I had an appointment for a new pet who was sick but it was scheduled a week out. They have sick visits available but charge $150 if you want to take one. If the doctor is available why charge extra for an appointment. I found a Vet much closer to home who was the most thorough and considerate Vet I have had in years. I will never recommend this practice. Dr. Ross was very rude and appeared to be annoyed I brought my cat in with an upper respiratory. They needed to sedate him to give him fluids and shots. Upon picking him up the tech described to me how they sedated him and I was appalled. The first 24 hours he was home he did nothing put pace and did not sit down or sleep. For the next week every time there was a noise he would run and hide. I have spoken to other vets and they describe the way he was sedated as inhumane. read more

Dr. Ross and her entire staff are some of the most compassionate people I have ever met! They take the utmost care of my 6 "kids" and I never have to worry when they're in their hands. They always make time to squeeze in any of my pets that need an emergency visit & take the time to love on them when they're there for routine visits. Veterinarians as a whole are entirely swamped due to the ratio of pets vs. vet med employees (I'm a groomer - we're going through the same thing! Too many animals, not enough people to work!!!) the fact that they always find a way to make sure my pets are taken care of blows my mind. I did write them a 5 star review a few years back but after today they get a new 1 star review. I called for an emergency appointment for my 13 year old girl. I believed she had a UTI. They put me in for an emergency appointment which is extra money but that's fine. No time during the call to schedule the appointment did the receptionist tell me that my dog needed rabies vaccine to be treated... I take my dog, wait outside since the waiting room is still closed. We get brought into the exam room which was dirty and smelled of urine. Dog is taken into the back to collect urine. They couldn't get any. Still no mention of the dog being passed due for her vaccine. Vet exams her. Says she's in great shape but they need a urine sample. 2 choices, leave her there so they can attempt to collect but he can't guarantee they'll catch her having to go or 2 take her home and I collect urine myself and bring sample back. Still no mention of the vaccine. We finish and I'm waiting to pat, that is when they mention that she needs to get vaccinated or else I can not receive her antibiotics and the urine collection kit. I ask if I can get an exemption, just a big fat nope on that unless she has a medical condition. She's 13 and even though she's in good shape she has fatty lumps all over her body, one is quite large. I against by better judgment broke down after 15 mins and got the vaccine. While waiting to pay I asked for the collection kit because ny dog needed to go. I collect specimen, come back in and ask lady at the counter how do I put the urine in the vial? She didn't acknowledge me, instead turns around and walks away. I will not be returning to this vet. I'm going back to All Friends in Norwich where I will be taken seriously about my concern about vaccinating my dog while she is sick. I'm including a photo of the dirty exam room. read more

The vet is caring and never pushes options on you. At my previous veterinary I always was talked down to or made to feel not responsible if care falls outside my budget. Never do they make you feel that way here. They acknowledged your love for your pet and that you're doing all you can for them. Sometimes you're even able to get discounted or free medications that have been donated back to the office. I will continue to bring all my pets here. read more

After going to a different Veterinary hospital that mishandled my previous cat's heart emergency, I found GCV when I was ready to one again adopt. I will never go to another Vet. Dr. Ross saved my Gracie's life when she went into unexpected renal failure. That was two years ago and Gracie is in perfect health now. Currently, they are helping me figure out what is wrong with my other cat Sarabi. Office staff is great as are all of the vet techs. I've used Dr. Banning when Dr. Ross wasn't available and she is also a wonderful vet. I recommend them highly! read more

While pet sitting for vacationing children a cat fight broke out resulting in one cat with an obvious leg injury. I was panic stricken because his vet is in Boston. My first call was to Groton Ledyard Veterinary and I couldn't be more grateful. Reilly had an appointment within an hour. Upon arriving it took less than 10 minutes to obtain his Boston records. By the end of the day Reilly was back home with us having had a dislocated elbow reset by Dr. Holdmeyer. The outside of the clinic might look well kept, but the inside looks terrible. The hallway was dingy and the rooms were dirty. There were smudges on the walls and the exam table looked filthy. This vet clinic will expect you to pay $50 upfront to just hold your appointment and I find that incredibly obnoxious. Perhaps other vets do the same, but I would imagine their facilities are much cleaner and more welcoming than this one. read more

I've used Groton Ledyard Veterinary Hospital for more than 20 years. They used to be really amazing, but the last few years we've seen a clear decline in customer service and cleanliness, and a substantial increase in their prices. Their waiting room remains closed and they still require masks even though everywhere else does not (with the exception of medical facilities for humans). They have raised their prices for services and medication considerably. You'll pay more here for basic veterinary care than anywhere else in Southeastern Connecticut. They up-charge medications by an average of 20%, so it's a lot cheaper to purchase prescriptions for your pet through Chewy. Lastly, their rooms are filthy dirty and stink. They don't seem to want to keep their facility clean and germs under control, so maybe that's why they insist on having everyone wear masks long after the State of CT determined it was no longer necessary. Definitely not impressed by this clinic, so we are actively searching for a more professional, reasonable vet clinic with better customer service and CLEAN facilities. read more

I've been going to this vet for YEARS. Very loyal customer and have had all of my pets seen here...and it was all fine until this year. I was quoted 135 for a female ESA spay, when I got my cat back they had charged me almost 500 DOLLARS for the most recent visit alone!!! They charged me over 100 bucks because the cat was over 7 months old...which would have been fine except they refused to spay her at 4 mos, 6 mos, and 8 mos. All of those visits to get her spayed costed well over 1,000 dollars. No one called me to tell me there was going to be extra charges and every vet in the area quoted me a MAXIMUM of 220 without the extra charges (mind you this vet wanted to keep her overnight where as Groton Ledyard Vet set her home same day and ended up costing twice the amount without an overnight stay). I love this vet and will not take my animals anywhere else. They helped me when my senior boxer mix got mast cell cancer, he loved them. They called to check on him a couple times a week while he was doing low grade chemo, and when it was his time to pass on they have a private comfortable room and allow to take as long as you need to say goodbye. They even helped me find a rescue puppy when I told them we were looking for a new addition. They've always been able to squeeze us in when my dogs have gotten sick and everyone is friendly and really are about the animals unlike other vets I have gone to in the past. My dogs love going in and everyone knows them by name as soon as we walk through the door. read more

I was really happy with Groton Ledyard when I moved here in 2019. COVID made things difficult in 2020, but we prevailed through. However, I saw a decline in their service as time went on. Now it's 2022 and I'm finally allowed back in the exam room with my dog, and I can see they haven't cleaned the rooms since 2020. My dog went in for an injured paw in 2021 and came out with kennel cough. She's not around other dogs and she was 15 at the time. Props to them for getting her in ASAP due to her old age, but they agreed she probably got kennel cough there, and still had me pay for the emergent visit and medication. My neighbor uses the same vet. His elderly dog went in for a check-up and came back with a cold (not kennel cough, but a cough, nonetheless). The cleanliness here is clearly not up to par. The last straw was when I took my dog in for an emergent visit because she pulled a muscle in her neck and she couldn't turn her head to the right, and thus could not walk straight. Of course the rush of adrenaline she got at the vet masked her symptoms. The (new) vet watched one second of the video I showed her and checked my dog for an ear infection. She would not listen to anything I said, including when I tried to describe when the symptoms started. She offered to do bloodwork, and I asked her to check the last time my dog had bloodwork done. They then took my dog in the back to "have another doctor look at her" and drew (unsuccessfully) blood anyway, without my consent. The doctor then told me my dog was not in pain. I played her a video of my dog whimpering in pain the previous night, which she did not listen to, because it wasn't captured in the first half second of the video. That night I sent a video of my dog crying in pain and sent it to the office. They never responded. One would think an office that cared about animals would respond and try to make things right. These people may have cared about animals a few years ago, but something changed in the last two years. I highly, highly recommend against this place now. Dr. Ross was great, and maybe she still is (I did not see her on our last visit). But if you get any other doctor, run. read more

I've used this vet for several years and am changing now due to several reasons, the vet is rude, brisk and condescending to her clients, I'm not even sure if she even likes animals because she never pets or greets the dogs, I've brushed it off in the past because I only have to see her yearly but now can't excuse it. the vet techs are nice , receptionists are not the friendliest either. The wait times are excessive sometimes waiting for an hr after your appt time. after getting a recent quote for a surgery trying to get info and clarification on an exorbitant fee which was like pulling teeth we have withdrawn our pets from this clinic and will be going elsewhere. I have taken my dog here since he was 2 months old. I bought him from a pet store and right off the bat they knew he was sick. They communicated what their plan was with his treatment and the prices of everything. They seem like they took all the correct steps (I'm not veterinarian but I did my research). My puppy was healthy again in no time due to receiving all the correct treatments he needed. I have been bringing him back here ever since. We recently had our cat treated by Groton Ledyard Veterinary Hospital. She is deceased as of this post. Recently she was treated for a parasite infection, but when she came home she walked with a limp on her back leg. She did not have a limp when she arrived. A few weeks later, she was treated for a kidney infection. After spending thousands of dollars on blood tests, x-rays, etc. we were told her blood tests were much better. However, she didn't want to eat or drink. She was on a large amount of medications, possibly, too much and we did question the amount of medications. We called and asked to speak with the doctor, but only spoke to the technicians. Called again because she was straining to poop. The next morning she was whining which she never did. We never received a call back from the veterinary doctor. We will never recommend Groton Ledyard Veterinary Hospital to our friends or clients. read more

Awesome staff! We are out of town and boarded our diabetic 16.5 year old cat. Due to outrageous costs in 2 days we had our friend pick him up. He had never given the cat shots, was feeling nervous, and the other place depleted our insulin! Groton-Ledyard Animal Hospital came to our rescue!!! I can't say enough about their kindness, swift same day appointment! They helped our "cat sitter friend" understand our cat, made him feel at ease!!! Provided the new vial of insulin, and the prices are very reasonable!! We have 4 animals, spend a fortune on their care... Not to mention I'm a worry wart pet momma! We have been going to this vet for years, all through the ownership changes. It is only recently that we have now decided to change hospitals after the service we have received from the support staff. This used to be a great vet to go to and I have gone to many vet hospitals in my lifetime. The staff used to be friendly and conscientious. That has all changed under the newest ownership. I am not even sure the new owner even knows how bad her staff really is. We were there the other day to get heartworm and tick medication for our 2 dogs. Surprisingly we were refused. We were told that "you let all of your dogs' vaccines expire, including rabies." We asked when did they expire and the snotty vet tech told us three months earlier on January 9 to be exact. Well ironically we were there on January 2 getting stitches removed from one of our dogs and there was no mention of any shots expiring, including rabies. They told us it is now our responsibility to remember when the shots expire. I said that is fine, but you have to notify your patients of this policy change. I asked when that policy went into effect, since all the years we have been going there we were mailed notices. She told us the mail notices stopped and you should have provided us your email address. I asked if you had told your patients this change in policy and the vet tech told me (exactly in her words) "It is not our responsibility to remind our patients when shots are due. You should have known we changed our policy." I asked "Did you send out notices, post notices in the office (I did not see any in the office or waiting room area) or tell patients during their most recent visits?" She said "It is not our responsibility to notify all our patients. We have too many and that is just too much work to do." Well I said "If ensuring your patients have the proper shots to maintain their health and the health of those in the community is not your responsibility, then what is?" Then to top this all off, just before we walked out she said you could schedule bordatello shots. Great, since we do not board our dogs. You will give them these shots but not schedule their required vaccines????? They refused to schedule appointments with our dogs to have their shots renewed. I am lucky I found all this out before something awful happened and before we renewed our dog licenses. I will admit I did not keep my calm, as the stupidity level of this girl was off the charts. We were fuming at this snotty girl's response to what seems like just a common sense business practice. Notify your patients when your policies change. It is not the policy change that angered us, it is the fact that they changed it without telling people, assuming we all have ESP. How many other patients has this happened to if they are too busy to tell us???? What else are they forgetting to do??? We unfortunately were left with no choice but to change vets since they no longer wanted to service us. Maybe I should have contacted the doctor, but I guess my temper got the best of me. My thoughts are still, if this is the bumbling staff we would have to deal with then goodbye to Groton Ledyard Vet. read more

I used a fake profile because I want to tell the truth. If I could give zero stars I probably would... This clinic gave my dog the canine version of MRSA. I know my dog can be difficult, she is a rescue and has been through a lot. The tech who took her into the back (chunky long dark hair)- I heard her say "stop being a b**** you're fine" to her, but then was all smiles when she came back into the room with her. They were unapologetic when I had to pay for extra vet visits to come back when my dogs wound wouldn't heal and besides the vet, my dog had been nowhere except home with me so I know she got the MRSA from there. (She cultured positive when I went to a different vet for second opinion who is WAY out of the way from where I live and the culture was VERY expensive). If this wasn't the closest vet to me and my dog didn't hate car rides I would NEVER come back. They were all fine to my face but after I heard what she said about my dog through the door, I don't trust any of them not to talk badly of an animal that isn't perfect. read more
