I wanted a Whiskey Sour, and because they did not have that on the menu, she suggested the Smoked Rosemary Blackberry Bourbon Sour. She was spot on; it was delicious, and it was my first time to have a smoked drink. It was different, and every drop was enjoyed. Our entertainment for the evening was Clover the Violinist. She is FULL of talent and kept our tunes going the whole night; she perfectly mastered all genres. I was happy to find out, she plays at that location occasionally. The noise level was extremely high...we literally had to yell just to have a conversation with each other. Service was also very slow. It took about 15 minutes just to be acknowledged at the bar, and close to 30 minutes to actually receive a drink. When I finally ordered, I told the bartender to make her favorite drink. She made something that included raw egg whites (which I later learned is common in certain cocktails), but it wasn't mentioned or explained at the time. A few hours later, I became very sick...vomiting and dealing with what felt like severe food poisoning all night and through the next 24 hours. After looking into it, I suspect it may have been related to the raw egg used in the drink. Just something to be aware of if you're ordering drinks like a whiskey sour or anything that may include egg whites. After getting our receipt (which you need for the speakeasy entry code), we checked out the speakeasy portion, but the vibe there wasn't great either..pretty must the same as the other part of the bar. We ended up leaving within about five minutes. Overall, the experience didn't live up to the hype for us....between the noise, long wait times, and how we were treated, it just wasn't enjoyable. For comparison, the bar next door, Archibald, felt much more welcoming. Maybe regulars have a different experience, but as first-time guests, we were not impressed.

This was about the third time I've ever been to Good Karma. (Three times in about seven years. Guess that's not a good ratio. Ha ha!) Surprisingly, I thought their inventory was a hell of a lot better than the previous visit. The tobacconist on duty recommended the Buenaventura (6x60), which I have smoked before. Ended up grabbing four of them. (They were $6.75, which was as close to a budget smoke as I could find in here.) The smoke was absolutely fabulous and better than what I remember. The cigar burned even and had a great taste, which indicates a great humidor. The tobacconist on duty was also great at waiting on multiple customers at the same time without neglecting anyone. Very friendly. The place is large, seems small when walking in, but they have meetings rooms towards the back that can house plenty more. There are plenty of leather chairs and sofas, tv's a plenty to watch sports, tho I didn't hear any that have volume turned up to any audible levels. The cigars they offer are more local and off brand types. I didn't see any of the mainstream brands like Monte Cristo, Romeo y Juliet, etc. The bar is a full bar and prices are normal bar prices. It's worth coming in for a visit and a comfortable sit while enjoying a whiskey and cigar.
