My mother had a parathyroid removal surgery and the entire process was excellent. I'm sorry to read that some in the past had a negative experience, but I'd like to think there was a staff turnover. Things to know: - the parking garage opens at 530AM so if you're earlier than that, just hang tight! Tickets are validated at the front desk with a bar code you scan at the exit (there's also an attendant there to assist if you can't reach). - the office opens at 545AM sharp. - the lobby is clean with lots of natural light, comfortable seating, and fresh coffee and tea. Water dispenser for cold and hot water. - staff are wonderfully friendly, attentive, and available for questions. - there's a large TV in the lobby so you can track you person's progress in real time. - the pre-op was smooth and friendly, professional and confidence building (surgery is scary!). All the nurses and the anesthesiologist were upbeat, patient with questions, and explained all things to expect. The surgeon, who you know is busy, never once made us feel like he was rushed and patiently answered our questions about the procedure and after care expectations. - post-op was extremely thorough, and there was special attention to ensuring we understood everything expected. - if you have time to spend, there's a Mel's Diner and iHop nearby... also a nice airy sports bar that opens at 11am just around the corner. I am extremely frustrated and disappointed with my recent experiences with Sutter Health and the way my surgeries have been handled. Two weeks ago, I wrote a review about receiving incorrect information from a pre-op nurse over the phone. Based on that information, I took a medication the morning of my scheduled surgery. As a result, the surgery center canceled my procedure just minutes before they were about to place an IV in my hand. I had to reschedule the surgery for a later date. At the same time, I already had a second surgery--a spinal procedure--scheduled for a Thursday. As I was leaving my home to go to the surgery center, I received a call informing me that the anesthesiologist would not perform the surgery at the center and that it needed to be done in a hospital in case complications occurred. Once again, I was left with no choice but to reschedule. I tried to roll with the punches and moved the first surgery to an earlier date. I was expecting to finally have that surgery next Tuesday. Then, once again, I received a call from a pre-op nurse informing me that the anesthesiologist now wanted additional testing, including an echocardiogram, before proceeding. Of course, I need a referral from my primary care physician, and getting an appointment and completing the test before the scheduled surgery date is practically impossible. So, once again, my surgery is being delayed. My spinal surgery is scheduled for next month, but at this point, I have very little confidence that it will actually happen as scheduled--even though it will now be performed in a hospital. What is most frustrating is that these surgeries were presented to the surgery center well in advance. It is extremely difficult to understand why the anesthesia team is apparently reviewing cases so late in the process, sometimes only shortly before the scheduled procedure. If additional testing or a hospital setting is required, why isn't that determined weeks in advance? Patients should not have to rearrange their lives, prepare for surgery, fast, make transportation arrangements, deal with the stress and anxiety of surgery, and then find out at the last minute that the procedure cannot go forward. Surgery is stressful enough without repeatedly being given conflicting information and having procedures canceled or delayed at the last minute. I understand that patient safety must come first, and I absolutely support appropriate medical precautions. However, better communication, earlier case review, and better coordination between the surgical team, anesthesiologists, pre-op nurses, and patients should be basic expectations. I have been with Sutter Health for years, and most of my medical records and history are already within their system. Unfortunately, these experiences over the past several months have seriously damaged my confidence in the organization. The University of California system is offering Sutter Health as one of the options during upcoming open enrollment. Based on my recent experiences, it is very unlikely that I will choose Sutter, and I certainly cannot recommend the plan to my colleagues. At this point, I am seriously considering requesting copies of all my medical records before the end of the year and moving my care elsewhere. Perhaps my new health plan will provide the level of communication, coordination, and patient care that I expected from Sutter but have not experienced over the past few months. Patients deserve better than last-minute surprises when it comes to something as important and stressful as surgery. read more

He went in for his procedure and they contacted me when he would be done. I picked him up when they told me to. I drove up to the fifth floor and called. This place is a joke, first, they do not share data with Sutter regardless of the name of the center. I would NOT recommend having your procedure done here. If ever there is a time to pay attention to the details, it's when having surgery done! My surgeon & anesthesiologists were great, the rest not so much. I was pretty much rushed out the door post-op. A Friday afternoon, right before a holiday weekend, I awoke from surgery in lots of pain (agony). I was given some additional pain medication & then after no more than 10mins., asked to put my clothes on as my ride was on the way & possibly already there. I was still in pain & just getting my senses back, otherwise I would have spoken up & told the PACU nurse I was not going anywhere just yet. Later that evening I showered & discovered electrodes still on my lateral side & back. They were in such a rush to get my out the door, they didn't bother to check for nor remove equipment left in place. ASK your surgeon for another facility!! read more

I've had a few procedures performed at the Fort Sutter surgery center. I had a bit of a frustrating experience last time I was in so I decided to speak with the nursing manager Kim. She was so caring, friendly, personable, and understanding. I immediately felt at peace. Parking is generally paid only; however the surgery center does validate. They ask you park on the higher floors to make it easier to transport you to your vehicle after your procedure. My nurses were all rock stars. They were so caring, friendly, knowledgable, personable, and understanding. Heather, Irene, Kim, Laurie, Ursula were all so great. They truly epitomized the caring part of nursing. My physician Dr. Alberto Panero of Sac Regenerative Orthopedics was just as amazing. He coached me through the procedure and was in communication with me throughout the procedure as I had conscious sedation since it was a spine procedure. Greg the radiologist was just as friendly and helpful. He also helped coach me when needed. He ensured I was comfortable beforehand and was so personable. The facility is clean and well maintained. Everyone from the receptionists to the nursing staff is so kind and everyone works so well together. As much as I hope this was my final spine procedure, if it's not I'd be completely comfortable coming here again. Here's a small pro tip if you're paying cash as I did since my procedure is not covered by any insurance. I was quoted a price in December when I booked my appointment and the price went up considerably due to their new rates at the beginning of the year. Parking is easy, the facilities are immaculate and the staff are experienced, happy and super-caring. I had a routine (screening colonoscopy) performed at Fort Sutter earlier today (10 years ago I had one done at UC Davis Medical Center). What an improvement! The front office/waiting area is very clean and the intake staff are very efficient. From the time that I was taken back into the surgery area by Hunni until I was finished and taken (via wheelchair) to my waiting ride, the entire staff were courteous and professional. I was sent to Fort Sutter Surgery Center because my insurance wouldn't cover my local clinic's surgery center. This was for a routine procedure that is recommended for those of us of a certain age to look for signs of a treatable cancer if caught early. The Fort Sutter Surgery Center gives you an appointment date but not an appointment time (my local center, Woodland Clinic in Woodland had given me a date and time). My appointment date was two months out because there weren't any appointment dates sooner. One then has to call them three days before the procedure to find out the time. When I did that I was given a time of 7:30 a.m. Great for the patient of this procedure but not great for the driver having to drive in rush hour traffic from Davis to mid-town Sacramento on congested freeways and with the sun shining in his eyes due to the daylight savings time change. I was able to get the only other available appointment time of 1 p.m. My procedure only lasted about 30 minutes but because they were backed up in the afternoon I had to wait on the gurney about 1 1/2 hours before the doctor came to speak to me and then move me to the operating room for the procedure. Regarding anesthesia, I asked to not feel anything and the doctor and the anesthesiologist both assured me that I wouldn't, and if I did, to not be silent about it, to let them know. Well, I did wake up during and was very uncomfortable and made it known. Response was "we're almost done" so I continued to feel the tail end of the procedure (pun intended) But overall, I felt well cared for and everything was explained carefully by all staff members. It was fun to be wheeled out to my husband's car when I was released. For the designated drivers; the facility does offer free wifi and has free coffee and a water dispenser. There were plenty of comfortable chairs in the waiting room with two television screens on different stations. There is a side waiting room for those preferring more quiet (and may have had tables for those wishing to use their laptops) Glad it's all over and if in the future I again can't go to my local surgery center I would feel comfortable returning to Fort Sutter Surgery Center. read more

This place was excellent. They kept me safe from COVID-19 by only allowing patients in the waiting room and having masks required and sanitizer for use. Most of the nurses were exceptional and friendly and happy to do their job. The only reason I am giving four stars instead of five is the experience I had with the prep-nurse, a Filipino man in his 30's. He was brash and lazy. He asked me if I wanted the intravenous needle in my hand or arm and I told him the arm was less painful. He took a quick look and then used my hand anyway. I have had lots of blood taken from my arm in the last couple years and they always find my vein. It hurt when he inserted it and then he proceeded to push down hard on the needle that was sideways in my vein. It was painful. Also, when I first got into the prep-room, he told me to take all my clothes off and put the gown on. I asked him if I should leave my undergarments on since the surgery was on my ear, but he repeated several times, to take them all off. I was a bit surprised because in the other rooms, I could hear the female nurses telling the ladies to leave them on. I did not like his attitude from start to finish. But the Surgery Center, Doctors, Anesthesiologist (Amy) were all great. This is only the second surgery in my life and the last one was when I was five for my tonsils. They made this so much easier and pleasant that I would not hesitate to return, if I had to have surgery again. Thanks for making me comfortable and safe. read more

UNCONSENTED SURGERY AT FORT SUTTER! Back in August of 2022 Dr. Clutter performed a septoplasty (deviated septum) and turbinate reduction surgery. After the surgery I have had severe facial pain and have been from specialist to specialist trying to find the cause. I finally saw a top ENT at Stanford University at the end of October 2023 and he said I also had sinus surgery done as well after putting a scope up my nose, which Dr Clutter never said was going to be done because he said my sinuses looked fine. The Dr at Stanford believes it's possible that I had damage to my trigeminal nerve (which is most common from septoplasties and sinus surgery). Since then I have been trying to find the signed surgery consent to see what I agreed to. Sac Ent said they do not have one and that is was Sutter Medicals responsibility since the surgery took place at their facility (FORT SUTTER) and are my insurance provider. So I contacted Sutter and they do not have it saying it was Sac Ent responsibility. So I had a surgery with NO signed consent and a surgery I was not even aware was going to happen. If I consented to this surgery I could live with the surgery not going as planned. But I did not have any signed consent, just trying to get this story out there so it doesn't happen to another patient. Very frustrating and incredibly unethical. read more

Our toddler son who's 2.5 had dental surgery here. The nurse, Barbara, was great but both the pre op and pacu nurse seemed like they didn't want to be there. Maybe they were not from Fort sutter and travel nurses? They didn't seem to share the same heart as the other staff there. They were careless, didn't listen to our concerns, didn't care to bond with the child, and weren't attentive to detail. They were rushing through everything and really didn't care to take a moment and slow down to listen to our concerns. The pacu nurse seemed to be frustrated when I asked her if I can help and hold the pulse oximeter on my sons finger. Unless I misunderstood her physical response, she seemed to throw the oximeter at me out of annoyance. Also, she was carelessly tearing the wrapping from where his iv was and when I suggested that she use scissors multiple times she just kept doing what she was doing and was being rough with my son and even pushed his hand out her way a few times. Finally she got scissors. I was in shock honestly. My poor baby (or any other child, mine or not) was already helpless, scared, crying hard and she couldn't be a little more attentive to his needs. They made our experience much worse than it should have been as we were already emotional and anxious. read more

I had surgery this past June at Fort Sutter Surgery Center. I'll start with the positives - the medical staff was great. They were helpful and kind, and I felt I received good care from them. On to the negatives. The billing is a MESS. I have an insurance policy where my surgery co-pay is 20%, which I knew up front, obviously. They discussed with me in advance what procedure I was having done, and how much I would owe for that on the day of surgery. So far, so good. On the day of surgery, I again sat down with a billing person at the front desk, we discussed what surgery I was going to have, and I paid my 20% co-pay. Fast forward a month, when I received a bill from them with a nearly 50% upcharge! I called, figuring there must be some mistake. Nope, they just bait-and-switched, figuring it would be no big deal to upcharge the entire surgery by 50%! Maybe Blue Shield is known for paying more than other health insurers or something, so they just decided to bill more? I don't know, but I kept asking why the surgery, which went well and in which nothing out of the ordinary occurred, could possibly suddenly cost 50% more. First, they said it was the doctor's office's fault for sending over the wrong information. So I went to the surgeon's office and sat down with his billing person, and she showed me exactly what she sent to them (literally, the exact form). It was EXACTLY what Fort Sutter billing had discussed with me to begin with. (And let's not forget, I did also have discussions with two separate billing people at Fort Sutter prior to the surgery, and they both acknowledged the exact info the doctor's office had sent over - so there was NO miscommunication; I know this for a fact!) I called Fort Sutter billing to report that the doctor was not to blame for the 50% upcharge - he sent over the codes for exactly what he did in the OR. Then they said it was the insurance company's fault - which, being able to do basic arithmetic, I know is not the case. I pay 20% of the total bill - and the total bill went WAY up from what they quoted! At the end of the day, they really don't have an answer for why they suddenly decided to charge way, way more. But I still owe it, or they're going to send me to collections. There's something wrong with a business that runs this way. They make errors, then they make excuses, and then they expect their customers to be accountable for them. read more

I had an epidural yesterday at the Fort Sutter Surgery Center. The medical staff/nurses are pretty nice despite their thankless job. The secretaries/sign-in staff were unorganized and not very welcoming. They called me after I already checked in and was sitting there for a half hour to ask where I was..."Um, I'm right in front of you in the waiting room. We just spoke 30 minutes ago...." So I guess she forgot talking to me and that's why they were 45 minutes late with my appt. Boneheaded move by them...they asked me to come at a specific time and then have me wait and wait. I feel better thanks to the epidural, but the Fort Sutter Surgery Center could use a shake up on the staffing. read more

My surgery went well.  I had a good experience with the medical staff. However thier billing practices are aggressive. They want the money upfront without allowing time for the insurance to bill. They called me prior to the operation and told me how much I needed to pay. I paid 20% up front on the day of procedure and then a month and half later I got a bill for more money. As practitioner, I found thier billing practices to be pushy, aggressive and incompetent at times. Unfortunately this is the only place my doctor uses which means I am going to have to find another doctor if the problem continues and additional treatment is needed. read more

Rate a surgery center? Not that I frequent them, but I must say the advance paperwork makes for easy check in at Ft Sutter Surgery Center. The whiteboard shows each doc's progress--on-time, and other times in 15-min increments. The wait area is well planned with seating, workstation tables and plug-ins for laptops, free coffee and big screen TV. The post op staff are efficient and informative. Parking is enclosed multilevel and they validate, so no charge. Great experience if you need surgery. read more

My father had a small procedure today. I had my kid so I didn't want to stay at the facility. I came back when they told me to, 2 hours later. I asked the front desk for an update and she called back to the nurses and they said he was in recovery, and I would get called back shortly to take him home. 30 minutes later I check again, he hasn't even had his procedure yet, and no one notified me. Doctor was 2 hours behind, which wasn't the problem, however the communication in this place isn't good at all. So now I'll be waiting here with my son 2-3 hours longer. read more

BE CAREFUL OF THEIR BILLING! The surgery went great and the staff was good. This review is to inform insurance patients NOT to pay everything up front. We got a call a few days before my husband's surgery and we were told that our co-insurance amount would be $1160.00. She asked me to pay it right then. I asked, "What are my options?" and only then did she tell me that I could pay 1/3 the morning of the surgery and then 2 other payments over 90 days. I just got the insurance EOB and our portion is only $647.00. I have no idea how hard it would have been to get our $500 back. I was referred to the Sutter surgery center to have my gallbladder removed. When I arrived the morning of my surgery, checked in and was set up to prepare for the surgery, everybody was absolutely amazing.... except for the pre-op nurse, Cheryl. She was not kind at all and was going against my one request and not personable at all. She was very short mannered. When she asked the doctor if it was OK for this one item to remain with me, he said it was fine. But she did force the ring off my finger prior to talking to the surgeon, and it is my create cremation ring from when I miscarried. As for my surgeon Dr. Beneke, he was absolutely amazing and he would listen to my concerns and answer them with confidence. My recovery nurse was Jamie Libo and she was absolutely amazing, very attentive and personable. Doctor Lenz was my anesthesiologist and when she came into the room she heard my voice (sounds like a sore throat or going through puberty, and very airy) And thought that I was sick and I explained to her that it was damage from the endoscopy 3 months ago and she recommended an ENT specialist for me to go to which I really, really appreciate. I would definitely say, if you're ever nervous for a surgery or anything upcoming, you wouldn't have any reason to not be comfortable coming to the Sutter surgery center. read more

This place is the worst place to have anything done. If any mistakes are made beware there is nothing you can do. They are not in the medical boards jurisdiction and they're not responsible for the doctors. I was over medicated WITHOUT my consent. I was never told types of drugs I was going to be given it given the decision to not have them like the paperwork I received states they do. I have written requested my medical records only to have parts missing, told the nurse FORGOT to document what she should have and my records would be amended. Requested a second time 4 months later because I had still not received these amended records. When I received them there were things missing again that I had received the first time. What kind of record keeping is this for a surgery center?? BEWARE OF THIS PLACE. Dr Logan is the WORST gastroenterologist on the planet! read more

You are asked to come at a specific time and then you wait and wait. The people signing you in seem LAZY and inattentive, lots of chatting between them. If you dare to ask, you are told you will be called shortly. This is not acceptable. The entrance to the facility is hard to find and unclear. read more

The facility was exceptionally clean and tidy everywhere I went. The staff was very friendly, thorough in their explanations and very professional. I had a procedure done back in Dec 2014 at Sutter Fort Surgery Center and nurses and doctors were excellent. The actual care is outstanding. My experience with the front desk staff and billing department is another story though. The person who signed me in insisted I made a payment for 10% copay even though I explained to her we have a automated payment forwarding set up with Cigna through HSA account. She was quite rude and short with me and insisted I make the payment right then and there if I want to have the procedure done. I asked her if their billing department was going to let Cigna know that I paid the amount and she said yes. Little did I know. I made a mental note at that time to myself to check on the HSA account but as it often happens forgot and here are I am 6 months later trying to get the reimbursed because I paid twice for the same thing. I paid with my card in person and then Cigna paid the same amount out of HSA account when they processed the claim. When Cigna called Sutter Fort Billing on my behalf they were told that yes, indeed, there was a $194.00 credit on my account but some inept billing person zeroed the balance. The billing person was able to credit the account and I will be refunded. If I haven't started looking into it they would have just kept my money. Which they did for 5 months. I wonder how long it's going to take them to refund my HSA account. I should also add that getting hold off Sutter's Billing department is not an easy task. When I finally did get through the billing assistant was very short. read more
