We arrived in San Antonio after an 11+ hour road trip from New Orleans. By 7 pm hubs wanted dinner as soon as we checked into our hotel. Checked Yelp for dinner suggestions so Doc drove us to the paid lot next to where all the Cinderella lit up carriages drawn by horses were lined up. It seemed the boats going up and down the River portion of the Walk were busier. While we were walking I had my eyes open for a table with a view. We stopped at Four Brothers. The receptionist went over suggestions on the menu on her outdoor podium. Cornbread in the shape of Texas, shareable items like Dino ribs for $82, plus Pork Shank and ice tea completed our order. Everyone was very friendly. We had an exceptional view and we had more than enough food that we had to ask for take out boxes. My favorite was the Mac & cheese though I'm usually not a fan. This dish used cork screw shaped pasta and it was moist and not stuck together. I had to share a photo of it with Sweetie who is in Tokyo right now. Doc liked the pimento for the cornbread. As it was almost 9 pm we decided to pass on the boat ride but just walk on the other side with shops and more eateries. We're back on the road again tomorrow to Arizona.

Had a great experience at Four Brothers the other night! It was a quiet Thursday evening, which is exactly what I was looking for - I sat in the bar section with Nico and he was awesome. I tried the gimlet while I waited for my friend to arrive and it was AMAZING. The chicken osso bucco was good, very unique dish with fresh ingredients. For dessert we split the milk punch and it was also amazing - the drinks here are incredible! If I hadn't just got off a plane I would've wandered along the riverside for a bit, perfect access right outside of the restaurant. Great choice on the Riverwalk for unique drinks and dishes!

At La Mansion, you will find Four Brothers. For locals, it's the former location of Las Canarias. It's a brunch menu even for lunch. They did bend the rules to make us their signature jalapeño cornbread with your choice of butter, honey, or pimento. We were all so grateful they did. I had never had pimento on cornbread, but it was a delicious experience. Other menu items to explore: Grilled chicken and bacon sandwich with a "secret sauce."Baby Butter Salad with butter lettuce, thinly sliced radishes, fresh avocado, corn, and river whey blue cheese dressing salad . Sharing both makes it a perfect dish. The bourbon-caramelized pancakes with bananas and pecans looked amazing.

What a find! I'm calling you of mine was visiting from Austin and wanted to try this place that she had found close to her hotel. I had never been here before and must be honest, had never even heard of it. This place was amazing. Beautiful surroundings with excellent service. The cornbread was very good, but when you added the homemade pimento cheese, it was outstanding! Most of the table ordered steaks and were very pleased, but I just had to try something called the chicken Oso Buco. Wonderful! Can't wait to visit here again with family.

We stopped in for an early dinner on our first day of arrival into San Antonio. The location wasn't busy when we got three but when we left around 7, it had gotten much busier. E we sat at the bar and while the bar tender was nice, she spent very little time actually talking to us and in fact, spent most of it at the other end of the bar. I got the dry aged hamburger-delicious! Perfectly cooked, the bus held up and the tomatoes were fresh from the vine! The fries were perfectly crisp! I also had the praline old fashion. It was good-with it had a bit more of the actual praline flavor. My husband got the Philly cheesesteak. Said it was good, but wish it would have had more brisket on it.

I tried this place for the first time, and our server was incredibly funny. He also had excellent product knowledge and offered alternatives to accommodate everyone's food preferences, ensuring we all enjoyed our dinner. The cornbread was absolutely delicious. It was heavenly with the accompaniments; my favorite was the pimento cheese, while another person loved the honey. I ended up eating almost half of it myself. They had a special fish dish that evening, and it was cooked perfectly with a red pepper sauce. The ribeye was also cooked beautifully. Their buttermilk pie was one of the best I've ever tasted. The broccolini was tasty, even if it wasn't the "angry" version, but I'll have to come back to try that one!

    Get this!!! It's freaking delicious

This food is so delicious I've been staying at the mansion so I can order room service from this restaurant. I've ordered the chicken and biscuits 4 times! And each time it's so yummy. I had the Caesar salad and added the fried chicken from the biscuit dish inside the restaurant and it was just as tasty. Ambiance is typical riverwalk style.

My first visit to Four Brothers was for restaurant week. I enjoyed the food they offered for the three course menu. The restaurant is in a beautiful hotel so I expected the restaurant area to be more updated but it is a vintage Spanish style space that does convey with the hotel. The service was good as well. It was a good meal overall and a nice experience.

Came in for brunch New Year's Day. My honey's plate and my kiddos pancakes were absolutely fantastic. My brisket and poached eggs were not the move. Best thing on my plate was the biscuits. The jalapeño is my fault I was expecting pickled jalapeños and got a large semi cooked extremely spicy jalapeno. I would come back for dinner or to try something else on the brunch menu.

Once again, this place did not disappoint. We came for dinner prior to a show at the Majestic Theater. Luckily, it also happened to fall during Restaurant Week. The menu at Four Brothers had two options for each course so my daughter and I ordered one of each which allowed us to try each other's meals. I absolutely loved my Beet Salad and I got to enjoy some of my daughter's Chicken Fried Venison. My key lime crème brûlée was pretty good as well. This restaurant is only a 3 minute walk to the theater so it was a win-win. Great food prior to a show we enjoyed.

A beautiful place for dinner. Quiet, cozy & good service. Corn bread was moist and yummy, I didn't taste much jalapeño. My dish quail on a stick is delicious, I am not a fan of any panko fried meat but this is exception, pickle okra is nicely done. I ate a few spoon out of my husband's chili. Not a fan of Tex-Amex chili, only meat, no beans at all. And the flavor is definitely very different with what I am used to.

Megan providrd exceptional service. She served us Scallop Rissoto dish and Red Snapper. I loved the variety of beets in the Mustard on the Beet dish. Awaiting the Key Lime dessert. They turned the heater on for us. We sat outside!

We started with the cornbread app, which $14 sounds steep ,but it is huge and comes out in the shape of TX, which is so crafty! I love the butter, pimento cheese, and honey served with it - all were delicious on top of the cornbread! I opted for the burger, which was scrumptious, as it just juiced out when I was taking bites. The black garlic potatoes bravas (auto correct is not liking these words), but those were not so much of a hit - I usually love black garlic, but I feel like I didn't get a strong enough taste for it? It's worth it, plus outside seating on the riverwalk makes it cute.

This is a true speakeasy-style lounge that's easy to overlook from the outside--it looks like a regular, unassuming place. But once you step inside, the atmosphere completely changes. The interior is cozy, intimate, and has that hidden-gem feeling you want from a speakeasy. The staff members are incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. I had the pleasure of having Adan behind the bar, and this guy knows how to make a good drink! As always, I started with my go-to Old Fashioned. I have to say, it was easily one of my top two Old Fashioneds I've ever had. Then I told Adan to surprise me, and he came up with some kind of peanut butter chocolate martini. Let me just say... it was a true pleasure. Rich, smooth, and absolutely delicious. What I really liked about The Modernist is that it feels like a place the locals actually frequent rather than just another tourist spot. I genuinely had a great time here. For her second drink, she told the bartender to surprise her. He gave her a look and asked more than once if she was sure she wanted him to surprise her. Instead of making her an actual cocktail, he poured her what seemed to be a straight, extremely bitter liqueur. The whole interaction felt sarcastic and like he was intentionally messing with her rather than trying to make her something she would enjoy. What bothered me most was the attitude behind it. We weren't being rude, demanding, or causing problems. We were there to have a good time and experience the whole "tell us what you like and we'll make you something" concept. I did call the number listed for the business afterward trying to speak to someone about it. The person who answered said I had the wrong number and didn't know what I was talking about. I got angry during that call and said some things I shouldn't have, and I can admit that. But that doesn't change how disappointing the experience at the bar was. We expected a creative and welcoming experience and instead left feeling like my wife had been mocked. I hope management sees this and addresses it, because the concept of the place is great, but the way we were treated completely ruined it for us

Despite the staff shortage, we placed a significant order for at least ten drinks. My husband had made a reservation for 6:00 PM. However, at approximately 7:30 PM, after we had already placed our drink order, a staff member informed my husband that our table reservation was only valid for two hours. Concerned about the impending two-hour limit and the delay in receiving our drinks, which had still not arrived by 7:45 PM, we inquired with our bartender about potentially canceling our order. He reassured us, stating that other tables were available should additional patrons arrive. Our subsequent visit, on Saturday, July 25, 2026, was solely with my husband. We arrived punctually, approximately five minutes before our 7:30 PM reservation. A female bartender directed us to a small, two-person table, despite the presence of two larger, seemingly more comfortable, unoccupied tables nearby. While initially assuming these larger tables might be reserved for a bigger party, the selection felt somewhat restrictive given the availability. Our seating unfortunately placed us adjacent to another patron who was using an additional chair to prop up her footwear, which contributed to an unpleasant atmosphere. The bartender then approached our table and asked if it was our first time, to which we replied it was not. She then asked if we knew what we wanted to order. We requested a brief moment to review the menu. However, we then waited for approximately fifteen minutes for her to return. Eventually, my husband had to actively call her over to place our order. Our initial drinks arrived after another ten to fifteen minutes. Subsequently, my husband attempted to catch the bartender's attention to order another round and request water. However, she was engaged in a lengthy conversation, estimated at ten minutes, with the neighboring patron and proceeded to walk past our table without acknowledging us. This extended period of being overlooked led to considerable frustration for my husband, who then felt compelled to approach the main bar directly to place our order and obtain water from a different bartender. It was only after this that the initial female bartender finally approached our table, asking if we needed anything. Considering the relatively small size of the establishment and the fact that there were only three occupied tables at the time, the level of inattentive and delayed service was particularly disappointing and, frankly, perplexing.

Drinks were AMAZING! Bartender Rob made the best Negroni I've ever had. I asked him to use whatever gin he thought best--result was an artistic smooooooth full-bodied drink. Told him when I was done I'd lick the glass if it wasn't considered so uncouth for a 'mature' lady like myself to do so Hubby's Buffalo Trace bourbon old fashioned was also outstanding. Rob was the bartender last night who did such a great job, and his work was even better tonight. We highly recommend The EsquireTavern for excellent cocktails. We love the long wood bar and high copper ceiling upstairs, but love the intimate speakeasy atmosphere downstairs even more. We'll definitely be back every time we're in San Antonio! First review, Friday night: Drinks were great (Manhattan and Bourbon Old Fashioned). REAL drinks, no complaints at all about those. And the bartenders were very friendly and helpful. Those aspects of the Esquire get 5+ stars from us. But the appetizers were not good, close to inedible. It was about 8:30pm or so, so maybe they were getting ready to close out the kitchen but the chalupitas with chicken tasted like rubber, and no flavor at all. The seafood platter had something in it that was breading with shell inside, but no meat of any kind. We couldn't figure out what it was supposed to be. The shrimp was good and the fish was good but those other things... We'll always love the drinks, the long wooden bar, and the ambiance at the Esquire Tavern, but we'll eat somewhere else and come here for before or after dinner drinks. (See update above to this review for when we returned the next night for after dinner drinks.)
