What a relief to have such an important event go so smoothly both times. The first event I attended was a wedding and the second event was a wedding shower. Both events had a nice flow throughout the event with the food & drinks arriving on time and the temperature of the food was perfect. The manager (Joyce) of the Wedding Shower I attended on Sunday was so helpful through every stage of the Event. Joyce made sure that we were completely satisfied with everything from the seating arrangements to the temperature of the food & drinks. She never once disappeared or slacked off. I was helping to organized the event so she made my job super easy. I was glad that I chose Garden Terrace by the day's end. I will certainly choose Garden Terrace Banquets for any future events I have requiring a Banquet Hall. The ceilings are lower, which gives it a cozy feeling, and the room comfortably accommodates 200 people. Our wedding had about 130 people, and that felt very comfortable with 6-8 people per table. There are windows on two sides of the room, and a small patio for guests who needed to get some fresh air! The staff at Garden Terrace are great to work with and extremely flexible. They offer very basic chair covers and centerpieces to use at your event, but were willing to let me bring in my own centerpiece arrangements, as well as chairs. I told them how I wanted everything set up, and they made sure it happened. We went with a station buffet, and got to pick every kind of food for each station. We were also able to add in some premium spirits to our well-beverage open bar (Premium vodka & whiskey) without having to upgrade to another package which was a huge money saver. There is a small pond/gazebo to take pictures outside, and it worked very well for our 12 Person Bridal Party. The only not so stellar thing about this venue is that it is attached to a Park District Building. In the same hallway as the bathroom, there was an entrance to an auxiliary gym, so it felt a little less than formal. However, it was very nice to have the complete attention of the venue, without having multiple weddings going on like at most Banquet Halls. The pricing is very competitive, if not a smidge better than surrounding venues. If you don't want to break the bank, but want to keep your wedding in the suburbs of Chicago, consider Garden Terrace for your event!

It's not at all visible from street view or the main path... in fact, you actually have to walk down what looks like a maintenance path to a storage building to find it in Palatine Community Park, but once you're there, it's pretty cool. You can check the Park District website for performances, but don't expect anything too grand. Lots of stuff for kids and some battle of the bands stuff, but it's nice to have in the area for the youth population , and I like it because most days there's absolutely nothing going on here, so you can set up shop for a picnic, play frisbee, or just yell loud enough on stage to hear your echo... which is fun for both kids and adults, in case you're wondering. If you've got a kid who's in to acting or making their own plays, this would be the perfect place to take them and their friends on an evening or day that nothing is scheduled to play in the open-air amphitheater. I come by here a few times a week and there's never anyone else over here even trying to use the area... which could roughly fit 150-200 people via picnic-style seating.

This art festival takes place in Schaumburg on the grounds of the Al Larson Prairie Center for the…read moreArts. It's a festival that has vendors ranging from the more arts and crafts end of the spectrum to fine art. There were lots of different categories of art represented, including photography, painting, jewelry, and then of course different forms within each category of art such as oil, paintings, watercolor, etc. There were crafts, including handmade hats, knit and felted items and other textiles and fiber art. There were folks selling soaps, a booth was selling plants and moss art, and a couple booths selling fudge and another selling cookies and baked goods. They had quite a few food trucks as well, at least half a dozen of different types, so a little bit of something for everybody. It was pretty extensive. At first glance when you come through the main entrance, it seems it's just a few booths that they have use their parking lot to host, but it goes all the way towards the back of the building down by the little pond and the grassy area. There were well over 100 artists showcasing their works here. They had a local blacksmith here with an outdoor forge both selling and demoing, and per their booth they also host classes if you are interested in learning how to forge metal here in the suburbs. Inside the art center building, they had cocktails and wine and alcoholic beverages. I believe they also had children's activities, but I'm not sure where those may have been. They had at least two spots with musicians, as we passed by someone playing a steel drum and then in another area saw someone playing the hammered dulcimer as well. Parking--at least this year--was directly across the street at the school district building, though it's possible that's not typical (I thought I saw some reference to construction changing the parking situation). There were Schaumburg police officers directing traffic to allow people to safely cross the road at various intervals. We went early to avoid crowds and to have the easiest time with parking and were successful on both counts, and were here about an hour. I really liked that this art fair is a bit more of a home grown fair and not one of the ones from local production company, since I see some of the same artists at those ones and I like that none of the artists I saw today were familiar.

The stage can be rented out by local theater companies to be used for their production. Outside of the building is a bandshell where concerts are help during the summer. One the day that my husband and I were there, there were people taking wedding pictures and quincenera pictures on the grounds in front of the pond that is there. There are also sculptures and art on the ground to be seen and take pictures of. I highly recommend the Al Larson Prairie Center for the Arts.

I never even knew this was a possibility but stumbled upon it, thanks to the power of Google, when I was looking for a venue that would accommodate 50-ish people for my son's baptism reception lunch. This place definitely won't break the bank by any stretch of the imagination. The only downside is that it's not much to look at. The hall is nice and airy, 2 walls of windows let ample light stream in, and a wall of floor to ceiling mirrors reflect the light. The floors are wood, and the walls are cream, which provide a nice neutral palette for decorating without worrying about clashing. There's a tiny little kitchen in the back corner, complete with microwave and a full-sized refrigerator. Obviously they don't cater or anything, which is both a plus and a minus. They don't even have a coffee maker on hand, so be prepared to bring your own. What they do supply, or at least claim to, are 6-8 tables and 40-50 chairs. What we found when we arrived were 3 tables and about 20 chairs. We never did locate the rest of the tables and chairs, but we made due with what we had. This place isn't fancy by any stretch of the imagination, but if you're looking for a nice facility to hold a lunch or a get-together that isn't in your home, Algonquin's Historic Village Hall is a great option. We will definitely keep this place in mind for our next party.
