Very clean facility, very friendly staff and easy check in. The only issue I had was the highway noisier towards the back of the park.

Scorching sun but only a ten minute boat ride to the island where hundereds of boats were anchored. We anchored the boat 10 feet from the edge of the island and floated on rafts in the hip deep clear water. The edge is rocky so dive boots highly recommended. The current was strong and other nearby boats merged into one another so you must stay alert or get squashed. No aquatic life observed. Walked around the island and noticed the garbage cans were overflowing, so not really sure who manages the island. A few picnic tables and public bathrooms deeper into the island. Small wildlife can be seen in the heavy brush. Fun time but bring sunscreen, water and snacks.

We reserved a site with water access. Our site easily fit two large tents, and the overall atmosphere was peaceful and quiet. The bathrooms were as clean as a campground bathroom can be, but the shower water pressure could definitely use some improvement. There's also a small store right at the entrance, which was handy for grabbing snacks or ice. Our only real issue was with the check-in process. We arrived after sunset and, despite waiting twice, there was no one in the front office. Since we'd already paid online, we decided to head to our site and set up. The next morning, we tried again, but still no one was around. Eventually, we flagged down a staff member who was not very welcoming and came off as rude when we asked to check in. Having someone available at the front office, especially after dark, would make the experience smoother for guests.

The prices are pretty reasonable, about $50 a site for water and electric with a firepit and table at each site. The view is beautiful and we almost always see dolphins and manatees swim by. We usually book our site a year in advance but they recently changed the policy that non-residents can only book 6 months out so we will probably have a little more trouble getting a site. There is not a lot of shade so it can pretty hot and the mosquitos and noseeuns can be very intense even during the day. I ran my thermocells almost non stop this trip. But the view makes it worth it. And no visit to longpoint is complete without a stop at the store at the entrance to get the super delicious fish dip. It's a little pricey but yummy!

You could drive for 30 minutes and still not see everything! We stopped by on a weekday and the park was pretty and relaxing. Not too many people on the couple of trails we did. The observation tower is closed but they still have a nice boardwalk up to that area that makes for a great walk! It's pretty highly elevated for Florida - kind of impressive in person! Entry is $6 per car, and the lady provided a map and recommended her favorite trail. We checked that trail out as well (the white trail), but the height of the observation tower trail was really the star! We decided to drive around after doing both trails, and we saw their campgrounds. So surprising at how busy this place was! It seemed there was hardly an empty spot! Must be a happening place to camp! We'd definitely return for more adventures, as this is a cool park!

There Is a dock where you can look over the water. I believe there is also a hiking trail. Here you may see some wildlife such as the agressive racoon, the timid squirrel, noisy armadillo, lots of birds chirping away, if you're lucky you might get to see a venomous snake however you're most likely to see black racers and corn snakes. Now you might think the agressive racoon is cute and cuddly animal but don't you dare try to pet him cuddle him or feed him. As a matter of fact the raccoons will show up your campsite during daylight hours but don't be fooled, this is a reconnaissance mission. Once everyone goes to bed, they come back. They revisit the sites that had the best goodies. They will open your coolers and go through your trash.

This is my 3rd year running JW Cornette's race which is hosted by race director Christian Stewart…read more The race is small and maxes out at 100 people. There are three distances: 18 miles, 50k (31 miles), and 50 miles. The course runs along sections of the Lake to Ocean trail following the orange blazes on single track trails that are typically wet this time of year. However, a sever drought which precipitated the Everglades fires left most of the trails on dry conditions. The race is basically a charity that donates money for musical instruments in a school in Argentina. The race is well supported with excellent aid stations. It's a very good race if you are trying to prepare for Keys 100 or the Lake 2 Ocean race in May and June respectively, as temperatures are usually hot for this race. The single track trail meanders through wonderful everglades area and is home to many wild animals including snake and alligator. All year round there is recreational hunting and fishing. There is a youth camp but you'll have to have children to overnight. Otherwise, camping is permitted in many locations as well. If you love trail races and don't mind getting dirty this is a great one.
