Who doesn't have trees on the brain right around Thanksgiving? We went the Saturday after and it was a perfect experience, from the selection of trees to the helpful staff to the incredibly low price of $65 per tree. We have a great room with vaulted ceilings in a chalet-style home and have wanted a huge tree since we bought the house 2 years ago. Our first Christmas in this house was last year and we bought what we had thought was a big tree, at 8 feet, but it looked tiny! We had bought it at a lot and the biggest trees were so expensive. I couldn't believe that ALL trees are the same price at Abel's! It's my first time going to an actual farm, so I'm not sure if this is standard. One of the workers asked us what we were looking for and directed us towards the blue spruce area because it had the tallest trees. There is a LOT to choose from here. We found our perfect enormous tree in minutes. What you need to know: -cash or check only -pay first and get a ticket -they provide hand saws but will allow you to bring your own. We brought a chainsaw (not encouraged, but allowed, heheheh) -there are handcarts but you may luck out like we did and someone may drive up to bring your tree down for you -they will wrap up your tree and strap it to your car Finally, tip those dudes! They deserve it. This is a novel concept to me, but apparently some folks actually tailgate here. There's a special lot for that. Now go and get your tree! It's not even 12/1 and with the way everything is going this year, you deserve that perfect tree to make the holidays at home the best that they can be.

The quality of these two products is basically unavailable elsewhere. The hot dogs are from grass fed beef and produced without nitrates. Out of this world flavor. The bacon? I bake off in the oven until crisp on parchment paper. Normally, I'm left with a ton of grease and very little bacon. With Kiernan Farm bacon, there was so little grease I almost didn't have to wash the baking sheet. Crisp and delicious. Highly recommended place to purchase from at local farmer's markets if you get the chance.

I'll never be a vegetarian but I try not to eat red meat except for grass-fed beef from trusted sources such as Kiernan (the occasional Shake Shack burger notwithstanding). In 2000 they purchased an unremarkable plot of 15 acres that was densely covered with trees. With the guidance of landscape architect Cynthia Rice and the impact of one extreme storm, they reshaped the landscape into one that supported the growing of fruit, vegetables, and herbs. Gradually agricultural structures that suggested a much longer history were thoughtfully positioned across the landscape, complementing the home they had designed and built on the site. CONCEPT: In the end a non-profit, Stonewood Farm, was established. Per their vision, the small scale farm efficiently produces food that is donated to local Meals-on-Wheels, senior housing facilities, and a food collection site in neighboring Dover Plains. What was once an unremarkable site is now an admired point of reference of what is possible with time, effort, and patience. EXPERIENCE: During growing season the farm is open to the public on Friday mornings, during which produce and baked goods can be purchased. Eastern trail: The main trail I took was red, which does a big loop around the perimeter, 2.91 miles along with other trails in between; yellow, white, blue, and green, which have shorter distances and reconnect with the red. I was thrilled to take in everything all around, plus a nice view at the overlook and a bench. Some areas are on the steep side, and also muddy - especially after heavy rain. Also, where the trails turn off, there is no signage indicating the color until you get further into the trail. Should be addressed definitely. Western trail: I only went on the green trail for a short distance, only finding some muddy spots, and ended up turning around. I have to explore more on my next visit. A parking lot is provided on the western side as well, which I have not encountered yet. **Also, on the https://dutchessny.gov/Departments/Parks/Docs/tmsButtercup.pdf website, the map is out of date. Rely on the map here at the park.** A wonderful discovery for sure!

It comes from cows you see as you drive up, which graze in the fields all around you. The milk taste and richness varies a bit, season to season, as it should. If you go at the right time of day, you can see the cows getting milked. Here's how to buy milk: pull your car up to the milk sign, go in the door, choose your milk from the fridge, and pay with exact change. As of last week, it was $4.50 for a half gallon. That's not cheap compared to grocery store milk, but it's on a whole nother level. They also have chocolate milk and eggs. The chocolate milk is good, but I think you lose the taste of fresh milk. I have not tried the eggs, which I think come from another farm nearby.
