our dog has been to doggie day care since he was a puppy in Maine before we moved here. Spending over two hundred dollars on classes before he could even go to daycare made no sense as after four years our dog was very socialized and obedient . He was finally accepted to daycare after six weeks and the first day I picked him up they said he was barking., well so we're all the other dogs. this day care is not all that clean and totally smells like dog urine. the other two kennels he attended you could eat off the floors. read more

Took my pup to Stonington location for puppy daycare as well as taking their puppy training classes in Lyme on the weekend from age 3 mo to 6 mo and worked with him at home with what we were taught in class. The staff was always great and kind and I always received an overall good report about him with some concerns about reactive barking but it was always chalked up by the trainer and the staff as primarily being "a Shepherd thing". (He is a German shepherd puppy) My issue is with the owner Marge. She is quite possibly the rudest, most condescending business owner I have ever run into. I was nearing the end of his puppy daycare program and looking forward to getting him into the adult program but was approached by Marge about his horrible reactive barking and that he could absolutely not come to the adult program until this was corrected. This reactive barking was never even an issue until he started coming to daycare. They are kept behind a fence, directly behind the front door and so every time a person enters with their dog he barks and jumps. It is hard to address this behavior when he is doing it at daycare and not at home since it's a completely different environment, which leads me to the main question of, what is being done at daycare to correct the behavior?! I asked what do we do, reach out to a behaviorist? We're already doing training classes and he actually is doing really good in class even thought a couple dogs actually lunge at him in class which the trainer is aware of. The trainer actually praised us for his progress at the last couple classes. There seems to be a large disconnect between this owner and the staff and it's quite appalling and concerning but after spending so much time and money with their daycare and training and then being told quite literally he can't come anymore is just plain wrong. I also don't appreciate being called out by the owner with snide remarks like "you need to train him at home as well", and "I already spoke with the trainer and she has expressed to you her concerns" it's like I was being set up and called a liar. What did I do to deserve this?! First of all I have the trainers direct number and she thought not allowing him to continue was unusually harsh and did not speak to Marge when Marge said she did. I will save a long rant and just end with stay away from this place. They are expensive and I'm finding that quite a few other local daycares have better, more flexible programs and are actually averaging $10 cheaper a day and have better packages as well and a much better overall day-day program. The owner Marge could actually take some notes from her own staff about how to talk and treat a customer. She will, I'm sure, deny any of this and seem apologetic and that she cares about my dogs progress and that she never said these things. Very much it feels she is prejudiced against certain breeds (mine being one of them) and that I'm being forced out even though he is a great dog and plays great with the others. I've seen some reviews that this place is filthy, the dogs are in kennels, and the dogs are constantly getting kennel cough. I think they may have the wrong place because this place is AMAZING! I've been to both facilities: Stonington and East Lyme. Winston, my sweet dog, has gone to almost all of their training classes. We've been coming here since he was about 4 months old. We've been going to this facility for 1.5 years +/- and I love everything about it: clean facility, knowledgeable staff, safe environment, and the best part about doggy daycare, he's only crated for one hour and that's so they can eat their snack and rest. The rest of the time they're in an open space (outdoor/indoor) where they get to socialize with other dogs. Winston was "interviewed" to see how he does with different types of dogs before they assigned him a group. Their goal is to put dogs with the same temperament together, which, as a serious dog-mom obsessed with her sweet, pup, really put me at ease. Winston is non aggressive, so Im always worried he'll be bullied, but knowing he's with similar dogs, I can rest at ease. Another great fact, the staff is always with the dogs. I've seen them not only engage the dogs with enrichment toys, but they also work on their manners. I've seen Winston's progress from extremely excited he could barely wait until the gate was open, to sitting on command AND waiting until he's released into the play area. I can't say enough good things about this place. It's ran by dog lovers who encourage positive reinforcement. 10/10 recommend read more

We love My Dogs Place! We first heard about them from a flyer in our puppy package at our vets office. We started taking our dog, Nellie, to the puppy socials and she loved it. We could ask the trainers question and concerns we were having while there. We quickly enrolled her in puppy kindergarten and then basic manners. We were taught everything we needed to know to make our puppy the mature dog she is becoming. After continuing with the socials, we learned about a tricks and games class that we enrolled her in. We had a lot of fun with this course and Nellie loves showing it off (of course for a treat). We quickly enrolled her in daycare and couldn't be happier; she's so tired from playing all day. We enjoy MDP so much, we spend all most every weekend at the socials in EL and Mystic when we can. Thank you Jen, Marge, and all of the great staff at MDP! read more

Awful and unhealthy I would really like to have given this place high ratings as it is very convenient. However, that was the last thing on my mind now. Dark, depressing, overcrowded and bordering on abusive frankly. Rows of small dog carriers that dogs routinely get put in as time outs is not what I was expecting. Another reviewer had commented on his dog returning with kennel cough constantly. I would second that. I would be contacted half way through the day to be told that I had to take my dog away because he had a cough. I would take him straight to my Vet, only to be told that there is nothing wrong. Did he pick up kennel cough there though? Most certainly. The website for this place is misleading. I don't think I have ever seen bright toys and freshly painted walls. To not put too fine a point, it's a dump! There are other places around a Norwichtown pet resort for one - please take your companions there. Cleaner, more professional and healthy than this place. read more

I had a great experience with My Dog's Place! My boyfriend and I got a puppy in the fall and immediately enrolled him on puppy kindergarten there. Marge and Savannah ran the class and were so supportive to all the new dog owners and answered all questions and concerns we had with our puppies. My dog continued on to take Basic Manners, Beginner Agility and Tricks and Games. We have another dog at home who is very shy. Marge let us bring him to watch Agility class to gain more confidence and see other dogs. Our puppy started going to daycare once a week and the staff was always very friendly and clear with their routines and expectations of dogs and owners. Unfortunately we are moving out of the area but if we were staying I would have continued on with daycare and training at My Dogs Place! read more

Absolutely fantastic. A great dog resource for the area. The two owners are very knowledgeable and caring (licensed trainers and one's a vet tech). The staff is wonderful. They offer a great variety of obedience classes (including puppy kindergarten--essential for early socialization--and therapy dog, agility, etc.). They also have dog daycare during the week. Some top quality products are sold there (such as BRAVO raw foods), although it really isn't a store but rather a training facility that caries a few products. We've been taking our dogs there (4 of them over the years) for years and the place has been a blessing. This place is poorly cleaned and STINKS. Constant outbreaks of kennel cough. My dog became flea infested due to my poor choice of using this place--he NEVER had them prior to going there and he contracted kennel cough twice. I witness the owner hoarding numerous dogs inside a van while it was 90 F outside. AVOID THIS PLACE! Do NOT be fooled! read more

My Dog's Place is awesome!!! We bring out Shiba puppy there for Saturday socials, daycare once a week and classes. Every experience we have had here was amazing and the staff help us out so much. I'm not sure if this is too strong of a rating for My Dog's Place but I will give them the benefit of the doubt . My heart says 2 stars or less. Our instructor said at the beginning of class that dogs should not be stereotyped and that all dogs can be trained. However every week we are told our dog is a typical terrier. His excitability and aggression towards the other dogs has only escalated during the class and the instructor never offered solutions to help. I feel as though it has been a waste of time and money. I will look elsewhere for solutions., should I need them my dog only misbehaves in class and there were no suggestions to calm him, restraint only worsened the situation. My dog has clearly been stereotyped, I actually caught the instructor rolling his eyes at the assistant. Definitely NOT MY dog's place. read more

We've been taking our Golden Retriever there since she was a puppy. We love the Saturday drop-in socialization classes, which was great for getting her used to interacting with other dogs and people, and teaching her the rules of getting along. The staff are knowledgeable and very "present", and have given us countless pointers to help us get the most from our girl. The classes are full of great information, and are focused on rewarding the good behaviors we want. I love their heart-centered approach to all their activities. The absolute worst place I've ever been too. I had been to two lessons and my puppy learned absolutely nothing. Than I had a incident with the trainer who told me I needed to take my behind outside acting like I was a hour early when I was there at 5:56pm and the class starts 6:00pm. the lady was so rude to me and told me that I needed to go outside. My puppy was panting who has had seizures due to heat exposure. The people here are disgustingly rude. I was sweet and called and asked for a refund and I was told I needed to use it for another class and I am beyond furious. I REFUSE to step foot back into this place. The worst place ever. Do not expect your puppy to learn anything or to get any good customer service... Sadly I wished this place actually worked out but nope. The Owner was just as disgusting as the workers there. Definitely was told I needed too go outside. Was never offered inside A/C on this hot day and the owner is literally delusional! I had one of my great friends come with me and saw what a nasty mess this place was! read more

My dog and I have just completed our fifth class with My Dog's Place in Mystic. These classes in addition to weekly social groups at this facility have been truly enriching in many ways. Not only have the instructors and staff there been knowledgeable and patient with my often wild pup, but they are more than willing to help me implement the training I need to focus on with my dog. I look forward to going to my Saturday social group every weekend and I can't wait to start the leash walking class next month. The staff there seems knowledgeable. However..... When pressed they actually don't seem to know much; directing issues away and not knowing full answers to things. Or not seejimg to want tomanswer due to it perhaps beimg wrong or not the truth. The staff on the floor as I look on the website and the training schedule; aren't actually instructors at all. Not qualified and not trainers as there used to be. Some of the staff seem personable. However some are not at all and have a very poor personality and seeming lack of knowledge. Some actually are rude if you press too much or come at a "wrong" time. read more
