I had a new driveway and walkway installed about a month ago by Fortis Concrete. Joe Lerario came out to give me the estimate and some ideas for how I could get the look we wanted. He was extremely professional, thorough, and did not push to close me and get a deposit. Their pricing was competitive with two other bids I had from other contractors, but the overall impression I had of the company was the reason I decided to give them the work. When we finally committed to have the work done, the girls in the office, Anna and Barb did their best to accommodate the scheduling on our terms because of upcoming parties we were having at our house. They gave me realistic expectations about the entire process and the disclaimer about the weather changing things from day to day. In the end it all worked out as planned! Grateful for that! The workers had my old driveway and walkway torn out, framed and ready for inspection in less than an half of a day and I was very impressed with how neat they were and considerate of my landscaping and grass surrounding the worksite. When they poured the concrete, again they were better than expected! Several days later they came back to remove the forms and talk about what to expect. I even used Fortis to seal the concrete shortly after and it looks fantastic! I would definitely recommend Fortis for any concrete work. I'm building a new house and my original concrete contractor who was suppose to do our concrete work unfortunately couldn't do it in the time we needed him to. At that point we had to look on and were given the name of Fortis from a friend who had used them. They were very friendly and easy to set up an appointment with. They sent out an estimator right away, his name was Marcello. Marcello was very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about his product. We felt very comfortable with him that we signed at the time of the appointment. From that point on the process had been smooth sailing. What a disappointment. Had our stamped concrete patio done a few years ago. We were told that we need to clean and reseal every couple years and to give them a call to take care of. Fast forward to this March. I called customer service to schedule the cleaning and I was told that Fortis doesn't do that and 'just do it yourself.' Placed a call to one of the owners, Andro. He said I text him pictures of the patio and he would give us a quote. I did that within five minutes of the call. Never got a quote. Sent another text a few days later. Never got a quote. Sent it again a week or so after that and again was ignored. My husband finally called the office and shocker, they said they would send someone to give us an estimate (apparently they give people all different kinds of information). We made the appointment. I was called the following day and asked if they could change our appointment time. Fine. Appointment was for this past Thursday at 8:30. I waited. 9:00...., 9:30...... finally, I call the office and they act shocked that I was questioning where they were. She said that they had it in their notes that they could come any time that day and they would leave the quote in the door. UM, then why give me an appointment time? Fine. I waited that whole day. Nothing. I was home the ENTIRE day. Again, on Friday, I call the office and the girl acts like she had no clue what I was talking about. She said she would look into it and call me back. Calls back and 'claims' Andro came by on Thursday and was just going to email the quote to us. (Again, new information). She proceeds to ask for an email (if you didn't have it, how did he plan on emailing our quote? Oh yea, that's because NO ONE EVER CAME HERE THE PREVIOUS DAY). She said we would receive an email by the end of the day. Think we ever got an email? A call? An apology? Anything??????? Nope. If you want to feel like your time isn't important, go ahead do business with these guys. I refuse to give any kind of good review to a company that thinks customer service is a complete joke. In this day and age of social media, you would think companies would treat customers better than Fortis does. read more

Unbelievably horrible company. I do not understand where any of the positive reviews on this company are coming from. I have never had a worse experience with any other business. They damage your property and then refuse to acknowledge their wrong-doing, fix, or pay for the damages, leaving people in worse financial conditions than was even thought possible when just wanting to redo a driveway. The owner is just taking in money and living a great lifestyle, while the poor people he swindles are distraught with the results of Fortis' work. We are so happy with our driveway. It's beautiful! I've had neighbors and also strangers just driving by the house and say how stunning it is. We went with the concrete edging and asphalt interior. Makes our circle drive look stately and I think my house looks bigger than the 2,800 sf it is. We took lots of quotes. Some were half what we paid and some were twice more. The deciding factor came down to quality and how comfortable we felt with the process. Barbara was wonderful. Came out multiple times to walk me through the changes we were making, answer my stupid questions without making me feel stupid. Also provided me with a list of references. No one else did that. Actually most stopped returning my calls when I asked for references. The guys were quick, on time, polite and cleaned everything up perfectly. I highly recommend Fortis and Barbara in particular. Had FORTIS do a driveway and stamped patio for us. We used them based on a family members recommendation as well as their competitive pricing. I am very happy with the outcome. Mike came out for the estimate and measuring. He took his time and answered all my questions. I then spoke with Joe (Forman/ owner) on several occasions. He went out of his way to walk me thru step by step the entire process to my satisfaction. The office staff was very helpful as well. Pouring concrete is not a quick and easy process. It took about 1 week for the entire job to be completed. This was due to some rain. These projects are very weather dependent. My town also requires a pre-pour inspection (which adds to the project time). Day 1- excavation and form construction Day 3- inspection Day 4-5 rain / Sunday Day 6- concrete poured Day 7-8 finishing touches on the patio Its been 1 month and we are very happy with the outcome. We have received many compliments on the patio. My experience with Fortis was a positive one. They were very upfront and easy to work with. I have had the pleasure of working with this company since March 2017. Although they are not perfect, they do strive to rectify all situations that come up. I know from firsthand experience their willingness to try to "make it right" to the VERY BEST of their ability. Many of the reviews I have read here are situations that have either been rectified or are in the process of being rectified and it pains me to see a good company's name been drug through the mud because people are impatient or did not update their horrible reviews. We saw Fortis doing concrete work at other locations in our neighborhood. After getting estimates from other companies to replace our walkway and enlarge our patio we decided they offered a good price and seemed to be active in our area. We are very happy with the work they have done, the concrete patio is great. They were very timely and non-interruptive in the work. There was some noise (to be expected) but it was non interruptive, as I work from home. The design was great as well, rather then going with a square slab the recommended a teardrop shape and it is fantastic. They removed what they needed to, hauled it away and poured the new slab in less than 2 days. We couldn't be happier and would gladly recommend them to our neighbors. read more

I am wondering why every review out there for these guys is "not recommended". Eight of the ten are one star reviews. I had this company pour a patio for me some years ago and they did not complete the work in the manner we discussed. When I had the audacity to be unhappy with their crappy product and suggested I was not going to pay until they fixed it, one of the owners actually stood in my driveway and said "I will kill you and bury you in the trees" (in the back of my lot)....lol. My wife was a little upset, but I was more amused by this idiot than anything else. HORRIBLE COMPANY. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE. I am very disappointed with this company. After they finished pouring my driveway, I noticed fresh cracks and holes in it, I tried to call Marecello or Joe but with they do not answer my calls and do not respond to any of my messages. When I called the main office I was promised that they will call me, but no luck. I ended up hiring another company to fix their mistakes and paid hundreds!!!!! I do not recommend them to anybody, they are only nice to you until they get their payment, after that they act like they never met you before... forget about the warranty too!!!! read more

Fortis poured a new garage floor and driveway which failed terribly after installation. The large floor was sloped backwards and every time it rains the garage gets wet. They tried to correct it by building a dam of sorts which looks horrible and still didnt solve the problem. After many calls and broken promises to correct the situation they have FAILED to reply and back up their work. I am stuck with a flooding and poorly constructed garage floor and driveway. My concrete driveway is a year old and is spalling in places; some 3 to 4 inches wide. A structural engineer told me that they used excess air and worked the concrete too much when finishing it. read more

We had our 40 year old concrete driveway and stoop replaced by Fortis. They took the time to come out and review the plan the week before the job, then on a Wednesday they removed the old driveway, Thursday the inspector came, and Friday morning they poured the new one. Fast and very efficient, and friendly. All the workers were nice. The price was fair too. The only thing that frustrated me was that the flat curb was not included in the price we were originally quoted so we had to pay extra. The other nice thing they did was that they didn't want any money from us until they finished the job. That right there tells us that they are a successful business and manage their cash flow properly. read more

I hired this company because they did a lot of work in the neighborhood last year including a police officer's house, and I needed a concrete driveway and pavers walkway. They worked fast and put an effort to make us happy. The crew was very nice and did put a lot of effort in their work. The planning for the pave way was a bit off with the centering but they showed up within a couple days, and made sure it's done perfectly where we wanted it. Two summers ago you laid a new concrete patio for us. Problems were noted the day after the pour. It took over 7 months for you guys to finally come out to attempt to fix the problem. Your solution.....to just pour more concrete over it. That concrete never did settle and change colors like it is supposed to. And now we are seeing the effects of the crappy attempt to fix our original problem. The concrete that you poured is bubbled and just cracking off. All you have to do is touch it ever so lightly and it is crumbling. Needless to say, we are VERY unhappy with your work, and customer service! We WILL be telling ALL of our neighbors, friends, family and internet reviews. I do not recommend this company. We hired them to do our driveway and the job was done poorly. The crew was working fine but their "inspector" was supposed to come back in few days after the concrete was poured to check on the job but we have not seen him at all. All the dividing boards are still left on the driveway since May and we have no way to remove them ourselves. Communication with them was good until they got their payment. After that they were completely ignoring the issues. Promised to send someone "right away" after multiple attempts to contact both owners and main office still no luck. Terrible company! read more

We had a stamped concrete patio poured - it was going to be amazing, beautiful, big...perfect. I was so excited! ... Until I checked in on the gentleman who came one Saturday morning to 'patch' things up before they sealed it. He was almost done by the time I got back there and I immediately asked why the color concrete he was using looked so much darker than the rest, (I mean, really darker!). He simply said it was just bc it was wet, would dry the same color. I didn't believe him, but let him do his thing... I mean the damage was already done. Immediately, I called the foreman, he told me he'd be out to take a look on Monday. I knew then that only a company that is honest and stands behind their work would correct it and held onto that. Their remedy was to use a darker tinted sealant. Sounds like it would work, right? Think again. Not only could you still see the botched dark patches, but now if any part of your feet/shoes or the patio is damp, without a doubt you'll slip. We can't use the back door under damp conditions and my dog can't even go out the back door in the rain, he just falls off the steps. Just as upsetting, the layers of sealant they applied has started to chip away and the entire patio is already in a multi shade mess and terrible shape, after only a few months. In my mind, it's irreparable- unless it's entirely replaced. I'm terribly upset we paid so much for a mess, a mess that Fortis will not own up to and fix their own mistakes. I had contacted them and asked for a fair resolution and to date still have not even gotten an acknowledgement or response. (I'm still waiting and would appreciate it). Do yourself a favor and don't use Fortis, unless they agree to fix the mess they created in my backyard. read more

The cheapest compared to many other concrete companies but as I had to learn the hard way sometimes the cheapest isn't always what you may want. My new driveway completed by Fortis Concrete holds water, the lines they put to separate the slabs are not straight. I just don't know what to do with the mess I'm left with. I would not recommend them as what they pride themselves on desperately getting the job and not living up to their promises. I'm sad that I was hoodwinked by these scam artists, they brag about how many jobs they did in the neighborhood but they choose quantity over quality. I would suggest that you make sure you talk to some actual customers before letting any contractor do work at your home. As a homeowner I work hard to live the America dream of homeownership. We are quite happy with the results. They crew got the job done on the timeline they promised which was great. We had our driveway done by Fortis some years back. They put all sorts of stone into the concrete, and it has all risen to the top, and now we have little holes all over our driveway. They would not do anything about this either, and now they are leaving flyers in our neighborhood again soliciting work. If you live in the Briarcliffe area, DO NOT contract this company - they may be less money, but in this case you really do get what you pay for, and much less!!! First off when they did the driveway it was pitched towards the house and it caused flooding in my basement when it rained. I kept getting promises from them that they would fix it, but they never showed up. Then I had the city issue them a citation for it, pitching it towards the house is a code violation. While I was at work they came and dug up the middle section of the driveway. I got home while they were finishing up and they said they would be there to finish it tomorrow. Upon further inspection, the concrete is not even 3.5 inches deep, I paid additional for a 5 inch pour. It was easy to measure cause they cut out the middle. Code in my town is 4 inches. The city wrote them another violation for that. They never returned to finish the job and I had to hire another company to complete it. Stay away from them, the portion they left looks horrible, it looks old and weathered and flaking away. I filed a complaint with the States Attys office on them and I'm not the first, they had 31. My sidewalk and front stoop have been ruined by Fortis Conctete. I used them to replace my driveway, walkway, and resurface my front stoop. Within the first year there were craters and cracking, separation and flaking. Note I have always been working with the co-owner/owner. He came out again and said they had bought bad concrete mix from a supplier, and would make corrections and replacement after settling the dispute with the supplier. I was told they would contact me. Did not hear from them for years. Recontacted them multiple times calling the office and cell phone, each time leaving a message, and they finally came out again and was accused of not calling them. Showed them info, notes, and recalled our conversation which we both indulged in around my BD. He acknowledged it, and was told they would be back to schedule the re-do again. Finally got them back after numerous calls and was told again they would make good. Again numerous calls to office and owner and have been ignored again. Finally received an text noting a call back, and guess what??? Same results... No call back. Very, very, very, very frustrated and upset for years with Fortis Conctete. Again please note.... dealing with the co-owner/owner each time face-to face. Have called, left over 35 messages since April this year via cell phone, text, and messages in the office with various administrators. read more

Ok Rebecca B apparently you did not get your information correct on your "internal investigation". Your driver was not running late because when I called your office I was standing outside in my driveway waiting and the woman in the office told me to hang on while she called the driver and when she came back on the line she said " the driver is at my address". Like WHAT!!! IM STANDING IN MY DRIVEWAY!!! I told her the driver was not there and she said "yes he is he just told me he was there" OMG I told her "no he is not I am outside in the driveway". She said well I will have him call you. He did and told me he put in a different jobs address and was there, NOT in my driveway. So if your going to investigate and try and repost that I was wrong think again. Those are the facts so get it straight. As far as a plumber, really???? All we needed was a drain with a pipe leading to a culvert and a hole cut out in the garage . Where is the plumber needed???? A homeowner could do that job but we just thought a good company could handle that task. Obviously not yours, but thanks we did find one that can and will. read more

Fortis Concrete (aka Fortis Groundworks) Hired these guys earlier in 2015 to pour a driveway, which they did in May. We were told the existing pavers on each side of the driveway (the first row touching the driveway) would be removed to pour the driveway. The pavers would then simply be replaced. What we were not told until AFTER the driveway had been torn out, was the driveway had settled 4-6 inches, so all pavers would have to be removed, then regraded to reinstall. Their solution? Install stamped concrete at app. $2800., (this was all verbal of course). And the same would have to be done with the front walkway. Fortis also installed a drain for us from the garage (out and under the new concrete) which was suppose to be PVC, but they installed plastic corrugated, a much cheaper and thinner product. The PVC was in writing, but they installed plastic corrugated anyway. Bottom Line: Get EVERYTHING in Writing from these guys and talk with other people familiar with this type of work PRIOR so you know what to anticipate, because they will not tell you up front. And monitor everything anyway. The driveway looks nice, although it is only 2.5 months old. ~Post Mortem, we had our landscaper finish the job...not inexpensive, but we always know what is happening upfront. read more

We had our falling-apart asphalt driveway and our sunken front walk replaced with a nice, new concrete driveway and walk by Fortis a month ago. We are very pleased with the results. Andro even suggested a last-moment improvement to the alignment of our walk that made a big difference. We are so grateful that he did. You could tell that the workers completed the job with professionalism and attention to the project, and left the area in excellent shape. I cannot say enough great things about this company. Fortis (Andro) came out to give me an estimate on cleaning & re-coloring my stamped patio. Andro explained clearly & politely what they would do. While he was there he saw that I was adding pavers around my patio. He gave me an estimate to reset my old pavers (that had been installed wrong by someone else) and lay more pavers down to make it larger like I had wanted. THEN he suggested resurfacing my front stoop which needed help :). I agreed on everything that he pointed out. BUT then I took the plunge and had Fortis re-do my terrible asphalt driveway & sunken sidewalk too! I changed to a beautiful California Style Concrete Driveway with a beautiful new sidewalk & textured front entryway. I LOVE ALL THE WORK THAT THEY DID FOR ME! They were timely, had a very fair price & every worker was polite & helpful! They were quality all the way. Everything went smoothly & I could not be happier with Fortis.
