I absolutely loved my time here getting to just sit and relax in such a beautiful, peaceful environment. They also offer history reenactments here as well, while I have not checked that out yet I am excited to.

All very friendly and knowledgeable and they were great teaching the kids. They had a ton of different equipment making the practice fun and easy to work on certain skills at each station. The grounds were well-maintained even though it was the middle of March and pretty cold out. I also liked that they had some of the stations set up with left handed clubs too, so even my little southpaw could learn and participate too. I'm definitely going to look more into this place so my little one can continue learning and using the skills she learned today.

I wish they would add more targets to dial in distances. I've got multiple lessons from Brooks Ward and he's a great guy. He adjusts to your play level and is easy to talk to. I was shooting mid to low 80s pretty consistently before meeting with him and now I am into the high 70's low 80's after a few months of adjusting to changes. Our lessons were more focused on swing mechanics and specific shot types. The 6 hole course is a great time if you only have a half hour or if you are teaching someone new to the game.

Rolling hills and obstructed views make this course more challenging than it looks. The greens are fast as a NASCAR track, so beware of that. Try to stay on the fairway, because the rough can easily swallow your ball and is somewhat difficult to chip out of. Overall, great time! Quick six holes to finish up a work day! Great for the short game (no driver needed here). I never took anything less than an 8 iron out of my bag! Highly recommend!

When it was time for the indoor reception, everyone was moved inside to the dining area, where the tables were beautifully set. Outside the dining area, there is a good amount of space that had the bar area, room for a photo booth, and the buffet-style food service. The service was really friendly throughout the night, and quick too (to clear used plates etc). I loved the spiral staircase from the upstairs to the dining area/dance floor. It made for a grand and fun entrance of the bridesmaids, groomsmen, and then the bride and groom themselves! A very nice location for a wedding, would recommend!

Went here for an Arts in the Park event where lots of booths are set up with local and regional…read moreartists to display and sell their stuff. There were plenty of police to help with traffic control and we actually found a parking place. Usually parking is the biggest challenge. There were lots of interesting vendors out with a wide variety of items... art work, leather, photography, pottery, yard art items and lots of other items. This was well run with food, drinks, trash cans and porta johns. I hope to go back this summer for a concert.

There is no charge to enter regardless of which park passes you do or don't have. The history of the site revolves around the confederacy in retreat in its dying stages. The contemporary site is a visitor center and is otherwise largely rolling hills surrounded by farms. Some trails were in evidence, some a tad overgrown and I steered clear of those due to tick concerns. But you can certainly have a nice time here getting in both some history and some nature.

Sayler's Creek Battlefield near Farmville, VA April 6, 1865 (the Black Thursday of the Confederacy) The battle was composed of 3 separate engagements: Battle of Hillsman's Farm, Battle of Marshall's Cross Roads (or Battle of Harper's Farm), and Battle of Lockett's Farm (or Battle of Double Bridges). Robert E. Lee's army was retreating from the Richmond to the Petersburg line. Here, on April 6, 1865, Union General Philip Sheridan cut off and beat back about a 1/4th of Lee's army. Eight Confederate generals surrendered, and 7,700 men were lost. Confederate Major General George Washington Custis Lee, eldest son of Robert E. Lee, was forcibly captured on the battlefield. This was the last major engagement in Virginia; Lee's surrender at Appomattox occurred 3 days later. The Hillsman House, which was owned by Capt. James Hillsman, served as a hospital for both Confederate and Union troops. Bloodstains still remain on the floor. The land was originally named in the 18th century for a farmer named Saylor. During the Civil War, the name was changed to Sayler. Some official records called it Sailor, which is what the Commonwealth of Virginia uses in its name for the related park.
