The Fort Harrison Inn is such a charming and historic place to stay. I really enjoyed the character and historic feel of the property--it has a warmth and charm that you just don't get at a typical modern hotel. The bed was also very comfortable, which made for a great night's sleep after a long day. I was traveling for business, so reliable Wi-Fi was especially important to me. Unfortunately, the Wi-Fi was not steady enough to comfortably do any kind of work, which was the biggest downside to my stay. Hopefully, that's something they can improve because it would make a big difference for business travelers. They also offer a continental breakfast, and I thought it was good with a nice selection to get the morning started. This review is for a one-night stay in a King Room in the main lodge on a Monday night in early June of 2025. guest room: The bed was great and had six pillows? The room had a non-functioning but pretty fireplace, mini-fridge, television cabinet, chair, desk, and armoire. Since we were on the back of the inn, the view was uninteresting. The bathroom is a little dated, but serviceable. The shower jets were great but the shower needs deep cleaning. We were in room 229. The rate was $134 plus $10 in sales tax and $14 in hotel tax, for a total of $158. staff: Front desk staff were OK. Not overly personable, but got the job done. common spaces: Facility was previously the Ft. Benjamin Harrison hospital, so the Inn is unique and very interesting. There are a variety of common rooms - including a reading room on the first floor - and variety of shared spaces - including a window seat on the second floor. food and beverage: No bar or restaurant on-site, but lots of options nearby. The complimentary breakfast was a very pleasant surprise. Eggs, sausage, potatoes, waffles, and all the usual continental breakfast offerings were great. other: Your room key also gives you access to Ft. Harrison State Park. The inn also offers the Harrison House and four renovated Officer Homes for larger parties. Plenty of surface parking right outside. Note that check-in is around back. read more

This place was so roomy and quaint. It is an inn so it has a rustic antique like charm. They had complementary breakfast. Our room was huge! We had a main room and then off the main room was a living room slash office area. The bathroom was huge. Me and my daughter went to Indianapolis for a funeral and we loved our suite. Best value in town. It's a little outside of the city it is not near downtown. This inn is located at a state park so there is so much you can do! The suite is more like a studio apartment . This review is all about the customer service. We had a difficult stay for a variety of reasons, but Missy, Jasmine and Avery (I think I got those names right) were friendly and caring. I like the cleanliness of the entire Inn. The room was very spacious and the tiled bathroom was very nice. The entire staff should be commended. I appreciate there being a Gideon Bible in the drawer. I brought my own Bible, but if I hadn't it's good to know I can find one in the Benjamin Harrison Fort Inn. Guy and Janet were very cordial and informative. A quaint older inn tucked in to the edge of the state park. Super quiet and very comfortable rooms. So much character as compared to a "new" hotel. Service was great. Room was clean. Restaurant not open however there was breakfast every morning with lots of options. Several places to get lunch or dinner nearby. I recommend cafe Audrey which I about a block away. Be warned that there was outside construction going on as of September 2024 . Noise was minimal from the construction. The setting is beautiful and I will return on my next visit. I have no complaints. read more

I don't know how this place gets high ratings online. It is old and run down. The room was not cleaned well. The carpets are stained throughout. The staff were helpful. My room had an iron but no ironing board. The woman at the front desk had to search other rooms to find me one. The parking lot is not well lit. read more

Lovely old historic hotel, but lots of issues... The lighting in the parking lots was very dim so I could barely make out the signs or parking space lines. At first glance the King Suite that I booked was nice, but lots of issues on closer inspection! The carpet is all very old and flat and stained. The bathroom had tiles taped up, indicating it had just been repaired so the room should have been OOO (I worked in hotels as front desk and later Operations Mgr for 16 years). The lampshade as you first walked in had large dust pills on it, which is from it not being dusted for a LONG time before giving it a quick swipe with a rag. The bed was situated so that it was directly across from the door that was just maybe 10 feet away, so the hallway light shone right at your face all night. If I lay facing the other way, the 2nd room's top windows had no shades so the moonlight shone through in my face (full moon). The worst thing was that there was one pillow on the bed, lined up neatly with the other 5, that had a threadbare pillowcase and there was a heavy memory foam pillow inside that was filthy! It looked like a previous guest had left their own pillow behind at some point and it stayed there in the room but OMG it was absolutely disgusting! I put it on the floor and messaged the hotel about it. I didn't even want to use the pillow next to it, it was so nasty looking. Very disappointing stay overall. I will say that the staff was nice and the bed was comfortable. read more

When I pulled up to Fort Harrison State Park Inn, I was struck by its beauty. With its long verandas and aged brick, it looked like it was plucked from the past. And once in my room, it was abundantly clear how unique this hotel is. I was in Indy for one night for work, and because GenCon had taken up all of the affordable rooms in the city, I ended up staying here. But this turned out for the best considering it was a memorable stay. My room, which cost about $250, included not only the standard bedroom and bathroom but also a dining table and additional living-room-type seating area. It was clear that this building has lived previous lives -- come to find out, it's roughly 100 years old and has served as a hospital and officers club -- and it was made into a hotel later, thus the oddly laid out rooms. The dining table and living room were in what once was a porch -- enclosed and insulated for all seasons. The bathroom was large for a hotel with separate tub and shower. And it struck me that this would be a perfect room for a bride and her bridesmaids to get ready considering its size. But the odd layout also has some drawbacks: * The mid-size TV is in an armoire across the room, roughly 20 feet away from the end of the bed. Don't forget your glasses if you want to watch TV in bed. * A few random chairs, a mini fridge and microwave dot the small foyer area of the room, randomly, like the inn couldn't figure out where to put those. * An AC vent was right above the head of the bed. If you don't want to catch a cold from the cool air hitting your face all night, stand on the bed and close the vent before going to bed. The furniture was also a bit of a mishmash of styles and quality, giving the room a lived-in feel. And the bed was comfortable, which is important. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the inn offers free breakfast in the lobby. A quick tip, though: Don't take the coffee to-go. The lids are much too big for the cups. Overall the inn offers a large space for what you pay in a beautiful, historic building. read more

Super beautiful and very historic looking building. In a quiet neighborhood near the state park so easy access to walking exercise in the morning. Friendly staff and an awesomely unique room. Wonderfully clean, plenty pillows - and holy cats THAT BATHROOM; the huge shower with multiple jets was heavenly. I'd stay hear again anytime. The only ding is parking, only the furthest spots available when we needed one but hey, that's because this is a great Inn where lots of people want to stay. read more

The facilities are very nice but older and worn. The living rooms have desk, chair with ottoman, couch and tv. The bedroom is a good sized room with tv, refrig, micro and nice sized bathroom. Services, however, are extremely lacking. No matter how long your stay, there is no maid service at all unless specifically asked. As a guest you take your used towels, etc to the desk for daily replacement. Guests empty their trash and place it in the hall. Guests replace toilet paper by going downstairs to the desk where workers are helpful. Reservations and cancellation regulations are unknown to workers. There are no laundry facilities on site. Coffee maker was not clean. Toilet seat is broken. The elevator sounds questionable. Hot breakfast daily until 9 or 9:30 including good coffee. Grounds are beautiful. Several restaurants are near by. It is a state park but is pricey for what you get. read more

I absolutely loved this inn the last time I visited a couple of years ago, though our first room was awful and hot. They moved us to another room, Rm. 336, and I found it excellent. We loved it so much we came back this year to stay there again. However, things were much different this time when we came back. I want to preface this by saying this review is more of the service and one aspect of my experience. Overall, I loved the inn and the room I selected. I would stay there again if these issues were resolved. Here were my problems with the most current stay. Sleeping on the bed in room 336 was like sleeping on a slab of concrete. I literally woke up less refreshed than I was when I had been out walking around all day after sleeping on that absolutely God-awful bed. I had to sleep on the couch in the room because the bed was no better than going outside and sleeping on the pavement. I have no idea where you can even find such a miserable excuse for a mattress and while I love this particular room and its configuration, this mattress made me honest to God want to check out and stay at a terrible motel just so I could get a good night's sleep. Have you even felt this bed? I wouldn't let a dog sleep on it, let alone pay over $700 all told for this nightmarish excuse for bed. Plus, I was told housekeeping was unavailable due to COVID and we'd have to do our own and ask for things we need at the desk. I'm unsure why I was charged full price for my stay when my room wasn't cleaned even though I was not in my room. Saw cleaning staff coming through when I checked out at 11 AM on Monday morning (8/16) not even wearing masks, not social distancing, so why in the world could they not have cleaned the room while my fiancé and I were out during the day if they're not even concerned about catching or spreading COVID themselves? I'm fully vaccinated as is my partner and we could have used help because we had to buy our own trash bags and other items because we had to have a tidy room for our stay. Honestly ridiculous. Told the staff about this plus my concern with the absolutely abhorrent bed and all they did was apologize and didn't offer to do a thing. I feel like I was owed a discount or at least a disclaimer about housekeeping before I made my reservation or something to that effect. read more

I stayed here election night, Nov 6. Rooms downtown were at minimun $600. + and I was not about to pay that for some very basic of the DT hotels. I had always thought this place looked interesting and decided this was the time to try it. Glad I did!!! For $104. I had a wonderful King Suite. The room #138 was just down the hall from the lobby nestled in a secluded private corner, yet easy access to a decent free breakfast. The room was huge, with a sitting area with 2 walls of windows and a giant bathroom with windows for great lighting too. The room was clean, had charm & character plus a feeing of elegance. The front desk young lady that checked me in was extremely polite and helpful which set the tone for a great stay. If ever I were to stay in Indy again hands down this would be my choice! read more

I've stayed in a lot of hotels in a lot of places and this place was really cool. It's the old headquarters building at what was Fort Benjamin Harrison, a former U. S. Army post. The Inn is a part of Fort Harrison State Park and is located right next to it. This place has rooms and old former officer's homes where you can rent the whole house out. So this makes it a perfect place for family reunions with use of the park for outdoor activity. They also have a bar area and banquet room, but they are rentable, not constantly open. For the golfers they are right next to a very nice golf course right next to it. The rooms are very spacious and well maintained. Given that the buildings have been around for about a century or more, the place is well taken care of and has many modern updates. The air conditioning worked great and the shower had body sprayers which were really nice. Also nice was that after 4 people showered there was still plenty of hot water. Pricing is very reasonable and the staff was very helpful with every need. If you like your breakfast at the hotel, that is the only thing that will let you down. But that being said, there are tons of eateries in the local area that you could almost walk to if you wanted. A couple miles away you even have a Kroger, Walgreens, and a Walmart so you you can get what you want there too. Safety wise there is a police station across the street and the area is pretty quiet and isolated feeling which is great for little getaways too. Long story short, given the price, location to the interstate, and local eateries, I plan to stay here every time I come back to Indy. read more

This was my second visit to the Inn and much more enjoyable than the first. Our room was a double double and while not large was very comfortable. It had a refrigerator - great for our finds at the Smoked Market. The bathroom was large. We loved the full-length vintage mirror and the shower with multiple heads. The staff here (and at all the Indiana State Park facilities) was friendly and helpful. Handicapped parking was right in front and the elevator landed a few feet from our room. I looked at booking through the DNR but was unwilling to pay $130 with tax. Booking.com offered the same room for $91 with tax. I suspect that the state cannot discount the hotel but can through a 3rd party. Considering that we were one of half a dozen rooms booked it makes sense for them to use that resource. A nice little breakfast is served as well as coffee that is available 24 hours a day. This is a great choice if you are visiting the area and don't mind staying outside of downtown. read more

I stayed here recently during the DNR Inns Winter Sale, which if you've never taken advantage of, you should. You get to stay two nights for the price of one!! I chose Ft. Harrison because I have always wanted to stay here and now I have. :) It is older, so it has the nice creepy vibe from The Shining if you're into old hotels and hauntings. This used to be the hospital so I am convinced there are ghosts! There is definitely a strange, feeling. ;) I didn't see any ghosts, but I did hear some crickety sounds and the elevator is a sure creep out! The rooms have all been remodeled and are fabulous! My shower had those sweet side jets as well as the above shower head! I was in the shower forever! In the morning they offer a nice continental breakfast :) The only reason I am not giving it a 5, is because the check in staff were definitely not the friendliest and one person just didn't want to bother checking me in because he couldn't figure out how to do it. HA HA. Priceless. All in all, I'd stay again. read more

I recently spent two nights here. I must admit that when I first arrived I thought I'd made a big mistake. The outside of the building does not make a great first impression. It badly needs a new coat of paint as the facility looks like it's best days are over. However, the room I got was really nice and a bit odd in a good way. I had a corner room that included a large enclosed sunroom. This was wonderful! The inn is close to several good restaurants and of course the park's hiking trails and golf course. On the downside, the inn doesn't have much to offer in terms of a nice sitting room, lobby or eating area and the breakfast food was nothing to get excited about. Even so, I'm sure I will be back! read more

This is my 4th stay in recent years. The location is convenient to family and friends we visit on a regular basis. They gave us a much smaller room even though I think I requested the same type/price as in the past. There are only 4 cars in the parking lot at 10 PM so I'm guessing the much nicer king rooms we have had in the past are available. Bathroom has no place for personal items - the kind of thing that would be in drawers or cabinets in my own bathroom, but when traveling would usually need to put on the counter. Very little natural light in this room. Feel like we are in a third floor dungeon! The whole place, including the room, is looking very shabby. It doesn't appear that there are very many guests tonight, but they could not spare an extra luggage rack. Why do hotels do that? If there are two people in a room then there should be two luggage racks! Think we will stay some place where we can get reward points next time. read more

When I come to Indy I usually stay in one of the big box hotels off either Meridian or Keystone which is convenient to family. This trip the hotels were higher than usual which led me to the Inn. Loved the concept of re-purposing buildings on the base (the Inn is the old hospital). Not too far out of the way for me to get where I needed to be. Inside is top notch all around. The staff is very friendly. The king room was enormous and comfortable. Mine was carved out of the eaves with two small windows. The room was so nice I didn't feel like I was missing out. My only less than stellar comments: 1) please remember to clean the ceiling vents. Once I looked up and could help not noticing over and over; 2) breakfast was limiting if you're trying for something more healthy. One morning was a hot apple compote which was a winner. Could have eaten this every day but alas it was served only once. Not that shredded wheat and yogurt are bad...... I'll definitely be back. read more

Remote to the tv was broke and the batteries were dead.Coffee maker but no coffee packs in the room.Price was a bit high for what you are getting. Should have been a $60.00 room.Carpet in room is very stained (room229) Teenagers too busy talking at the front desk Instead of keeping breakfast items filled (should be trained better) unfortunately we will not be staying here anymore. read more
