Although an older hotel it was exceptionally clean and located right across the street from a Civil War battlefield! Will be back.

There's a nice bar and grill right around the corner in Ironton and they told us about a place called the Rustler for breakfast that did NOT disappoint.

Super clean and really nice place, I mean its still out there in the motel looking on the outside so at first wasn't expecting too much and was pleasantly surprised, the offer breakfast in the mornings as well which was pretty standard for a lot of motels. You know the usual sausage gravy and biscuits, eggs, toast fruit yogurt, and such. I well warn you the bed was not up to my standard of comfort though, it was a stiff one and wasn't the most comfortable for us, I guess its just not what were use too, it was ok as far as age and such it seem fairly new maybe a year old I guess, just a bit to hard for me. If your an outdoor person this is close to a lot of trails and other outdoor places to see, we loved the trails near by and had a nice time there. We were there during the :off season" so that probably had a lot to do with what it was nice to be there because there was hardly any traffic or people on the trails. I have never been to this part of Missouri before so It was a new experience for use. I will go back and probably stay at this location again and add my air mattress to the bed.

The room was clean, the bed comfortable, and the breakfast delicious. I would definitely stay here…read moreagain.

If you don't want to read the whole review I'll summarize by saying don't book here, it's a rundown…read moreproperty with poor food and no good river access. The bumpy, crumbling, neglected driveway into the property was the first clue. Our cabin was so musty it gave us head aches and runny noses. There was a dehumidifier running (which we emptied three times a day as no one from the property ever came to check on it) and four box fans running when we entered the unit. It had a European style ventless A/C which could not keep up with the heat and left one bedroom unusable at night for sleeping. The furniture looked as if it was from the 60's and the front porch furniture even older. The cabin was sort of clean, the bathroom faucets still had toothpaste spots from previous guests. The porch was just plain dirty with holes in the screens. On a positive note, the beds and linens were more than acceptable and the staff who worked there could not have been nicer. Food is included in your room rent and it was awful. First night dinner..some shredded slaw with a limey dressing of some sort and a plate of oily noodles topped with cube steak cooked with chunks of green peppers and onions..the cook's take on Philly Cheesesteak noodles ??? A small piece of bought carrot cake. No bread, no butter, never a choice, food is served plated. There was a coffee pot in the room which we used the first morning (as well as some complimentary Folgers) only to find not one single mug to drink it. And there were no glasses either which we had not noticed as we had bottled water. We found that when we went to pour some wine! Lunch was a "bag lunch" which would have been fine. In other places we've stayed bag lunch to the river is great, sandwich, chips, piece of fruit and a cookie and that's what we expected. Instead this is what we got, this "sandwich", no mayo, no mustard, and off brand bag of chips, no fruit, no cookie, not even a napkin. The second day was a repeat of the first but this time the sandwich was a blob of cold pulled pork on a bun and the chips, nothing else. It was like the pork you buy at Sam's Club but you would serve it heated! The charge for this wonderful food was $55 per day!! And the beautiful Black River could not be seen from the property. You had to walk down the long hill, cross the two lane gravel road, make your way through the brush to find a treacherous set of steps to reach the river. In short we left early. It is impossible to understand the 5 star reviews unless written by someone with interest in the property, especially the one written by "Sabrina". If you are looking for a place to stay go to the Black River Lodge, the property is cared for, lots of activities, three family style meals a day, and a well maintained set of steps that take you right to the river. Interestingly, these properties are owned by the same people, but Wilderness Lodge has certainly been neglected.

Great food and amenities! The black river is crystal clear and always cool and refreshingread more

I went down and spoke with the staff. I was told all rooms are fully booked as they had a wedding and asked me to call the 3rd part I booked through I booked this via capital one travel portal and spoke with them, and decided to stay because it was late We were surprised that someone knocks on our room door at 10:30 pm so aggressively, and the person defines himself as owner of the hotel , he spoke in inappropriate loud way without any respect to other residents who were sleeping at such late time including my wife who waked up so afraid He came, and instead of apologizing to us for all this inconvenience, he is an argumative person and so proud that all his rooms lack doors between room and toilet. he said that the noise of AC is normal !! He questioned why you requested a refund !! I explained that I told Capital One that I was going to stay as it was late, he kept arguing after this. I never met in my entire life, such an uncultured rude hotel owner. He wants to force people to accept his missy hotel instead of fixing the problems and ensuring customer satisfaction I have attached photos and a video to show the noise of the AC It is his responsibility as a hotel owner to ensure that the room is working well and fix all these before customer checks in. I don't recommend this place to anyone. It is a so old hotel that lacks maintenance Unless it was late and my wife was tired, I would leave to another place.

Outside grounds were very well kept. Check in was a breeze and staff was friendly and helpful. Overall hotel and room were very clean. They are still serving a hot breakfast & coffee via walk up window (with plexiglass and masked server) and still offer cold items to go or eat there of cereal, breakfast bars and fruit, juices, milk, fruit cups, etc. Tables in the breakfast room were spaced out according to Covid rules. Room & bathroom were clean, spacious and updated and our room at the back of the building offered a great view of the gold course from the 3rd floor. Bed was very comfortable & sheets were soft. No complaints but have some improvement recommendations; TV is pitifully small; the lighting in the bathroom isn't conducive to putting on make up; (much too dim); the light inside the door is a CFL and isn't bright enough to see what's in your luggage on the luggage rack. Room could use more USB outlets (there is a "hidden" one in the clock.) A cleaning staff member was not wearing a mask but when brought up to the mgr, was corrected immediately.
