Unfortunately, we have a 34 foot motor coach and it is so unlevel. we have to put the wheels off the ground to level it on site 19. But cannot. complain. The owner had to re-arrange several reservations to get us a site we'd not have to change during our almost 2-week stay. The nice, wide drive-in area is so dusty that whenever a disrespectful guest pulls in or pulls out everybody gets a dust shower. Now, when you consider where it is located in Study Butte/Terlingua, no RV Park here can beat it because of the dust issues and the wonderful views. I posted this if you are considering coming here from somewhere beyond the desert, you'll not find a nicer campground other than in the Chisos basin. And those are not so nice because they are so close together. They just aren't dusty. Final word: when you come to the desert, you going to get some dust. But I love it here

Friendly, polite, and helpful, they made check-in and check-out quick and informative--handing out maps with local highlights and always being available if needed. The park itself is well-equipped: * Full hookups * Spacious, pull-through RV sites * Clean bathrooms with showers * Laundry facilities * Heated pool * Paved roads and level pads for easy setup The bathrooms were consistently clean and always available--huge plus. The lodge is a real highlight. Think "Texas-sized" with multiple leather couches, a poker table, dining space, and a full kitchen. It connects to a large laundry room with plenty of machines and seating--making laundry day feel like less of a chore. Connectivity was surprisingly solid given the remote location near the Mexico border. While our hotspot struggled to get even two bars, the park's Wi-Fi came through just fine. A few tips for travelers: * There's no ice machine or propane refill on-site, but the nearby market carries both. * STOCK UP in Alpine before heading down--gas, propane, drinks, and food are all pricier here. * Most RV sites include picnic tables and fire pits. Bring your own firewood unless you want to pay $10.99 per bundle. * There's no shade, so make sure your AC and awning are ready to go to war with the sun. Exploring the area: * Lajitas is about 20 miles from Big Bend National Park--the main reason most people come. * Don't miss Terlingua Ghost Town (~15 miles away) for a fun local vibe. The Boathouse offers cheap beer, live music, and friendly locals. Nearby, High Sierra Bar & Grill has great food and seriously good chili. * For stunning scenery, drive the 50-mile stretch to Presidio--incredible views and the cheapest gas in the region. Nighttime Pro Tips: It gets pitch black out here. The park has well-marked, smooth roads with reflectors, but bring a soft flashlight and use low beams when arriving after dark. They have a no-outdoor-light policy after 9 PM--great for stargazing, so respect it and enjoy the night sky. Final Thoughts: The Maverick Ranch RV Park delivers excellent value, especially given its remote location. Yes, prices are a bit higher due to that, but the amenities, atmosphere, and proximity to Big Bend make it more than worth it. After a long day hiking or exploring, a refreshing dip in the pool is the cherry on top.

Close, close, CLOSE to BBNP - so it was perfect for our four days of hiking in the park, great base camp spot - roughly 45 minutes to the Chisos Basin trailheads (helped us get early starts at Lost Mine and South Rim). The cabins themselves are new, modern, tidy, clean and comfortable - two have indoor plumbing now, it's coming to the third, and all have lovely sun decks / outdoor kitchens with refrigerator and propane stovetop grills, furnished with dishes, silverware, pots / pans, etc. The cabins are off-grid, so you can't just blast the solar-powered AC all day; we hiked and/or hung out in the daytime, back to the cabin for the fantastic nighttime views (LOTS of stars in the DARK West Texas skies) - meteors, stars, owl hoots, occasional coyote call. Katie and Brian are great hosts, dropped in to check on us, gave great trail tips, ALWAYS made sure we had everything we needed to be comfortable. If you're looking for quiet, beautiful spot near BBNP for a base camp, you can't do better than this. One last note; lots of other cabins in the area are IN Terlingua - like inside the town limits and right off the main highway, which isn't awful because there's not much traffic after hours. But those other spots don't have the westward sunset views, probably not the darker skies you get at Arboles Muertos, and DEFINITELY not the blooming Ocotillo and cactuses we were treated to at this spot (we got out there after some good rains). Go and enjoy this lovely, lovely place!! P.S. the cabins are in Study Butte, NOT Alpine (which is about 80 miles north).

All the sites had a picnic table, a faucet with running water, dumpsters and some had a canopy so bring your own if you're unsure if yours does. Also a ring for fire pit is included but bring your own firewood! Best of all their showers have hot water, we were here in January so it got chilly at sundown. Toilets have a heater inside and the sink to wash dishes or your hands also has hot water. Affordable and very quick drive to Big Bend!

Summary: We spent a belated honeymoon here in September 2012…read moreand decided to go back at the same time every year for honeymoon repeats! Friendly, family-built, -owned, and -run, this place is perfect for a relaxing, private getaway in nature. The location is fabulous - less than half an hour to the national park, about 10 minutes to the little shops and a convenience store of Terlingua, and 15 to the social center of the area, the Terlingua Ghostown. The buildings haven't been updated since built (in the '80's), and Cabin 1, where we stayed, needs a bit of maintenance, but the bed was comfy, the rooms clean, the towels fluffy, and the pillows downright luxurious. This is perfect for anyone who's more interested in quiet, privacy, and the spectacular nature of the region than in room service. Background/history: Louise and Bobby Ray started buying property in the 1970's and moved to the place in the mid 1980's. It is now 230 acres, and Louise is thrilled to have guests hike around the property and enjoy it. They built everything there - the main building that functions as an office and also the family's main living quarters; a second house for the housekeeper; and Cabin 1 (the only "cabin" that is actually a cabin and not a mobile home). Bobby Ray passed in 2004, and Louise and her daughter Wanda have been keeping up the property ever since. They and Wanda's teen-aged son live on the property. Although everything was clean and neat, and Louise extremely responsive to any requests, it seems that anything more than basic maintenance has gone by the wayside since Bobby Ray's death, but we saw nothing that changed our overall love for the place. (For example, the shower surround in Cabin 1 needs to be replaced, and you can tell that water is running down behind it, but that didn't effect our stay.) Cabins, Amenities, etc.: We stayed in Cabin 1, the only true cabin, with the other 4 (Cabin 3, the only 3-bedroom, was struck by lightning and burned down in early 2012) all single-wide mobile homes. We peeked into one, and it looked very similar to ours, just smaller rooms. Cabin 1 is definitely on the best site (Louise suggested it to us when I told her we were on honeymoon). The view is SPECTACULAR, with views to both east and west. It feels very isolated, though Cabin 2 is actually close, just cut off from view by a big mound of rocks. No one stayed in #2 during our stay, so we had total privacy; not sure how it would be if someone was there. The cabins are stocked with all you need - full kitchens (modern fridge, coffee maker, microwave, stove), dishes, cookware, etc. The only things you need bring are "specialty" items (for us, a sharp knife, garlic press, champagne glasses) and food/drinks. There is even statellite TV! We had absolutely NO cell phone service or Internet in the cabin, but got wifi in the office and dependable cell service 5+ minutes away in Terlingua (and, surprisingly, most places in the national park). Each cabin has a wide porch with chairs and a small table - AMAZING at all times of the day, really! Cabins 1 and 2 are on a high area, with outstanding views. Cabin 3, above both of them (but all separated from view of the others), burned, and Louise has built a large pavilion on the site, which any guests can use. Cabins 4-6 are on a lower level and, although a good distance from each other, are within view of each other.
