He was responsive to phone calls and emails, and is a genuinely nice guy. Jason's team is obviously skilled at building fences. Fortress recently decided to start installing commercial fences only. Okay, fine. But they made that call after coming to my home three times for info-gathering sessions in preparation for drafting a quote. Why three times? Because they didn't tell me what I needed to do to prepare in advance for their visits. The first time, they said they needed the site survey. Okay, the second time I had that available. But then they said they needed all of the corners marked by a survey company. So I hired a survey company for $250 to mark the corners. And then they came a third time, gave me a quote that didn't reflect the borders I'd requested, and when I tried to correct it, they dropped my job entirely in exchange for commercial business. Meanwhile, my neighbor had a plan with Fortress for installation, though they hadn't signed a contract yet. They dropped her job, too, in favor of commercial business... and never actually told her. I had to tell her myself! I called the owner of the company to complain and left a voicemail, and never heard anything back. What terrible customer service. I guess in hindsight, I'm glad to give my business to a different fencing company - to one that actually cares about how they treat people. read more

Our fence from Fortress Fencing actually resembles a fortress. I hope our neighbors don't think we're being anti-social! We have a large backyard (two lots), with about six houses banking our property, and an apartment complex across the back. A fence for us was part-for privacy and part-for the dogs. With such a large-scale project (they told us it was the largest residential fence they'd done!), we wanted to make sure we were getting the right price, but also that we were getting exactly what we want. We had several contractors bid on this project, and what we liked most about Fortress was the photo album of past work, and Jason, who was very friendly and knowledgeable. Honestly, it was the only company we spoke with where we felt they understood exactly what we were looking for... A board-on-board fence, that steps in segments, with trim across the top, and capped posts. He also knew to ask important questions that other companies didn't -- like due to a culvert that runs under our lawn, did we want to add a back gate for ease of access in case the city ever needs to get to it. We did have a little trouble reaching Fortress when we decided to move forward with their bid. But once we got them scheduled, everything was smooth sailing. The project started on a Tuesday, and ended the following Tuesday. The crew generally worked from 10 to 4:30, and seemed efficient and careful. We surveyed the progress, and only saw one thing of concern -- one board was about a 2-inch gap from the post. Phil phoned Fortress, and they told him to mark the board and they'd handle it. Which they did. They cleaned up the property well, only missed a few scraps. And the finished product looks really great, from the construction to the stepping to the placement. They even took the time to extend chicken wire from under our deck to where it meets the new fence and staple it in, so that our dogs can't make a great escape. All in all, Fortress kept us confident and happy! read more

Jason and his team did a fantastic job on our fence! They were very easy to work with, came out to measure and answer any questions on multiple occasions, and made sure to stay within our property boundaries very well. Jason himself is a really nice guy, a great character, and made sure to help us save money on our fence at every opportunity (score!). We had a ton of designs to choose from, and had a great 'no pressure' attitude. Our backyard is completely not level - and half of it feels like its in the forest. We're so happy that we went with Fortress Fencing to fence our 1/2 acre yard. Due to HOA issues, we were constantly asking for updated quotes and spec changes for the project (even midway through at one point), and Nathan was incredibly patient and responsive through the entire process. This fence has probably been the best investment that I have made in the house. It's a well-constructed and great looking fence. We went with the "board on board" option with sturdy 6x6 inch posts. I made an appointment for a residential fence estimate for about a month in the future, only to have the attempt to cancel it the DAY BEFORE it was scheduled, since the company was transitioning to commercial property only. Since I value living up to obligations, I expressed my dissatisfaction with this last-minute cancellation. It was ultimately agreed that this would be their final residential project. The estimate visit went very well, and after receiving the formal estimate, I agreed to proceed with the project at their price only to have them decline the job they had offered YET AGAIN! Apparently they do not place the same value on living up to and fulfilling obligations and agreements. read more

After a shaky start, due to miscommunication with ONE salesperson, we had a good outcome from Fortress. Three different types of fencing were installed in very quick time. It looks great and hopefully will last a while as it is not cheap. But they are in line with all the other estimates I got locally and from Raleigh. I have one remaining issue with water but they are coming back to fix that. Be there when they install, they did cut some bushes back way too much when i wan't on site. read more

My experience with Fortress Fencing was absolutely fantastic! I HIGHLY recommend them. When I moved into my new home, I found out that my two next-door neighbors both had fences by Fortress Fencing--definitely an immediate sign that they do quality work. The office manager was communicative and responsive, making it really easy to set up appointments and get any questions answered. From the start, it was a seamless process and they made it truly easy for me. Someone came out to give me a quote, talk me through the options, and was patient with all my questions (this was my first time having a fence installed). I got a detailed price quote within 24 hrs. and we moved forward within a couple of days! The installation itself moved quickly (three days total), and the workers were on-time, friendly, and truly did such a good job. I can't say enough kind words about my whole experience. We need some repairs done to our fence and I decided to call Fortress for an estimate. I scheduled an estimate, they called to confirm my appointment the day before, but no one ever showed up... and my husband was home all day, so I know we didn't miss them. I understand things come up, but I wish someone would have called me to explain, reschedule, or something. They may do good work, but I was disappointed by my experience (or lack of experience). read more

The fence Fortress Fencing built for me is beautiful! They were challenged with trees and uneven terrain, they saw to every detail and it is perfect. More importantly was Nathan, who managed the project at my house. I drove this guy crazy - changed my design at least three times, called him non stop while they where putting it up, and second guessed all of my decisions. After the onsite project review, I was excited that we were on the right track for the gate needed for our driveway. Two weeks went by before I received a quote that was not at all what we had discussed during the onsite appointment. Additionally, their reasoning to justify the quote discrepancies and the high price was completely counter-intuitive. We were not completely happy with the process of working with Fortress. The initial build was extremely poor. They made repairs and acknowledged that the build was bad but the overall fence was not worth the cost. We had lower bids and expected higher quality. read more

My request for a quote must have gotten lost, because it was several weeks before I heard from them. But from the first conversation with Kelly in the office, I was impressed. They were willing to negotiate a price comparable with their competition, and they seemed a lot more interested in earning my business (which I like--why would I hire somebody who doesn't care?) so I decided to go with them. And I am so happy I did! My project got bumped earlier than expected, and my fence was done in two days. It looks great, I've already gotten complements from neighbors. Was it the absolute cheapest? No. But the customer service, the speed, and the quality of the product have definitely earned my strong recommendation. read more

Beware! This company was far from professional or qualified. We needed a simple entry gate installed. After the onsite review they came back with very complicated gate and solution - that was priced at 8K. After a few email exchanges (and calls) to try and better understand the price, they stopped returning emails altogether. They clearly don't want small, residential business. On my first call to the company (assume a receptionist), was abruptly interrupted mid-speaking to be advised that if I was expecting anything under 5K that I was "wasting my time" considering them. No lie! I should have taken that as a warning in itself. It's unfortunate, as we always like to give locally owned businesses our business - but service and professionalism are sub-standard here. read more

We had a small fencing project to complete and had another fence company lined up to do the work. We had been happy with their work but they were too busy to return our calls to complete our small project. A friend recommended we call Fortress so we gave them a try. Their quote was reasonable so we scheduled the work. There was a weather-related delay that they communicated to us appropriately and rescheduled. On the scheduled days they arrived as planned and installed the fence. The fence looks great and blends perfectly with the original fence. In fact, in taking a closer look we think Fortress used better quality hardware than the original fence company. I recommend Fortress Fencing highly. read more
