I make sure to fill in all the air pockets of my eggroll with that sauce, that's slappin! This is basically the only Chinese restaurant in the area, other than Jade Buffet, which is obviously a buffet place. We've been going to Fortune House for many years, and I don't know if it's the pandemic or what, but their quality has dropped from mediocre to downright poor. After last night's experience, I've reluctantly removed their phone number from my contacts list. For the second time in a row, the chicken was absolutely inedible. We ended up throwing most of our food away, and they're not exactly cheap. I've tried a variety of their dishes, and they're usually ok if one has a Chinese food craving. However, it's not ok anymore and we'll have to eat Chinese food when we're out of town from now on. This is not to say it was bad, but it was the worst I've ever gotten from Fortune House in Owosso. The Hot/Sour Soup was 90% broth with no 'heat' and only a few green onion bits, whereas, normally it is hearty and spicy like I prefer. The Shrimp with Pea pods was terribly over cooked and the Vegetable Lo mein seemed like it had been made yesterday. The eggrolls were fine. I wish I would have read the Yelp reviews first but AVOID AT ALL COST. My wife is now having food poisoning from her meal here. We got take out as it's close to the public but looked bad inside. Almost no lights and that should have been my first clue for them to save money, also on costs on food by I guess skipping corners. The Rice was HORRIFIC tasting and my chicken was DRENCHED in Sause that was not General Chicken, tasted funny and not like General Chicken, the Egg roll tasted like it was from a freezer. 4 of us ordered takeout. NONE of us had a decent, even edible meal. The previously yummy crab rangoon were tough and tasteless. The lo mein with vegetables contained thick, pasty noodles and NO vegetables. The beef with broccoli contained 3 soggy pieces of broccoli in the entire order and the beef was tough. The chicken with cashew nuts was inedible-everything was in small cubes=even the cashews-and covered in too much dark, tasteless sauce. The shrimp with brown rice was dry and contained few shrimp. Overall, it was $65+ of terrible, horrible food. NEVER again. I agree with some others on here that it really has gone downhill. I used to love this place when I was in high school/college. I didn't realize the owners changed (some reviews on here have mentioned this, I'm unsure as I moved back during Covid so I don't actually see anyone in person) but dang, the quality of food has gone downhill. If you order take out their portions are small (for the price) and the quality of the food is not good. I'm disappointed because I just moved back to Owosso and was craving this. Well I gave it three tries and it got three strikes. I would rather just not eat it. Great food, good service. Nice Chinese food, and the American portion of the restaurant is also excellent and will suit well someone when everyone wants to eat Chinese but them when choosing. Grilled Cheese = amazing. Perfect light golden crisp to the bread, not smushed like most places, perfectly melted cheese, golden crispy fries. Awesome rice, delicious buns, and egg rolls as well. Ambiance is very nice. Soft lightening, beautiful Asian decor and music, and even a glass case of trinkets and nice things you can buy, including sealed bags of their delicious fortune cookies. Came to this restaurant for an award ceremony. Only a small group. Took an hour for the food to show. COLD I ate here twenty five years ago. The food was horrendous then and it still is. Go anywhere else to get a better meal. The food is absolute garbage. The manager couldn't care less. The waitress was completely clueless. The food is absolutely incredible. If I were judging on food alone I would give 5 stars. The reason we stopped coming in was because of our usual waitress. She's a very nice lady but her body odor ruins the experience. You can almost see the green smoke lines as if she's a cartoon character. Our first time here was okay, nothing special. Our most recent visit wasn't great. We arrived on a Tuesday around 5:00, the place was quiet with maybe two other tables. It took a long time for us to get our food (about 45 minutes) and we didn't order anything complicated. Two General's Chicken, a Sesame Chicken, and a Sweet and Sour Chicken. The only things that stopped the kids from going nuts with hunger was the soup and egg rolls that came out first. I am a Oriental food fan. Everywhere I go Chinese is my 'go to' food. Another Chinese restaurant in Owosso that just don't cut it. I ordered a simple dish, Chicken Lo Mein. The 'Lo Mein' noodles had to be spaghetti pasta, not like any Lo Mein I've had anywhere else. At least it wasn't greasy though. Seasoning was so-so. Chicken was freshly cooked. Wife had Sweet and Sour Chicken and she was happy with it. 5 stars for that but negative ONE for Chicken and spaghetti noodles = two stars in my review. read more

This place had the worst food in this genre I have ever had. The Cashew Chicken was a huge mystery as to what the ingredients were and my husband's General's Chicken consisted of huge meatballs. Both of our meals tasted horrible. My friends loved their Hoy Sin War Bar and have eaten it regularly. It looked like the vegetables were prepared properly and looked edible. No, they don't always have the buffet like Jade Buffet does but the food is so much better and I've never gotten sick at Fortune House, which is more than I can say about the others in Owosso, two of which are now permanently closed and another temporarily closed due to BLACK MOLD. I absolutely love Fortune House's Chinese Vegetable soup, they make awesome crab ragoon, and their crispy noodles are amazing on top of their soups. Been eating here since I was a kid and the food used to be excellent, but nowadays the food comes out quite under par compared to what they used to be. Before yesterday that still would not have warranted this review, but after our visit yesterday both my girlfriend and I have been sick today. We both had chicken dishes with mine being the general tso's and hers was the mandarin chicken. When the food came it looked rather good but had a funny aftertaste of gristle and bland chicken. While the food quality is ok, the prices are pretty high for what seemed like small portions. Our waiter had our order correct, but I'm not sure how it could have been wrong when it took 30+ minutes to bring out 2 children's dishes, a sweet & sour chicken and a generals chicken. To add to the frustration no one at the table got a refill even offered until the check was on the table and we were done eating. Just another over-priced Chinese-American restaurant. Drove all the way from south-end of Flint just to try this place. Friend really hyped this place up so we finally ate there on March 19, 2016. Yes, his Sesame Chicken was VERY spicy as he ordered but I was totally disappointed in what I ordered. Don't order the Crabmeat Wontons if you're expecting any taste or hint of crab. Only thing that gave them flavor was the grease they were fried in. Soup was very tasty. Too bad it was the first thing eaten because it all went downhill after that. Totally disappointed in the Sweet and Sour Pork, the sauce was not homemade and totally orange in color that obviously came from a jar/can. You only get 6 pieces of meat for the lunch portion. And, I ordered the sauce on the side but dish came with Pork swimming in it. Ain't nothing like soggy battered Pork, Yuck! Eggroll was fresh but they use a lot if Kimchee and the smell was offensive and just too strong for my palate. So difficult these days to find an eggroll with just Chinese cabbage that's not fermented. Although there were only 4 other tables occupied, we waited so long for waitress that friend had to go seek her out so we could order. Prices are high because they have to pay for all of the nice hardwood furniture and they're located in prime downtown building. I will NOT be returning to this place. I've had better prepared food from a Chinese buffet which, is very generic and all tastes are adjusted for the "American" palate. Well not my American palate! When I go to a Chinese restaurant I expect Chinese food made the Chinese way with Chinese ingredients. Guess I'll have to take a trip to China for that! (whatever happened to Kowloons in Flint?
