One of the benefits to shopping on post is supposed to be that it's not taxed. That is not the case with the commissary. It's not a state or local tax, it's called a surcharge and it's 5% supposedly for upkeep but the fridges on the back isle aren't working. The commissary has been a major let down the past few months. No chicken wings, legs, or thighs. I remember when it was always a infinite supply of meat for the military community. It's getting really hard for me to continue to support this agency and about to jump on the band wagon of never mind I will leave politics for another day.. Now don't get me wrong they do beat the local competitors on most prices, so I will never hate in them for that. But I want my chicken. Also meat packers can we get less blood in our packages. Let me give it to you straight: this Commissary is horrible, disgusting, trashy, fill-in-negative-adjective-here. I was here four years ago and not a thing has changed. This place is supposedly undergoing renovations, but you could never tell by the looks of it. Just ripped up tiles and smelly grocery aisles. I live on Fort Benning, and I avoid the Commissary as much as possible. It is the definition of trash. Shelves are rarely fully stalked and those that are stalked are often in disarray. The entire structure that the Commissary exists within needs to be torn down and rebuilt from the ground up. It's absolutely​ disgusting. The staff that works here also isn't anything to write home about. While some can be friendly and helpful if confronted, most of the workers go about their way and can be rude/unfriendly when you ask for help. More interested in engaging in conversation with each other, the staff won't approach to ask if you need help finding anything. You're a nuisance, so be on your way. Lastly, the "grocery assistants" they have at the exit of the store may be escaped patients from the nearest psychiatric​ hospital. If this review seems harsh, it's meant to be. The whole "You serve us so let us serve you" mantra is absolutely​ bogus and merely an excuse to allow such an embarrassment of a structure to exist for the military. It's infuriating to me that something this bad can exist on a military installation the size of Fort Benning. Avoid this Commissary if you can; you're saving yourself. Even if you live on-post, go off-post to enjoy the quality grocery shopping experience you deserve. read more

This place is OK, but not one of the better commissaries out there. The produce is hit and miss as far as it bring fresh and/or ripe. The facility itself is somewhat updated, but some of the aisles aren't as wide as other grocery stores. The bakery is actually pretty good. Avoid this place on Saturdays and Sundays if at all possible. Also, the parking isn't all that great. Plenty of spaces, but far from the entrance to the store. read more

This isn't my first choice of places to grocery shop, but it is convenient for those of us who live on post, for last minute needs, etc. The parking lot is a train wreck & the interior setup of the store feels disorganized at best (but I can understand that with all of the remodeling going on). The staff members I've encountered have been pleasant enough, but I typically take advantage of the self-checkout for speed & convenience. I wouldn't recommend coming anywhere near here around a military payday because it is always a total madhouse. read more

Clean, organized and everyone is nice and helpful. Definitely save more here than shopping for groceries off post with current inflation. My son had an incident happen with a wasp somehow stinging him while inside in the produce area and one of the employees came over to help and got some antihistamine ointment to apply to him. I have found multiple expired items on the shelves. Also, a majority of the employees express poor customer service.

It really is hit or miss here. The workers are super unfriendly and not welcoming. Very rarely does one actually smile, or sound eager to help you locate an item, which you would think they wouldn't mind doing considering they've been remodeling the store for quite some time now and nothing is in place. The produce is hardly ever ripe, or rottens within a day of purchasing. I only shop here for the shear convenience of the fact that it is 5 minutes from our house. read more

My wife and I are retired, we shop at the commissary. We deeply appreciate the benefit we have. For the amount of people it serves I believe it does a great job. Things in life are seldom perfect but I believe commissary personnel do all they can to make shopping a pleasant experience. Now during the Covid 19 crisis retirees are still welcome, this is not the case with some bases in Florida. These people come to work everyday risking infection to see that military personnel have a place to shop. The next time we shop we will take the time to thank them for what they do. Pat S read more

Husband went in tonight around 6pm on Nov 28 to get a few things. One thing we wanted was some meat from the deli, my husband told her we wanted it shaved (falling apart) the girl at the counter literally said to my husband "how you going to do me like that" and kept complaining the whole time about having to cut it the way we wanted it... and still didn't get it the way we wanted it cut. Note this is not the first time this has happened.... why is it such a big deal to get my lunch cut the way I want it? Isn't this their job? My husband did not get this girls name, but pretty sure if you put the date and time he went you can figure out who it was. No one should have to deal with someone complaining about how a customer wants their items.. After this incident we will no longer be getting anything from the commissary. I will take my business to Publix. Also the commissary had rotisserie chickens still out that had been out since noon, that is disgusting. Plus your produce is full of gnats and is almost all the time rotten and spoiled. March 19 2018 my wife purchased goods using their debit/ credit card system. The purchase was $155.51 and the machine read "transaction not authorized" not "Declined" In any event USAA was charged twice for the same transaction and monies were available. The manager gave us a number to call because they said it was our bank and not their system. We called the number and left a voice message and today they call back and of course they insist its our bank and gave us some erroneous information to give our bank and of course our bank has no clue as to what was told to us. Long story short we had to initiate a dispute...which can take 5-7 days and then when ever they decide refund the money. I will NEVER use debit or credit at the commissary ever again!!! Oh by the way the next time I will a complaint to ensure this doesn't happen again and the commissary updates or fix their systems instead of have customers fix the issues themselves. This still leaves them with a broken or flawed transactions system which I will include in my complaint. You job is Customer Service of which we DIDN'T receive! read more

This is the first place I decided to visit straight from the airport because my new home was completely empty. I hope this review finds it's way to the minds of other patrons that will be visiting the commissary at Fort Benning for the first time. This commissary is currently going through some construction for renovation. Because of the construction, it was a little difficult navigating through the aisles to find things. I found myself circulating the store to find an item, but being it was my first visit, I think this was to be expected. I'm sure the commissary will be amazing after the renovations. The staff and employees are a lot of help if you have any questions. The parking lot is very large and you will always find parking, if it's busy you may have to park far, which is the downfall to having a large parking lot. There are self-check out stands with an attendant always present. One thing I learned, being new to the Army, is that the baggers do not get paid salary. They receive payments through tips. Please make sure to carry cash or withdraw cash at the register because the baggers are such nice hard working people. Being a mother and wife, this grocery store has everything a family needs from a grocery store. The produce is well stocked and organized. I couldn't find whole carrots, so I had to choose baby carrots, which is fine with me. There's only one thing that a family (or a single person) cannot purchase at the commissary and that's alcohol. I was looking for a bottle of wine when I realized alcohol isn't sold at the commissary. Like I said before, I'm new to the Army and forgot alcohol is usually sold at other places like a liquor store or the exchange. One last thing I was surprised about is that the commissary has a rewards program. Even though the groceries are already at a low price, don't forget to get the rewards card! read more

Last weekend I went to get a few groceries that costed $56.82. I found everything I needed and I'm always satisfied with the products and the prices. The only complaint I have is that when I went to check out, my card was declined for some reason. No biggie, this has happened here before and I just retry and it goes through. This time it decided twice and I know for a fact it's not because of insufficient funds. I don't know who would try to use a card that did not have the available funds for groceries. After the second attempt the lady suggested I try a different option on the keypad. I thought maybe there was a certain option that does not work. Anyway I try it and it says approved but only for half. She said I still owe the remaining balance. I'm not sure why that happened so I check my account on my phone as I'm standing there and it shows I was charged the full price of $56.82, plus $28.41, and now I owe the remaining balance! I show the lady my phone and how I was charged twice already. She tells me maybe I should call my bank. I tell her NO I don't need to call my bank because I'm reading the charges right here that say Ft Benning Commissary with both of those charges. Then she suggests I should try to swipe it again. I told her no I'm not going to swipe it again only to be charged a third time, that's ridiculous! I ask to speak to the manager and she try's to suggest the same things! While we're trying to figure it out she apologizes to the customers behind me like it's my fault their machine does not work properly! So they null the transaction out to retry everything but my account shows the $56.82 still on there. They took the $28.41 off but not the $56.82, which is the full price. The manager says there's something wrong with my bank. So we go to the back and she tells another lady "can you give him the help number, we've got another one" and walks out before I can even say anything. I thought to myself, she just said we've got another one which tells me this has happened before and all of that was a waste of time! Instead of trying this or trying that, she could've let me know that this has been a problem before instead of trying to make me look like the one at fault. The next day I call my bank and they verify that the charge is still on there and that I DId have the available funds at the time of purchase. So I call the help number that only allows me to make a voicemail! Yesterday my account was reimbursed. Customer service is less then satisfactory here! read more

horrible place. new management is needed. meats are bad- or goes bad well before expiration dates. veggies are bad, fruit go bad with in 2 days of purchase- go to walmart for those items. Self check out is so far out of date with its programing, its almost like the store wants to make it as frustrating as it can so you have to go to a normal check out just to be sculled by the "bagger", because you didn't give him a tip.(which was so bad, I bagged my own stuff.). they just remodeled and now have a customer service part.... that they close off and made it a regular checkout for people with carts full of stuff. Then if you have to exchange something, the worker at customer service has no idea how to do it and points at the first register, then tells you to go there, they can help you. I get in another line- wait- they cant help. I then went to the managers office for help- they were too buisy to help- they put things in the middle of the isle so only one cart can go threw either direction, workers are rude, baggers pester, expensive. I cut my bill in half just going to walmart or target. they dont price match even if you show them. and you get TAXed. they call it a surcharge to run the lights, and the building-(tax). tax at target, walmart, piggly wiggly, exc- are cheaper. read more
