*Spoke & Bird Smashburger and side salad
Mark M.

Stopped by before Morgan Wallen. We were staying close by at a hotel and saw Spoke and bird. Sat outside on a beautiful Friday night. We ordered at the stand which is alongside the indoor building. Very friendly service all around. You get a number when you order and can sit down anywhere. Complimentary water was nice too. Went with the smashburger and side salad. By the time we sat down our food was ready. Patties were juicy and crisp. Great cheese and onions too. Salad was also a nice refresher. All in all, a great base to start the night.

I am a returning customer at Spoke & Bird, and it has honestly become one of my favorite weekend rituals. I order delivery from them almost every weekend and they never disappoint Their specialty lattes are consistently excellent -- creative, perfectly balanced, and not overly sweet. You can really taste the quality of the espresso and the care that goes into each drink. I also have to mention their vegan blueberry muffin. They are incredible -- moist, flavorful, and you would never guess they're vegan. It's rare to find a vegan pastry that tastes this good. Everything always arrives fresh and well prepared, which is why I keep coming back week after week. Highly recommend if you're looking for great coffee, unique lattes, and delicious pastries.

Friendly cafe in a really cool part of the city! Great outdoor seating area right next to the glessner mansion, lots of brunch menu options and good drinks. I got the quiche and a matcha, quiche was a little on the runny side for my tastes but still everything was great. I would totally come back, the food is good and its a wonderful place to sit and talk.

I want to love this place. It's steps from my new home. We went there on the first day to grab a cup of coffee. NBD. Easy enough. The patio wasn't open yet/set up. We ordered at the cart and our coffee was brought out to us. We returned the following day after our final walk-through of our new home. The process took some time and dragged through the lunch hour. By the time we were done it was about 130. We decided to head over for a drink and a bite. We placed our order arIund 1:50pm and the cashier kindly stated full transparency that there was likely a 20 minute wait for food AND drinks (for reference, we ordered beers, grilled cheese & soup, and a burger). Bet! 20 minutes is not unreasonable at all. Easy day.. We sat down on the patio. The day was gorgeous. People were out enjoying the weather and the beautiful trees. I noticed the food runners were bringing one thing out at a time. One drink, one plate, one utensil (even for tables with more than one guest). We sat and sat and sat as one by one, items slowly trickled out of the kitchen. By 30 minutes I was concerned but by 45 I was done. Not even drinks (beer) after waiting 45 minutes?!!? I returned my number to a staff member and politely stated that we never recieved drinks or food. They asked if I wanted to wait- the food was almost done. Politely, I declined..I said we had already been waiting for 45 minutes and couldn't wait any longer. Another staff member came out and asked the same. They offered to pack it to go, but we had meeting to attend and food wouldn't be appropriate. The first staff member said to give them a second; they went back into the kitchen, came back out and asked if I wanted a refund. I didnt expect it, but at almost $70 for a meal we didn't have, it was a nice gesture and I accepted. However, after reviewing my statement I was only refunded approximatelt $30 + change. It's unfortunate because the place seems really nice. The large open, shaded patio with the beautiful trees. The cafe with plenty of seating/work space, and the staff all seem really nice, too. We are basically going to be neighbors. I gave more stars than I wanted to because i'm confident thay my future experiences at The Spoke & Bird will redeem this one. I'm looking forward to giving it a try again soon.

Was a beautiful day and looked like a great place to sit outside and have brunch. Ordering was a bit of a nuisance as you had to scan a QR code and order on the app. Was excited to try the grits bowl as that is what was touted in the overview of the place. Several minutes later, someone came out and said they were out of grits. On a Sunday morning at 10AM. Your main dish option and you ran out? Wife and I both order the traditional breakfast plate. Eggs were bland. Bacon was burnt. Toast was dry and the jam was tasteless. Had ordered coffees and it came way after our meals only after we had to go find someone to check for us. Paid $50+ for a breakfast that clearly based on my feedback wasn't worth a quarter that. Gave it two stars just because the patio was nice and the coffee was ok.

We were in the neighborhood and I remembered seeing an Instagram reel about this place so we decided to stop by. In all fairness we went later in the day, but the coffee was just ok. Our friend tried a bakery item and it was a bit stale - could be due to going later in the day. We tried the: - Banana Bread Latte - Graham Cracker Latte Neither of which tasted like the description, perhaps a bit like banana? Either, way it wasn't that great...the outdoor seating was nice though, it's near a park.

Cute south loop staple. It was a beautiful day outside so we opted to eat on the patio which was so nice on a fall day - barely anyone was eating inside. You order via QR code and table number which is really efficient. We got the breakfast platters which were simple but decently made. It wasn't super delicious but enough to battle hunger pangs.

What a great find!!! Much to choose from on the menu. Staff was friendly and helpful. Cool outdoor and indoor experience! It did not disappoint! Thank you!!

This place was a surprise. You order when you enter at the kiosk/cart. Then you find seating and they will bring out your order. There's a seating area off to the side on the right when you enter. Seating was difficult to find on a Wednesday morning around 10am, seemed like a lot of the people that found seating were working from their computers while enjoying coffee or breakfast. We did find a small table and chairs for two in the entrance/lobby area. I enjoyed the seasonal grits bowl!! It was pretty incredible! The grits were actually cooked perfectly which I sometimes find hard to come by. It came with seasonal roasted vegetables - mine were mushrooms and broccoli/broccolini florets, it was so satisfying and I don't usually enjoy breakfast food!! It comes with one egg on top which you can choose how you'd like it cooked. I opted for sunny side up which I feel was a good choice so that I could mix the runny yolk into the grits. My partner had the classic breakfast and was very happy with it. He loves breakfast places and said this was cooked to perfection and exactly what he was craving. I had the bonfire martini cocktail. It does not come in a martini glass which I was happy about. It has a good flavor of coffee, has espresso in it, and has a slight taste of salty ness. It's really good and not overwhelming or super boozy. Seems like the perfect amount.

Amazing that fun isn't always beers and chugging. The food is actually good and can be talked about in reviews because some people actually come here to eat, which tells you how they actually have a kitchen. Believe everything is good here but we came for the beers of course. It's certainly the main product made here so why wouldn't it be important. They make more than you can believe which is impressive because there's all kinds of crowds who pass through. For sure everyone wants beer. It's $6 a pint at happy hour. Pretty great for craft beers compared to lots of places it seems. Best one we got was the Bucket Hat. This is a Belgian style witbier. Has notes of bubble gum, coriander, and orange. The food isn't an afterthought so get some of that. It's about $18 for a burger. Vegans have options. Certainly one of these is the Veggie Burger. This is an amazing thing with a spinach patty topped with chipotle tomato marmalade, cremini mushrooms, mixed greens, pickled red onions, and sweet potatoes. All on a fluffy ciabatta bun. The rest of the menu contains meaty stuff. For sure it feels like a place for the hipsters but it's pretty great for anyone. It's located at the intersection of Jackson and Wabash close to lots of fun. The brewery has food that's better than expected but many other things about this kind of stuff are typical.

Perfectly decent tavern pizza and rather good onion rings…read more Welcome to a nice little neighborhood sorta divey bar with ample indoor and outdoor seating. It just feels comfortable. Aside from a small service blip where our server delivered the drinks very quickly and then disappeared for a long time without taking our order, everything else went well. The onion rings may very well be house made but I'm not in love with the dipping sauces. The BBQ sauce tastes like Kraft with a shot of hot sauce and the Thousand Island is Thousand Island. The rings themselves are good. The pizza is fine. We got sausage and artichoke and while the amount of artichoke was good there was a paucity of sausage. What sausage there was was very enjoyable but too many pieces of pizza had no sausage at all. That's a problem I've encountered at more than one Chicago pizza place and it only seems to happen with sausage. I don't get it. All in all, not bad.

We went to Flo and Santos because many we know kept raving about their pizza and the Polish…read moreoptions. To start, the space appears to be a traditional Chicago tavern with loud-ish music and a combination of booths and tables. It was a Sunday night and not too busy but the server was a little slow getting to us but was pleasant and reasonably knowledgable about the menu. The beer and drink selections were solid. We started with the pierogi platter and the cheddar waffle fries. The Pierogi were pretty standard, pan crisped, and served on top of sauerkraut with two sauces. They were somewhat flavorless and we we couldn't really tell the mushroom and sauerkraut from the meat at first glance after cutting into them. The cheddar waffle fries were smothered in what appeared to be a béchamel based cheddar sauce which was grainy and not well seasoned. The fries themselves weren't salted at all. Given that nearly all the topping was within the middle 1/2 of the plate, this left many fries being somewhat flavorless. The topping of bacon and green onions helped give it a much needed boost of flavor but we couldn't quite overcome the bland sauce (instead of shredded cheddar) over the fries. We then had the Marco's thin crust tavern style pizza. The cheese was mostly in the middle of the pizza and laid on thick while the edge pieces lacked topping and cheese. The topping were decent but unremarkable. The crust unfortunately fell completely flat. It was thin, which was nice, but it tasted like a Saltine cracker more than pizza crust. I know many people love Flo and Santos for their pizza but we were unimpressed by this outing. The pizza didn't really improve being reheated or even cold the next day per my family. Overall, we were very disappointed by our trip there and given the cost of going out these days I doubt we'll be back.

We ordered the venison burger and, honestly, I was hesitant at first because I was worried it might be too gamey. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. Service was attentive and efficient throughout our meal. They also have an impressive selection of signature cocktails. After we sat down, our server took her sweet time getting to us and was largely absent the entire visit while the servers for the others tables were attentive and present as I've come to expect. We started with the Crispy Brussels and Burrata Toast which was an amazing and fun combination of flavors textures with the sherry glaze and pickled onions providing a perfect counter to the richness of the cheese. Our second course was the Gage Caesar which we've had before and have enjoyed sharing multiple times, but this time the lettuce was full of grit as if the prep chef did not even bother washing the lettuce. The server never came by to check on us so I had to wave the manager to complain about the salad. The server also never checked to see if we wanted refills on our cocktails so we placed our orders with the manager. The final dish was the venison burger which was perfectly cooked and seasoned if you like venison, which I do so we enjoyed that greatly. The condiments that came with it were perfectly matched to balance the game of the meat and the fries were perfect as usual! The server then FINALLY got more involved with our dinner and was predictably perky and present at the end, something that always irks me when they have been otherwise absent for the meal. The ONLY reason they are getting 3 stars instead of less for this visit was the flavor of the food and the response of the manager in dealing with the lack of service (and the gritty salad). I would give the initial server a zero if I could.
