I called and had some general questions before I made my first firearm purchase, and instead of treating me like a burden as other gun sores in Simi do(Grattas)the gentleman took the time to answer my questions and was very friendly. Just because if that I was in the store the next week to purchase my first firearm. Immediately upon entering the store they greeted me, and treated me with respect despite how I look with my tattoos. When going to Grettas I'm the past, they seem to judge the book by the cover. This is not fair and I didn't appreciate being tested like a criminal because of my tattoos. I'm assuming he's the owner since he's the only one with keys to the building is really not a pleasant person to do business with. He lies to his customers saying he's gonna be somewhere when he's not. The business is literally only open for like six hours a day four days a week and that's only if he decides he's not gonna go fishing or whatever he goes and does which is problematic because nobody else has keys so don't expect to to do any business with them in a timely fashion. They are very unreliable. If you want good customer service go to Smokin Barrel, Baron Tactical or Greta's. On a sidenote, his or volunteers whichever they may be are very nice to deal with. read more

Honestly over this place I've gone in before and was treated like I was non existent. Didn't leave a good impression on me and the store is seriously outdated. Inventory is t great and prices are over inflated. I've been going regularly to another local store for all my purchases but I recently tried them out again. I called in to ask a couple of questions and some guy with a heavy accent picked up and was super rude. He answered like I was annoying him like he had something better to do than working with customers. Straight 5 star service here! Called first to see if they purchase guns. Tim was great and said come right in! Not only do they do an 80/20 split on consignment, they are super nice and knowledgeable here! One of the guns is worth quite a bit of money and not on the Ca roster. I have used them for getting ammo delivered multiple times, and have even done an FFL transfer. I will say that they have handled these transaction well. My issue is that they are closed more often than open during their posted business hours. Easy to get stuff shipped to them, sure. Picking it up is another story. Rushed home from work one Friday to try and get there before 5, walked up at 4:45 and the doors were already locked and everyone gone. Came back the next Tuesday, as they're only open Tuesday-Friday, to find that they were closed. Getting there on a weekday from 11-5 leaves a very narrow window for most people, and then to go through all that effort multiple times only to pull up to a locked shop is super frustrating. Especially when you have a shooting excursion planned and have to cancel because you don't have ammo. I have ordered 1000's of rounds through them, but the hassle just isn't worth it. Does you no good to save money ordering online if they make it impossible to pick up. On another order, I came three days in a row, Tuesday-Thursday only to find them closed at 2 pm each time. I don't even think they ever opened those days at all. I will be using another FFL for ammo and gun purchases from now on. They've wasted enough of my time. read more

As an avid gun collector and outdoorsman I feel that I am qualified to write this review. The staff at Fort Courage Armory is rude, condescending and not very helpful. I was shopping in this store for another gun to add to my collection with no other customers in the store and the staff acted as if they were doing me a favor by assisting me. They just looked at me as if they were too good to even acknowledge or speak to me. I am not one to play the RACIST card but, I definitely sensed the RACISM in the store. I have done business with almost all of the gun stores in Ventura County and Fort Courage Armory has got to be the worst in Ventura County by far. With so many other gun stores in the area there is absolutely no reason to ever shop at Fort Courage Arms. read more

Want to find a single dealer that I can rely on. Drove a far distance & was happy with friendliness & good attitude. Working with them, this is what I've found: + Tim (owner) is easy-going & doesn't have a know-it-all attitude. +/- In person, they are all pretty helpful. Over the phone, not so much. + I e-mailed some questions, & Tim got back to me very quickly, but... - I bought a gun via internet because no store in So.Cal. had stock. Had it shipped to Fort Courage for transfer. I e-mailed several times after the 10 day wait to know when it was convenient for them, so I could plan my visit since I am pretty far away... No replies at all. - Went in to pick up gun; mentioned my e-mails & was told that they might have been too busy to respond. - Found the labels on the new factory hard case carelessly cut when opened, & thus damaged. Conclusion: Seems like they're very friendly & helpful, up to the point when it's not convenient. Could be a really nice FFL with a little improvement. read more

The other reason for purchasing a gun was that they had a good selection of used weapons on consignment and I was able to get a great deal. What can I say other than these guys are the greatest! I have transferred many firearms through them as well as purchased guns directly from them. Tim and his wife Mary Beth are two of the nicest people I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with. I've been buying and shooting firearms for over 40 years and this is the most pleasant gun shop I've ever done business with and I've been to all of them in the Simi/San Fernando valley area. Tim is extremely knowledgeable and a great guy to deal with. When they say that they are the "gun shop without the attitude" they mean it! Tim the owner is knowledgeable, kind and accommodating with an emphasis on safety and obeying the law. He can get you almost anything you need for a relatively decent price. My one wish is that the store had more stuff in stock and on the shelves rather than having to wait for special order gear. Can't blame them for not wanting to pay for all that and the space to store it though, so I'll take FCA for what it is... An awesome place to buy your gun from a great group of people who know what's what and give you great service for a good price. Competition in town is Gretas (high prices with 50/50 shot at pushy/arrogant/no service), and Force Tactical (Law Enforcement Only) for actual weapons and then WalMart and BigFive Sporting Goods for ammo and gear. It would be Force Tactical if I was L.E. (due to sheer stock size) but since I'm not, Fort Courage has me hooked. Way to go guys! read more

This place is not pretty. it's in an old corner mall that needs a face lift. Don't let that stop you from going in. It's worth it. Tim and the guys are GREAT. I've dealt with these guys on several transfers, both on private party and FFL transfers and have always enjoyed the staff and the demeanor of this store. In fact, I drive from my home near LAX to Simi Valley just because I feel comfortable there. So it pains me to write this, but on my last FFL transfer of two rifles and a scope, when the scope went missing, unfortunately their policies and procedures left me hanging. The shipping FFL had photographic evidence of the package with the scope, but when I went to do paperwork on the rifles, there was no scope and unfortunately the staff destroyed all evidence of the packaging. I have no idea what happened to the scope, but unfortunately since Ft Courage didn't have the packaging, there was no recourse with the source FFL, the carrier nor insurance. And to make matters worse, Ft Courage even provided me with a copy of the shipping contents, which included a detailed description of the missing item INITIALED by their employee upon receipt. I don't believe any malice occurred here, but their sloppy procedures screwed me out of at least $400 in scope and rings. Ft. Courage's response to me was, "Sorry, I've got nothing for you." Be careful of doing business with these people. read more

Was able to get my ammo shipped in with minimal fees and costs for holding it. Brought my Mom in also to tag along and they showed a lot of respect to her and the few questions she had. Not friendly and not helpful. I was buying a firearm for the first time. I wanted to buy a 9mm pistol. They sold me a .40 pistol (accidentally?). They made me fill out DROS again (changed from 9mm to .40) on the day I picked up the gun without explaining they had screwed up. They clearly tried to cover up their mistake and not man up to fix what went wrong. They're not knowledgeable and are just grumpy old people. read more

I was looking to get a very specific handgun that is no longer being made. I went into Fort Courage and another gun shop in Simi that I shall not name. The other store was rude and told me that after the many many hours I had researched into what I wanted that I did know what I was talking about and I was wrong about what Law Enforcement agency uses the firarm I was looking for...but thats a completely different story. I walked in and Tim knew exactly what I was looking for and directed me to a website where I could find it and have it shipped in using their FFL. In fact he even pulled it up on his ipad and showed me an option or two. After having it shipped in and filling out all of the necessary paperwork they helped me get everything I needed to keep it clean and even told me where to go to get an item that they were sold out of. I was amazed how honest they were but it is their honesty that will keep me coming back and directing everyone I know to them. read more

I'm sorry to say, I was extremely disappointed. I took a firearm in for them to sell on Feb 17th. They had me lower my price to assist in a quick sale. Then I was told it might be there for a while, because this type of firearm is not very popular. By June 21, I had not heard a word from the them. It has been four months, so I went over to check in with them. When I got there, they told me my gun had sold. When I asked when, they said in March. (They did't give me an exact date or show me any paperwork at all). I asked them, why I was not notified when it was sold, they said "well sometimes people make payments and the paperwork takes time", I said "but it sold in March, I should have been notified". The owner said, "I guess I owe you some money" and wrote me out a check. I would not do business with them again. I find it discouraging that they would sell my firearm and not contact me to let me know. I had to go there to find this out. read more

Fort Courage is a great shop. Tim is knowledgeble, helpful, and kind. The other staff in his shop are also wonderful. I have a hard time telling who works there and who is a visiting friend as they are all so friendly and helpful. Went in the other day to start the DROS paperwork for my items. He interfaces with galleryofguns.com who ship to him, or will handle shipments from other vendors to him for you. He did for me. Without a problem. Tuesday's are the bussiest there as they are closed Sunday/Monday. 5 thumbs up for the friendliest store in Simi! No issue with what they have in stock. You can have items that require an FFL shipped to them and they will help you transfer it for a fee. No issue with the fee as they do need to stay open! read more

Came in here last week and just like everyone else, their inventory is pretty much shot (pun intended). The reason I specifically give this place 3 stars is because the day I came in, they received a big shipment from UPS that were stacked in front and on top of the glass cases I was looking through. I assumed they'd make an effort to clear them out of my way, but no, they left it there. Come on guys! Take care of your customers! Haha, that's prolly not a big deal. Perhaps they were busy with more "important" things, but still, I'd like to have seen them at least make the effort. read more

I paid a manufacturer for 2 lowers. They were on back order at the time. They were to be shipped to FCA. The original estimate was that they would not ship for at least 2-3 months. After 6 months of waiting I called to find out where they were. FCA found them in a box on a shelf. They were "in storage". FCA told me the storage fees would be more than the cost to buy 2 more lowers. When I asked if I could buy the lowers I had already paid for I was told they were already "spoken for". I understand the policy regarding storage. I also accept that FCA was not responsible for contacting me to let me know my lowers were in storage. What I do not understand is why they would not let me buy what they had just found. How could they be "spoken for"? On a positive note they were indeed very 'friendly' and had no 'attitude'. read more

I just want to warn people who are thinking of coming to this establishment that the customer service is severely lacking. I walked in wearing my mask, not knowing there was a sign on the front door stating "no masks allowed". Right away I was instructed to remove it, by a gentleman named, Tim. I told him I was wearing it to be courteous and for my own safety, people have been wearing these masks for the past two years now. But he just said "not in here". He also said, since I was wearing my mask that he didn't know if I was there to rob him or not, and if I WAS, he would have shot me. He claimed he was an ex-police officer. I guess he has the "shoot now, ask questions later" mentality. His other colleague, a woman possibly in her late 30s early 40s, also had an attitude and wasn't very courteous. Tim and his colleague could have gone about the whole thing very differently and been way more professional. Also, at the time of pick up, Tim tried to charge me an additional $10 for ammo I had already paid for. This was my first and last experience here. read more

Yes, it's a hole in the wall place (literally). In fact, you really have to know it's there to find it. But once you do, you'll realize that Fort Courage Armory is the living proof that you should not "judge a book by its cover." I'm a total newbie when it comes to firearms, and a woman of a certain age to boot. I called Fort Armory looking for a firearms instructor, because I figured before I bought I ought to have a little bit more than the zero knowledge I currently had. Tim recommended an instructor, which worked out great, but that's a topic for a different review. Once I'd become a little less of a danger to myself and others, I ventured into the Armory shop. Tim and Jack were absolutely wonderful to deal with. They did not treat me like the newbie chick I clearly am. They were extremely helpful, and took ample time to discuss various guns with me, showing me the advantages and disadvantage of each. They were not trying to sell me anything, they were helping me learn quite a bit more before I made my own decision. And they are funny and sharp and really really know their business. So I ended up purchasing a Remington M&P Shield and a Mossberg Maverick 12 gauge. They helped me work through California's delightful paperwork barricades to gun ownership, and I could not be more pleased with our transaction. Appearances mean nothing when it comes to Fort Courage Armory. It's all about the range of firearms (if it's legal they'll get it for you) professional courtesy, expertise and wisdom the gentlemen at this store offer their customers. read more

I called in advance to find out what the process would be to purchase a gun. Tim took the time to tell me EVERYTHING I needed to know. I brought my son and a friend to the store and they got educated while I took the CA test. Once completed, I was given all of the information I needed to make my choice. They also informed my friend about guns and recommended that she get familiar with them before she purchased one. I loved that there was no pressure, just answers to our questions and assisting us in what we were interested in and needing. My son was blown away by how knowledgeable and helpful everyone was.
