I finally found a vet that cares about the animals and their parents. They offer excellent quality of care and they don't price gouge.

We are visiting Fort Wayne. Our dog had been sick for the past month, and we had to make the difficult decision to put her to sleep. My husband called FWPH to schedule this, nervous that we would be judged for our decision, but we were met with nothing but compassion from all the staff involved. They gave us complimentary paw and nose prints for tangible reminders of our beloved dog. We couldn't have asked for a better way to end that chapter of our lives, as difficult as it was. What a wonderful experience we had bringing our Wolfie cat to FW Pet Hospital. Our male cat had a urinary tract blockage. He was hospitalized so that they could give him IV medication as well as inserting a catheter in an effort to break up the stones. They monitored him carefully when it was determined that this strategy was not working, the doctor suggested surgery. We agreed and the surgery was successful. His care was fantastic and I was able to visit him as often as I wanted. When it came time to pay the bill, it was very reasonable. I started bringing my animals here because the previous veterinarian that I went to only cared about money and not my animals. I guarantee you these doctors and staff care about the animals. I cannot say there is a bad veterinarian or staff member in this place. Their prices are reasonable and they want to do whatever it takes to help the animals. I drive clear across town to come here. The only reason I give it a 4 star is due to the small parking lot. It is very tiny for such a busy and popular place. Also, in coming here you will have to wait. Other than that I would give them a five star. If you're a true animal person this is where you want to bring your animals to just realize you might have a weight but it is so worth it to have somebody that actually cares instead of looking at the $ sign. read more

We recently adopted a puppy. The rescue started her care at The Pet Hospital so we were going to just continue her care there. The first time I called to schedule her next round of vaccines, I asked a few questions regarding my new puppy. The lady said "oh I am more of a cat person but we can change your appointment to the vet and you can talk to them". I was simply asking for ideas on how to get my puppy to eat slower, stop itching, and sleep at night. Then I had to call again because I found worms in her stool. I had no opportunity to explain the full situation, the person just recommended going to the store and get a dewormer. My puppy had just had her heartworm pill and once I was finally able to ask if the dewormer would be an issue to take after she just got that, her whole story changed. I feel like she should have asked all the appropriate questions instead of just jumping to an assumption. She set me up for an appointment to see the vet instead of the tech to get my puppies next round of vaccines. During my vet appointment, she was great. She answered all of my questions and gave some helpful tips. That was the only positive interaction I ever had. A few days later they did call me with my puppies fecal results and unfortunately she had tested positive for a parasite. My husband and I were out of town and so my dad had to pick up the medications and get things started. On the voicemail they called my dog by the wrong name, and did not fully explain all the medications that I was going to be given. I was able to call and get some clarification but they never told me that they were also adding in a different heartworm pill to be given to my dog the following month. When my dad went to go pick up the medications he said the staff hardly greeted him and did not ask if he had any questions or offer any additional information to him. Just handed him a bag of medications and had him pay. I did send them an email because I was concerned about how itchy my puppy continues to be, which is something that I brought up during her appointment with the vet. The first vet told me it can just be from her growing, which made sense. 4 days after I sent the email I got a call from a different vet. He did ask a few questions, but told me that I never brought up about the itching before and so now this is a whole new concern. He told me that I should have started the other heartworm pill that they gave me at the time of picking up the medications for her parasite. No one had told me that and then he got very snippy saying that now we are weeks behind on something that could have already been treated. I took my puppy and yesterday for her final vaccine appointment and when I got there there were two dogs running around off leash. My dog is currently reactive and it is something we are working on but she is only 5 months old. I stood in between the doorways hoping that the person would realize that my dog was not comfortable in this situation and that they would put the dogs behind the counter. I had to ask if they could keep the dogs to the other side while I came in with my dog. My dog was still barking and I was trying to get her to calm down when the lady at the front desk said something to me. I did not hear what she said so I simply asked quote. How is your day? And quote. She looked at me and just said in a very rude tone" what are you here for?" I told her that I was here for an appointment and gave her my dog's name. She told me she would get me checked in. There was a gentleman who was mopping the floors and the mop was very scary to my dog. And instead of stopping or moving towards a different direction, he continued to come closer to my puppy and caused her to become more upset and scared. I asked for all of my dogs records when I checked out so I could switch her to a new vet, the lady said "great! I'll email those to you and then close out her account." The vet that I saw the first time and the tech were great but I had no other positive interactions from any of the front desk staff or those that answer phones. This review was also posted on Google where the business responded. Their response was just trying to gaslight me and mock me, while putting the blame back on me. And at the end left a very rude and sarcastic remark. read more

When I took my pet in as he was getting sicker I could tell the staff were very judgmental and it seemed like the vet was just wanted to get everything done quickly so he could leave after he told us the diagnosis. When it came time to put my pet down too the vet came in to talk to my family member and rushed through it to leave. The male receptionist who helped us though seemed to be more empathetic than the actual vet. Would not recommend!!! read more

My dog has a issue and is skin and bones. I still get birthday emails from them for my dogs. But since its been over 2 years since my dogs have been there they won't set a appointment for her. WOW REALLY? Can't even beleave it. read more

Took our pet chihuahua complaining of her being lethargic, stumbling, not eating. They did a blood test and saw nothing wrong. Gave her a shot for her upset stomach and sent us home with her. Next morning we took her to emergency and they said she was critical! Said she was dehydrated and low blood pressure. We lost her the next day. Fort Wayne Pet Hospital completely missed this. My mother and sister in law at different times brought their pets in with minor injuries. Both times this place recommended surgery. The cost would have been about a thousand dollars. They both chose to wait and both pets fully recovered on their own. read more

This place sucks! I have went to this vet 4 times and it gets worse each and every time I go. Today they have people waiting in their cars for close to an hour in 90 + degree heat with their pets, no shade, no access to water. And that is just how long it took for them to come get the dog for its appointment. read more

Always have had a great experience here. Vets and vet techs always go the extra mile to help and be friendly to me and my dog and I always feel welcome. Absolutely only negative is the wait time. Generally I expect to sit 10-15 minutes past our scheduled time to go back but I understand stuff happens but it can get quite squirmish out in the waiting room with all the dogs! read more

This is our vet for our dog, and they have always done a great job with checkups and vaccines. We have also used them for boarding, their prices are very fair and it makes me feel extra relaxed to know he is in house with some talented vets if anything goes wrong while we are out of town. I have never reviewed them before today, though. Today we had to put down our elderly cat, whom they had never treated before. They were extremely gentle and kind. They had me pay before the procedure so I could leave right afterwards, as soon as I felt able. The vet was very calming and the whole process was very peaceful. I was just dreading it, but I truly don't think there can be a vet service out there that does any better than Fort Wayne Pet Hospital. read more

What's the point of making an appointment if you have to wait an hour just to be seen. If it was just once, then I might expect an emergency or something delayed my puppy being seen, but this is the second time we waited over an hour just to get a shot. We will be looking for another vet. Two stars (instead of one) because the nurse was nice. read more

This is a fantastic vet office. I take all my pets here. Their costs are extremely reasonable, which is great if you have a lot of pets like me! They also have a K Laser machines to provide laser therapy for pets with pain or that has been injured. It speeds healing and relieves pain. My lab does so well with her treatments to help with her arthritis. Its a medication alternative and her improvement is obvious! I dont believe any other vet office in fort wayne offers this therapy! read more

Great. Great vets, great service, sweet techs, clean facility, newly remodeled. I presently have five rescued fur babies, and they are absolutely my children. I have always had rescues and I am the crazy animal lover in my friends' and families' lives. (Don't buy that, they test on animals...) So I take animal care very seriously. I have been going to this family owned vet since the late 90's early 2000's in the old building when I was a struggling college student. They have payment plans when emergencies arise. They have great prices. They don't charge you for add ons you don't need. They don't make you feel bad and judged. They are caring, supportive, and build up a relationship with you and your pets like a family doctor would. I can not recommend them enough. Veterinary science is a science, you practice it, it's not foolproof, and I know not everyone has a perfect visit every time. But they have always done their best, they are kind, they are affordable, and they truly care for the animals they treat. read more

I went for my first visit with my 4mo old Malamute. The waiting room was a bit filled with hair, but didn't smell or anything. They also have beautiful art! When we were taken back, the nurse (or assistant, not sure) was super kind and gave my puppy treats quite often. Both doors were closed so he could roam around. They didn't charge anything extra for shots (exam fee or anything) and were very understanding with my dog being afraid to be restrained. We had the Vet with a last name of Nahrwold and he was super kind and understanding of my pup having fear-based aggression. I was extremely satisfied with the visit and am looking forward to seeing if his remedies will work! All the staff was great and we didn't have to wait long, I even arrived quite early. read more

I would definitely recommend this place for people that don't have a ton of money in case their cats or dogs get sick they have payment plans so you can pay monthly they are so nice and kind they are so helpful and they remodeled recently it's very nice inside my cat was sick and I was a wreck and they helped calm me down and they gave me information on what they could do to help my cat get better and then when I left her there for them to take care of her they called me periodically every couple days to let me know how she's doing and what they're doing to help her until she came home I would absolutely come back read more

I have been taking my little Dog here for 8 years. I would take her no where else. My dog is afraid of Vets and they leave the room door open and walk in and out to try and get her calmed down she still shakes but, they take care of her needs. I would not take my dog any where else. read more

I've been a customer of Fort Wayne Pet Hospital and a fan of Dr. Marcus for more than 10 years. Years ago 2 of my dogs were seen a few times by Dr. Lynn (he may be retired by now) but I actually started to request Dr. Marcus - after one of my boxers lost her hearing, her personality changed and Dr. Lynn just wasn't the best match where things seemed to go smooth between her and Dr. Marcus. He's now taken care of 4 of my rescue boxers and has been knowledgeable and compassionate in recommending treatment. I like that his recommendations start with realistic and the least invasive approach for all stages of life. I've felt the cost of a couple of minor surgeries, neutering my youngest male, routine checkups, immunizations, xrays and euthanizations have all been competitively priced. I don't feel that they ever recommended more treatments or medications than what was appropriate and Dr. Marcus has spent time explaining some issues to me that didn't actually require any treatment. My dogs were also seen by Dr. Seth for some routine care....I had no issues with him, although I had less interaction with him overall. I noticed some negative reviews about keeping appts and long wait times....I am more understanding about that now after having one or two emergencies of my own and the vet telling me that they would fit me in that day.....way better than dealing with an emergency vet or waiting until the next day....in fact Dr. Marcus stayed well past closing time once for a very sick dog of mine....definitely earned my loyalty. It's been a while but I when I had some health stuff of my own, I brought my dogs in for baths....this went well for one but not so much for the other dog as she's a bit nervous about bath time and being handled in general especially by anyone that isn't me. I also kenneled my dogs a few times at Fort Wayne Pet Hospital. It went ok and I would use them again if I had to....after a bad experience at a different kennel, I do not kennel my dogs anymore if I can avoid it. The recently renovated facility is larger, brighter, roomier, cleaner and more modern feeling. It is easier to navigate the waiting room and get to the scale. There is a bit more parking available in the back. But there have been some operational changes that frustrate me. I've noticed it is almost impossible to get through to someone over the phone. This has been a pattern the last several appts. and in fairness I mentioned it to the person who did finally answer the phone today. I understand they're busy and may find it easier to return calls at their convenience but that isn't convenient for me as I am usually at work during their business hours and would not necessarily be able to answer my phone when they call back. It would be better to offer a choice to stay on hold or to leave a message. The check-in workflow could be smoother. There is often a backup at the front entrance of people and animals who are waiting to get checked in or trying to leave. We've often had to wait between the 2 sets of doors with other people and animals trying to get in and out. My boxers are larger dogs who are generally curious, excitable and friendly. My nervous older female tends to make growly, howly and snorty noises when she's unsure (it's comical to me but this sometimes freaks other people out) and my young male is a little too curious about smaller animals and would just love to get wild with another young dog. I just don't think it's a good idea to be in such close proximity to the other animals gathered at the check in area. Once we get past the entrance, I try to find a spot off to the side to wait which is possible now with a larger waiting area. read more

I had been going to this practice for about two years. I have two dogs. During that time I was satisfied, they diagnosed my poodle with diabetes and helped me get her blood glucose and insulin dialed in quickly. There was a couple of times that they over charged me and had to go back inside to get the bill corrected. Dr. Nahrwold was the friendliest and took the time to explain things to me. Dr. Marcus Martin was arrogant and hesitant to give information until I had my poodle in for a teeth cleaning. Dr. Marcus had told me that her back tooth on the right was cracked and would probably be pulled. I went ahead and did the procedure she came out of it, but discovered that they pulled her tooth on the other side of her mouth. When I came back in for a check up I asked him why that tooth was pulled and he said "I don't know" no further explanation, no apology or anything. He did finally take more of an interest in her heart murmur and got a little more friendly after their mistake, but gave her pills to rule something out instead really knowing what it was and told me that there no side effects. When I got the medicine home I looked it up on the internet and it had a list of side effects including lethargy and ataxia! So I was out that money too, and saved my dog i'd say. Needless to say that is the last time I went to see them. I liked their prices and if it is just getting shots or blood test I would say ok, but watch your bill. Anything else I don't think it is a good choice. read more

I've had 2 visits their, one each with my older dogs. a 106 lb full blooded German Shepherd and a 60lb rescue female mutt. one visit each with the 2 Docs, both men seemed through in their evaluations of my pets health issues. They handled the animals very well even though my farm dogs are not accustomed to the confines of a vets office. After the exam each took adequate time to explain my pets issues.The benefit's and expectation of different treatments and cost conscience mindset for the pet owner. I don't know about you, but my dog is my life. That being said I expect him to get the best care possible. I was so disappointed with the treatment, or lack there of that my fur baby received. When we were finally called back into the room they would not shut the door to the back room so that he could roam free and settle down. He had to be on his leash the whole visit. Not to mention the nurse who was in there did not once acknowledge my dog. I recently moved to Indiana so I brought in all his past records from his other vet so I could show them what vaccines he needed updated. Come to find out he only got a "booster" which only covered his parvo and distemper vacations. When the vet finally came in I didn't even know that's who he was because not once did he introduce himself. And when I asked him to look into something on my dogs bottom lip his response was "I don't see anything, you will have to hold him down and show me." They do have great prices, but they service and treatment is horrible. If you love your animal please don't be cheap and save your money and time. I now take my dog to DuPont vet clinic and they are awesome. read more

I read the first review and just wanted to say that yes the building they were in was old, but they have just finished A beautiful expansion to their building, if that's the most important thing to you. But these veterinarians are absolutely wonderful, have been compassionate with us when we were losing one of our pets, and taking great care of our other dog. Everyone I have seen who comes to this vet clinic has been more than satisfied, their prices are exceptionally fair and their concern for our pets has been awesome. After many years of pet ownership we are very grateful for such a wonderful place to bring our pets for their care. In my opinion they are busy because they are so good! read more
