    Algonquin's Historic Village Hall

I never even knew this was a possibility but stumbled upon it, thanks to the power of Google, when I was looking for a venue that would accommodate 50-ish people for my son's baptism reception lunch. This place definitely won't break the bank by any stretch of the imagination. The only downside is that it's not much to look at. The hall is nice and airy, 2 walls of windows let ample light stream in, and a wall of floor to ceiling mirrors reflect the light. The floors are wood, and the walls are cream, which provide a nice neutral palette for decorating without worrying about clashing. There's a tiny little kitchen in the back corner, complete with microwave and a full-sized refrigerator. Obviously they don't cater or anything, which is both a plus and a minus. They don't even have a coffee maker on hand, so be prepared to bring your own. What they do supply, or at least claim to, are 6-8 tables and 40-50 chairs. What we found when we arrived were 3 tables and about 20 chairs. We never did locate the rest of the tables and chairs, but we made due with what we had. This place isn't fancy by any stretch of the imagination, but if you're looking for a nice facility to hold a lunch or a get-together that isn't in your home, Algonquin's Historic Village Hall is a great option. We will definitely keep this place in mind for our next party.

Located in the northern side of Crystal Lake by a few schools, this elegant little banquet hall looks like a mini mansion from the front with a giant room in the back. There's a stage in the room (for presentations, I guess?) and a full-service cash bar with free water and coffee. I'm not sure what the rest of the building looks like, but I'm really curious! A house? A meeting place? I was in love with the wooden ceiling of the main room, adorned with beautiful chandeliers, but my love stopped there. The rest of the place was pretty average. It was kind of too big of a space for the shower I went to, but I can see this being a good spot for a cozy wedding reception. While this place isn't quite my taste, it is definitely a beautiful spot to consider for a wedding, party, reunion, gathering, what-have-you.

My mother and mother-in-law met with the coordinator and were told prices. It wasn't a bad price (at first). Then when you added up all the additional costs, it turned out to be a couple thousand dollars more expensive than the place that we booked instead. I'm glad we ran away from the price because in the end, we paid less and had a better venue somewhere else.

It was a little confusing at first, since when we walked in, there were tables throughout the room. We weren't sure if we were supposed to sit down at one and be served or if they were just random tables where you could sit anywhere you want it. However, once we got our bearings around the event, we had a great time. We started shopping the makers market, which didn't have a lot of vendors, but had enough of different things to make it interesting. Then we had charcuterie cups filled with crackers, nuts, chocolate, fruit, salami, and cheese. A bit overpriced for what they were but glad to have something snackie. We also had a flight of mimosas, and finished off the day by making a beautiful Bouquet of fresh flowers. They did have pancake vendor as well. I didn't try it since I wanted a savory snack. I wish the food choices were advertised better. It was a small sheet of paper on a table. I didn't even know that the 3 additional food options existed until someone told me where I had to go to find this piece of paper. Other than that, it was a great time had by all in my group.
