Pastiche was a vibe for sure! The bartender was pretty quick but we were only one of two parties in the bar at that time so not sure how it would be when it's crowded. The drinks were good but pretty expensive in my opinion for the location. You're looking at a minimum of $15-$17 per cocktail which is almost unheard of in SA. There is an outdoor backyard space to chill in but it does get pretty warm because they use fire to light up the area. Serious hole in the wall bar transporting you into a different era upon stepping foot inside. The feel is pretty chill and laid back. A true speakeasy. Music is not overpowering but a consistently steady background soundtrack. Came on a Saturday around 6:30, 30 minutes after opening and there was one other couple. Tried their mezcal cocktail and another with absinthe. Both were pretty tasty! Sat at the bar so got to see the 1 bar tender work his magic! The place is big enough for 20 maybe 30 people. There's several couches positioned around for a close intimate space. The place feels homey and the lighting is right for the atmosphere they're trying to create. Several repurposed fridges are now used as beer and wine fridges. A nice touch to the vintage feel of the place. From the outside, the place looks like any other house. What a great spot! Drink menu is creative and tasty. Atmosphere is everything; it's chill and sophisticated. Has that dark room feel that's great for a date night to cuddle up with your partner. Not a loud place so you can easily talk to each other. I like it more for a date and not so much a group outing. With the decor you have some many things to look at it's hard to not look around and venture into the different rooms. The bar tenders will come to you for ordering but you can also go to the bar. First time here last night. My boyfriend and I came here and it was such a elegant setting. Took me back to the olden days with the vintage decor and classy atmosphere. Let me start off by saying that this is one of the coolest bars I've ever been to! We came here for the first time yesterday (Valentine's day) whilst on the search for cocktail bars we haven't been to yet in San Antonio. The ambiance is a 10/10 and so were the drinks. I've bartended for a few years in Houston and I was stumped by at least 60% of the menu, in a good way. The French & Italian style cocktails really pushed us out of our comfort zone and we enjoyed four extremely tasty and interesting drinks. Sean, who was behind the bar, was super nice, helpful and knowledgeable when it came to any questions regarding their plethora of liqueurs and fortified wines. Benjamin, the owner, was extremely helpful and personable as well. This is the perfect date night spot or fun, unique place to try out with friends. This is a hidden gem in San Antonio. You will love the atmosphere with a classy vibe that reminded me of a 1920s movie balanced with the very comfortable vibe of the 1970s. The drinks are delicious with unique concoctions that will satisfy any craving. Sadly I did not take pictures. I had the Banana Fosters drink and highly recommend it. Ok came in for private event... First I must say, I LOVE the design and layout. It's different here with an eclectics touch! They are environmental friendly. They wash their linens in house. They don't use paper coasters either! I was given this fancy doily as a coaster. It was beautiful. The back was ideal. I felt like I should've been in a french cafe somewhere. They do have cats! Went for the Yelp Experience and enjoyed the hospitality from Benjamin and his staff. Walk into an open house that has pleasing decor with and seating that encourages conversations. The place is a throwback to Parisian bars that would have background music that compliments the mood. As you walk down the hall, the door leads to a back area that is shaded. There are tables and seats in the back, along with house cats that are friendly. It doesn't seem you are in downtown with doors set up as the fence. During our event, we got to try different drinks and snacks. I didn't get them all, so will review what I tried (even though everything looked incredible!). Started off with Bread Wine that had grape Brandy, Genever Gin, Rancio Sec, Byrrh, rye bread and raisins. The 1st sip does remind you of bread as a liquid form and took me back a little, but the taste grew on me. The next drink was Refresco de Limao e Cereja that had vodka, Kirschwasser, Ginja, lime cordial, fresh lemon and sparkling water. This was my type of drink and would be great on a warm day. The last drink I tried was the Bloodless Mary. This had Aquavit, Kümmel, Basil,eaau-de-vie and tomato consommé. It reminded me of a pickle juice drink, but without pickle juice. I like bloody Mary's and enjoyed this drink too. The other two drinks that were served were Tokaji Cobbler that has Late Harvest Tokaji, Raspberry Brandy, Brown Sugar, Fresh Orange and Lemon Meringue Pie that had Blanche Armagnac, Sauternes, Lemon Curd, and Egg White. Everyone said the cobbler was extremely sweet. I'm disappointed to not try the lemon meringue since it looked like a perfect after dinner drink. I will try that one next time! 4.50 stars. Well off the beaten track lies Pastiche, an unmarked home with a pleasant if somewhat dated exterior in the Dignowity Hill neighborhood. Inside, you will modern mixology against a post-impressionist backdrop with accompanying jazzy French tunes. This minor mashup of culture and eras manages to blend effortlessly as you enjoy exquisitely crafted cocktails from a generous menu of interesting choices spanning a rather generous assortment of unconventional ingredients. That Pastiche is a rousing success should come as no surprise. As mentioned in other reviews, it is another cocktail lounge from the team that brought Jet-Setter to San Antonio, an outstanding experience probably only matched by the Modernist. Yet I find Pastiche to be an improvement even upon the impressive Jet-Setter. The scope of focus is more pronounced, the space a bit more inviting, and the intimacy a bit finer. There is not much by way of parking so unless you live in the neighborhood, Uber is probably your best bet. Still, for an experience this lovely, paying for your transport is a minor inconvenience. It certainly belongs in the upper echelon of any discussion involving San Antonio's best cocktail bars. read more

What can I say? It's the sister bar to Jet Setter so you know the cocktails will be excellent! Think of Pastiche as the charming french sister of the international, upscale brother bar (Jet Setter). Located within a neighborhood on the East Side (similar to Austin's Cherry/2nd street set up of bars within East Side neighborhoods) you'll find this quaint and un-bar like house. Parking is limited you'll need to find street parking or in front of one of the homes behind the bar. Similar to the Modernist, other than a placard that says "Pastiche" there is no way to tell that this is a bar, which i find absolutely lovely and appealing. As the name indicates it's a French themed bar they focus on french influenced cocktails, french wine, and French decor inside but if you aren't into the french "stuff" you'll be fine as they have regular cocktails, beer, and wine available as well to the debbie downers. I understand that they are trying to really support their local community and will be serving small bites and food options from nearby restaurants soon. I love attending yelp events and I'm usually expecting small samples or tastes of the food/drinks so I was pleasantly surprised that they were providing us with full size cocktails- wow, that is awesome and I greatly appreciate the time, effort, and detail that Pastiche provided us and, most importantly, the quality of the cocktails! Here's what we got to try: Bread Wine: Grape Brandy, Genever Gin, Rancio Sec, Byrrh, Rye bread, Raisins Refresco de Limão e Cereja - Vodka, Kirschwasser, Ginja, Lime Cordial, Fresh Lemon, Sparkling Water  Tokaji Cobbler - Late Harvest Tokaji, Raspberry Brandy, Brown Sugar, Fresh Orange Lemon Meringue Pie - Blanche Armagnac, Sauternes, Lemon Curd, Egg White Bløødless Mary - Aquavit, Kümmel, Basil eau-de-vie, tomato consommé  I have to preface my review of the drinks with the fact that I am a whiskey gal so my palate and comments are based on my preference for that style of liquor. Bread Wine: Not my jam in terms of flavor profile, I find gin to be too botanical for my taste. This one was very boozy with a very clean finish. Definitely an acquired taste. -Refresco de Limão e Cereja - I'm not a big vodka fan but this was a fun cocktail and unexpectedly one of my favorites on the menu. Light, refreshing, and balanced. The lime cordial really gave this a nice punch of tart and sweet. I am now in love with lime cordial which, by the way, they make fresh in house! They make almost all their syrups and cordials fresh and in house (yay, for that. I am not a fan of cheap and chemical syrups so glad to see they use fresh ingredients). -Tokaji Cobbler -  this was probably the sweetest cocktail we had. Tokaji is a (Hungarian?) Sweet Wine and mixed with the brandy and sugar it was a tad too sweet for my taste but it was delicious! I would definitely order this again but maybe ask for a punch of citrus to brighten it up (like lime or lemon). -Lemon Meringue Pie - I was fortunate enough to sit at the bar and was able to watch them make this drink. They spent a lot of time and love painstakingly making each one. Served in a tea cup and topped with a meringue cookie this was a lovely cocktail from presentation to taste. Looks can be deceiving it looked like a sweet drink but had little to no sweetness at all, it actually caught me off guard. My only recommendation is more meringue (it was so good! Crunchy on the outside and super soft and chewy on the inside). -Bløødless Mary - I was surprised by how much I liked this drink! The tomato consomme is clear so you get this flavorful punch of tomato in a completely clear drink (like crystal clear Pepsi, remember those?). It was herby, it had great salinity, and just had wonderful layers of flavors that i couldn't stop sipping on this. Everytime I took a sip another flavor popped up.. wow. This is why I love cocktails, experiencing the "unexpected" and trying new flavors that have surprising depth with interesting combinations! I saw several reviews mention a pickle juice taste but I didn't get that at all - there was a lot of salt as in salinity and mixed with the kummel maybe it tasted that way for them. Kummel has caraway seed, fennel, and cumin. Thank you, Pastiche, for your hospitality and amazing cocktails. I am definitely coming back soon and I plan to try your whole menu!!! read more
