O'Neil Woods is an interesting Metro Park connected to the CVNP. I did a hike along the Buckeye…read moreTrail starting at Ira Road to O'Neil Woods, dd the loop trail and then back to my car. The O'Neil Woods loop is a nice shorter moderate hike; good elevation change, some steeper portions and a variety of scenery. Starting at the parking lot and taking the trail at the far end of the lot you will have a fairly easy descent on a wider trail through the woods. After you cross the road you will have some nice views of the river and then the big red barn. Crossing back over the road is a narrower trail with steep switchbacks that will get your blood pumping as you climb about 300 vertical feet. At the top you will stay with the narrow trail through the woods and cross a bridge before completing the loop. Around the parking lot is a number of benches and picnic tables, including a picnic area overlooking a nice little gorge; looks like a very nice place to grab some food or just hang out. O'Neil Woods is not huge, there is just one trail that actually presents a nice challenge. Well worth a visit if you are looking for a shorter hike that will still give you a good workout.

The low area, along side the river, offers a flowered grassy fertile meadow and river views. the rocky hillside climbs give a cool overlook. The trail takes an hour if you are an accomplished hiker. One of our local treasures, this metro-park site is home to Adams Run Trail. This 3 mile trail has…read more300' of steep elevation, a number of stream crossings and some slippery inclines. It is not wheelchair friendly or a good choice for small children or elderly hikers. It is a good workout that begins in a large gravel parking lot and follows along and crisscross a stream for 1/2 mile east, you'll see evidence of former storm washouts and erosion. Then the trail follows along some steep uphill climbs through a stand of tall pines into a high meadow, and a short spur trail takes you to a area called "top of the world" with beautiful sunsets and views. The winding, steep trail down will test your boots. When I was preparing for the Appalachian Trail and hikes out west, I used this trail to train and test out gear. Do not attempt bicycles... you'll hurt someone.

One of my absolute favorite metro parks in cuyahoga valley national park…read more There are two loops here - one is about 3 miles and one is closer to 1 mile. It's awesome it's a loop- so it's a one way trail, especially during the pandemic. I don't often have other people coming the opposite way at me. The trail runs near a creek into the forest and into the prairie, and back to the parking lot. There's a decent amount of elevation and it can occasionally get muddy following rains, so hiking boots would be best. It's not a paved trail. There are also no trash cans also the trail, but one at the beginning next to the parking lot. There's also an outhouse there. I never have an issue finding parking either, because it's a fairly big lot. I love Hampton hills and it's one of my go to trails in the area.

Another great Summit County Metro park. Nestled in unassumingly. Unless you are looking for it, you…read moremost likely wouldn't notice it. There are multiple parking areas, two walking paths (1 mile and 2 mile). A bridle trail for horses. A boathouse for rentals. A small dock area. Platform for shore fishing. Several small ponds and of course the main Lake. A bathhouse with restrooms, showers and changing areas. A small concession stand. Picnic tables, benches and grills. A pavilion. A Sandy beach and swimming area. Lots to offer for sure. The nature preservation is wonderful. No paved walking paths. But the smaller of the two is fairly flat. They just added an archery location with targets two summers ago. Even if you are not able/want to use the trails, there are still plenty of areas to park and sit or sit at a table and enjoy the outdoors. It's nice that it's not too overwhelming with people as it's size allows for numbers but also for a quiet and calm experience as well. Lots of doggies walk the trails too.

The stand is made of wood, laser-cut, and then carefully hand-sanded by volunteers--each one finished with such care. The calendar itself changes monthly, with sturdy cards featuring beautiful photographs from parks all across Summit County. It's a simple piece, but beautiful in its craftsmanship and the story behind it. The young Lady at the front desk of the main office gave us all the details and a lot of information on the summit metro parks. #SummitMetroParks #SummitCounty #SupportLocal #CommunityStrong #VolunteerMade #LocalLove #OhioNature #ExploreLocal #ParkLife #NatureAppreciation

Came here for Mothers Day. Worth the visit to see the house and gardens…read more We were told when you come around Christmas there are not as many rooms open for the house tour. But on Mother's Day we got to see a lot of the rooms we never saw. And got to ask more questions and take our time a bit more. All around good experience. You want to see as many of the rooms as possible. Pro tip. If you are doing a house and garden tour leave the house thru the front door. This way you don't have to back track the gardens. Out the front door take a right to head along the back of the house and the gardens. Don't miss the greenhouse. The Japanese garden and the really all the gardens are beautiful. It's a nice walk. You can definitely get your steps in. It's a nice afternoon. We spent about 2.5 hours. Could have spent longer. But we were hungry. This was a good experience overall and fun afternoon.

Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens is such a beautiful place to visit all year round. I remember going…read morehere several times as a child for field trips and I have always been fascinated with this home. Several years ago I found out that they have special tours at Christmas time where you can tour the house and each room has a different theme and you can also tour the grounds where they have Christmas light displays. I believe the tickets this past Christmas or $28 each which goes towards keeping up the estate and grounds. I feel like that's a fair price. There is so much to see in the estate and out on the grounds and I suggest coming here during the year as well for a regular tour. The Christmas decor is so beautiful each room in the estate is typically sponsored by a local business. It's so interesting to see some of the old furniture, dishes, light fixtures, truly whatever you can think of it's all so beautiful. They even have a greenhouse on the property where you can go to purchase plants, especially poinsettias for the Christmas season. They have a little concession stand where they sell things like hot chocolate, coffee, wine and beer, cookies, chili, soft pretzels, etc. Santa even stops by during certain hours where you can visit him. Overall, this is one of my favorite places to visit during the Christmas season and as a child I loved coming here during the year.
