I called in advance to find out what the process would be to purchase a gun. Tim took the time to tell me EVERYTHING I needed to know. I brought my son and a friend to the store and they got educated while I took the CA test. Once completed, I was given all of the information I needed to make my choice. They also informed my friend about guns and recommended that she get familiar with them before she purchased one. I loved that there was no pressure, just answers to our questions and assisting us in what we were interested in and needing. My son was blown away by how knowledgeable and helpful everyone was. I've been going here for a lot of years. Tim and staff are very helpful, knowledgeable,and down to earth regular folks. There are a lot of complaints on these reviews mostly about pricing. Knowledgeable buyers understand that consignment gun prices are set by the seller not the shop! If you need to do a PPT,do it here,especially if you want care for highly collectible guns such as most Colt handguns. You don't want to worry about unauthorized handling during a 10 day wait,I've been to places and seen a fine revolver with wear marks after 10 days,very disconcerting. I'm limited to buying mostly Colt handguns. I wish more people would consider using this shop to bring their consignment guns. If you are thinking of consigning or outright selling go here,FIRST. I just want to warn people who are thinking of coming to this establishment that the customer service is severely lacking. I walked in for my FFL transfer wearing my mask, not knowing there was a sign on the front door stating "no masks allowed". Right away I was instructed to remove it, by a gentleman named, Tim. I told him I was wearing it for my own safety and that people have been wearing masks for the past two years now but he just said, "not in here". He also said, since I was wearing my mask that he didn't know if I was there to burglarize him or not, and if I WAS, he would have shot me. He also claimed he was an ex-police officer. I guess he has the "shoot now, ask questions later" mentality. His other colleague, a woman possibly in her late 30s early 40s, also had an attitude and wasn't very courteous. Tim and his colleague could have gone about the whole thing very differently and been way more professional. Also, at the time of pick up, Tim tried to charge me an additional $10 for ammunition which I had already paid for. This was my first and last experience here. read more

Great to work with when purchasing handguns, rifles or shotguns in the State of California or out-of-state. My first choice for ffl and dross work, plus they also sell retail and consigned guns. These people did exactly what they said they would on their website. I had some guns that I wanted, but no local stores had them in stock. When I approached the store I usually used to go to, they looked at me like I was out of my mind and said that they won't do it. These were perfectly legal non-shady California-approved guns from licensed FFLs! No funny business. Then, I was lucky to have found Fort Courage Armory. I ordered my stuff online, had it shipped to Fort Courage, dropped by to do my DROS (I tracked when the stuff arrived), and 10 days later picked up my stuff. Hole in the wall store...literally. The front is just the door. Still have a banner on the marquee and have been open for a long time now. All consignment guns and if you put an offer in on a gun, they say they will call the consigned and call you but never do...either one...have never seen any new guns in there and ammo supply is always short even before the shortage. read more

Tim and the crew here are great! Very knowledgable and very easy to do business with. It's been a while since I've purchased any guns and some of the other shops I went too treated me like I had no business there. Too much "Good ol' Boy" mentality. Most shops have more attitude than firearms these days, but not here. It's not a big corporate style store so they may not have as much as some bigger ones but if you want it, I'm sure they can get it. I'll be going back again for sure. read more

The staff is incredibly helpful and friendly, patiently answering all types of questions without attitude or arrogance. It doesn't look much but the service is awesome and the prices are fair (considering this is southern California). They don't have many new guns but lots of guns on consignment. They work with gallery of guns so if you order through them, you won't get the $60 FFL charge so keep that in mind. But they also don't mind FFL and they even told me to go FFL if it's cheaper for me. Really great folks. read more

My experience with owner Tim Burns was in consigning an AR-15 in April 2011. He never called me ONCE regarding the status. Four months later the gun sold and the buyer stalled and stalled. Moral to the story. When you consign a gun IT IS NOT YOURS ANYMORE AS FAR AS THIS GUY IS CONCERNED. I had to call and call and call 10 times and finally speak to his wife -- most of the time he does not answer his business phonel. The salespeople insist Tim knows the status of every gun. But not mine! There is a place next door to Fort Courage that ONLY consigns guns online, would advise to use them though I did not. If you consign a gun you apparenlty have no rights! I was almost to the point of complaining to the state of CA or ATF. If I was going to buy a gun, I would go to the Bay Area or even Inland Empire where dealers are numerous and considerate. In short I do not recommend Fort Courage Armory. read more

Been here several times, the customer service is top notch. I've been to other stores several times (Greta's, regrettably) and I switched to fort courage permanently after I realized that they had really good prices and super honest customer service. Possibly to their own detriment, even, because Tim will tell you where you can get the best prices on ammo even if it's not from his store. I am willing to pay the extra few bucks to support an honest mom and pop store. They are respectful and won't treat youcrimina criminal when you walk through the door. Thanks guys! read more

I had an excellent experience at the Fort Courage Armory purchasing my first gun. I was a little intimidated at first because I wasn't sure how I would be treated (being a female who doesn't know a whole lot about guns) but all the employees were very friendly, patient and knowledgeable, and didn't treat me any differently than the "regulars" there. They let me try on a few shotguns for size and matched me up with my pride and joy, a Mossberg 930 12 gauge semi automatic, which I have lovingly nicknamed "Tackleberry." I've been back twice and I feel very comfortable with these guys. This gun shop gave me over three times the value on my 357 Ruger compared to the gun shop in neighboring Camarillo. The owner of this "mom and pop" gun store is Tim Burns. I found Tim and his assistant Jack to be friendly, very knowledgeable about handguns, rifles, and shotguns. He was able to locate a buyer for my consigned gun within 3 days. Tim's store is not a huge and fancy BigBox store, but he can get possession of the exact weapon you want in just a few days. Tim was a great person to deal with, and he never used any pressure to make a sale. He has a constant flow of walk-in customers, and offers excellent advice and connections for your needs. It is worth your time to go in and talk with Tim, to get advice from an experienced shooter for your gun needs, whether it is hunting, competitive shooting, self defense, or law enforcement in nature. Came to fort courage to do a private party transfer. I must say I was thourghly impressed. Guys behind the counter were very knowledgeable and friendly. This was by far the best interaction I've had at a gun store. As soon as I walked in I was greeted and asked how can I help you.
