    Buddha's Best Bowl from Bibimbap
    Emily W.

The Loop food hall business has some new competition. Look out because Forum 55 was awesoem. There are 9 different stations to choose from and everything looks delicious. What's different about Forum 55 is that you order from a kiosk. You can walk around and scope out the different stations' menus or view them at the kiosk. When you are ready, you place your order and pay all from there. Or if you picked up a salad from the bar it can be weighed at the kiosk. Then you can enter your phone number and you will receive a text when your food is done or you can view the many TV screens around the hall that will let you know when your order is ready. Orders are picked up at the stations that the food is made from. There seems to be plenty of seating and the vibes are good. I ordered the "Buddha's Best Bowl" and "House Made Kimchi" from Bibimbap. Everything was super fresh and delicious. Happy Loop Lunching!

    Salad from the salad bar

I work in the same building as Forum 55 and I only come down here when it's too cold to go outside or when I need a quick cup of coffee. The place consists of several restaurants of different cuisines. You can find anything from Mexican, American, Japanese and what not. They also have a salad bar or - "Garden Bar" which is basically a buffet of veggies, soup and a few hot food options like fried chicken, salmon, rice, and cooked veggies. They have a mini market too where you can get coffee (regular and decaf only, no other flavors), tea, and quick snacks. The large or 16oz coffee is priced at 2.50$, which isn't too bad compared to what you pay at Starbucks or all other coffee shops around the loop. They also have pre-packaged cold cut sandwiches for about 5$ if you're looking for a quick and cheap lunch. There are several soft drinks or juice options to also choose from. The only way to order is through a kiosk and they do not accept cash, however, they accept Apple Pay. My company normally gives out 11$ lunch cards from this place and honestly if they didn't do that, I wouldn't really want to eat here for lunch. Don't get me wrong, this place gets packed during lunch and a lot of people even come down here from surrounding buildings, but it's never my first choice to eat here unless my company is paying for it or hell has frozen over outside. When I do eat here however, it's always from the salad bar. It's 0.56$/oz, but it can easily add up. I once ended up paying 15$ because I stacked it with lettuce thinking that it wouldn't weigh as much. It's not the best thing I've eaten, but it keeps me full for the rest of the day. The complaints about the manager are true. She's somewhat of a character. I haven't had any bad experiences with her, but my coworker got yelled at because she forgot to add the dressing to her salad while weighing it. I can understand why she can be like this. The place gets overwhelming packed, and I guess she needs to keep her eyes on everyone because there are no cashiers and she's just making sure no one is stealing from them. She also has to go around each restaurant and make sure they have everything they need or that the salad bar is refilled, so maybe cut her a break you guys, it's really a stressful position. Till next time!

I like the food hall concept. This location doesn't have many restaurants, has a good location though. Went with a bowl of Ramen. It was pork and chicken based with miso broth. This bowl of Ramen did not spark joy. I'm used to Ramen being savory and creamy and this didn't meet that standard. Small portion of meat as well.

Typical bruschetta you see has tomato, which was what I was hoping for when I ordered it, but there were no tomatoes at all. Instead, there were green peas, and a whole lot of cheeses on top consisting of whipped ricotta cheese. The taste made me regret getting the bruschetta, which I usually love. And the gnocchi dish... don't even get me started. The texture made me think I was eating raw dough from my baking sessions. It looked promising when the dish first came out, but the mozzarella cheese on top was chewier than the gnocchi itself. The gnocchi would just become a strange mash when poked with by my fork. The gnocchi was overcooked which resulted in a mushy paste when it should have been pillowy and have a slight resistance when bitten into. Maybe their other foods may have been good, but the combo I got was not filling. I barely touched the gnocchi.

Instead of the typical Chicago style pizza, we decided to try Eataly. First, you walk into a marketplace with Italian products from olive oil, cheese, pasta and wine as well as a bakery. An excellent place for Italian food. We headed upstairs to LA PIZZA & LA PASTA. We were greeted and seated promptly. Miguel, our server, did an excellent job of explaining the food as well as the wine, beer and cocktail options available in both Spanish and English. Kudos to Miguel!! I had the Gnocchi and the caponata. They were both delicious. The others had different pizza and pasta dishes. Everyone agreed that all the food was very good. Thanks to Miguel and Eataly for making this a memorable experience for us and our guests!!

The shop itself is compact and usually busy, with a steady line of customers moving through the counter, but the staff keeps orders moving efficiently enough that the wait never feels excessive. The Garrett Mix is the obvious choice for a first visit, combining sweet caramel and savory cheddar popcorn in a way that somehow works perfectly together. We ordered a bag and found the popcorn had a light, crisp texture, with each kernel coated evenly and the flavors balancing without one overpowering the other. The caramel added a rich sweetness, while the cheddar brought a sharp, salty contrast that made the combination addictive. The popcorn is made fresh throughout the day, and the quality of each batch felt consistent, with no stale or undercooked pieces. While there are plenty of other flavors and seasonal options available, the classic mix remains the standout, and it is easy to see why it has become synonymous with Chicago. The shop is more of a grab-and-go experience than a place to linger, making it convenient if you are exploring downtown or looking for something to enjoy on the walk back to your hotel. The packaging is practical, with bags that seal well to keep the popcorn fresh, and they also offer a variety of collectible tins if you are planning to bring some home as a souvenir or gift. The staff handled the steady flow with efficiency, and the turnover was fast enough that even when the line stretched, we were out within a few minutes. Garrett Popcorn has earned its reputation over the years, and it is one of those places that lives up to the hype. It is simple, consistently fresh, and a stop we would recommend to anyone visiting Chicago for the first time. The combination of the iconic mix, the freshness of the product, and the efficient service makes it a reliable choice for a classic Chicago treat that feels both familiar and distinctly local.

Originally on a mission for a smoothie, I was greeted by a friendly staff member and a much larger menu than expected. I was blown away by how flavorful everything was! The smoothie was creamy, lightly sweet, and very refreshing. The mini muffin tasted like a firmer version of edible cookie dough and was a perfect sweet treat. The empanada was not crunchy, but it was flavorful and the vegan cashew cream was incredibly smooth. On this visit, which it has been quite some years since I've been back, I was a little surprised to see very low stock if not only limited stock. There are several other versions that were not visible or laid out on the counter. However, they did have a wider assortment of the solid animals for example, how convenient that they had the horses in preparation for Chinese new year Prices here haven't changed at all, not surprised. Glad the staff on this particular day there were three of them behind the counter, which is a lot and we're very friendly and attentive as well. Disappointingly, though despite the amount of chocolates I bought, which was a little short of $100 was never offered a sample of anything and every time I go I'm always offered multiple samples. Not sure if this is a new policy or a new practice. One of the employees also noted that the owner of the store was sitting directly outside of the store and she and the gentleman were seated at a small table. The woman was on the phone the entire time, and the man was gazing at his cell phone as well. I'm glad that they let their employees do their jobs and they don't micromanage apparently which is good. I also expected to see more Christmas decor and just more decor in general as these stores are typically filled to the brim with their cute decorations and the sample giveaway boxes and the flowers so I was a little surprised to see it pared back this year.

The Pistachio Cake Donut for some reason was texturally firmer and drier than the other. Unfortunately, the fried donuts were all misses. The dough was just really dense and none of the toppings really hit. The Glazed Donut just made me sad that the dough was bad and the bacon on the Maple Bacon Donut wasn't crispy, so you got a cold, chewy, greasy bite that wasn't super pleasant. The chopped dough pieces in the Apple Fritter were also oddly firm instead of soft.
