staff had to do. He even volunteered his staff to help setup table decorations in the reception tent - amazing. The Forklift serving staff was also really great to us on the day of our wedding. My wife and I couldn't get to our cocktail / appetizer hour so they set aside food for us. As I mentioned we had multiple bars with signature cocktails and a wine / craft beer tasting and they never even blinked - handled it like the pros they are. The bartenders even hid away the last Rogue Dead Guy for me so I could enjoy it during the reception. It's those little things that really count and show how much they care. We cannot say enough about the food, staff, and general awesomeness of Forklift. We worked with Dennis and Kristen to plan our 60+ person wedding at the Boston Nature Center in Mattapan in June, 2014. We both love to eat, and love to cook, and we wanted our wedding menu to reflect our ethnicities (Italian, Irish, Chinese, and Indian) but also to be easy to eat in a casual, outdoor setting. All I had to do was tell Dennis what we were looking for, and he and his staff made magic happen. Throughout the planning process, we found communication to be exceptional, and ultimately this made the whole process a breeze. To send an email and get a response in minutes was the norm, and working with Kristen was a joy. She was extremely professional, but also very warm and friendly, and excited about our day. In addition to the menu, she came up with great seating plan ideas, and helped with decor ideas as well as helping us to arrange a vendor for wine/beer. She made the process of turning a blank outdoor space into a beautiful wedding venue a piece of cake. The day of could not have been better. My first taste after the ceremony was this delightful and refreshing mint cucumber water along with freshly made lemonade -- perfect for a hot summer day. We had passed apps during the cocktail hour, and they were the best I have ever had at a wedding. From the pork and leek dumplings, mini sliders, goat cheese pillows (decadence), mini fish n' chips, and ricotta gnudi, every bite was flavorful, fresh, and delicious. Our guests were as excited as we were about the food (and we have some hard to please people). Every single staff member was professional, friendly, and happy (even while being attacked by a group of hungry children). The dinner service was exceptional. There was a beautifully and artfully arranged buffet of our favorite foods: gorgeous summer salads, fresh fruit with coconut dipping sauce, spicy lamb curry, and mushroom risotto with the most tender and delicious beef short ribs I have ever tasted. Every item on the menu was a perfect combination of our ethnic backgrounds, and the food was so beautifully displayed. We again got rave reviews about the taste, but also how personal the menu was, and how beautiful everything was. It made the day 1000 times better to know how satisfied everyone was, especially with such an eclectic wedding menu. We decided not to go with a traditional wedding cake, and Dennis arranged for us to have passed mini tiramisu and green tea macarons -- both exceptional and fun. Planning a wedding can be very stressful. The best experience by far we had throughout our wedding planning was working with Forklift. From the first planning conversations to the last minute details, everything was executed flawlessly and with apparent ease. The food was delicious, fresh, local, beautiful, exciting, and creative. The staff was professional, kind, friendly, and invested in the quality of their work. The day was perfect, and we owe most of that to Forklift. You cannot go wrong with Forklift. Amazing. I had every intention of describing in lengthy and lurid detail how amazing Forklift catering was for our wedding, but it seems like so many others have beaten us to the punch. Our guests loved it and so did we. We planned our 40-person wedding in 5 weeks and Forklift was able to give us a brunch menu customized to our needs. We got to select a delicious variety of hors d'oeuvres that were light, fresh, and filling, as well as quiche options for the main course. We had lobster salad and mini cucumber cups and mini chicken and waffles among other delicious treats. We also had bagels and a meat spread. They were accommodating for guests who were eating paleo and halal and, since they work with local food artisans in the area, we were able to have a sweet bagel spread with Bagelsaurus bagels and even Union Square donuts. The servers were kind, professional, and fun to be with and conversation with Kristen is an absolute pleasure. She's a great person to have on your side and feeding you food! They treated us like friends and did everything they could to make sure things turned out well for us. Because we were doing our dinner a little differently by going with a separate restaurant to provide a b-b-q buffet, our situation was unique but Dennis was accomodating in every single way. Forklift provided all the passed appetizers during cocktail hour (cucumber feta cups, stuffed eggplant rolls, bite size chicken with dipping sauces, arancini balls and a mezze station). My husband and I were blown away by the quality and taste of the food during our initial tasting. It was simple, done right with real, fresh ingredients, and plated professionally and beautifully. They also coordinated all of our rental equipment since the Epicenter only provides the physical space. This was a huge undertaking with a million details and questions. Dennis was patient and accomodating along the whole way and was always available and responsive, even when I had a seemingly small or annoying question. Dennis' staff set up the whole venue and set up the tables, bar etc. exactly to my specifications. When I walked into the venue the night of our wedding I was speechless. I hired Forklift Catering recently to cater a cocktail party for around 40 people. Not only were Dennis and Jamie great to work with but the food was amazing and very reasonably priced. They cooked a total of 7 different hors d'ouvres which I chose from an extensive, varied list. Dennis and Jamie have also catered previous events for me ranging from a sit down gourmet dinner for 12 to a party for over a hundred and they have never disappointed. They are both extremely versatile and talented chefs and even when catering for large numbers the quality is never compromised and the food always delicious. I was married in December and I still think about our food. It's really THAT good. Finding a vendor who focused on locally sourced and sustainable ingredients was a priority us and when we found Kristen at Forklift I felt like I have found my foodie soulmate! She immediately sent us a proposal for everything our little hearts could dream of including a raw bar with loyal oysters (this was *my* non-negotiable), a sustainable and delicious seafood option in the dead of winter, and the most delicious short ribs I have ever eaten in my life. We really wanted the focus of our reception to be on the food and Kristen, Chef, and team made it a meal that people are still talking about three months later. Deciding on the menu was simultaneously a breeze because the Forklift team was so attentive to our likes and dislikes and incredibly difficult because the options were so plentiful! To me the highlight of how accommodating they are was our cake -- we really wanted a cake made of cheese wheels and Kristen worked tirelessly to make it happen for us (and to keep it in our budget). It was beautiful but right before the reception my stomach dropped -- we had A LOT of vegan guests, what would they do?! Forklift was already one step ahead of us and anyone who had designated that they were a vegan got something else! I was so impressed at how thoughtful they were. (They were also great with our gluten free guests and dealt seamlessly with the handful of noshows who cancelled at the last minute.) Kristen Campbell is a dream and I feel extremely lucky to have had her by my side while we were planning. I spent the most time of any of our vendors communicating with her and I genuinely missed her when it was over! It was like hanging out with a gal pal! She guided our linen and flatware choices and helped me create something I would have never dreamed of. She was also the most patient human ever as I agonized over every decision - making the best suggestions, including on how to stock the bar. I should also mention the incredibly well trained staff of shuckers, bartenders, waiters and waitresses, and cooks. They were AMAZING. Forklift made sure that every single guest felt like the bride and groom; not a glass was empty or meal served cold. We actually got a lot of compliments about the quality of the staff who took care of every single person like it was the only table. I cannot recommend Forklift and Kristen enough for any catering event. We had not a single bad bite and the most flawless logistical experience. We had a 50th anniversary celebration with sixty people catered by Forklift. Dennis was incredibly helpful in presenting menu ideas. Best of all, he really listened to what we wanted and tailored the menu to make it gluten-free, Asian fusion, using local produce. It was perfect from soup to nuts, as they say: delicious hors d''oeuvres, wonderful array of interesting salads, an amazing grilled salmon with peach salsa, and a delicious very chocolaty cake. I tried Forklift catering for the first time to celebrate my mother's 60th birthday and the arrival of some family members from abroad. My cousin's husband, present at the dinner, owns a restaurant in Caracas and he, like the rest of us, was impressed with the food presented by Dennis and Jamie from Forklift Catering. We had three hors d'oeuvres which were plentiful and delicious (particularly the risotto balls!), a delicious salad and a halibut entree which was not only beautifully presented but also full of a variety of flavors which were exquisite. An added point is that I called Dennis with less than one week to plan and he was helpful in getting a menu coordinated and worked easily within the limited time frame. The Forklift team recently catered by son's bar mitzvah party at our home. While the weather was profoundly less than desirable, the event was executed flawlessly. In fact, our entire experience with Forklift is something I will look forward to again as they have officially earned themselves "caterer of choice" designation among our family and extended family. The food was beautifully prepared and plated and beyond delicious. It was plentiful, well varied and featured what we now know to be Forlift's signature creative twist. They really took the time to get to know our family and understand the kind of vibe we wanted to create for our party and how the food could be a centerpiece of that experience. Their staff was professional, nice, fun, engaging and the service was impeccable. Every guest who I have spoken with since the party raved about the food. I have given their name to at least a dozen people in just a few short days. I would recommend them without reservation again and again and again!! read more
