I've been here twice, once with our barn cat and another time with one of our dogs. The location is lovely. Their new building is well designed, clean & comfortable. The staff helpful and professional. I called and they got me into the schedule right away! Dr L Monteiro was great. He was knowledgeable, patient gentle, calm, kind, and gave me reasonable options both times for the animals. I mentioned the cats progress(the dog was in a few month later) and he knew exactly what animal I was talking about and gave me details about the visit I had had with him. So he's got a good memory for your pet as well. I got a follow-up call after the visit. If I weren't moving, I'd be back! This is really the kind of place you want to take your pet. When our dog passed away we called them to ask for assistance. It was after hours on a Friday when Bingo passed. They told us to wrap him in a plastic bag and place him in our cold garage until Monday. They May be ok dealing with your pet when they are sick, but when they pass, they SUCK!! read more

Since Dr. Sue has left, the entire clinic has morphed from a caring, loving, supportive animal hospital, to a money based, pushy and guilt inciting COMMERCIAL "clinic". You know that saying " I wouldn't bring my DOG, there"? Don't. While they are perfectly happy to try to up charge anything to 'make your pet comfortable', they insist on countless tests, meds, and office visits. The more you balk at all the extraordinary and ridiculous coaxing, the more they explain how 'if you really cared about your pet.....'. I am absolutely disgusted by their latest act. We had to euthanize our rescue dog, whom we got from a meth addict, and who had lived in a car for YEARS. No one knew his age, clearly he had been abused, and clearly had been hit by a car months before we took him. After already spending close to $2,700.00 JUST to make him comfortable, we had him for 5 years. During which time he saw another vet the last two years. When I tearily called to let them know that he was no longer happy, and was clearly in pain, they told me that he would have to 1. Be seen by the vet. 2. Have testing to verify that he should be put down, and 3. That THEY would make the decision. Not us, with whom he'd lived. Oh no! The VET would determine his fate. The next evening, we had a vet to the house, and had him KINDLY and HUMANELY sent up to see his brothers in doggy heaven. Just stay away from these MONSTERS. And, by the way? The reason he wasn't brought back to 4 paws, was because of a snide, nasty, and rude comment from one of the office staff. I hope she never has to feel the panic, pain, disgust, heart ache, and fury we felt. read more

We all know that at some point our animals will leave us and we would think that our Veterinarian would help us when the time comes. Do not expect that with this office! We called on Friday, September 12 and told the person representing this office, that our dog had rapidly taken a turn for the worse that day. He was over 14 years old and was slowly not eating as much or drinking previously, but that day he would not lift his head or walk. We made the decision to call our vet before he was in pain. We were met with " Well, we haven't seen him in a year and he will need to have a check-up before we can do anything and the soonest we can see him is sometime next week!" This is the treatment we got after spending thousands over the last 14 years of that dog's life not to mention the other dog that is seen by them! I can only hope that the veterinarian that was there in the office did not know of this refusal of treatment because that in itself would violate the oath that they swore to uphold. That person was heartless! Thank God I don't use this office for my animals, horrible treatment. read more

I thought it was a good service until my dog hurt her leg on a Saturday afternoon and had to go to the emergency room the at OSVS. The vet tech took her to check her vital signs and immediately said she was in AFIB (arrhythmia) and put her on an EKG for monitoring. They were much more concerned about her heart than her leg. She saw a cardiologistlogist and has 2 types of heart disease and pulmanary hypertension!!! she had had a full physical at Four Paws 3 wks prior ..costing just under $900!!! So far I've spent $1500, she's one 6 medications and has to go for more test and a heart monitor. Be careful who you trust. They ER and cardiologist recommended I use Salt Ponds Vet in Westerly, which I have transferred to for her care. read more

I tried this vet after a not so great experience with my old vet, I was seen immediately a few days before Christmas with Dr Gamble. The entire staff there were amazing, front desk, techs and Dr gamble, she performed a surgery on my dog on January and the care from beginning to end was five star, they called with updates, biopsy results, dr gamble made sure I knew what was going on and how to proceed with the best care for my fur baby, they have a customer for life. read more

We've been going to Four Paws for a few years because of the recommendation of several friends. Dr. Mary Juber is excellent because you can tell she really cares about the health and well being of our two cats. She takes the time to explain in detail any procedure that our cats might need (Elvis has asthma and Angel has 3 teeth that need to be extracted.) She also gives a complete estimate of the cost so there is no sticker shock. I wouldn't go anywhere else because I feel their prices are very fair comparable to other vets in the area. I've only ever seen Dr. Juber so I am not familiar with any other vets there. I give her 5 stars. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable as well. You can certainly trust your furry family members to Dr. Juber at Four Paws. read more

I have a cat l love dearly and they have saved him and also took him last minute a couple times with complications . My dog went to FPVS for 10 years. We received excellent service, and the vets and techs were awesome. But.... When my dog passed away recently, I contacted the FPVS to let them know of his passing, 2 days later I received a call reminding me of a surgical procedure for my dog. I explain the situation, the person was very apologetic that they weren't aware of the situation. Okay, maybe just a disconnect (or delay in entering information into their computer system). But then 2 weeks later I received a post card from FPVS reminding me of my dog's upcoming vaccinations. Losing my dog was devastating. And receiving this post card after tellin 2 different people at the clinic of his passing, well, I was extremely upset. I called an left an angry voice mail. And the final upsetting piece, I received a sympathy card from the vet we had to take him to when he passed (so 1 appointment), we got a card from his daycare center. Not a peep from FPVS. I would have thought this would be something that all vets did when one of their 4 legged clients passed. It's too bad that the administrative staff messed up that simple step of putting his passing in the computer. We are getting another dog soon, and I'm not sure we'll be going back. It will be a hard decision. read more

Not my favorite. Front desk seemed disorganized, it took a very long time to check in, and the staff acted like they had never heard of pet insurance before. The doctor we saw didn't have the best bedside manner and was pretty condescending. My standards are high for veterinarians and I guess this place just didn't live up to the 5 star reviews for me. A great environment for our pups!! All of the staff is super friendly and they always take good care of our girls we absolutely love Doctor Gamble!! Ill informed and dangerous! I brought my dog here a couple of years ago and enjoyed how the vet (the co owner I believe) spoke with us and gave us the time of day. She explained things well and seemed well educated. Fast forward. Last Spring I brought my Maine Coon mix in for treatment for a rodent ulcer on her lip. It was on one side of her mouth and could easily be treated with a steroid injection. They refused. They said I should change her diet to grain free, change the bowl she eats out of, reduce her stress, etc. because the injection could give her diabetes. Of course I don't want my cat to have diabetes, so I followed "vets orders" for a YEAR and the ulcer had not gone away. It hadn't changed size or anything, not bigger or smaller. So a year later I brought her back and they refused AGAIN. They gave her some oral liquid medication instead that made her drool so much she almost choked. Then they decided an oral pill of the steroid would be better than the injection. I have mobility problems, so catching her and forcing a pill into her mouth twice a day was extremely stressful for her and me. After five weeks of this and the ulcer actually getting WORSE and spreading to the other side of her mouth and getting huge, I demanded they do the injection series. They did and within three weeks the ulcer was completely gone and hasn't come back. The second vet that saw my cat will never touch another of my animals. Her name is Joanne Bergren. She told me that my Maine Coon was too heavy at 13 pounds and needed to be 11 pounds. I did do this, and my poor cat was constantly starving and was way too thin. I don't think the vet even felt her body before deciding that 13 pounds was too heavy. My cat is back up to her normal, healthy weight and she is much happier. She also told me to stop feeding my cat her grain free food because of a single study done ON DOGS about it, without even asking about the ingredients in my cats food. Don't give nutritional advice if you don't know what youre talking about, Joanne. She also told me NOT to get a service dog because it would stress out my cat. I'm sorry, but with my health issues, I need one. The dog is here and my cat loves her. You bet your uneducated bottom that I am not bringing my dog or either of my cats here ever again. Finally, a last note on the first vet we had seen here. After Joanne Bergren refusing to give my cat the steroid injections so many times, I asked to be switched to the first vet we'd seen. I had two follow up appointments with her supposedly, but neither time did I actually get in to see her. They came and took my cat to the back room without me, but still charged me full price for doing an exam that I am sure they didn't even do. This is completely unacceptable. Never again. read more

Our puppy has had all of her well care visits at 4 Paws since we brought her home in May, as well as her spay surgery last month. All of the staff are very nice, knowledgeable & helpful. I was worried about her after her surgery (new pup parents here lol) and they took no chances and saw her right away. We've been taking our many pets to Four Paws for years and we just love them. The entire staff is great, all the vets are wonderful. The atmosphere is friendly and compassionate. Dr. Jenny Gamble is our usual vet and she is just above and beyond what you could ever want in a veterinarian. Just a couple days ago our cat had to have major surgery. She has a heart murmur so this was more risky than usual. But our kitty came through without problems and is recovering nicely. Dr. Gamble in an excellent surgeon and she's an ARTIST when it comes to closing incisions. None of our pets have ever bothered with their incisions, she closes them so tight that sometimes it hard to even SEE the incision. The only complaint I have is that the clinic is so busy - because they are so GOOD - that sometimes it's hard to get an appointment, but they make every effort to fit you in as soon as they can.
