Gina was supposed to care for my parents dogs while they attended our wedding at the coast. With…read moreonly 3 weeks to go, she has decided to cancel because of the stairs in her home. My parents have an elderly schnauzer that needs assistance on stairs. If she cannot carry a small dog, then caring for dogs is not the right occupation for her. You should consider the safety of your pet when choosing this business, should anything happen to them while in her care, especially if she cannot handle lifting a small animal. This has ruined many of our plans as my parents can no longer come out and spend the whole week with us. They now have no one nearby to care for their dogs. It has added a great deal to the stress to the wedding.

The answer is NOTHING, at least nothing negative. From my first interaction with Gina, everything about this place seemed to fit perfectly what I was looking for. Back story, I have a 9yr old Lab who sometimes can get overwhelmed by being put into a kennel. He also has infrequent seizures. Gina (the owner) was amazing about answering all of my questions that I constantly asked thru email leading up to the weekend trip to Newport. Saturday came and we grabbed Duke and headed to drop him off at daycare. the way it's set up is awesome and you're greeted by the dogs. when we went inside to sign paperwork, it didn't even feel like we were leaving him at a daycare. Rather it was more like dropping him off at an old friends house. When came back to pick him up, we were informed that the daughter took the dogs in the forest to hike and play. WOW. when they got back, it was obvious that Duke had a blast. THE ABSOLUTE BEST DOGGIE DAYCARE I have ever been to. as we were driving away I couldn't help but be sad, wishing that this place was in Portland so we could take him here more often. Hands down the best product I spent money on this week, and we did a bunch of cool stuff. THANKS GINA!

Doesn't use seat belts or crates when transporting dogs, had an unprofessional communication style…read morewhen it comes to scheduling, and a poor attitude when receiving honest criticism about it. When she visited during our initial appointment she took the time to tell us very little about her business and how it stood out from others. She just kind of sat there for most of it unless prompted to say anything. I'm the client, you tell me, you sell me the service. You build rapport with me. It's not guaranteed. It's like a job interview. Why should I give you my $ or trust? I decided to give her a try because the services themselves looked good on the website and some people don't give the best first impressions; we are all human. I also need my dog walked more because I am disabled and can't do it enough myself; he is being trained for service work. During her visit, she could have told me all of the following, as it was apparently important to know for scheduling, but none of it was clear, especially on the web form. It claimed I had the appointment time I had asked for. I would have been fine with it saying I needed to pick from available slots or pick a "window" of time, but none of that was said and everything was open. I worked have worked as a production manager, tutor and counselor for several years having to make appointments with people of all kinds and managing a schedule, and the client should not be expected to do guesswork when it comes to scheduling. This is not a date or friends hanging out; it's a business transaction. "Blocks of time are how we do scheduling in our system since we have other visits, have to deal with traffic, etc. If you want a certain time we can plan on that in the future but it needs to be put in the notes when scheduling. We don't normally schedule non-petsitting visits on the weekends but I am available tomorrow, no availability at 9 though. Or we can look at next week, let me know what works!" So I'm paying her to make me guess? My time is valuable, too. I told her that this was not a good way to do business and that I would not be requiring her services, and she, like many business owners in Corvallis who can't take honesty, said "You're the only one in two years who has had a problem with the web form." Thicken that skin. There will be more, it's only been two years, especially if she doesn't fix the web portal's problems. Here was my response: "Being able to take constructive criticism about one aspect of your business shows maturity, and that was not what was just shown to me. Taking this attitude with a dissatisfied customer is poor customer service, and I will be sure to pass that on. A customer's experience is their experience even if you did your best, and I'm speaking from just as many years working people as you are, and often very hostile, angry people because I am a counselor and also worked in retail. Two years in a very short time for something to go wrong with a web form. There will be problems in the future because there always are, and just because no one else has said anything doesn't mean there isn't a problem. People are overly nice in Corvallis, even to the point of dishonesty. I would have never made it at my various jobs with the lack of scheduling clarity I have experienced here. In a big city with real traffic and more appointments to cover, plus a culture of telling it like it is, people would have been more critical than me. Trust me." Then she said: "I'm in a little bit of shock by your response, it seems a bit excessive. I didn't say thing negative towards you. You choosing a different provider is your choice and I respect that. I said good luck in your search because I hope you find a company that is more in line with what you and Wesley's needs are, if you took that the wrong way, I'm sorry you feel that way but that's not how it was meant." Some things she said at the end were fine, but they were undone by shifting blame back onto me instead of being willing to take a look at her business. Customer service is not about saying the right things and shifting the customer's feelings about a problem with your business back onto them. It's about taking responsibility, looking at problems, and making changes when necessary. Such as "I'm sorry you had this experience with my business. I will do what I can to make sure it doesn't happen in the future. Good luck." And then take an inventory about what went wrong and see what can be done, if anything. Even if a customer is being terrible and it's all their fault, shifting blame back onto them makes things worse. This was not my fault; this was me being honest about an actual problem that will continue if not fixed and I wanted to not get involved with it beyond pointing out. Try being a dog walker in Portland, Seattle, or San Francisco. People have to have a thick skin there and if you find me shocking, well, we have had very different life experiences.

Prior to the adventure, the owner, Bobby, met with me and my dog in person. He took the time to learn about my dog's personality and behaviors, and answered all of my questions. After meeting him I felt very comfortable letting him take my fur baby out and had confidence that it would go well. (I don't easily trust anyone with my dog, so this is saying a lot) Bobby was professional, kind, super knowledgeable about dogs and supportive. He took some great photos of Leia having a blast on her adventure which I loved. I would highly recommend this local business to anyone who wants their dog to go on adventures with a company who cares about and has experience working with our canine companions!

We used Tails and Trails 3 times with mixed results. Important to know- you create detailed notes with the owner (Jeff) on how to access your building, routines, where leashes are, etc., etc., when you have your introductory visit. Our instructions ask that the handler only feeds the cats their canned food, nothing else. 1st time, week-long trip (June 2024)- handlers were 2+ hours late regularly. While this wasn't the biggest issue, we don't have a doggie door and that level of lateness pushed the pup's bathroom breaks longer than we're comfortable. But, we liked the service offered and adjusted how often we scheduled handler visits for the second and third visits. 2nd time, 1 week of walks while both of us were gone for longer than 8 hours (September 2024)- Great! Annie (I'm not disclosing employees' full names for their privacy) had no problems and was very helpful. 3rd time, overnight away- 4 visits requested: Sat afternoon and evening; Sun am and afternoon (October 2024)- Day 1- We left the house at 8 am and scheduled feeding/walk visits for about 1:00 pm and 6:00 pm. Around 1:25 pm, Chloe (office manager) texted me to ask if we had scheduled for 7:00 am that day. When we said we hadn't, a communication between Chloe and a handler led to the 1:00 pm visit being skipped. We talked with Chloe that evening and she said the handler would roll the afternoon and evening visits together, apologized for the miscommunication between herself and the handler, and credited our account for the mistake (all great). The handler arrived around 7:00 pm. They had a difficult time accessing the building so Chloe texted us to say the handler would hang out for a little longer before leaving if they couldn't get access. Once they did get into the building, they couldn't find the food or leash. The access information, food instructions, and where the leashes are were all in the instructions. The handler fed the pets and took the pup for a 15-min potty break. Since we were only gone for a night, we didn't book anyone to stay overnight. We considered cutting the trip short and wish we had. Day 2- Oscar was our handler. We got notifications that both visits were completed and everything seemed to have gone smoothly. When we got home, a glass jar with cat treats had been taken from the closed closet and left open on the counter. When we got home, there were treats all over the counter and SHATTERED GLASS MIXED WITH TREATS all over the floor. All three cats had engorged stomachs. While Chloe apologized and said she'd speak with Oscar the next day, we didn't hear back from Tails and Trails' manager or owner. We'll be anxiously monitoring our furbabies for a few more days.
