Coming from Boston, I had heard the news that Time Out Market is closing its doors (in both locations!) in the next week, and I was looking forward to seeing what the Chicago food hall looked like. I was surprised to see that the website does allow reservations for large groups, so we booked through Resy a few days before coming. When we arrived at Fulton Market, it took a few tries but we happily found street parking. It was a little bit overwhelming when we first walked in. It feels "bigger" than the original food hall in Lisboa or the one in Boston - not necessarily in square footage, but primarily in energy. It was very busy and especially loud, and there was a DJ booth in the corner that felt closer to a club than a restaurant. I'm guessing part of this might be because it was a Friday night, but curious if it's been busier than normal since the announcement of the market's impending closure. The "reservation" system felt nominal at best, as there weren't any tables set up when we got there - by the time I was able to flag down staff for the food hall, it would have taken quite a while for them to find seats and move them together. In the end we were able to find a corner that worked out pretty well. Similar to the Boston location, you can order online. It didn't feel prominently advertised, as the food stalls themselves all had long lines and were pretty understaffed. In addition, after ordering online, there was no notification that the order was ready for pick-up (for several of the stalls). And while TOM is in a pretty central part of Chicago, the food felt spectacularly expensive for what you were getting. Pretty much everything was over $20 (before tax + tip) for an okay amount of food. On top of that, in our large 15+ person group, the vast majority of us felt that the food was definitively below average quality. Mine in particular was Bill Kim Ramen Bowl's tofu rice bowl. It was a depressing mix of unseasoned tofu cubes, dry arugula, kimchi, plain white rice with no sauce, a handful of pickled veggies, and a half-avocado that wasn't even sliced. It tasted about how it looks. None of that surprises me, but it felt like a far cry from the Lisboa concept, where I was a repeat customer for the high-quality food by distinguished chefs at extremely affordable prices. I'm glad I went, but won't be especially sad to see it go. read more

We stopped here for an Asian fusion bite and Urban Belly did not disappoint--we shared caramelized chicken dumplings and they were flavorful, crispy, and not too spicy! The space itself was intriguing with so many choices. If anybody said there was nothing for them to eat, I would say get a new dining companion. There was Art Smith chicken, 2D mochi donuts, and sushi just to name a few. Seating was plentiful, the bathrooms were very spacious and very clean, and the staff was attentive, cleaning up spaces quickly. Time Out is the perfect pit stop for a refuel. Like other Time Out locations, all the city 's greatest hits are conveniently housed under the same roof. We stopped by for snacks and drinks. At Qing Xiang Yuan Mini, you can get dumplings steamed or fried. I ordered fried chicken + mushrooms dumplings ($16.99 for 12 pcs). These were delicious, sizable, and satiating. The dumpling skirt was a fun detail. We also shared a salmon avocado roll from Madai. The salmon tasted incredibly fresh. This was a perfect light snack. I decided to revisit Timeout Market with friends. The last time I was here, I found some great eats and had an enjoyable experience. This time around, I found the food kind of meh overall. I tried some food from Gutenburg, QXY Mini, and Bar Goa. Service is standard for a food hall. Overall, it's a 2.5-3 out of 5 for me. If you never had some of these ethnic foods before (not the American version), then you might think everything is great. If you have, then you will find some disappointment. -Gutenburg - chicken schnitzzel sandwich 4 - it tastes just like a regular schnitzel and that truffle aioli sauce was good. I took away a star because it started to get dry in the middle. -QXY Mini - wagyu beef and onion 3 - not worth $21. You can't even taste the wagyu. You're better off saving that $5 and getting either pork or chicken. -Bar Goa - Goan chicken curry 2. I've been to real Indian cafes and restaurants. This one is pretty much like watered down Indian food for Americans. Seasonings are not robust and lack flavor. I knew something was up when the food was already finished. read more

My friend and I stopped by time out market around 1:30 on a Sunday and were surprised (pleasantly!) that it wasn't too crowded. The food hall itself has lots of seating but there's loud TV/radio blaring that makes for a less than comfortable eating experience so we opted to check out the roof deck and were so glad we did! It wasn't crowded at all and was much more quiet and peaceful than the indoor seating. For food, I got the chicken shawarma wrap with a side of fries from Libanais. The wrap itself was not super flavorful - it would have benefited from more sauce or spread since the meat was a little dry - but the fries were delicious. Perfectly crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside, plus the garlic mayo they came with was delectable. I definitely would come back to sit on the roof deck but probably would try a different food stall next time. read more

This place was awesome! The worst part, so many restaurants to try in one area it was hard to choose which one. Ok....thats not bad, I get it. It just means a return to Time Out Market is a must. It was busy and loud, yet there was plenty of seating. We grabbed a couple trays of food and bellied up to the bar. Even with the amount of people we seemed to have found a spot where it was quiet enough for us to talk amongst ourselves. Oh, and if you are a people watcher like me, this is a must. I found this food hall on Yelp and I'm glad I did! I wanted the Chicago experience and this one comes close. Parking can be found on the street or at the parking garage. We were fortunate to find one close by. This food hall has a modern chic vibe. It's dark and mysterious. Plenty of tables in the middle with the stalls on the outside and a bar in one side. They quite literally have every type of cuisine possible - pan Asian, Mediterranean, Italian, American, Mexican, etc. They have more than enough seating on both floors, plus a small arcade upstairs and the occasional DJ that brings a fun vibe to the space. Everything is reasonably priced and the food here is TOOOOO good. This is perfect for groups who maybe don't want to all eat the same cuisine. The location is great in West Loop too. I had only been to timeout market in Chicago one other time during a previous visit and did not have a great memory of my experience there, so when my company planned one of our team dinners there I wasn't super thrilled, but it ended up being an incredible experience! Our team rented the private, third floor rooftop, with an indoor bar and patio Terrace with seating and a huge view of the city That alone would have been great, the team arranged for an open bar, and the drinks were delicious. I kept having the frozen tequila drink, which was the bartenders own recipe, and so refreshing on such a warm summer evening. Our team worked with the time out market staff to coordinate this event, with each of us receiving a voucher good for $30 of food on the main floor. With so many options, it was hard to decide what to get, I ended up going with the quesadilla, which was good, but not super memorable. The ambience in there, however, is electric, especially when all of us remote workers get together twice a year. People were loving their meals and the entire experience, I thought it was so cool that the market worked with our team to provide such a great experience for such a large group of people read more

Time Out Market is such a vibe! It's an open community style food hall with a variety of food and drink options. Ethiopian, Mexican Asian, ramen, sandwiches, burgers and ice cream; there's literally something for everyone here. What's cool is that the restaurants here seem to rotate frequently so there's always something new to try. On my last visit, I stopped by with friends and got a chicken sandwich, muhammara, potstickers from QXY, and chicken curry from Bar Goa. Everything was delicious and far better than you'd expect from a "fast food" type of place. The vibe is always lively and fun and perfect for a group outing or quick bites. Sushi, burgers, Indian, pizza, and pasta. We ended up doing the Indian at bar Goa. I had been to the actual restaurant in town and loved it so much I was ready for it again. Also tried some Chinese dumplings at the Asian place. Those were so good with a good soy dipping sauce. We got chicken and some mushroom. Both excellent. The butter chicken was good although very bland. Plentiful though. The mushroom fried rice I loved at the restaurant wasn't as good at the market and didn't have the fried egg on top. Not as spicy and taste wise kinda bland. Probably made for the masses . Also tried the chicken Kathi rolls. I did like those. Good amount of chicken on a Indian flatbread. With greens and a good chutney. I could have eaten spicier though. So we were a little disappointed. I get that places like this are catered to a mild palate though. Should have asked for extra spicy. Great place to eat on the fly though and casual. Also a coffee and dessert place in the mix. It was our first time at this location of Time Out Market. It's a more upscale food hall with lots of international options. You order, get a buzzer and seat yourself. Grab your food when it's ready and get your own drinks from the bar. It's a great way to catch up with friends while allowing everyone to eat what they want and keep separate checks. It was busy when we visited but it's big so we found seating easily. We enjoyed some delicious espresso martinis at the bar while we ate. This is in a great area. I think the food was good, not the best meal in Chicago, but it's a really good vibe so that's part of the experience. We went on a Monday around 5 and it wasn't crowded or loud. The cocktails from the bar are alright but nothing special, I usually stick to beer or something simple here. I grabbed the 1/2 and 1/2 dumplings with the pork/cabbage and coriander/Lamb from QXY mini. The pork ones were alright, but the lamb stole the show! Absolutely exquisite. Tremendous flavor. We also got the chicken curry from bar goa and the chicken and rice cakes from urban belly. The Chicken curry was tender but not my cup of tea, flavor wise. The chicken and rice cakes from Urbanbelly were amazing. Chicken was crispy on the outside and very tender inside. The sauce was delicious too. Urbanbelly The chicken fried rice was solid comfort food, but the Thai fried cauliflower baos stole the show. Crispy, saucy, a little spicy-sweet -- I'd come back just for these. Libanais We went all in with shawarma, falafel, and hummus. Everything was fresh and flavorful, the kind of spread that makes you want to keep dipping and snacking long after you're full. This is a nice venue for events and food. Today was an Asian food event on 5-4-2025. It was okay for $65 per person on the 2nd level. There was all you can eat Bahn mi w beef, kimchi and cheese bulgogi quesadillas, arctic char tartare tuna, mochi donut, lamb coriander dumpling, pork belly skewers w Filipino sauce, and Lettuce and perilla leaf w pork belly and go gochujang sauce. All the food was a bit salty but it was fun to try 6 different restaurants. My favorite was the mochi donut by 2D restaurant and owner Kevin. Overall Time Out Market is a fun place for big groups and find parking on the street 8am to midnight ($4.75/hour). And it's a bit of a challenge to find a spot so take CTA if possible. I tend to get quite overwhelmed at these open market style establishments. It is pretty amazing to find so many international selections under one roof and to have so many choices. My husband, 23 year old daughter, and I visited on a fairly balmy December evening. When we entered we all split up and scoped out the choices. There are several levels and it was fairly crowed. Best thing to pop up in this area in awhile. It's a creation of Time Out, the media company known for online city guides. The Portugal branch created one first, then the Chicago branch opened their own version. Food here is created by some of the Midwest's most celebrated chefs. The choices include Bill Kim Asian Comfort Food. Get ramen whether meaty or plant based. There's also Tony's, which is in the rooftop. Has pretty convenient operating hours. It's open daily with the bakery being open early and the kitchens opening later. There's tons of options for meat eaters as well as vegans and vegetarians. read more

I love Time Out Market! If you are like me and sometimes just want to go out for a date night but don't really wanna get all dressed up and sit in a stuffy restaurant because you can't even make your mind up about what type of food you are in the mood for? Then Time Market is the place to be! Think of it as an upscale food court. They have a bunch of restaurants that serve anything from ramen, fried chicken, tacos, gumbo, Indian food, burgers, whatever you are in the mood for I'm sure you can find something here. They even have a couple bars mixed in with all the restaurants where you can grab a beer or a cocktail. There are plenty of seats available and the vibe gives you a bar type atmosphere. There is a DJ spinning beats and they even have a rooftop bar upstairs. It's kid friendly for most of the day, but at night people come here to either pregame before they hit the nightlight in the Fulton Market area. Definitely recommend and would be a great spot to bring any out of town guests. read more

Wow, Time Out Market is my favorite place after 1 visit. Markets are so fun with all the different options to choose from. The ambiance was fun on a Friday night, the music was perfect to keep the energy up. I started at the Bar and had a beautiful drink with Whistle Pig in it. I wish I remembered the name but it was the only drink at the time with this whiskey in it. If you are going get it! I had a spicy tuna avocado roll from Madai and wish I would have ordered 2. It was fresh and so worth the wait, everything is made to order so it took around 15 minutes. I also went to Urban Belly - Bill Kim and had the Hot Chicken Bao Buns, these were amazing! I finally visited this place since I was in the area for the Artisan market. I wanted to check out and see what this place offered with my wife. We were absolutely enthralled with the huge selection of vegan options featured at most of these restaurants! The market opens at 10 but most of the establishments aren't opening till 11 or 12 which is a bit odd. They have a bar and a game room upstairs. I missed out on what was on the third floor since that was closed off for the day. It was really peaceful and quiet coming here on the weekend. Definitely come here if you're hungry and you don't know where to eat at. Great substitute since the X Market food hall closed down. read more

If you come here around 11am on a Saturday, it is perfect for large groups. The space is huge so there is plenty of seating. I was able to grab a table for my group of 14 people very easily. Kids loved walking around and seeing the different food options. Grown ups also love all the awesome variety. For a group of 14 ranging in ages and food preferences, everyone was able to find something they enjoyed. The drinks are superb. They have a new mocktail list which is quite tasty. I've been to Time Out Market in the past and remembered it was pretty lively and had a lot of seating. It's a pretty large food hall at Fulton Market with a variety of food and drinks vendors. I was here this past Saturday afternoon with a couple friends since we wanted somewhere to sit and catch up. They recently opened up a Qian Xiang Yuan Mini stall here and I was craving dumplings, so I got the steamed KUROBUTA PORK AND CABBAGE (12 PCS) DUMPLINGS (16.99) which were pretty good. The skin was a bit thick but the filling was well seasoned. But damn, it's a steep price to be paying for 12 dumplings. Would love to try other food stalls in the future if I'm back in the area.
