Space 17 at The Forks Campground
    Lori M.

We camped in space 17 from 5/27-6/1 and loved the campground. It was clean and quiet. The camp host was very friendly and helpful. Showers are available a short drive away at Miller's Landing ($4 for 5 min). The lake is full and we even caught a trout. Campground is a short walk to the Forks Resort (burgers and onion rings are amazing). We hiked the Way of the Mono trail, visited Yosemite, enjoyed the waterfalls, fished, loved Casa Velasco, stocked up on honey at the Wednesday Farmer's Market, saw eagles, deer, duck, geese, frogs, squirrels, raccoons & 1 trout, and wished we could stay longer.

Note: Fills up quickly, we made reservations at least 6 months in advance at 7am in the morning! At that time, more than half of the sites were already reserved. We camped here end of July 2014 at campsite #3. The campsite included a picnic table, a fire pit, and was large enough for 2 tents. The best part of this campsite is that, for the most part, you are in the shade (we still brought a canopy) and a short walk up to the bathroom. In addition, you are walking distance to the lake, store/restaurant, and showers ($3/5 mins). Per our cousins who camp here every year, the water levels were really low. Still, not a bad of a walk, plus the water was nice and warm! On our last night, we all took a walk to the store and bought ice cream shakes. Great way to end our camping trip. I can't wait to go back!

Campsite #9. Was actually the biggest campsite, with the most flat land.

Ask the Community - Forks Campground

Is this area easy to get to for bigger trailers? We have a 35 foot 5th wheel. Is it all dry camping too?

Are there bear-proof lockers in this camp? If not, what is the recommended way to store your food overnight?

There are no bear boxes at this campground. We kept our coolers and food in our tent trailer.

The campsite was nice and flat with a picnic table and campfiire pit (that we couldn't use since there was a fire restriction).

Of course we got there way early because the instructions said arrive an hour before your appointment time. Good little soldiers we, arrived at 8:02 for our 9am paddle. By 8;10 they wanted to know if we wanted to get breakfast first or just go. Pffft! Lemme at it. The other good: okay, it's the Sierra Nevada. How can it not be glorious on a lake? Buuuuuut... here comes the bad: waiting, waiting, waiting at the end for someone to notice we came back. I blew my requisite emergency whistle twice in frustration and still nothing. Probably ten minutes of employees not seeing us, or maybe preoccupied with the gasoline powered craft. Which brings me to the next maybe not bad but not great... we were the only people who didn't need to sign the disclosure that we had to pay for our fuel separately. That, in and of itself isn't so bad... but it meant this 3.5 mile lake was choppier than some oceans on which we've kayaked. Constant wake. We had to stay on the shore side of the large orange buoys, and the motorized pontoon boats, sea-doos, jet boats with water skis... they were on the other side. It's like when I was a kid flying 11 hours LAX - LHR in the 1970s and the smoking section's boundary changed based on the ratio of smokers. Yeah, there was segregation but hoo, didn't make a lotta difference. Bouncy, bouncy, bouncy. Still, we're on the lake, it's a beautiful day, what's not to love? The ugly wasn't appalling by any stretch but it wasn't great either, and it's the reason I'd rate this place 3 of 5 stars. It got the job done but I didn't see any evidence that people cared. The kayak was dirty and had trash in/on it - half a paddle padding torn off and river weeds. The paddle was held together with peeling electrical tape, had only one drip ring with no padding (maybe sitting on the prow?) and the paint was chipping off. And the drink holder was half full of slimy river water. Blech. Who wants to risk drinking nasty water running down your bottle? For $250 for two hours, I would expect better.

We had our annual camping trip at one of the local campsites near Miller's Landing resort. One of our days we decided to use our 15% off coupon from our campsite to Rent a 9 persons pontoon boat. The folks working at the counter for the boat rental were friendly and helpful. I wish I could say the same thing for the dude's working at the actual boat dock. They gave us weird vibes. Like, have y'all never seen Asians renting a boat? WTF are you guys glaring at? WTF is so funny? It was irritating AF! Thankfully, the time on the water was really fun! The kids had such a good time zipping around on the water and we also rented a tube that we towed off the back of the pontoon boat. Yes, it's not a speed boat, but it was fast enough for the kids to enjoy being towed around. The next day we went back to Miller's Landing to use their public showers. Five dollars for five minutes. Make it quick! The shower's were clean, water was warm, or cold if you prefer, but the line can get long. There is no complimentary shampoo, soap, or conditioner, so be sure to BYO. It was a good option for those of us who were tent camping that NEEDED a shower. Although we didn't dine in the restaurant, we did get drinks, ice cream, and milkshake's from the café, all of which were really tasty. We will definitely plan to incorporate a boat rental, showers, and meals at Miller's Landing when we plan our annual camping trip for next year!

We told him that we were interested in looking at a Yamaha Boat. He said it was in the other showroom and we took the club car down the street to their extended property. Didn't realize how many boats they had in stock. When it came to making the deal he was not pushy, got us extra discounts within reason and spoke to Jack (the owner) to see what else they can do to sweeten the deal. Jack was pleasant, probably stressed with how busy they were that day, but still took the time to work with us to get the price right for our purchase. When we came back the next week to pick up the boat they were very good in going over the entire boat and features as well as inspecting every angle. They include basic safety gear 4 life jackets and a throwable that you can exchange for credit if you already have gear. The workers hooked up the boat and trailer to our hitch and we were on our way. It gets busy here especially around 10-11am with people getting service for their boats. A lot of drop offs and pick ups. Definitely plan on coming early when they open. Customers come in stressed but Jason, Jack and staff stay cool and calm to help everyone with their needs. I've had good luck with Orvis endorsed guides, which is why I had confidence to select. Don't. Do yourself a favor and go with another guide service. Details I booked (and paid) for my trip six months in advance, called a week before I left, and touched base again upon arrival. Note, I was not contacted by Jimmy or his staff once after booking the trip. THE NIGHT BEFORE MY TRIP, I learned that Jimmy lost my booking and had no details about the trip and in addition was injured and could not guide me himself, but offered to book a new guide for the next morning. Two guides later, a plan was set... I purchased a fishing license and drove an hour to the rendezvous calling the guide, Lyle, while in route. (Cell service in Yosemite is unreliable at best, so take it when you can get it...). The guide advised me he had a flat and would be fifteen minutes late. While waiting in the meeting spot, which was a regular meet up for local guides, I began talking to a few people. Specifically, I told them that my guide had picked up a nail in his tire and was running late.... They told me my guide's name and said this wasn't the first time he had "picked up a nail", as they'd heard this excuse within the last week. AFTER WAITING FOR MY GUIDE FIR FORTY MNUTES after the meet up time, I left. I followed up with a request for refund. I told him that he was given ample opportunity to make it right and he didn't. And no, there was never a refund offered.
