We went to Cypress Gardens this morning and spent several lovely hours there. Overall, it's an…read moreinteresting place with a little bit of everything--walking paths and gardens, a butterfly house, the Swamparium, and, of course, the swamp boats. The gift shop is super small, despite looking much bigger from the outside. The Swamparium was interesting, with fish, snakes, and other reptiles from local waterways and wetlands around the world. I wouldn't want to be close to them, but I also felt bad they were behind glass. We saw several alligators. We wanted to explore some of the longer nature trails, but they were pretty overgrown and ran right alongside the swamp. We were a little nervous that we wouldn't spot an alligator with enough warning, so we stuck to the more maintained paths. We spent about an hour to an hour and a half walking around. The highlight was definitely the self-guided boat ride. My husband did most of the paddling, it took some effort! It was so much fun paddling among the cypress trees, seeing the water lilies, watching the ducks, and keeping our eyes open for alligators in the water. The guy running the boat area was really friendly and helpful. A couple of practical things to know: admission is $10, and if you want to do the boats, sign up as soon as you arrive. We got there around 9:30, about 30 minutes after opening, and were initially told the wait would be about an hour. It ended up being a little over two hours before we got on a boat. You connect to the park Wi-Fi, scan a QR code, and get your place in line. Overall, I don't know that Cypress Gardens would make my top list of things to do when friends come into town, but if you're a bird lover or nature lover, it's a good spot to experience the Lowcountry. And the boat ride alone made the visit worthwhile for us.

The park is very pet-friendly, with wide trails, open spaces, and plenty of room to walk, sniff, and explore. We love coming here in the winter months because it's much less crowded, which makes it perfect for letting our dog, Luna, really enjoy herself without a lot of distractions. She gets to explore at her own pace, and we get a peaceful, relaxing walk. Another nice bonus is the cost--it's only $2 per person to enter, which is very reasonable for how much space and how well-maintained the park is. We have the Charleston County Park Pass, so we don't pay anything to get in, making it an easy go-to spot for regular visits. The trails are well-kept, there's a great mix of wooded areas and open space, and it never feels overly busy during the cooler seasons. Highly recommend if you're looking for a quiet, dog-friendly park, especially in the fall and winter when the crowds thin out.

I couldn't help but stand and watch how well he worked, careful footing, tiny pruning sheets, totalky enveloped in his toil. I bumped into a volunteer who told me a bit about the lake behind the main building, the picnic area, the baseball fields --- a sweetheart of a lady, and so generous with her time. I loved the tall pine trees and the pine straw bed they laid down around the picnic table area. We sat breathing in the sweetest air, observing peace -- absorbing tranquility, this is a wonderfully calming place.

I have been trying to go on a walk every day. Most days, I just walk around his neighborhood. However, I was excited when I heard the parks reopened. I made a venture to Gahagan Park the first time almost on accident. I needed somewhere to go to get signal, as I don't get good phone service in Lincolnville. So I went to Gahagan Park for the phone signal, but after my virtual appointment, I decided to walk around this park. I found a track wrapping around a football field. I headed towards this because I assumed this would be the best place for walking. I passed a few baseball fields on my way. When I got to the track and started to walk around, I noticed that part of the track veers off. I followed this path to see where it lead. It went by some more baseball fields. It also lead to some public bathrooms and a picnic area. At the end of this walking trail, there is a graveyard. It is fenced in, and I couldn't get in. This is the point where I turn around, as the park ends and the walking path turns into a road. I like coming to Gahagan Park for my daily walks. I have a friend who plays ultimate frisbee here! This is a cool, fun, and relatively safe place to hang out. I definitely recommend checking it out!

Hanahan Amphitheater is a wonderful venue for Hanahan located behind the ball fields of the…read morerecreation department. This space hosts all sorts of events from arts & craft fairs to screen on the greens to concerts to other community activities. The amphitheater itself is a nice area with plenty of seating and stage for performances, speeches, etc. Surrounding the amphitheater bowl is more green space, lots for vendors, a snack bar, rest area, and a community center building. We attended a wonderful salute to veterans here for Veterans Day that included speakers, bands, choirs, face painting, various vendors, and food trucks. They even had a mini-fair for the little ones. My daughter had a fantastic time on the rides.
