Not from the area but was working in Ukiah for a week. Mixed feelings about my experience. Great customer service but not detailed workmanship. Dropped off my truck for an air conditioning leak. Had been to two other mechanics near my home that either couldn't find a leak or simply replaced a valve and recharged, only for me to find out that by the next day, the refrigerant leaked out. TC replaced a valve and again, by the end of the next day, the refrigerant had leaked out. Brought it back in on the day I was heading home and they looked again and found leaking gaskets which they replaced at no charge. By the time got home to Nevada, all of the refrigerant had leaked out and I was again without cold AC. Staff was super friendly and had no problem standing by their work. I knew I would be back in Ukiah two weeks later and scheduled to bring my truck in on a Saturday (even though they are closed but someone was supposed to be there). Called a couple days before to confirm and was told that nobody would be there since they weren't sure if I was definitely coming. Well, I'm from NJ where a person's word means something. I had solid plans to be there since my wife and I were vacationing in the area. Unfortunately, like previous shops, they didn't take the time to look at every aspect of the system and when I went to a fourth mechanic, he was able to diagnose a leaking compressor along with a ticking noise coming from the bearings and shaft of the compressor. There was dye around the bottom of the compressor which I assume was put in the system by TC. So again, mixed feelings about the experience. Would definitely go back if I needed a friendly shop in Ukiah but would be concerned with the quality of the work. read more

We were traveling from Humboldt County when our alternator belt broke. All shops were closed and contacted car shops around the area of Ukiah through facebook messenger and they are the only one that responded to us. Customer service was amazing. I feel very good supporting this local business. They do their very best to juggle a lot of work, and charge a fair price. They were able to restore one of my low beam headlights and replace a bulb above my license plate for around $50. I would recommend this honest business. They may not be able to handle all requests immediately but I had the distinct impression that they do the best they can. I recommend giving them a shot. read more

I had a positive experience years ago, so it was a no brainer to bring my business use truck to TC Automotive. My dad came in over a week ago, gave a brief overview of the issue and was scheduled an appointment for this morning. Upon arrival, he was told there was no appointment for him and either way they didn't have a technician to work on his diesel. Things happen that are beyond ones control but in all honesty one simple phone call would've gone a long way in this situation. Expected a lot better. read more

Absolutely the worst place to have work on your vehicle. I had dropped my car off yesterday afternoon to have the error code read so I would know whether my car was safe to drive or needed immediate work. Come to find out they started work on my vehicle when I did not give an authorization to begin work on my car. When I call them to complain about this and to stop the work immediately they kept my car until 15 minutes before they close. I later came to find out, after taking my vehicle to a different mechanic, that not only were they over charging me for the parts (they claimed I needed) they diagnosed my car incorrectly and had I fixed what they claimed I needed fixed my car would have been damaged even more. I also found out that the spark plugs they had claimed to replace (and charged me for) had never been replaced. The new mechanic pulled them out and showed me the rust that was on my "new" spark plugs. Will never go back and I do not recommend anyone else. read more

My husband and I bought a car from TC automotive, thinking it was safe because we had done previous business with Charlie at TC. WE WERE TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF. We were told that he rebuilt the engine himself and the car was in excellent condition. We paid $3,600.00 dollars for the car, and signed over my 98 crv to them. In return we got a 2001 Camry that needs a strut package @ 799.00$, timing belt comp kit @ 280.00$, valve cover gasket set @ 60.00$. There are a few more things wrong with it, but I'm running out of room to write. The quote to fix it is 3,166.83$. I've never written a yelp review but had to register in order to recommend TC Automotive. This is the third time I've had Charlie and his crew do major work on my car (new clutch, replace timing belt, now drive belt and turbo maintenance). They are incredibly competent and thorough and go out of their way to help their customers. They even drove my car 50 minutes out of their way to deliver it to me because it took them an extra day to get a part and I was at work and couldn't pick it up. I have been going here for over 4 years to get 3,000-mile maintenance done. I've always scheduled w/ ease, been given a ride home or back if necessary, treated extremely courteously by the up-front person, Charlie, and the rest of his staff, and got my car back on time. They do the work they say they're going to at the price quoted and my 1999 car has never given me a bit of trouble. If they find anything amiss, they call and talk with me about it and ask what I want to do. I've always felt safe going to TC Automotive. Nothing they have done has ever felt the least bit shady, and being a single older woman, I have had a lot of experience with other auto mechanics over many years. These folks are my favorite. Lariza squeezed me in for an emergency repair when I broke down 1.5 hours from home, 2 days before Christmas. Very impressed with the customer service and communication of Lariza at the front desk and the repair job. When ringing me up she pointed out that a part they thought they might need,was not really necessary to replace, and would not have to charge for it. Very honest. Great shop. read more
