We purchased a new-to-us Subaru a few weeks ago from KFS and almost all of the experience was excellent. We showed up on a Saturday afternoon and test drove half a dozen different cars before settling on the one we wanted to buy. The whole time, the salesperson was patient, professional, and knowledgeable, and never pushy or disingenuous. We ran out of enthusiasm for test driving more cars way before he did. When we decided that we wanted to go home and sleep on it before making a decision, the salesperson was surprisingly understanding and not pushy. We came in the next morning and, after some negotiating, bought the car. The negotiations were similarly friendly and non-confrontational and we felt like we received a fair-to-better-than-fair deal. Our only criticism had to do with the person who handled the paperwork for the purchase. They did come across as pushy and aggressive with their attempts at up-selling. We also determined later that some of the information they gave us was misleading or incorrect. One additional note is that the dealership played exclusively Christian praise music the whole time we were there. This is apparently the owner's decision. read more

This is a very long overdue review, but for those who are in the market for a new vehicle, I'd suggest a different dealership. Unfortunately, I regret ever coming to Ken Fowler. My husband and I just had a baby, so we were in the market for a bigger vehicle. Online I found a Chevy Tahoe we were interested in so we went to check it out. Upon arrival, we met Alberto, one of the sales representatives at the dealership. I told him I wanted to check out the Chevy Tahoe they just got in and he told me he can't sell that to me because it smelled like cigarette smoke but that we could take a look at the other vehicles on the lot that were similar. Now that I look back - I appreciate the thought, but it is weird he didn't even bring out the car for us to make our own judgment. After looking at the other cars they had - we decided on a 2017 Chevy Tahoe Z71. We purchased the vehicle on 7/1/24. Within one week, I noticed that the transmission was slipping! Transmission issues on a vehicle you just bought is the LAST thing you want to find out after you just made a big purchase of over 30k. I reached out Alberto on 7/10/24 to discuss bringing the Tahoe back, in hopes that they would make this right. On 7/12/24 The Chevy Tahoe was brought into the service department. We explained our concerns and they ran their diagnostics. They concluded that the Tahoe was in Auto 4WD and that's the reason it was driving weird. We never set the car on Auto 4WD, but even if it was accidentally switched over, that shouldn't cause the transmission to slip? We picked up the car and later that night we still had the same unresolved issue. Nothing was fixed! On 7/16/2024 We came back to Ken Fowler. This time the service representative asked if I wanted to take a drive with the mechanic since the car wasn't throwing any "codes". On this drive, the mechanic confirmed that the transmission seemed to be slipping around third and fourth gear. Ken Fowler was going to keep the Tahoe and reach out to the manufacture to see if this was something that was covered under warranty. They didn't have any rental cars available for us. I explained that I needed to commute to work in the morning - so the service representative suggested I take the Tahoe back until GM Motors replied?! I found this extremely unprofessional and unsafe. Did I mention my husband and I just had a baby? 7/18/2024 The service department called to tell me that they weren't going to replace the transmission, but were going to replace the valve body and that it would be ready in a week. 7/19/2024 Received a call the next day that the car was ready for pickup and that they didn't end up replacing the valve body. They replaced bolts within the valve body that were missing. Uhh...where did they go and how long were they missing? Basically, they slapped a small band-aid on a much bigger problem. We picked up our Tahoe and surprise surprise...STILL SLIPPING. I called Ken Fowler and asked if I could speak to the owner, but was redirected to the sales manager Vern. I explained how upset I was about the entire situation and that I felt they should either replace the transmission or take the car back. Vern told me to come in the next day and he would "see what he could do". When I requested to speak to the owner, he told me it was unnecessary because if they decided to take the car back - that would be his call. The next day I came to meet Vern, but he wasn't there and had left early for the day. Are you kidding me? This time I spoke with Vic, who I could tell genuinely felt bad about the entire situation. We agreed that I would bring the car in the next morning for another drive with a mechanic, and so I could speak to Vern. The next day was the fourth time we had brought the car back to Ken Fowler. I had another ride with the mechanic, and during the ride the transmission slipped. When we got back from this awkward excursion, the mechanic asked if he could take ANOTHER ride with his manager. Seriously? We sit down to have a conversation with Vern who tells me that the mechanic said THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. I couldn't believe it! I asked to speak to the owner again but was told he wasn't available and there was nothing they could do because the car was perfectly fine. I was completely flabbergasted and upset that I left the conversation in tears. My husband sent videos to Vern of the transmission slipping, to which he never replied to us. So there we were stuck with a car that had a faulty transmission. Also never received plates or registration from the DMV. When I called Ken Fowler about that they said the DMV lost the paperwork. Interestingly, the DMV said Ken Fowler never even initiated a transfer of title. Fast-forward to December 2024: TRANSMISSION FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. We didn't even have the car for six months. In hindsight, I would've rather had the Tahoe that smelt like cigarettes. RUN! DON'T WALK FROM KEN FOWLER! read more

They tried to charge my wife over $1000 for an "oil leak". Took it to a local mechanic and it was literally just a little moisture on the engine with no leak in site. Yeah, not going back there. How they can rob everyday people who are already struggling is diabolical. read more

Not really mine but my mom's. She was a first time used car buyer. She was so happy that she was able to do this and all on her own. Well she didn't even have her car a month. And yes I know it's a used car, and I know dealerships like this do huge safety checks. However I feel that they let this car skate out of there at its minimum requirements. The front tires were just about out of the allowed spec of different tread depth on the front tires. So she spent about $600 on new tires so that way it did not mess up the power train. There was a grinding noise coming feom the back brakes. She decided to replace all of them along with tires so she knew she was all good. The rear pads had a chunk missing from the ceramic pad and we also slightly glazed over either from over heating or just did a pad slap and did not clean the rotors before installing pads. W3 started to notice a clunking sound from under the driver side. Checked the front struts and the boots were off and slightly leaking. The lower control arm on the driver side is so stressed cracked and the ball joint is cracked that that has also contributed to the noise. Now here is where my issue lays in all of this. 1 the salesman made the comment on the phone with her to get her an appt to purchase the car because he "wanted it off his lot" 2 giving her an appt day and time the car wasn't even ready for her when she got there she had to wait almost an hr. 3 if something is barely skating by the safety check, fix it. Someone put thousands down. And now had a large car payment. You are a reputable dealer and your letting someone drive away only to have to dump about almost 2000 in parts and that's not including labor. 3 She called them and they told her that a local shop is only telling her that to get the sale. (When in fact I work with these shops myself and know the mechanics personally and they showed me all of these issues) told her to bring it to them and she would talk to her manager about the possibility of looking it over and they said they would have to charge her the 195 Diagnosis fee because they have video of them inspecting the car and everything was fine in the video. We feel that they let this issues slide to get her to bring her car back to them for repairs at the 195 an hr fee plus the outrageous price of parts for her to spend almost half of what she bought the car for in parts and labor. I wish there was a way to post the pictures of the parts we replaced. I'm just glad our local shop and mechanic helped us out and my favorite parts store was able to get us the parts we needed with a lifetime warranty to make sure she isn't driving an unsafe car or mess up her drive train. The only reason they get to stats is because the dealership was clean. ​ read more

Dishonest crooks - DO NOT PURCHASE HERE! If I could give them less than 1 star, I would. I purchased a 2013 Toyota Rav4 here in 2021. As I drove off the lot, the vehicle started having transmission issues. I brought the vehicle back to them to figure out what was going on. The vehicle needed a new transmission. After weeks of going back and forth with them, they said they would replace the transmission with a brand new one. BUT THEY DIDN'T! They put a USED transmission in without telling me, and that transmission didn't last 45k miles before it started having issues. I've now been waiting 11.5 weeks on them to even send me details about the transmission they put in my vehicle to try and resolve the issue. Their employee, Evie Otto, continues to assure me that someone will get me the information, but no one has even given me a reason for why they haven't supplied me with the information I've requested. This place is clearly only trying rip people off. I will be telling everyone I know to avoid this place at all costs! And I plan to get a lawyer involved at this point, because this is ridiculous. They're just so damn slow. I needed a simple oil change and I'm writing this review on the second hour of waiting. Most People have things to do and a 3 hour oil change is never on that list. My entire afternoon is ruined and I'll have to run the rest of my errands on Saturday because they're just chatting and laughing it up at the service desk with zero sense of urgency. UPDATE: I finally get my car back and there's a warning sign on the dash. So I had it in for a service and they literally don't look at the dashboard while they're servicing it. Edit: After this review Jeff Fowler got in contact with me and went out of his way to help me get my oil changed and my infotainment system fixed, which i appreciated. And I changed my review, but after calling him back about getting some of the other stuff taken care of he never returned my calls. And now i have spent a lot of my time dealing with this warranty company to try to get some of my money back. With this amount of frustration, an oil change and a software update just doesn't cut it for the blatant lying and scams that i experienced here. As a local business owner who makes such an effort with each and every customer, I am far from impressed. My wife left a review, but after the issues I have had here, I felt they needed to be shared. Shame on me for being so trusting, I have heard such good things about fowler. Well here we go, after reviewing all of my documents later than i should have after being denied coverage on my dent defence that I purchased i looked through all my paperwork. They pulled a switcheroo on me at the last minute and increased the agreed upon purchase price by $470. They flat out lied about the terms of the extended bumper-bumper warranty i bought, I was told 10 years, 125k miles... Yea no its 6 years 125k, which doesn't even make any sense. The car comes with cheap yokohama tires that popped and became unfixable with less than 2k miles on the car. I was told i was SOL, and had to buy 4 new tires.... I was told my first oil change was free, yea service told me it wouldn't be. Have left at least 4 messages with the service department, no call back. My infotainment system has to be factory reset almost weekly. Sure this is subarus fault, but the only way to fix it is to drive over an hour to fowler, and after all this i never want to step foot in that service department again. I don't know if they used to be good, and now they suck or what the deal is, but i was told to go here, and i really wish i hadn't. Lesson learned I guess, there are no "good" or "honest" dealerships. read more

After issues with the brand new tires that they refused to do anything about, tons of software issues with the media player in the car that haven't been resolved, and refusal to fix a dent because that particular location "isn't part of" the complete bumper to bumper warranty with dent removal package that we paid a fortune for, and a few other issues, it has been one of the worst decisions we have made. I recently relocated here in Ukiah and my 14 forester need a 100k mile service. Before turning my car in at my appointment time I told the service advisor that my car has been making these squeaking sound seems to be coming from the rear end. He confirmed that as he was pulling my car in since it was making the same noice. When I come to pick it up (about 4-5h later) , the service advisor told me that whoever it is thats from the service department took my car out for a test drive and couldn't hear any noise. I was bit upset but tried to be reasonable since these things tend to happened. After paying and waiting for them to pull my car out, I can hear the same noise all the way from the storage as they pulled my car up to the front of the service department. They now admitted that my car did make the noise but did not offer to do anything about it. Just said if its getting louder bring my car back. After that, they conveniently gave a flyer about their trade in program which is the final blow to me The bad review is about a couple of things: Seemed to me that this dealership is only interested in charging you for big service (they were very quick when giving the quote for servicing the front and rear differential along with the transmission). But not really wanting to address other issue you complained about the car The trade in program. I understand this is business, but giving me that flyer after offer nothing to fix my current issue with the car make me feel like they dont want to fix my car and only interested in selling me new one I have own several subaru. 3 to be exact and chose this dealership to service my car bc its local but I will have to find another one even if that means traveling outside of Ukiah since I now am not comfortable with the way this dealership handles their customer. Preston assisted me. I went there to purchase a new grey Crosstrek, after three hours testing various Subarus, seems he only wants to sell what's on the lot. I was told he can't get any 2021 or 2022 Crosstrek s within a 400 mile radius. The closest one was in Oregon. He never gave me a quote to have one ordered. He did give me quote on a trade in price on 2014 VW Jetta in good shape, on the top of the trade in value sheet said $5,939.00, then wrote in pen on the bottom, $2,000.00. he said he would have to replace the tires on the Jetta. The bluebook price is from 8,000.00 to 12,000.00. he seemed more interested in belittling me, I'm a woman, and being right. I will not spend my money where they treat me in that fashion. This post is about Joanna Reed (sales person) and Daniel Sanchez (sales manager) at Ken Fowler Subaru in Ukiah and the best new car buying experience possible, yes that dreaded exercise of buying a new car. I researched and knew exactly what I wanted and what a reasonable price should be. I went to the closest dealer hoping to keep my business local, did my test drive and listened to the sales pitch. The price on the new car was too high and they offered way to little for the trade in. I then called every dealer within 150 miles and asked for their best price on a factory order configured just they way I wanted it. Many were cooperative, The closest dealer was not. The best was Joanna at Ken Fowlers Subaru in Ukiah. They gave me the best price by hundreds of dollars from the other lowest price (thousands from the local price) and offered me $2,500 more for my trade in (which I sold privately for $1,500 more). I bought the car over the phone in a few minutes. The first time I set foot at the dealership was to pick up the car. No pressure, no games, just straight answers from good people and an extremely good price per Consumer Reports and Kelly Bluebook. I bought a used 2019 Suburban, I'm in San Francisco and they were nice enough to deliver it from Ukiah. I test drove the car and had my body shop guy Paco at D&K Collision inspect the car and he said it looked perfect. The car hadn't been any serious accidents. We settled the transaction, but when the car heated up I noticed that it smelled like cigarettes and that I was bummed out. I called the dealership and spoke with the owner Ken Fowler, he offered to come pick up the car and give me money back and that impressed me that he would offer to do that. I said that ideally I wanted to keep the car and that I would work on the issue and he said great, but first and foremost he wanted me to be satisfied with my purchase. I'm a small business owner and I know that the most important thing is happy customers and we go out of our way to make sure they are satisfied with the experience of dealing with us. So I talked with Ken told him that I was going to have car detailed and I used an ozone generator replaced the cabin air filter that he sent me and I also sprayed Lysol in the air ducts in the car. It worked perfectly. I sent Ken Fowler copies of my receipts and he reimbursed me for my efforts. I read his yelps and was surprised by several negative reviews. Ken is a stand up guy and he was true to his word. I'm a happy customer! read more

Pressuring, predatory, manipulative salespeople. No COVID precautions followed (even though I asked sales boy to wear a mask). Sales boy could not seem to keep it above his chin, let alone above his nose. Most were not masked in business. Yet they had signs and messaging stating they follow pandemic procedures? Came in on a Saturday wanting to look at a car I was emailing receptionist about. Was not interested in buying anything that weekend. I made that clear from beginning. I drove into lot to put eyes on the car. Sales boy convinced me to give quick test drive. Could not answer any of my questions about the car - obviously did not know what he was selling. He then tried to get me to sit down to understand **possible** financing. I had plans so I left, came back, was handed off to another sales boy that again tried to push a sale on me. I mentioned **several** times I was not comfortable or interested in buying the car that day (even though I was very interested). I don't know the process of buying cars well but I know when I'm being forced into a poor sale and wanted a second opinion from a friend. His response was incredibly pushy and lacked any sort of detailed information for what I was actually asking from him, financing specific. Would continuously bring up "didn't you want this to be a solo sale" (since I had mentioned I was buying for myself, first time). Manipulative verbage used rather than actually giving me info on the financing I was asking about. would constantly turn around on me rather than honestly answer question. Anyway... mulled it over for the night and decided I didn't want to give this dealership my money after these incredibly uncomfortable experiences. I sent a text the next morning respectfully saying I would look elsewhere, thanked them for their time. This is when it became even more predatory/manipulative. I was sent a long text why I need to buy there and stay loyal to the local business? Then was called 2-3 other times, texted 2-3 times by a **different** sales boy..... all within 9AM on a Sunday. Stating I had to call them now? Give them an explanation? No, I don't. I get car salespeople are pushy, but this was another, inappropriate level. Would not wish this experience on anyone. Did not feel supported, understood, felt as if I was signing over my current car and possibly signing up for an overpriced, poor car payment because they knew I was naive to the experience. Moral of story: Buyer, stay away if this is your first time buying a car from a dealership. And Fowler, don't refer to the women working the front desk as " desk girls" when you're trying to sell a car to a professional woman. Heads up, it's not the 50's. read more

This place is a rip-off or a front. Can't really figure it out. On the outside they're a fancy shiny high end car dealer, when you get working with them it's a joke. $412 to diagnose the car. So exactly nothing was fixed after 4 hours and $412 dollars. Fine, car has issues. They were supposed to send me a quote to fix. Tomorrow, another week, tomorrow, another week, wrong email, sorry, sending right now, another two weeks. It's been 4 weeks of me chasing them for a quote to fix my car. I gave up a long time ago but pursuing as a joke to see how long this can drag on. I really hope GMC sends me a survey. read more

This is the first dealership where I get my regular maintenance. So I always thought this quality of service is standard elsewhere. When I went to other dealerships throughout the bay area, I expected the same level of service. Oh boy, was I wrong. Ken Fowler is night and day difference from any other dealership I've tried going to. Appointments are easy, staffs are so friendly and helpful, the service is above and beyond. There were even some services Ken Fowler offered for free while other dealerships don't even do. When I go to other dealership I dont get help and leave so stressed out and unhappy. What I will say is that I have purchased nearly a double-digit amount of cars (Honda & Toyota) from the other local Car dealership in Ukiah. In shopping for a new car, we were blessed to have JoJo (Joanna Reed) at Ken Fowler. Why we've never came to Ken Fowler prior to now is beyond us (our loss), but I will say that JoJo was absolutely a wonderful and knowledgeable sales person. She hooked us up with a 2020 Subaru Outback Limited XT. We aren't easy to please, and we loved her. Between JoJo and the finance staff, Frances this was by far the best car buying experience we've ever had. We were in the middle of purchasing a vehicle from Fowler GMC from out of state. We were told it was OURS and to start the application process and the manager Cris said he would get back to me in a couple mins with how much of a deposit was needed to be put down to hold it for us. So within minutes of receiving the application I submitted it and heard nothing back from Alberto or Cris. 6 hours later we called the dealership and spoke to Cody because we were told Alberto and Cris were both off today but that's funny because they were both there this morning to start the process hmmm... anyways Cody never got back to us like he said he would. No response to text messages or phone calls until 7 hours later only to be told the owner said we don't take deposits and that if the vehicle is still available on Friday they will let us know and then we can fly in and hope that it's still there on Saturday. Now who in their right mind is going to buy a plane ticket, rent a car to drive over 100 miles to this dealership in hopes that the car would be ours but no guarantee. Now why won't the dealership sell to out of state customers during the week but only if we fly in on Saturday? What's the difference if we finalized the paperwork today that would mean we bought the vehicle and would pick it up in 4 days. What they are trying to do is sell it for more in hopes they can get it and if not we are their backup or so they think come Friday. Now mind you we have been in constant contact for 3 days about this and then poof they just disappeared. I would never recommend this dealership to anyone. How could you treat customers like that? Just because we are from out of state doesn't mean we couldn't have been returning customers if we were treated right. Us and extended family have always purchased all of our GM products from a dealership out of state because they have treated us right for years and we were looking for a new GM dealership since our go to person no longer works there. If you want your time and personhood honored in the process of trying to buy a car, do not come here. I recently entered into negotiations on a new car here and had such a bad experience. In a nut shell: I was offered a deal on a car- I made a counter offer and was told they would get back to me right away- 3 days later I hadn't heard from them and finally reached out myself as I was offered a better deal at a different dealership that was much further away. I reached out because i thought I had a good business relationship with the salesperson and because the Ukiah dealership was much closer to where I live. At this point, I said I would take their original offer and they said they would get to me immediately. Again, I did not hear from them. When I called back 24 hours later, the original salesperson told me he made a mistake with the original offer and raised the price significantly. I said no thank you. A day later, the dealership called me to see if I was happy with my experience. I shared what happened- they apologized and told me someone would get back to me right away to honor the original price I was given. 24 hours passed again, and when I was contacted- they yanked me around some more- said they would honor the price but only if I paid cash. Meanwhile, I could have my dream car right now as the dealership further away has been in consistent and respectful touch with me. I will travel tomorrow to that dealership. I understand that salepeople have maneuvers and tactics, but I not ok with being lied to and pulled along without any direct communication. This has been so disheartening and frustrating. read more
