The quiet and peace offers a restorative escape. The sunlight filters through the towering trees as thin branches danced around causing shadows on the grounds. The earthy scent of pine and Yosemite 'perfume' fills the air around us. The quiet songs of hidden birds keep in tune with the gentle rustle of leaves, and beautiful colours of wild flowers sprouted here-and-there. Overall, we had a marvelous time with Mother Nature. The young gentleman manning the front desk was very courteous and tried his best to be helpful. Said he was new and lack of training is apparent. I was looking for any information on or about OHR. SNF had absolutely no brochures or maps. NOT any free information or FOR PURCHASE information. I can see why people that are trying to abide by laws and rules get in trouble. I must ask "When was the last time SNF ordered information for public"? I see it as a poorly run organization....

First off, I want to say that my 5-star rating only applies if you are visiting between mid-October…read moreand mid-April. During the rest of the year (April 15 to October 15), it's too hot to really enjoy camping either here, or at the Corp of Engineer's other campground at H.V. Eastman Lake a few miles to the northwest (Codorniz Recreation Area). The ideal months are probably November and March, especially if you are tent camping: not too hot in the daytime, not too cold at night. In December, January, and February, it's going to be really cold at night, the nights are really long (14 to15 hours), and those months have the greatest chance that it will be raining. If you are tent camping, I recommend that, if possible, you make a reconnaissance day trip in advance, and visit both the Hidden View and Codorniz campgrounds, to inspect the campsites for yourself. When tent camping, you really need the site, or at least the tent pad, to be as flat and level as possible. Both Codorniz and Hidden View are located in rolling hills and not all of the sites offer as much "flatness" as you might want, and it's almost impossible to really tell for sure what these sites are like from the photos on the Recreation.Gov website. Codorniz is not quite as hilly as Hidden View, and has more trees, but that said, the trees in both campgrounds are Valley oak (Quercus lobata), and these aren't really the best shade trees, having very small leaves. They are bare in the winter months and don't even start to develop leaves until late April, so in the winter and early spring, the trees all look dead and there's no shade at all. There are boat ramps and day-use/picnic areas at both Hensley and HV Eastman Lakes, but the lakea are relatively small, compared to Folsom Lake or Lake Oroville, and in the winter and early Spring months the water level is typically so low that the ramps might not even be open. Something to consider is that Hidden View campground is only 75 miles from Yosemite Valley: if you would like to camp somewhere with electric and water hookups that's reasonably priced, and make a day trip to Yosemite, Hidden View is a good choice.

In July, it's like visiting Satan's favorite county park. It's 110 degrees, the lake smells gross, the bottom is all silty and nasty, and the area where the lake has receded from its high water level is muddy and squelchy. I think this is where parking ticket cops and used car salesman go on vacation. Probably also where those guys whose job it is to deny workers comp claims spend a weekend. Only somebody professionally evil (or a rattlesnake) could love this place in July (and I have my doubts about the rattlesnake.) You could drive 30 mins further and be in the Sierras where it's 20 degrees cooler, the water is clean and clear and doesn't smell like the decaying dreams of a homeless fisherman, and the bottom of the swimming hole is granite rather than a squishy layered lasagna made of the bodies of rotting demon fish. I also really don't get these reviews that are like "the lake is gorgeous." It's a man-made reservoir set in a relatively barren landscape. Yellow hills and oak trees here and there. It looks exactly like what you might imagine "we put a bunch of water in a place only fit for cattle grazing" would look like. This spot is the epitome of "the part of California you drive through to get to somewhere else." Still, it's clean and easy to get to and I recommend it as a stopping point on a road trip if you need one - just not in the middle of summer.

Unlike our forest campsite, we had full hookups, internet and cell worked great at the park. My husband was concerned about the neighborhood but we had no problems. The manager was gracious and greeted us and wished us farewell. The pool was lovely and shaded much of the day which was great in the 109 temps. The showers and baths were very nice and commented on by all in the group. It was a bit of a drive into Sequoia park, but it's still very doable. About 2 hours to the main attractions. We had dinner at the Sequoia Brewing Company which we'd recommend- see review. While this wasn't our first choice, it was very nice and still allowed us to get into the park.

Over the year we had absolutely no issues with our personal belongings or management. They took care of the lawn, bushes and flowers very well. There is an in ground pool which I practically lived at in the summer! The shower house and laundry room were always clean. The long term neighbors were very friendly. I will definitely miss calling this place home. They are also great with receiving mails and packages!

The pool was slightly green, and Park had a few broken pieces, and a ton of weeds. I am so glad we didn't bring our golden doodle, because the dog park was dirt and weeks, along with our cabin area. We arrived an hour and a half before check in, we were told by the lady at the front desk that our cabin was a priority, however after an hour of waiting we had to leave to go pick up our son, we were told at 2pm that they were just need to add linens to our cabin and it will be ready, but we had to go. Check in time is 3pm. When we arrived back to the park at 4:30pm, we were told that the staff was still putting linens in our cabin. We couldn't check in until 5pm... 2 hours after their check in time. When I booked this cabin, I specifically asked the staff if the beds came with linens, or if we had to bring our own. I was told that this is similar to a hotel and all lines are provided. Grated after we checked in the office closed. We didn't realize till bed time that both bunks up stairs, and the pull out bed and no linens!! I tried calling the after hours number, only to be forwarded to voicemail. We had dirty dishes in the cabinets, old spices with spice residue in the cabinet, let over open bag of ice in the freezer, a sock in bedroom drawer. The TV WiFi wasn't working, dusty and dirty fans in the bathroom and the bedroom. AC unit in the living room wasn't working. The bedroom had 2 bedside lamps, one with a busted lamp shade and the other missing completely. The bedroom light, was flickering, and then shutting completely off, we had concerns of a shortage, but was told it was the light bulbs. The loft carpet smelt like piss. Siding coming off the staircase. Kitchen chandelier was hanging up by a plastic shoe hook. Just felt really dingy and dirty after seeing things. For the price it definitely wasn't worth it: the workers were semi helpful, and refunded me a night.
