This place opened in May of 2012, and no one has bothered to review them? For shame! :P I walk down High Street fairly often to go to class, and I randomly came upon a sign that led me to this cute little bubble tea shoppe. This location is down at the end of Wheatsheaf Yard; it may be a bit difficult to find at first, but there are so many unique stores tucked away in alleys, so you will get used to it. I had to go down a cobblestone alley to get here, but it wasn't of the sketchy variety so don't worry. A few things I've gathered from their Facebook page: -- They take reservations: there is a room towards the back of the store that is reminscent of private Japanese Tatami rooms. The room even has a projector! It's a cute set up if you want to get a group of your friends together and watch a show while sipping on bubble tea! (Of course walk-ins are welcome); -- There are take out and catering options; I've included a few photos that show the interior of this shoppe. Now on to the bubble tea. I live in Los Angeles, and just twenty minutes away, I am privy to some of the best bubble tea I've tasted in America. With that said, I went into Formosan Tea Bar with very low expectations (which I have for all eating establishments here in the UK). I ordered the standard black milk tea (I mean ... if you can't make a STAPLE taste good, I don't trust you'll make anything else taste good!) with just a little bit of boba (which I generally don't order). The boba balls were chewy, and the drink was subtle yet flavorful. I usually like my milk tea strong, but this was pretty good. I wouldn't say it's five-star worthy as the drink was SLIGHTLY watery, but would I come back? Yes I would. Their menu is simple (pictured), and their pricing is appropriate. They only have ONE size, so that's what the price reflects. There is ample stool seating as well as a few table setups. Also, they have a stamp card if you want to get a free drink after you've filled it up! :) This is always a great incentive if a store's product is good, and Formosan Tea Bar at least makes a good black milk tea. If you have any inquiries, email -- info@formosan.co.uk Their hours are: Mon - Sat: 10:00 am - 8:00 pm Sun: 11:00 am - 6:00 pm I'll be back to try out the rest of their menu! I have to fill up this stamp card before I leave for America again in two weeks. ;)

    Green tea with pearls! Yummm

Getting a milk tea drink is probably the last thing on your mind in Oxford. I felt is was my duty to try this place out. My expectations were low. The menu presentation was excellent. I didn't hear Cantonese or Mandarin being spoken. I didn't get what I love the most "service with a smile". Usually in the use this usually cute young Asian girl servers. For an extreme example, check out and google Cafe Lu (I have never been). I am glad this place calls the Tapioca balls by Pearls! Thank you represent for Cantonese! Milk tea is Canto not Tawainese. Boba is Tawainese but it's is like finger nails on a chalkboard when I hear that word. Damn you Southern California. I try not to use the word Boba as much. If you have a true Tawainese friend like me. She kept giggling at me. The slang word in Taiwanese "boba" means boobs! You're welcome. That girl has some nice boba. I can't tell if that is all natural boba. Only in England. I asked for my milk tea drink without ice. In the US, this means a half assed lukewarm drink but in England. I got it James Bond style! Shaken not stirred! I saw the lady making my drink in a clear martini shaker and the technique was flawless. She could be a bartender. I ordered a Roasted Milk tea with glass jelly and milk pudding. I was going straight Fobbing. Oh snap! I am I FOB! I am fresh of the plane from across the pond. The drink was very rich and the sweetening was off. The drink tasted powder very Tapioca Express like. I didn't really taste the tea but it still kind of hit the spot. But you need to keep mixing because the power will settle if you take too long to drink. Cheers!

Their fruit teas are really nice in that they're real fruit and more restrained in the sweeteners, no syrups. But I'm not a fan of sugar cane, which I can taste in every one of their fruit teas. I'm a bigger fan of the Mudflip Milk Tea, which is sweetened with brown sugar, but it's only available after 2PM. I normally can't tolerate 98% of bubble tea shops' 100% sweet, they definitely practice moderation because I can drink it without going into a sugar coma. 50% is just right here, and 30% (my usual go-to) is actually barely sweetened. So that's a plus. Prices are very reasonable compared to other shops for the quality. Also, paper bags are free, but they'll charge you for a plastic carrier. And I believe there's a small discount if you can provide your own tumbler (300ml for Regular; 700m for Large). Staff definitely try to get your order right and are friendly, but since the place is still new, the people taking orders still have a long way to go in terms of efficiency.

I've always liked Yifang, they have locations in California which I've frequented quite often. I…read morethink the tea here is good, but they've got some kinks to work out. The sugar levels and sweetness and all vary per drink, which makes sense, but I think it varies so widely based on the drink, it's a bit difficult to get your drink exactly to taste on the first try. For example, the lemon tea at 50% sweetness is WAY more sour and bitter than the fruit tea at 50%. The pineapple tea at 50% sweetness is actually more like what I'd expect a 100% to be like. Unfortunately, the staff is still sorting things out, so they're not the best at recommending sweetness levels (and the sign that recommends 50% for everything might not be what you'd enjoy). That's not to say that it's not worth trying--it just might take a bit longer to figure out your ideal drink! Will likely be back though (just need to figure out my drink!).

Fantastea - Has seating, plugs, quite empty! Came here to do some work.

Only thing I'm not a fan of is the "boosters," which are more like a watered down slushy. Their menu has a good variety, and for me the sweetness level is low enough that I don't have to knock it down 3 notches to not have go into diabetic shock. Prices are also a lot more reasonable compared to the near £5 a cup ones at the center. Only down side, and it's a major one, is their service. The lady who takes the orders has never given me a smile or anything near a pleasant demeanor all the times I've ordered. However, I have seen her smile towards certain customers, so I guess it's all down to whether she likes your face/kind or not. There is no greeting, no smile, zilch pleasantries as she takes your order. However, it's always quick and done right. And somehow she always knows whether I want it taken away or for eat-in. It's also a little bit farther up the High Street, which makes this place a lot less crowded than the ones closer to the City Centre.

While the drink I tried wasn't amazing, I'd definitely give this place another chance and come back to try some of the other drinks. I came here to study a while back, and it has seating as well as plugs, but may be a bit difficult to find a seat if you're coming here with a couple of friends to study. Long story short, average drinks, average prices. Pretty average all around!
