Form & Function in downtown Boise has quickly become one of my favorite coffee spots. The staff are genuinely friendly and welcoming, and you can tell they take pride in the place. The shop is always clean and has a really comfortable atmosphere whether you're stopping in briefly or planning to stay awhile. One of the highlights is the upstairs seating area. It's cozy, bright, and overlooks the downstairs dining area, which gives it a great feel and makes it a perfect place to sit with a coffee or get some work done. They also have nice outdoor seating, especially on sunny days, which adds to the whole downtown Boise experience. The food has been consistently good and everything I've tried has been fresh. What really stands out is the management. It's very impressive and clearly shows in the staff, the attention to detail, and the overall experience. I'm still getting to know Boise, but this is definitely one of the places I recommend downtown for great coffee and a comfortable place to spend some time! read more

First stop when I touched down in Boise and I'm so glad I did! They were welcoming and kind. I forgot to ask for non diary milk and they didn't mind when I asked for a remake. My family and i favorite coffee shop in Boise downtown. I live around Meridian/Eagle area but I will still drive to get my coffee fixed here. The coffee shop is clean and bright. The shop offers house roasted coffee beans and merchandise. My dad buys their house "bright eye" beans every week for our coffee machine at home. Pastries selection is great but I wish they all inside the closed displayed so they all not dry and no fly landed to any of them. I know it's early but I love it when employees/ baristas greet us/customers "good morning"! They never smile and I feel like they had a rough night? And I never understood why My barista always ignored my request every time I ask them to make my latte extra hot and no foam/flat. I don't need any fancy milk art, just simply make my latte xtra hot. read more

Came to Form and Function this morning for a meeting. This was my first visit to this coffee joint. Walking in, I noticed how clean and pretty it looked! I love the brightness and simplicity of the coffee shop. It has two levels with seating upstairs. There were pretty flowers on some of the tables in coffee cups. I thought that that was such a fun to display flowers. I ordered an iced mocha today. They also offer breakfast and pastries. The pastries looked delicious! I only stuck with the coffee. I do look forward to coming back and trying some of their baked goods. My coffee was good. I probably should have asked for a little more chocolate. It could have been a little sweeter so I added a couple packets of sugar. But overall it was a great cup of coffee. I had a really good meeting at this venue today. It was nice to see all the locals out and about this Saturday morning! I look forward to coming back and having another cup of coffee. read more

Staff was super friendly. I was greeted when I walked in, didn't feel rushed, the food/coffee came out quickly. I ordered the pistachio mocha with their homemade cashew milk. Super rich. When a coffee shop has a coffee flight, that is usually a good sign. Form & Function did not disappoint! Very good coffee if you are just wanting good espresso and a great spot to rest and hang for awhile with a super nice upstairs loft area. I'm assuming their other drinks are good as well! The flight came with espresso, piccolo (small latte), and house drip. The espresso was pulled really well and had great flavor. We also ordered a breakfast burrito, which was really tasty (just a little too much tortilla in some places). Would absolutely go again and absolutely recommend. read more

I really liked the small size of coffee which is apt for the price (no point of paying 3 more bucks and wasting that half cup of coffee). I got a cappuccino and avacado toast. Avacado toast- sourdough bread was good but only part was it was TOO much salted. On the website they say they use black Hawaiian Lava salt, which is great but too much can't be handled. tldr; Decent coffee. This shop is down the street from my place in Boise. It has a small coffee shop vibe, and serves passable cappuccinos and other espresso drinks. The pastries are hit or miss, and are sometimes on the verge of stale. As a regular pastry lover - the inconsistency is a bit too much for my preferences. Although the pastries are likely delivered daily - there may be a problem with their storage or transportation that is contributing to gaps in freshness. Pastries are served on wood boards that are not large enough to hold the pastry. In general - the service feels distant and unwelcoming. Staff on busy and slow days appear uninterested in customer engagement, or timeliness of orders. Drinks are left on the counter and announced by the drink name only (e.g., "Cappuccino!"). This leads to confusion during busy times - when multiple customers are waiting for the same drink - staff appears uninterested in resolving the confusion. On one occasion - while waiting to order - I observed staff use the same shaker to prepare a regular milk and oat milk drink without rinsing the shaker. The staff may require additional food safety training. Overall - not a bad place for a cup of coffee, but worth passing if you're in search of a warmer atmosphere or quality pastries. read more

For my first visit, I ordered one of their seasonal lattes, which, with the season being Autumn, was a spice filled delight. The espresso is rich and smooth and they offer milk alternatives, so I was happy to have my latte made with almond milk. For a bite, I ordered their avocado toast which ranks as one of the best avocado toasts I've had anywhere--sliced fresh avocado, a beautiful sprinkling of black Hawaiian salt and seed blend, and a squeeze of lemon all over a slice of acme sourdough--seriously, does it get much better? It does. Because, they also offer the option of getting a soft boiled egg added to the mix. Yes, please and thank you. It was truly wonderful. The service was top notch, the prices are reasonable. They're a small shop but do have seating and while it does get busy, my dining companion and I were able to snag a table to leisure over our coffee. I have a love hate with Form & Function. My sister lives within walking distance so this is always the the convenient choice for coffee. The atmosphere/style is A+ and there are always a good amount people hanging out. It's perfect for meetups because it's clean, trendy and has plenty of seating. The coffee is pretty good, though I'm more a flavored latte drinker and they lack on flavor options. Truthfully- Dutch Bros is way cheaper and has 10x the flavor options, so while I would personally choose DB, I can recognize that coffee purists would love it here. I don't think anyone can deny the quality of the product here. My issue with the place is that I've always been met with super snooty staff out of the 10-15 times I've been here. It's almost like the workers here were a group of Highschool mean girls who all ended up working in a coffee shop together. I've always felt like they are annoyed that they have to work and just have bad attitudes/no friendly vibes. They're also very very slow. I know this isn't a "fast food" coffee joint (I'm pretty sure they grind the beans to order) but it shouldn't take 5 minutes to make two lattes when there are no orders ahead of my own. It's almost like they do it on purpose (or maybe it's because all three behind the counter are gossiping the entire time my order is being made). A fan of locally owned Form & Function coffee when having it at Boise eateries like The Wylder or Txikiteo, when recently in the neighborhood of Form & Function's bricks and mortar store, I moseyed in for a cuppa from them directly. I was not a fan of the metaphorically lukewarm service I received or the literally lukewarm coffee. Which the person behind the counter clearly had to have known was almost room temperature when she handed the cup to me. And yet, I had to take a sip to figure that out for myself. Given the prices of coffee here, not to mention their reputation of which they are proud, I asked to have it replaced. "Oh, it isn't hot?" (Delivered in tone rich in ennui.) As if that was a surprise to her. The interior has seating at high counter stool height and some at standard tables. There is more up a flight of stairs to a loft. But, feeling entirely unwelcome, I took my order to go. Overall the vibe inside is as lacking warmth as was the service and coffee. It isn't that I don't appreciate spare, modern-minimalism because I do. It is just that the entire space is 'chilly' and add in service issues it is the antithesis of the "all are welcome here" I prefer regardless of décor. One and done for me. PARKING: Good luck with that in this neighborhood on street or street level lots down the block...but there is a parking garage associated with The Fowler apartment building at which Form & Function sits at ground level so perhaps that garage is an alternative. I didn't check it. The street Form & Function faces has no parking allowed. ACCESSIBILITY: Level in the door from sidewalk, ample floor space inside, limited standard height seating, didn't check the loo. This place is rad! There's plenty of 2-hour parking around, and there's also plenty of outdoor seating. The indoor seating is good, too. I recommend sitting upstairs! I had their lemon chia GF muffin, which was delicious, as well as an iced almond milk latte. The atmosphere, including the music, definitely kept me motivated to get some work done, and the staff is really friendly. In terms of the drink, it wasn't my favorite latte of all time, but it was definitely refreshing! I'd go back, especially for that muffin! I snapped this photo of the cool mural up top. read more
