Broken glass with food is not a good mix. I apologize for the length and I'm not usually a negative reviewer but... full experience: We recently relocated to Portland from Sacramento, Ca and were so excited to find a passionate group of folks to take care of our three cats and 70lbs dog in-(our)house. We used Tails and Trails 3 times with mixed results. Important to know- you create detailed notes with the owner (Jeff) on how to access your building, routines, where leashes are, etc., etc., when you have your introductory visit. Our instructions ask that the handler only feeds the cats their canned food, nothing else. 1st time, week-long trip (June 2024)- handlers were 2+ hours late regularly. While this wasn't the biggest issue, we don't have a doggie door and that level of lateness pushed the pup's bathroom breaks longer than we're comfortable. But, we liked the service offered and adjusted how often we scheduled handler visits for the second and third visits. 2nd time, 1 week of walks while both of us were gone for longer than 8 hours (September 2024)- Great! Annie (I'm not disclosing employees' full names for their privacy) had no problems and was very helpful. 3rd time, overnight away- 4 visits requested: Sat afternoon and evening; Sun am and afternoon (October 2024)- Day 1- We left the house at 8 am and scheduled feeding/walk visits for about 1:00 pm and 6:00 pm. Around 1:25 pm, Chloe (office manager) texted me to ask if we had scheduled for 7:00 am that day. When we said we hadn't, a communication between Chloe and a handler led to the 1:00 pm visit being skipped. We talked with Chloe that evening and she said the handler would roll the afternoon and evening visits together, apologized for the miscommunication between herself and the handler, and credited our account for the mistake (all great). The handler arrived around 7:00 pm. They had a difficult time accessing the building so Chloe texted us to say the handler would hang out for a little longer before leaving if they couldn't get access. Once they did get into the building, they couldn't find the food or leash. The access information, food instructions, and where the leashes are were all in the instructions. The handler fed the pets and took the pup for a 15-min potty break. Since we were only gone for a night, we didn't book anyone to stay overnight. We considered cutting the trip short and wish we had. Day 2- Oscar was our handler. We got notifications that both visits were completed and everything seemed to have gone smoothly. When we got home, a glass jar with cat treats had been taken from the closed closet and left open on the counter. When we got home, there were treats all over the counter and SHATTERED GLASS MIXED WITH TREATS all over the floor. All three cats had engorged stomachs. While Chloe apologized and said she'd speak with Oscar the next day, we didn't hear back from Tails and Trails' manager or owner. We'll be anxiously monitoring our furbabies for a few more days. read more

But this puppy was challenging for my wife. So, we decided to give her a much needed respite and hire T&T for three days a week. She comes back worn out from their 45 min adventure. We scheduled for 4 cat visits in the evenings while we went on a cruise while having a family member coming in the mornings. We had no cell phone service only wifi and email communication while on the ship. The first evening I emailed them when they were at 2 hours late asking to contact me asap. The manager Chloe responded apologizing that the order was entered wrong for that day and she was sending Andy over. He arrived at 8pm. This tells me that had I not contacted them, they wouldn't have come that day. She said they would credit me for that visit. I emailed back and asked her to please confirm the 3 following days and I got no response. The next morning I emailed her again to get clarification and explained that we were on the ocean and that it was very important to hear back from her. And still, no response. Not until Andy came that evening 2 hours late, again. I spent the entire day stressed out. However, I felt that if I were to complain that they might just cancel the rest of the visits. That was a terrible feeling. The other 2 days Andy was on time. And while there he did perform the basic tasks. But didn't show any genuine affection to our cat. Thank goodness our ring camera was working. It was the only way we knew what was happening at all. I found this company thru the Yelp app. We were traveling to Portland for Father's Day weekend and needing help with our labradoodle while we attended brunch. They have a really cool service called a ride a long. From my first initial reach out via yelp, they have been very prompt and professional:) I worked with Lexi to find something that would fit our needs. She scheduled our dog with a very nice walker named Bailey. She was able to meet us at our hotel. Since we are from Seattle , we were very nervous about a stranger taking our Luna for 3 hours. But Bailey was prepared, and we could tell she loves her job :) our Luna loved her! I actually posted a review for this business last year, which has now mysteriously disappeared - I'm taking the time to re-write my review because my experience was so horrible I want to warn others. I used this business as in-home sitters for my cat in September of 2022. I needed a cat sitter for a full week at fairly short notice (less than a month in advance) - after almost two weeks of searching, this company was basically my only option. I decided to try, much to my eventual regret. From the first email, I knew they weren't responsible or professional - they are extremely disorganized, no communication even among management, managers have only the slightest grasp on their independent contractors schedules and availability, etc., etc. The Meet and Greet further alarmed me (very "flying by the seat of the pants" feeling, and obviously just promising me anything I asked for without knowing if they could actually do it), but by that time it was too late to go with someone else and I just hoped it would be ok. It wasn't. In summary, pet sitters were either repeatedly late or didn't show up at all. I was supposed to be on my first vacation in 18 months, and was in a different time zone - I was so nervous that they would just leave my cat to starve that I woke up at 5am every morning just to check on whether people were showing up (a good thing too as twice sitters just didn't show up - I had to call and text the managers repeatedly to get a replacement person sent). The company didn't provide the correct information for sitters to access the key lock box (luckily one called me to ask about it, and I was able to change the incorrect info in their online system) and were basically all around awful. Thank goodness there was one responsible sitter who ended up doing most of the visits and clearly took good care of my cat - if not for her, I don't really know what would have happened to him. When I arrived home after a very long flight my house was an absolute, stinking mess. They didn't clean up the cat food dishes (all sitting in the sink, crusted with old food), didn't take out the garbage or empty the Litter Genie, didn't sweep the floor (even though my cat made a mess with his cat grass - soil and grass all over the floor and rug) - I'm not sure what they actually did do for two visits per day. Most importantly my cat was lonely and completely freaked out by being neglected for a week. I was so traumatized by the experience that I haven't been able to trust anyone to cat sit and haven't gone away even overnight since then. The management did reach out to me a couple of weeks after this all happened - they offered lots of excuses and offered me a partial refund, but no apology and nothing that even started to make up for everything that happened. Bottom line, they endangered my cat, they caused me extreme stress, and they should not be allowed to work as pet sitters. Tails and Trails is a complete disaster - avoid them at all costs. read more

We recently used Tails & Trails when we had to leave town for the weekend and could not be happier with their services. It can be extremely nerve-racking leaving your pets with someone new but also to open your home home to someone you don't know can be down right SCARY. With that being said, we are so so soooo happy with the services we received! The owner came out personally and met us and all 3 of us pets and put us at ease that they would be in good hands. Lexi sent us photos of our boys twice a day, made sure they had their walks and were fed and got their cuddles in. After a few worrisome experiences using friends to watch our two dogs (one of whom is elderly, special needs, and requires a strict medication routine) my new wife and I decided to use a professional service when we went on a 12 day trip for our wedding. Tails & Trails alleviated all the stress we normally feel when we leave our "children" at home. We received notifications every time the sitter entered or left our house and were emailed three times a day with updates, pictures of the dogs, GPS maps of where they went for walks, and even a general description and location of where they went to the bathroom. Our sitter, Josh, was always available through text or phone when we were really missing them and needed an extra update. During his almost 2 week stay at our house, Josh made friends with our neighbors and left an overall positive impression of himself and the business throughout our neighborhood. We even returned to a cleaner house than when we left and we are pretty sure he bathed and brushed the dogs before we got home. Truly amazing. Overall, Tails & Trails provided an amazing, professional service and reduced what could have been a huge stress during an already stressful few weeks. Not impressed with their customer service or spotty communication with owner. Jeff came by to 'meet' our pets and stayed for an extensive visit, and we were assured that someone will be matched with our cats. I assumed this would be one person who would be our consistent sitter so that we don't have strangers coming and going into our home. Email communication with Jeff when I had additional questions was inconsistent and I couldn't figure out who to contact by phone. During our trip we suddenly had an emergency and needed to return sooner than expected. I tried to go into PetCheck to cancel the next afternoon's pet visit but couldn't find a way to do that online. I called first thing the next morning and the phone was answered by a sitter who was currently in our house (weird). I asked to cancel the afternoon visit since we'd be returning early and the sitter processed our request-- never telling us that we'd be charged in full PLUS TIP for the visit. I contacted the owner to dispute this charge and he said that it was within the 8 hour window which didn't allow cancellations. I tried to explain that we were fist time users of the service and didn't know about that policy, it was also odd that they didn't have a customer service phone number or anyone to speak to about this. No response from owner. Unprofessional and not very polite. We will not recommend this service to anyone or use it in the future. read more

Wife and I just moved to Portland about a month ago an were dreading finding a new place to board our senior pup and cat. We decided to forego the long drives to pick up/drop off and give in home pet-sitting a try. Jeff (owner) was extremely attentive and offered to do a meet and greet to see our home and meet the pets. After a great experience we decided to move forward. We were able to meet our sitter/walker, Josh, a couple days before our trip as well which was great! During our trip we received a couple texts from Josh communicating when he would arrive or leave for the day. He was friendly, attentive and you could tell he cared for the pets! All in all, a first great experience with T&T. Look forward to using them again in the near future! PS - for those of you with cats that do not do well at boarding this was a game changer. We are so happy with T&T! Our Stella is very sweet, but is VERY apprehensive of strangers or those she doesn't know well, especially when they are entering our house. The T&T team have been so patient and kind with her on every single walk, are willing to go slow and even will spend a little time in the house with Stella until she is ready to let them put on the leash and head out the door. I love seeing the photos and reading the walker's notes afterward too, they are always so sweet. I love everything about this service! This gives me peace of mind while I am at work that my little one is getting proper attention. The walker/sitter scans into your apartment so you know exactly when then enter and they scan out when they leave. They also send you comments about the service, "Great walk today with new friend Wally. They were adorable today. They played, walked and were petted along the Greenway Trail. She handled all of her business. and she is watered as well." This is more than my coworker's get about their kids in daycare. I always look forward to the messages and photos from the appointment. I know my pup is being well cared for. They also include a gps map of the route they walk. I referred a friend when he was stuck out of town for an additional 3 days with no one to care for his cat. Dog Gone Walking lost our puppy. Yes, you read that correctly. Allegedly, our dog slipped out of his harness and took off running during a walk. Our puppy's harness, when properly placed and hooked, is physically impossible for him to take off. There are two separate clips that require opposable thumbs for removal, which our puppy decidedly does not have. To add insult to injury, Dog Gone Walking did not inform us that they lost our puppy for more than 2 hours, which is plenty of time for a dog to venture just about anywhere. They informed us of the loss only after we inquired about our puppy's whereabouts, which suggests they were trying to cover their tracks and hoping to find the puppy without having to inform us. In the end, the one thing that a dog walker cannot do is to lose your dog. And Dog Gone Walking did just that. Miraculously, we managed to locate our dog, thanks to the goodwill of a construction worker who happened to stumble upon him and take him to a neighborhood home. Had my wife not randomly approached a group of construction workers and inquired about a missing dog, we may never have seen our puppy again. read more

Oberon is a bit of a medical project. So, Angie I both are equally excited to share information about him! The owner Jaimee is super accommodating in scheduling! I can cancel and or request a walk the same morning! This rocks my world, because I sometimes get a last minute long lunch and love coming home to Oberon!
