The I-10 Twin Span Bridge is two three-lane bridges that carry Interstate 10 across Lake Pontchartrain between New Orleans and Slidell. 5.4 miles long and 60 feet wide with 30 foot clearance across most of the bridge and 80 foot clearance at the bascule section. The bridge was opened in 2009 with one of the bridges and then the other in 2010 with the completion of all work done in 2011. I crossed this bridge three times - once each coming and going and then the third time was just going. I took US 90 the other time and that review is coming soon. It is smooth and easy and very, very straight. As such, the speed can be a little intense. New Orleans is a big city and they not only drive fast here, they lane jockey. Crazy! The luxury van was very spacious and comfortable, he gave us a detailed run down of what the day included, provided bottled water throughout the entire duration, took us on a more scenic exciting drive to the plantation/swamp and he also told us a lot of information about New Orleans culture, history, wildlife, and customs. It was amazing how well he knew his hometown. We were very impressed! He really made us feel welcomed, and I hope to do another tour with his company if we're ever in the area again. The boats here are covered so getting beat down by the sun is not too much of an issue. Like I said it was raining when we went so the covered top protected us from getting drenched as well. We saw some gators almost immediately and that was pretty cool. They are almost tame out here and come to the boat when called to get a treat. We also enjoyed seeing lots of egrets and various other birds, a few racoons and lots of spiders and dragonflies. Our tour guide was very knowable and made a few corny jokes that the tourists and kids loved. We learned a lot about the ecosystem of the area. The tour lasted about 2 hours and was a great way to spend an afternoon. I highly recommend this tour! Tip-sit in the middle if possible. That's the best view and if you're at the very front or very back you'll get swamp water on you for sure.
