You'll see ruins, graves, and more. With that said, this ghost town has operating shops, bars, and restaurants. It's still off-the-beaten-path even with tourists (meaning you'll never be bombarded with tourists). In other words, the folks that are there is because it's intentional. BTW, the town's population is less than 180 people.

And it was everything I hoped it would be. By day, it has a vacant, ghostly feel, but centered around beauty built from long ago. Terlingua was once an old mining town at the turn of the century. That is until the 1940s when the mines dried up and most of the people left this small but quaint town. Now, it's a place people visit for the history, and the yearly BBQ event that brought the town to back to life. It's a quick visit, this little ghost town, but it's worth your time to stop and take in the history and quaint beauty it still holds to this day.

Yes Turkish dishware which BTW is beautiful. Apparently the owner went to Turkey for a wedding (lucky person) and decided to import some in. I picked up a few pieces because the local Turkish store by me in LA fails to put prices on items wishing customers to barter for prices which is a drag! Stop in! Well worth it!

There is a small museum speaking to the history of the mining community, but when you walk in the entire store could be history of Terlingua and the surrounding area. This trade store has gifts for everyone. If you're looking to dress up your Xmas tree they have that. Looking for a hat (sombrero, trucker, cowboy), they got it. If you're looking for wine or hot sauce, they have it. They have a small book store. so the selection is huge and varied. I truly believe you can find any kind of gift in here for all your folks. When we went there it was later, after dinner at the Starlight Theater next door - so, there wasn't a lot of help at this store. I wouldn't say that the prices are entirely bargain, but they are not surprising. Liz picked up some cute earrings and some stickers. It's a nice place to find whatever you might gift to anybody. if you're in the Terlingua Ghost Town, you should stop in.

First of all, getting a room outside of Big Bend National Park is really expensive, like $175-$350…read moreper night expensive. But this site, which shows a photo of a small room with a private bath, does not clearly explain that half of its room have no bathroom. You have to walk outside to another building. This means there are approximately 10 people to share two showers. There is no TV. The wall AC is one foot away from the bed, which is only a double. Also, they boast that they have an onsite outdoor pool, which is an absolute lie, as there are no establishments in this dry dusty town with any pool.

The cemetery is located in the ghost town of Terlingua and has been in existence since 1902. The…read morecemetery sits on about an acre or so of dry, dirty, and dusty land. Graves are decorated with everything from trinkets to beer bottles. Though located in a ghost town, the cemetery is still actively used for burials. There's an annual Day of the Dead ceremony. Makes for great photo ops. Once of my favorite desert places to visit. If you're in the Big Bend area, this is absolutely a must-see.

The kitchens and bathrooms are amazing, and the little extras, like a king size bed, AC & Heat, baskets of goodies, a bottle of wine on the bar, to Big Bend Coffee for your enjoyment. She also escorted us to the Boathouse bar where the locals hang out to enjoy not only draft craft beer, but music by locals such as Butch Hancock and Jimmy Dale Gilmore. This was our first visit to Terlingua, and thanks to Jenn and her yurts, I am ready to go back. If you're planning a trip to Big Bend, I would suggest giving this place a try if they have availability, as it's right outside the park entrance.

The porch has the most amazing views of the desert & Chisos Mountains! I have now stayed at Villa Terlingua 4 times and will be back there as many more times as I can find time for! I watch the sun rises over the mountains every time I am there and it is always unlike anything I have ever seen. There is a sense of peace & escape from the busy hustle & bustle of city life. I am always able to gain perspective and be reminded of what is important. Cynta, the owner, is warm, funny, wise and SO helpful in sharing the history of the area and making recommendations of what spectacular adventures there are to be had in Big Bend National Park! Baxter is always there to great us with a tail-wag as well! I highly recommend Villa Terlingua as a place to stay for couples (there is the Paper Crete house) or small families (there is a Guest House) or small groups (Main House).

The views from the outdoor daybed and the patio couch are AMAZING. We even decided to stay home one day rather than venture into the park, because we enjoyed relaxing there so much. I was worried about having to get ready for our elopement ceremony in the little bathroom, but it was so cozy and absolutely perfect. When we got back to the room after eloping/taking pictures, Cynta had decorated the room with flowers, towel swans and prosecco. I was absolutely not expecting anything like that and it was really touching that she went out of her way to do something special for us on our day. Cynta is an absolute angel! We also loved being able to walk to the Starlight Theatre for dinner! I could literally go on and on about the perks of this place. We can't wait to visit again soon and stay in the Main House with our family!

We spent the weekend staying at Bubble 2 at Basecamp. The original plan was to use base camp to go…read moreto Marfa and Big Bend across two days but we ended up spending both days in Marfa. It's about two hours from Marfa to TeraLingua so I would not recommend it. It's more of a stop enroute to Big Bend. If you have an EV, note that the nearest Supercharger is in Alpine. The turn off into base camp was a dirt road with several steep hills. No issues with any well maintained cars but just be aware. The whole area seemed like a scene out of Mad Max with the tipis and junk vehicles around to be honest. A ways down the dirt road was a turn off that was the parking area for Bubble One and Bubble Two. Bubble two is the more secluded one because nothing is viewable from the other bubble for the walk way towards the bubble. The bubble itself as well as the fire pit is secluded from eyes. Bubble one, you can see the fire pit from the walk way. The bubble is actually two bubbles, one for the main bedroom and one for the bathroom. Main room had the AC unit, queen sized bed, two end tables with lamps, two chairs, and one coffee table. The entry way "or airlock" had the Kruger coffee maker, Berkey water filter, and mini fridge. The quality of the furnishings is very nice. It didn't seem cheap or dirty at all. The bed, pillows, and comforter were soft and luxurious to the touch. The toilet looked spotless and the shower area was super clean. Definitely fits the definition of Glamping! Now the thing that everyone comes for -- the amazing view! At night you can see all the stars through the bubble overhead as you lay in bed! If the moon comes up it will diminish the visibility of the stars. Moonless nights are the best for star viewing. The bubble faces east so we got to see the colorful sun rise, although blocked partially by mountains. I highly recommend this as a relaxing experience, especially if you don't like camping outside.

Was able to easily find the location because of the instructions sent prior - you are pretty out there! I enjoyed the privacy of my bubble/section but enjoyed being part of the larger set of bubbles and having access to the main pool. Loved the hot tub, made for a relaxing time. The inside of the bubble had everything I need with the coffee maker and fridge, and the wifi was strong. Great, unique experience would love to return!
