Mine was an Interstate Batteries brand, still under warranty, so there are limited auto shops in Ukiah that could cover the replacement (I was told Big O and Dorseys were both great options for Interstate). It is not a problem for me to quickly and efficiently do my own tire and mechanical work. Despite all of this I have entrusted my tire installation and related work to Big O Tires in Ukiah. Honestly, it costs me more to do this but the convenience and reliability has been worth it. They have always been polite, professional and considerate. I discovered a huge hole in my tire, on the side wall of all places, I could see the cords in the tire. I was very nervous for 2 weeks. I only drove to work and back 4 days a week, about 6 miles. I called around to the tire shops in town. 3rd call I made, the friendliest person, i've ever had answer my call at any business, EVER! When I drop my truck off, I heard all of the employees at Big O Tires, Ukiah ca. Answer the phones, like that. Ok fast, friendly, they did their best to put, good, no great set of tires on my ford explorer four wheel drive. Safety is my biggest concern while city driving or boony crashing/// camping is the mountains at the river bar. They got me set up just fine. After a bad experience at the Berkeley Big O Tires we took our truck there when it became clear that it shook VERY badly on the freeway. Ukiah Big O found all 4 tires completely out of balance, and one new tire was unacceptable and should not have been sold. I am 46 years old and I have been taking my vehicle to Vic at Big O since I was just 16 and resided in Fort Bragg. I would drive over the hill to have my vehicle worked on by his crew. My father and mother as well. My husband Ed is the manager at Big O Tires ironically enough, and I know the crew very well down there. I still take my vehicle there-my extended family and friends do too, and people Ed has has come into contact w/along the roadside broke down he has been able to help-even having their car towed to the shop for his guys to work on. Why make appointments with people if you are not going to honor the time? I get being 10 or even 20 minutes behind, but we waited an hour. For a simple tire rotation which they said would be quick and they would be out shortly. Appointment for 3 pm, we sit there an hour and are just ignored and end up leaving. Employee at the front couldn't have cared less. Nobody let us know it would be an hour wait past our appointment time. We spend thousands of dollars a year at big o tires and only to be treated like crap. read more

Ed and the guys at Big O Tires are livesavers. On the way to camping in Mendicino I busted a tire, and the spare. Nightmare. Spent the entire day Saturday going shop to shop trying to find a way to get my car out of the forest, with no luck. Even forgot the wheel behind at the campsite so would need a tire and the wheel. Arrived to the shop a couple hours before closing hoping for a miracle and got even more than expected. Was out of the shop within 20 minutes with a wheel and tire that would get me out the woods and to the closest shop the next day. Ed showed a level of compassion I hadn't experienced in a while. Besides being resourceful and getting the job done its obvious these guys care about what they do and genuinely helping people. True story! Yesterday I came out of my doctor's office and saw one of my tires was going flat. My doctor (a cardiologist}. had just told me I needed open heart surgery. Bad day, to say the least. I drove over to Big O with a half flat tire. They don't know me from Adam. I'm not from Ukiah. A guy at the desk, Ed, makes up a tag and puts a guy on it. It takes a half an hour to get the tire off and fix it. The worker checks all the other tires and takes another one off to check it because the pressure is suspiciously low. I asked the worker if he was a partner in the business because his service was above and beyond. He said no but that he had worked there for over 20 years. I go back to Ed with the tag and pull out my credit card. Ed tells me to put it away, we're good, he says. He didn't know my sob story about my doctor visit. His gesture was simply an act of kindness. I then told him about my diagnosis and he simply said, glad we could help you. I'm an old guy, 76 years old. This business is truly "old school". All I can say is the next time I need tires I will drive to Ukiah! read more

Was EXTREMELY impressed with Big O. I wanted to get new tires put on my car, after I bought new wheels, and wanted to go to a good shop in the area that would be very careful with the expensive wheels, and pretty expensive tires. I was pretty apprehensive of going to a chain like them but was very impressed over the phone and with the work. Josh at the front desk was very nice, and extremely helpful in getting the tires. I ordered a fairly uncommon size that are hard to find, and they had them shipped in two days, and got them installed. The wheels still looked brand new after the work, and everything looked great. Even the workers complimented my car which wasn't necessary but very appreciated lol. I will definitely be back with my truck to get new wheels and tires. I Usually buy Michelin tires at Costco, the tires I need Costco were temporarily out of stock, I called Big-O Tires and talked to Victor about a set of Michelin tires. When I got home, I had a message from Victor with a quote that actually was lower than Costco's price for the same exact tire with a $50 rebate, he said that the tires were at the warehouse and would be at his store within a week, he called me the day before the tires arrived to let me know he had tracked the shipment and the installation was as planed. I had the tires installed today, on my way over I noticed the brakes squeaking, they check them and replaced the pads, Victor was off but the mechanic doing the work worked through his lunch hour to complete the job, also while being there for many hours I was offer to be taken any where and pick up whit-in the city of Ukiah, this type of customer service is rare. Owning three vehicles in an area with varied topography means you're buying tires every couple of years. I've used three other tire shops in Ukiah before going to Big O. Every other tire purchasing experience I've had in Mendocino county has been more expensive, time consuming, less friendly and ultimately for an inferior product. Avoid this place at all costs. Brought my van into this establishment a couple years back for an oil/filter change & tire rotation. Simple enough, right? Well after years of doing business with auto shops I've learned it isn't wise to trust anyone right off the bat. Because of that I make a habit of using a sharpie to mark my tire rims and oil filter prior to such maintenance work. You know why? So that I can see if they actually change the filter and rotate the tires. Wanna know the results for Big O Tires of Ukiah, CA when I arrived for pick-up and payment? The pre-marked filter and rim didn't move one inch (after having my car in their care for 3 hours). Meaning: they didn't rotate the tires OR change the oil and filter. Scam central my friends. When I pointed this out and showed them the sharpie marks they straight up denied everything. When I suggested we take a look at the security cam video their tune changed pretty quick. Ultimately they pulled my van back into the garage and performed all the service work that I originally paid for...all while I was closely watching from the sidelines. I used to go to Big O in Ukiah for all my repair needs, but service has been on a downward trend since before the pandemic. I'm really not happy with my last 2 visits to Big O Ukiah :(... both visits ended with repairs being done elsewhere. 1. About a year ago I brought my car in for an oil leak. I was told it was the cam shaft seal was leaking and paid a few hundred $$. Afterwards the oil leak was just the same. I took my car to another mechanic who said it was the head gasket, he showed me exactly where the leak was. I called Big O back and they were willing to give a $300 credit towards the head gasket repair (which was a nice gesture), but I decided to take the car back to the other mechanic, he replaced the head gasket for about $200 less than it would have cost at Big O, even with the $300 credit. The whole experience from the start was lame. When I arrived to have the oil leak diagnosed, I had to stand there for about 3 minutes listening to the guys up front talk smack about their ex-girlfriends or wives (without masks on in the middle of the pandemic) instead of greeting me and taking care of the customer. Three minutes is not a very long time to wait, but when the guys are just talking sh*t about their exes, I think customer service should come first. 2. About a month ago I decided to give Big O one more chance. My car was pulling a little to the right and I wanted an alignment to preserve my tires. Service was quick and smooth and the guys up front were focused on customer service. I was happy for a moment, that is until I got back into my car and started driving only to feel it pulling even harder to the right than before I got the alignment. Come on guys!! You're a tire shop! If you can't get an alignment straight, then what can you get straight? Nothing? I drove about 100 miles around Ukiah/Calpella over the next few weeks and decided to take my car to another tire shop, I was sick of having to hold my steering wheel to the left just to go straight. The other tire shop quickly diagnosed the problem, the front right control arm was bent and the right rear wheel bearing was shot, causing play in the rear right wheel. Why didn't Big O notice the problems while doing the alignment? I paid the premium to have the work done at a tire shop that actually looks at the car instead of blindly doing some work just to close out the ticket to move onto the next. My car drives and handles better than it has in years! I'm done with Big O. If you want reliable service, go somewhere else, unless you like to spend money for nothing while wasting your precious time. read more
