Dr. Williams was absolutely amazing. She was attentive, gentle, and made me feel like I was truly being heard and cared for. Every interaction with her gave me reassurance during a difficult moment. I also want to recognize the phlebotomist who took my blood. She was incredibly gentle, patient, and kind. From her, to the nurses, to the intake and ER staff, every person I encountered treated me with such care and respect. I honestly cannot remember the last time I had an experience at a hospital where I felt like the people caring for me genuinely cared about me as a person, not just my symptoms. Thank you to the entire Monterey Park Hospital team for showing compassion, patience, gentleness, and empathy. Your kindness made a difficult experience so much easier, and I truly appreciate every one of you.

If you value the health and safety of yourself or your loved ones, I would strongly urge you to…read morethink twice before seeking care at Monterey Park Hospital. My grandmother was initially taken to their emergency department for an infection. During that visit, the physician was specifically informed that she was already taking a stronger antibiotic that had been prescribed by her primary care doctor. Despite this, our concerns about the severity of her infection were dismissed, and she was discharged with a lower-dose antibiotic. Less than 12 hours later, her condition had worsened enough that she had to return to the emergency room and was subsequently hospitalized. Unfortunately, our experience did not improve once she was admitted. The level of attentiveness, communication, and overall quality of care was deeply concerning. At one point, a staff member said to me, "Oh, I'm glad you're here, she gets up." The words themselves were not necessarily what upset me. It was the irritated and dismissive manner in which they were said, as though my grandmother's basic care and mobility had become an inconvenience. The following day, the day nurse did little to restore our confidence. She appeared overwhelmed, flustered, and uncertain while carrying out her responsibilities. As a family member watching an elderly patient already struggling with an infection, it was incredibly unsettling to feel as though we could not rely on the staff caring for her. I am writing this review while preparing to take my grandmother to a different emergency room because she has now developed a fever. At this point, after one discharge, a return to the ER, a hospitalization, and continued concerns about her condition, I no longer have confidence in the care she received at Monterey Park Hospital. No family should leave a hospital feeling that the safest option for their loved one is to immediately seek care somewhere else.

The bad news: I went in at 8:45am did not receive any real treatment except and IV until around 2pm. I didn't get out and complete everything until after 4pm. Spent nearly an entire work shift just to get seen and checked. They are extremely understaffed and overbooked with walk ins. They need more CT scan rooms, and nurses willing to see patients. At the end of the day, I was treated, but I did not feel cared for and did not feel like I was important. Of course, there are other patients and we all want to be prioritized but the issue is they receive more patients than they can handle and it does not seem to matter to them at all. You will get treated, just expect to waste a lot of time.

That could've been acceptable if it weren't in combination with other things. Two, one time I arrived FIVE minutes late and my therapist was already with another patient! Wth? Do they not have windows of time for each appointment? Then she ended up helping us both at the same time. And three, at my most recent appointment I didn't like how the maintenance worker was able to walk around like nothing where people are doing therapy, and taking glances at certain moves and stretches. Worse, as I was leaving he was outside and made comments about my moves and therapy! I was aghast and told him that is very unprofessional.

I was in the ER for 19 hours because they didn't have any beds upstairs. That is unacceptable. But the doctors and nurses did their best to care for me until I could be admitted. Wen was part of the overnight staff and was incredible. The ER was not sanitary. The bathrooms in the waiting room and within the ER especially were not being maintained and I might have contracted the flu from using them. Once I was admitted to the second floor, the levels of care were exponentially better. I had around the clock care and a call button for if I needed anything. They made sure I knew what was happening with my body and gave me full control over my treatment options. The food was surprisingly acceptable; sometimes even good. One thing that I found strange was that I never was told about how billing worked or what my insurance would cover. I am lucky that they are contracted with my insurance and I only owe $50 from the ER. But it is concerning that I never was told about billing while I was there. TLDR: Hire more sanitation workers!

It was a little frightening because I didn't know what was going on with me and I felt so horribly, but the ER physician Dr. Obi came and updated me once all the results were in. Dr. Hyun was my anesthesiologist, she was so kind and communicative and clearly exceptional at doing her job. I felt I was in very safe hands with them. The radiology department was amazing. I also want to shout out to Dan in Nuclear Medicine who was so kind and explained every step to me during my scan and to Tovar RN on the med-surg floor who took care of me my last night - excellent bedside manner, communication skills, and overall care! I was worried about carbon monoxide poisoning, heat stroke, anemia, or something serious, and I just wanted them to check my blood work and figure out what was going on. The doctor came up to me and asked what I was there for. I started explaining that I wasn't sure what was wrong and that I wanted them to check my blood work, and he immediately interrupted me and said, "No, I said WHY are you here?" Then he told me, "I don't need you to diagnose yourself." The way he was talking to me was SO aggressive and hostile. It wasn't just what he said--it was his entire tone. He was talking to me like I was stupid or bothering him. I was already sick and scared, and I literally started SHAKING from the anxiety while he was talking to me. I finally told him, "I don't like the way you're talking to me." Instead of calming down or trying to communicate with me like a human being, he said he was the only doctor there and, basically, "If you don't want to talk to me, there's the door." Then he POINTED at the door. Are you serious??? I came to the ER because I was scared that something was seriously wrong with me, and this man made me feel like I was the problem for asking for help. I was so overwhelmed I was practically in tears. I genuinely felt like I could die that day, and this is how I was treated when I came looking for medical care. And the ER itself was awful. There was basically no privacy because patients were being spoken to in chairs in the hallway. The whole place looked chaotic and honestly looked like a mess. It did not feel like a place where someone should go when they're already scared and vulnerable. I understand doctors deal with stressed patients all day. I understand they have to ask questions and make their own diagnosis. But NONE of that gives you an excuse to speak to a sick, frightened person like they're an inconvenience. I came there because I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT WAS WRONG WITH ME and needed a doctor to help me. I will never forget how I was treated that day. I walked into that ER scared and sick, and instead of feeling cared for, I walked away shaking from anxiety and feeling completely humiliated. Absolutely unacceptable. People like Dr EUGENE PARK should not work in hospitals. People like him should be fired!

Paid parking can be found in their private parking structure, meter parking along Grand/surrounding streets, and/or the place we decided to park near the metro station next to LA Trade Tech which was free on Saturday. It was about 15 to 20 minute walk. Ambiance/Decor: Hospital is alright and relatively clean. They also have a outdoor patio to sit and enjoy some sunshine. Order Of Visitor Operations: 1) Walk in and get a visitor badge. They have face masks on the counter for you. 2) You can visit the gift shop or just take the elevator to where your love one/ones are. Service/Experience: Service was great. The nurses and doctors that were assigned to my mom provide great care and was thorough in explaining of the procedure that was going to be done on the following day. The nurses didn't struggle with operating the aspirator device compared to the other hospitals that she was transferred to before going to Diginity. Long story short, my mom had gastritis and was actually able to go home on the same day she had the EGD. Dignity Health For Thought: Overall, my mom's experience was good and the nurses and doctors were professional and thorough in their explanation of the procedure that was going to be done. Glad she able to go home on the same day.

CNA Carla Smith is normally in Registry and, based on my experience, appears to "float" into different areas. Based on my experience, I would not feel comfortable having any one of these employees responsible for the care of myself or a loved one. Please advocate for yourself and your loved one and speak up if you have concerns about the care being provided. Doing so could help ensure safer care for you or your loved one. I also had difficulty obtaining assistance through Patient Experience. I was unable to reach Garrett South by phone because my calls were not answered and there was no voicemail available. I experienced the same difficulty when attempting to reach Matt Salas, and I was unable to determine which department he works in, I was provided his name as a point of contact for assistance. My purpose in sharing this review is not to make accusations, but to encourage patients and families to ask questions, advocate for themselves, and request additional assistance when they have concerns about their care. Patients deserve to feel heard, respected, and confident in the care they receive.

It was my first time here and I was impressed by how organized and thorough everything was…read more Google Maps threw me a little off because it was telling me to enter into the parking for physicians only, but if you follow the signs themselves, you'll find the correct parking for patients. I turned into a huge multi-story parking garage that's right across from the emergency room, which is where I needed to go. When I entered the emergency room, I was first met by security who searched my bag. Next, I was sent to a window where someone asked the reason for my visit. Then I was handed a piece of paper to fill out with my info. I then had to get in line to turn my paper in at another window. The person there also made a copy of my ID card and put an ID bracelet around my wrist. I then had to sit back in the waiting area until my name was called. After my name was called, I was sent into an exam room where my vitals were taken and I was again asked about my symptoms. From there, I was sent to another counter where they asked for my insurance and I was handed a "passport" card that let me know how far along I was in having my case processed. I was sent down the hall to the right where they then took my blood and urine. From there, a doctor took me into an exam room where more tests were done specific to my case. Afterwards, I was sent back into the waiting room to wait for my results. I realized that they had sent me in a big clockwise loop that brought me back to where I started. The first doctor I encountered was while the nurse was checking my vitals. I didn't even realize he was on my case. I thought he was just on break. It was only when the nurse spoke to him that I figured out he was listening in the whole time. At first he seemed dismissive because at that point I had told the nurse my pain level had gone down to 0, but when I told him prior to that I hadn't felt pain like that before, he went ahead and asked for further tests to be taken. The second doctor was casual, easy going, and chatty both to me and the nurse who assisted him. The first test he did wasn't showing anything, but the second test revealed what was afflicting me. If he hadn't been so thorough, those things might have been missed. The most important thing is that both doctors weren't quick to dismiss my case. Otherwise, it would've been a domino effect of something getting missed and getting worse. However, since they went forward to genuinely try and figure out what was wrong with me, the domino effect now is I know what's wrong with me and I need to figure out how to fix it. The hours of waiting weren't the best. It was only towards the end that I realized there was free WiFi that didn't require a password. However, the passport card they gave me did tell me how long each test would take. What I didn't realize was it meant the wait time wasn't for getting the tests themselves, but the wait after. Still, I'd rather they run the tests properly instead of rushing through them and missing something. All that time waiting, I was also afraid to go to the restroom because I might miss them calling out my name. It was again only towards the end that I realized the restroom was around the corner from where security was and they call out your name loud enough so you can hear it even if you're in the restroom. I also recommend bringing a light jacket. The day I came it was hot, but after hours of waiting in the waiting room and being examined in the exam rooms, I was shivering. It got to the point the doctor thought I was scared. The last snag I had was when I was finally out and trying to leave the parking garage. I kept scanning my ticket, but the screen wasn't reading it. It also did a weird thing where half the screen was cut off. I got out of my car, but couldn't find an attendant anywhere. It was only when I was gesturing to the car behind me that the machine wasn't working that an attendant finally came to reset it. I hope that nothing bad enough happens again where I'm forced to visit another emergency room, but at least I know that this one is nearby and I feel confident enough in them from this past experience to feel like I'm in good hands if I do have to return.

I genuinely hope you never find yourself or someone you love needing care at St. Joseph Hospital…read more Our experience here has been absolutely appalling from beginning to end. Let's start with the facility itself. It is outdated, unappealing, and, more importantly, DIRTY. We have literally had to request that rooms be cleaned when there was BLOOD on the floor. In a hospital, of all places, basic cleanliness and sanitation should never be something a patient or family has to ask for. The lack of communication between physicians is equally disturbing. There appears to be no cohesive plan of care. One doctor adds a medication, another removes it, another adds three more, and meanwhile the patient and family are left trying to figure out what is happening and why. Communication with families is practically nonexistent. We witnessed a physician complete a procedure and immediately sprint out of the area without speaking to the family or answering questions. The surgical nurse was unable to answer even basic questions and repeatedly referred us back to the doctor--the same doctor who does not round, follow up, or make himself reasonably available to discuss the patient's care. Our experience with Dr. Sheinin in particular was terrible. Of all the physicians we encountered, our experience with him was by far the worst. His lack of communication, horrid bedside manner, and follow-up was completely unacceptable. If anyone in hospital administration or on the board reads these reviews, I sincerely hope you take a serious look at the concerns patients and families are raising about the care and communication they receive. And then there is the staff culture. Multiple nurses, across different departments, openly complained to the patient about being underpaid, frustrated with management, and unhappy working there. Whatever legitimate workplace concerns employees may have, an ill and vulnerable patient who is dependent on you for care should NOT be placed in the middle of them. When someone is hospitalized, their family is already scared, exhausted, and trying to advocate for them. They should not also have to chase doctors, coordinate communication between medical teams, request basic cleaning, and repeatedly beg for answers about the care being provided. This experience has completely destroyed my confidence in this hospital. I would never voluntarily bring myself or someone I love here again.
