On the weekend there was also some kind of party from an inconsiderate group that went halfway through the night. I got to sleep with some white noise in the tent but I would've been livid if I was in a site next to those people. Firewood is expensive here at $10/bundle. Most people don't camp here for the park itself though but rather as a place to stay while going to Niagara. It is conveniently located to things nearby, and camping there also gets you free parking in all the nearby parks.

Today the temps were warm in the mid to high 20s, and the windchill was 10 degrees less - it doesn't bother us! This time when we arrived, we saw a band of teens playing hockey on the ice! They were doing quite well too! Quite a few people were hiking in and out, and there were several cars in the lots. Did not see anyone at the new children's playground. We'll be back!

Quiet and secluded trails leading to picturesque hidden ponds. Wide enough for two skiing side by side in some spots. Meandering trails keep you out of the wind that can be bitter cold out in the open areas (like where frisbee golf is). Many birds flying through the trees, robins, blue jays and hawks too. Plenty of parking and nicely plowed. Fun!

We did not walk to the Queens Royal Park. We will have to do that on our next visit. Rather, we stopped near the Battlefield of Fort George National Historic Site. When you're done shopping and eating in the town of Niagara on the Lake, make your way over here for nature at its finest. There's a reason why they called this the Great Lakes.

What a beautiful, natural, "un-touristy" stretch of rocky shoreline, adjacent to grassy meadow…read morefields, just two blocks from the main drag (Queen Street) in Niagara-on-the-Lake. This area is akin to a craggy shoreline with a walking trail by the water's edge. You can clearly see an old, rocky fort/garrison just across the bay. My TO friends told me that area is actually in Nw York state, and the building is Fort Niagara. When I say it's close, I'm saying a good swimmer could swim there from here! There is a large, prominent hexagonal gazebo centrally located on the grassy stretch by the water's edge. It is quite Victorian in style, with white wooden cut-outs and embellishments. I thought it would make for a gorgeous location, with he craggy shoreline and Lake Ontario behind it, for wedding or engagement photos, or any momentous occasion, really. Just a beautiful site. (A gallery owner later informed us that this gazebo was built for the Stephen King movie, "The Dead Zone", and they gifted it to the town when the movie was done, as so many locals loved it. It really does seem to fit perfectly on the site). There is a large parking lot by the park, but I believe it is paid parking, FYI. It takes but ten minutes to walk the shoreline trail and back, but it's a wonderful stroll on a lovely day, and the area is so picturesque, it's like out of a postcard. It was an absolute beautiful day and the falls natural beauty was stunning! The park is very well maintained and clean! Highly recommend a walk and visit to,this park! We did not walk to lookout point over the river, but I, sure the view would be awesome. There is also a path to Goat Island offering additional excellent views of the falls!

In the past I've only come into this state park to go to Fort Niagara. That itself is well worth…read morethe visit. This last visit was to attend a benefit play for funding of the restoration of the Niagara Post Theater, another place to visit within the park. While there for the play I wandered around the park a bit. Did you know that they have atleast 18 soccer fields? Not sure why so many but I know one is on the location of an old firing range used by the military years ago, mixing a bit of recreation with history. There's also a beautiful open section of Lake Ontario shoreline to admire. Look across and you'll see the skyline of Toronto. Oh how I miss Toronto! I saw people both fishing and swimming along the shore. There's a large picnic area with both open tables, grills, and pavilions. Love the smells of food coming from picnic areas! I'm going to need another visit to explore the rest of the park. 2021-131

The actual Fort is located inside Fort Niagara State Park, which can be a bit confusing for those…read morenot familiar. The park has plenty of space for soccer, running, fishing, boating, swimming (fresh water or the pool in the park), playgrounds, shelters, kayaking, etc. The Fort itself contains historical representations of the original structures with staff available to educate how life was under the various countries that operated the place being England, France, and the United States. There have been some serious renovations in the past few years too. You enter and exit through the gift shop of course :) Fun spot for a day trip, with Youngstown and Lewiston being close on the US side and Niagara On The Lake and Niagara Falls Canada being just as close.

It's just a stone's throw from the Visitor's Center. After your long walk around the historic…read moregrounds of Old Fort Niagara, you can walk past your car and out of the parking lot, and you're almost there when you see the very short fence surrounding the solemn cemetery. Even a slow walk of about 4mins and you will be at the cemetery entrance. Many of the grave markers are unreadable, while others still can be read. It's obvious this solemn area hasn't been cared for well in the past, BUT also remember that this area gets a lot of extreme rain, ice and snow. Please keep your pets on leash BUT out of the area. Too many dog walkers in the state park use the park's grounds as a bathroom and I would recommend pets be kept outside the cemetery. It's not the pet's responsibility BUT the owners' job to clean up, and not just clean then throw your poop bag in a "hidden spot" as many do. Please keep your walks and visit respectful. This isn't a spot for parties or talking loud. Respect their Fight, Battles and Sacrifices please. Thank you for helping to keep the cemetery clean, quiet and to remain a place of Love, Sacrifice, Honor and - most of all - of Respect and Remembrance.

We spent most of the time in this area during our visit. You drive past many lush vineyards on the way here where you can pick up a lovely bottle of wine. There is also a great area for kids to play, beautiful flowers and fountains. Great stop for a picnic, to people watch, sit and read a book, or relax and enjoy your surroundings.

This marker is at the intersection of Lockport Road and Route 18, not far from Fort Niagara State…read morePark. It points out some Colonial Era history. The marker reads, "British forces under Brig. Gen John Prideaux and Sir William Johnson landed at mouth of 4 Mile Creek, July 6, 1759. Besieged Fort Niagara." It was erected by Town of Porter Historical Society. The July 1759 assault of Fort Niagara is regarded as a watershed moment in Great Lakes history. Over the course of 19 days, British forces besieged the French-held Fort Niagara. The fort oversaw a crucial canal that connected French colonies along the St. Lawrence River to Detroit, the upper Great Lakes, the Ohio Valley, and Louisiana. On July 25, the French surrender the fort and the British hold Fort Niagara for the next four decades, handing it over to the Americans in 1796. Nelson Park acts more as a parkING destination rather than a park to visit. Conveniently located at…read morethe start of the Waterfront Trail (and the Niagara River Recreation Trail). You can utilize this park for their parking lot, lovely gazebo or waterfront view. To see more of the Lake or the lovely and quaint neighborhoods, start at Nelson Park and walk through the residential streets around (Ricardo, Queen and Niagara Blvd.) OR, if you're looking for a more active afternoon, start at Nelson Park and head directly across the street to the Niagara River Recreation Trail. This trail leads all the way to Fort Erie but passes some very distinguishable sites including Fort George (literally a five minute walk from Nelson Park), the Niagara Botanical Gardens, Niagara Falls and lots of wineries and a handful art shops along the way; plus it runs parallel to Niagara River for most of the duration. Nelson Park is definitely well-kept, like all the parks I encountered during my start at NOTL, but it's TINY, so more of a pass through than a destination.
